Hi team! 💜 While in this video we talked about the ~benefits~ of bullet journaling, there are also some things about the system that I don't like 😝 For the 7 things I "hate" about bullet journaling, you can check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/Eiby4Qz8LmM/v-deo.html (prepare for salty-Jess 🧂😂)
I also use it as a creative outlet. I can spend time adding decoration when I have time and plan out colour schemes. I can keep it simple when I don’t have time, but at other times I can be more elaborate
I initially wanted to start bullet journaling as an outlet for my depression. But the fear of writing in the journal had me stuck. I then wanted to start one for weight loss and mental health. I actually did all of the mood trackers and stuff and never followed through. Now I am at the point where I just jumped in and started with no plans for the journal itself. It's all over the place but it's helped me start.
I did the same last year. The only consistent thing I did was using one pen color each month (because I needed some kind of color) and whatever I wanted to add. As Jess says: one of the good things about bullet journaling is that you do whatever you want with it 💪
I mostly use my bujo to know what's coming in the future (birthdays, appointments, deadlines...), to know when was the last time I've [insert thing] (e.g. period, health-related habits), and as an excuse to draw.
I had a bulletjournal years ago and missed the creativity of it after doing Happy planner for 3 years. I couldn't fill it like i felt i needed, it always looked empty at the end of the week, eventhough my weeks were packed and it was always the same it seems. Now i am using the bulletjournal for a month and i feel creativity -wise better and more happy
Thank you so much for this! It's helping me figure out/verbalize what my purpose really is. It's sort of everything you mentioned, but I guess that's why I'm using a bullet journal. I think I need to lean into the "snapshot of you at any given time" aspects to get more of my thoughts onto paper, so it's good to know what I could be doing, as well as the reasons I'm already using the bujo. Here's hoping I don't go overboard with new ideas...
Glad the video was helpful for you 💜 I love the "snapshot" aspect of it; I really value getting to flip back through my journals and see little notes about things that were happening. Honestly, I need to put more of that in my journal 😝
Having the creative outlet, keeping a gratitude log, and being able to check things off so that I can see that I'm actually doing things with my life is helpful for my mental health. Being able to compare my mood, energy, seizures and mental health help me understand triggers for seizures and anxiety attacks also. Even if you don't keep a bujo, I highly recommend to everyone keeping a gratitude log/journal.
I started Bullet Journaling 5 years ago in order to keep a productive schedule in retirement and to document how I actually spent my time. Since then, I have added creating an art piece for each month and included poetry that is meaningful to me. The habit trackers I use are very helpful, especially when I visit the cardiologist and internist annually.
I do it as a way of combining organisation with creativity. The dotted pages are a blank canvas on which to put the results of my often overactive imagination, lol! Also, as you said, it’s about doing things your own way, not bothering with stuff you don’t do and just sticking to the things you need. For instance, I track my reading, but I still do it in a different way to other readers, and there are a lot of other habits I don’t bother with, so pre-printed journals would just be a waste of time and paper for me.
Glad that someone understands the feeling of pre-printed planners feeling like a waste of paper 😝 (like, in terms of the things ~we~ want to record that it, not necessarily in general 😅)
@@JashiiCorrin Even with something I do track, my reading, I reckon I’m still an unusal kind of bookworm, and I’m not really one for reviews and ratings, I just wanna get on with more books! Those who know my blog, Joanne’s Bookshelf, now on Jetpack (was Word Press), will know I have several books on the go at any time, usually up to seven, and they’re known as my Ongoing Concerns! My journal is created to reflect the tracking of my varied progress for various items of reading matter at any time!
I needed something to make me happy. My Mental Health I wanted to track what my triggers are. I love to do doodle and also to bring out my inner child. Sense Finding bullet Journaling in June. I am happy with my progress.
The biggest benefit for me is doing the weekly reset with my husband. We get a chance to sit down together and reflect on the week that passed, and plan ahead together. It really helps our communication and I wouldn’t trade it for anything 🙂
The reason I decided to experiment with an analog BuJu is tasks/events/drawings/ideas were getting lost. I have dyslexia (& maybe ADD) and typing things on an electronic calendar or to-do list doesn’t work unless I remember to check it (which I don’t usually). Then a while ago the calendar that came with my phone started eating entries… so I started using the calendar that came with email/doc/photo/spreadsheet freebie suite as backup… but what works for 40+ years I’ve kept a little pad of paper & pen in my pocket to jot things down. Since I’ve been retired for several years I don’t need to keep a very detailed calendar for work anymore… but I wasn’t getting done the things I wanted done. Also, for several months I’ve been working on my writing through journaling (mix of Morning Pages, a summary diary, & short essays on interesting people I meet). So I split journaling into a typical A5 journal notebook and other BuJo elements into a Field Notes size pocket booklet I keep in my pocket. Fooled around with June starting after the month began to I thought I knew what to include in transition into July, but only a few pages in I felt I had made mistakes and wanted to throw it out & start again… but wouldn’t let myself because I knew by using it I would want to make other changes as I went along. Told myself I could make all the changes, experimenting I wanted to in July if I kept it up I would permit myself to start a new pocket notebook in August… and I did. The transition went smoother than the month before, elements like an index, Future Log (3 months), Monthly Overview, Habit Tracker, Rolling/unassigned task list, & weekly/dailies found their natural order. Then end of last month and these first few days of August have had more tasks completed or tracked with reduced anxiety. The A5 journal has over 150 pages written in my tiny one grid high handwriting. Thanks for your videos, I’ve enjoyed watching them as I’ve sorted out how to use the A5 journal & Field Notes BuJu together. 🙃
"No app works exactly the way your brain does" is what I've been struggling to communicate to my family since I got into the planner community in 2016. I'm also so much less likely to remember to update a digital system because I have a million things open on my computer at all times, and I can't see every tab all the time. I also really like the aesthetic of it, and that it provides a creative outlet, since my job isn't creative. And for some reason, digital clutter bothers me so much more than physical clutter.
Organization and creating an overview for me where probably the main reason as well as the flexibility. I have also found that I just work better with outlines. I have since moved to a digital system because paper didn't provide the overview that I desperately need 😞 also BuJo on the go wasn't working for me and that is something I also really need. Having to carry my notebook everywhere was such a chore. Especially in the knowledge I had a phone right there. Two notebooks or phone + notebook also never really worked out. So now I still use the BuJo concepts, but digitally.
I'm all about people finding systems that work for them 👏 There are some parts of my planning that I have to keep digitally (e.g. my content planning and scheduling is done primarily digitally) but I also don't ~go~ very many places with my journal, so carrying my notebooks around isn't too much of an issue for me 😊💜 Glad to hear your system works for you though! 😄
I like to bullet journal for different reasons. I have no kids, job or mych of a social life, so calenders and planning not so much. I do however love it as a daily dairy, habit tracker, mood tracker and write down series watched, books read, weight etc. Also I always liked drawing and wanted to do it more without having to sacrifice other things. The bullet journal is perfect for that as I draw cover pages and weekly spreads. So much more fun to fill in the pages too if it looks nice
Always glad to hear about how people are making it work for them, so it's cool that you've got your own reasons for this outside of the calendars and scheduling that a lot of people use it for 💜 Always a plus when things are fun too!
What do you think about the erasable notebooks? I have one thar is called SORA, you could ask them to send one for a reviewe, with spare dot grid or lined or grid pages. I liked this one in particular because it's on discs, so I could rearrange the pages as I want
1:10 notion is like that: I could sett up as I want 1:20 you hate wasting paper? Some people might tell you that you're doing exactly this (as I was told too) 1:28 i found out what i need: a notebook with eresable pages.
I do have a Notion set up, but then I ran into the issue of tasks being deleted (or just disappearing in general) after I completed them. For me, I need to have the log of tasks visible so I can kind of see that I'm making progress, if that makes sense 😝 But I love my Notion for things like my content scheduling and planning because that has a lot of moving parts and information to be written down (much faster to do on a computer for me!)
@@JashiiCorrin oh, I'm the same way, I want to see what I've done, it's very simple, just set the filter up so the checked tasks are not deleted. I also have a separate filter that shows ONLY the done tasks, I called it "the accomplished log" 😅

Heck yeah 💪 I like to do the same; great creative when I can, strip it back when I need to 💜
Yeah, I like the look of both the colorful setups and just a simple neutral pen-only set up.

I actually did all of the mood trackers and stuff and never followed through. Now I am at the point where I just jumped in and started with no plans for the journal itself. Heck yeah for getting started 👏 That can be one of the most challenging parts, so I'm glad you found a way into it 💜
Thank you

Yes. I also use it for motivation. It's all in priority order, and pulls me forward.
Oh nice 👏 that’s a great benefit 😄💜

That's awesome 💜 And mental health is a great reason to bullet journal 💪

100% behind that 👏 We have weekly household meetings that are the same kinda thing 💜
Love your videos thanks again just finished “The Bullet Journal Method” ebook last night ❤
