      How do we connect it to wifi if router has password? Does app take care of it?

    • @larry5191
      @larry5191 2 роки тому +2

      @@TmpVideo Short answer is yes, the app takes care of it. He showed the password being entered in the video. Long answer is there are two passwords when dealing with routers normally, the password for logging into the router itself (to set up and configure the actual router), and the SSID password for connecting devices to the router (Smart devices like this Kasa light switch, your smart phone, laptop computer, desktop computer, wireless printer, etc.). The first password I referred to isn't relevant whatsoever when connecting devices, so if that's the password you were referring to in your question, the app doesn't take care of it because it doesn't come into play. That password is only used when logging into your router to configure it which is another story altogether (not relevant when connecting devices). The second password I referred to, the SSID password, *_is_* relevant, and that's the password you enter when connecting any device to your router. That's the password he referred to in the video. Note that the SSID is just the technical name for your WiFi network name (you can Google it), so it's whatever name that was assigned to your network, such as "BobsHomeNetwork" (or whatever you called it). These are the names you see when you select a network from the list of SSID names that appear in the network selection screen of your phone or computer. You're logging your device into that particular SSID network (whichever one you choose from the list) so it's that password you need to enter. The device in this case is the Kasa smart switch which needs the SSID password to join your network.

    Spent a total of 2.5 hours today (18-22 separate attempts) failing to connect a variety of switches (new home; 20 switches to program). Watched your video, watched it again, paused, followed actions and programmed my first switch in 6 minutes! Thank you, thank you, thank you. (FYI. Major error was not connecting the switch itself to the wifi.) Definitely saving this video as I'll probably forget with the next one.

    The hardest part of this install was shoving the wires into the very back of the indwelling box. The bulky back of the Kasa switch is not trivial. Also, don't be lazy (like I was) and test the switch BEFORE shoving all the wires into the box. Finally, as some have pointed out, the faceplate provided can be removed if you have a series of switches next to each other.

    Great video. Thanks for showing that I need to connect ALL two neutral wires. The app does not say it so I only connected one, and the switch was not powered up. Then I spent half an hour figuring out how to pull off the plate safely because it was dang tight and every attempt seemed to crack it. The second switch was much easier, and I decided not to use its dang tight plate. Lesson learned.

    A question and a few comments... 1.) it's neutral like everyone else is saying... 2.) you should have used a pair of pliers to twist the end of the wires together before installing the wire nut, this helps ensure a good connection and helps prevent one of the wires from slipping out.
    Now the question: what happens after a power outage?? I.E. if the switch was in the off position, and there's a power outage, when the power is restored does the light come on or stay off??

I'm kinda surprised that the newer screws were not included as well as the paper screw retainers but the paper retainers are Not necessary. The cover plate screws are about a ¼ of an inch and the switch retainer screws are about an inch. Hope this helps. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.

    Great video Tutorial Thank You so much!! It's Super Appreciated!! Out of the three Smart switch / smart plug brands I have TPlinks Kasa is in my case The EASIEST to Setup. I actually kept my older wireless router up and running to avoid resetting one of the other brands I was gifted at Christmas ⛄🎄 seriously if I were to do a setup and review of the NON TPLinks Kasa Smart switch I'd suggest a viewer return Thier Non TPlinks Kasa smart switch or plug and ONLY purchase a TPlinks Kasa Brand. Seriously Great products!! I'd do a video showing HOW EASY IT IS AND IM A NON PAID Spokesperson for TPLINKS KASA SMART PLUG / SWITCH. This brand makes it that EASY even if your afraid to play with the electrical wires in your home. Thanks Again Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.

      Yes extremely easy. I usually Add 15-30 minutes as it's usually not that dark at sunset in my neck of the woods. And depending on your location I subtract 15+/- Minutes dependent on your sunrise. If your using LED lighting and not worried about a penny or two on your power bill just use either Sunset or Sunrise without adding or subtracting time. I find it useful that Kasa gives us the options in Thier app. If you have any TPLINKS KASA questions? Just ask and I'll do my best to answer including any internet questions I to am not familiar with. Eddie J. Long Island N.Y.

    Are the 2 black wires the same? I read somewhere that the 2 black wires are different, one is called Load and the other is Line. How do I know which to connect? I noticed you just connected them without choosing.

    • @Tech4Baba
      @Tech4Baba  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching, favoritemyvideo! You are right that one of the black wire is line (connects the light switch to home’s circuit breaker panel) and the other black wire is load (connects the light switch to the light fixture). You can connect either one with either of the HS200's black wires. Stay safe!

    • @oscara.2331
      @oscara.2331 Рік тому

      A light switch should always have a line and a load since one is hot and supplying power to the switch and one carries that power to the light once a switch is flipped to on. Outlets are the ones that sometimes only have a line wire and then just hook that up and cap off the unused load wire.
