  • I discuss how much adjustment you have on a Fivics riser. I discuss how much 1 turn on a limb bolt adjusts the poundage. I duscuss tunning my Pandarus CA320 500 spine shafts and what poundage I needed to get a perfect tune.
I discuss to much and to little limb bolt adjustment. How to adjust your limb bolts and common mistakes made when adjusting Hoyt and Win and Win recurve risers.

Same problems in my club. I don't know where the problem is. Each time i buy a new riser i fully unwind the limb bolts. Then count the threads. Rule of thumb at least 2/3 of the total thread count should be into the riser. Once the bolt is completely in, make a Sharpie mark at 12 o'clock. Makes it easy to keep track of limb bolt turns. Easy as that. You also get to know how it works and it prevents bad surprises. I once had a missing counter screw on a new Hoyt riser.

Changing the settings on your limb bolts while the bow is already strung it is no different than taking the drain plug for the oil out of your car & starting the engine & driving aaay. Get the right spine for your arrow. Then the plunger spring settings. Last, the tip weight. If u arent shooting over 30 meters than tip weight works. But putting more tip weight up front affects trajectory. So going from 120 grains to 140 is not going to do much.
As an example i have perfect arrow flight with 52 lbs. with a 495 grain arrow. But the arrow is a 400 spine. That means to get that flight I had to put 270 grains up front. However out to 30 meters it's very, very accurate with no misses to the left or right. Just figuring out different distances for proper trajectory is needed. But this January when I tinker every year I'm going to buy seven blank shafts of the same arrow. But I'm getting them in a 500 spine. I buy seven but i don't fletch them. I simply shoot them all until they are tuned. Then I fletch six of them & save one for a bare shaft. You can order 7, but if u r in a shop & everything is fletched then get the 6. I always keep one bare & u will learn more about your arrow flight & form from that one bare shaft shooting different distances than shooting fletched ones @ 2 meters through paper. A bare shaft showed me that my form was a little different when shooting from an elevated position than it was when shooting on flat ground. 😮🎉😅.

Have you any Akusta risers? If so, Are they a quality riser?

I bought an Akusta wood 19" riser first last January. But it wasn't as compatible to other brands limbs. I put some brand new wood/glass limbs on it. To put the limbs on was tough. To take off was even tougher. I bought a CNC Machined riser & those limbs & others were fine on that riser. One of the limb bolts was a little messed up so after getting that limb off which was tougher than the other I replaced the limb bolt. I would say that if u have an Akusta riser that u r stuck getting Akusta limbs that fit into the pockets better, that sucks.

I just shoot when I started there was no adjustment

Yes, your form needs to be consistent in order to tune the bow. How consistent? An experienced archer told me, nine inch groups at 30 meters. Seems generous to me, but I’m assuming this is the minimum standard.

As one of the older archers i shoot with likes to say "spend more time shooting your bow and less time watching bkw vids on youtube"

Limb bolts are designed to be adjusted and the bows have been engineered with adjustment. To say not to use it defeats the purpose of having it.
There are a few problems i see:
    1. Manufacturers arent as clear as they really should be on the safe range of adjustment. Imagine if the tiller bolts had red anodizing when you have turned it out too far to warn you.
    2. People in general overestimate their ability and knowledge and as a result make adjustments to their bows which makes their setup worse. Sometimes so much that it is dangerous. Some of these people are just idiots, some arent but either way clear documentation would help.

You' re fighting human nature to tinker and worse yet, the bow is meant to be tinkered with. best you can do is a disclaimer and give good advice so they have a ballpark.

Stephen - your perspective on adjustment of limb bolts is complete nonsense. It only serves you as a dealer.

Without an explanation to accompany your statement, I can't tell if youre being sarcastic or not

Not being sarcastic unfortunately. Not making adjustments to the limb bolts on a recurve riser is just nonsense. There are many advantages to be had by making limb bolt adjustments and Stephen knows this.

The vid is titled 'adjusting tiller' and you don't talk about tiller :). I cannot agree with what you say about adjusting a bow, it doesn't make sense. Limb alignment is adjusted in a comparable manner so are you saying you shouldn't adjust a bow that has the frontal profile of a banana ? Just shoot and things will be OK ? Nonsense. The true problem is that a lot of people will damage their riser because they have zero understanding of mechanical principles. So instead of saying "don't touch' the correct statement should be "seek expert assistance'.
