- We have entered a New Cold War. The US is attacking on China on many fronts, from trade and tech to Covid-19. It cannot accept China’s rise. Like all hegemons, it cannot imagine a world in which it is no longer dominant. But in reality the US is in rapid relative decline. Its dominance has become an anachronism. The fact is that an international system led by China and the developing world will be much superior to one characterised by Western dominance, with the US and Europe accounting for less than 15% of the world’s population. The talk was delivered at Vision China on September 17 2020.

I am a Chinese and work in Serbia now. My purpose of watching this video is to learn English, but after I watched it carefully, I think your analysis of China is very objective. We feel that most Westerners are very biased towards China, and it is rare to encounter such an objective evaluation of the Chinese government and Chinese people. So I want to say thank you. 1. We have always been tolerant and grateful in Chinese education, and we are very willing to accept Western culture 2. At the same time, there is no element of revenge or aggression in our education in China. Because we ourselves lost too much in the war 100 years ago, we don't want to see the war. Seeing the wars caused by the United States in so many regions of the world, China is very sympathetic and willing to help. 3. China's development does not rely on plagiarism and copying. Westerners do not understand China's development because they don't know that there are two stories in Chinese culture called "Wait for the courage and keep a low profile". 4. I especially want to tell the world that 99% of the Chinese people are very satisfied with our government. We still cannot understand why the current Western society always feels that the Chinese government is evil. Take a look at everyone's criticism at the beginning of the new crown epidemic. The Chinese Communist Party and the government will definitely make mistakes, but they have a strong sense of correction, self-criticism and improvement are also fast. Just like our current Chairman Xi Jinping, he will definitely be a great leader in China's 50000 history. 5. I think the most important one is that the Chinese people seek truth from facts, but through this epidemic, I feel that the biggest thing is the arrogance of Westerners. If China's international influence is gradually increasing, on the one hand, we are tolerant and open, and learn from all places worthy of our study. Just like Huawei, which is suppressed by the US president, we still learn from the United States. Coupled with our hard work, each of our families, including every generation of the government, is making efforts and even sacrifices for a better life for the next generation. On the other hand, the arrogance and complacency of Westerners will naturally slow down your progress.
Anyway, thank you for evaluating China objectively. You are welcome to China. Any foreigner who does not commit a crime in China will be safe and comfortable.

My first visit to Shanghai, China was back in 1993, just 26 years ago. Since then, I’ve made many trips to China, and yet I could hardly keep pace with tremendous development and changes. I had also traveled to San Francisco and Los Angeles over the same period.
Truth be told, comparing these two major cities in the United States and that of China's first-tiered cities (or even second-tier cities) it gives me the feeling that their development has stagnated in time capsule. In fact, what has struck me is the visible increase of homeless peoples and beggars on the street.
Mr. Jacques is one of the most insightful lecturers on the contrast between Western and Eastern Civilizations.

The lecture is propaganda. If you want to know the truth follow the money.... who is crying the most?.... transnationalist corporations that is who.... why? because these corporations had a short term vision for profit over the long term tragedy of total global meltdown. China would have never lead an "asian century" because it's population is far too large for its natural land mass and would have started wars in order to keep its internal expansion growing and keep it's people fed.... The signs were evident 20 years ago.... China was growing at 7-9% gdp every year.... it would not take a genius to discover that that equates to a doubling of its economy every 10 years.... most economies run at a target of 3% to prevent the economy from over heating. China was a run-a-way train and was going to hit a wall.... that wall would have mass starvation and wars.... meanwhile the west could not keep printing money to keep buying goods from China.... eventually the money would be hyper inflated and then the economies would all collapse.....

I understand what Jacques is saying but the word "leader" has some connotations which China has never intended. A leader is seen in some circles as someone who dominates and has the final word on decision making. In order to look after its vast population, China has had to do things often on a vast scale resulting in China having the most of this or that. In order to lift its people out if poverty, it had to greatly improve its technology and science and manufacturing. So China has produced more to pay its way and in doing, put itself on top in many league tables. But as "leader" it doesn't mean China wants to "dominate or rule the world". Far from it. It just wants equality, to be treated as an equal, just as any sovereign state should be, and not be dominated or bullied by America. It has its own unique political system and culture and does not think that the west should impose western systems on it. Why can't China keep its own system and the west keep theirs? It's a question which puzzles most Chinese, but not westerners who are so used to telling others what to do. As "chart topper", China is not one to tell others in other countries how to lead their lives. It just wants the west to reciprocate this. Leave us alone and stop meddling in China's affairs.
I would disagree that China seeks equality and to get a long. I would compare them more to an aggressive business strategy that seeks to succeed no matter what the cost. That said I don't agree with those that demonize them and see them making very slow progress but lately that progress has been far less than their will to become dominant.
To say "just leave us alone" is very naive statement considering the context of all the complexities of world trade and cooperation.

China went through a period of industrialisation when it had to use relatively crude and dirty technology to get to where economists call is the "take-off" point. One can compare this with the dirty phases of Industrial Revolution in the west when the largest polluters were Britain and then the US. Unfortunately, it was necessary as it had to use what it had. But over two decades ago, they had begun to adopt more cleaner technology. They are not going for growth at any cost. As for being left alone, we are talking about politics, not trade. Naturally, trade involved communications and marketing, etc. China, indeed wants to engage with other trading nations if they want to trade with it. But in trading, China does not force Walmart or any western company to buy its products, with the threat, or else. It does not use World Bank and IMF loans to enforce economic and political reforms. No country us forced to build a railway track using Chinese technology. It does not use gunboats to force other nations to buy or accept vaccines or drugs which it has made or grown. So, in my opinion, you attempt to temper your comment has failed. You ARE another China basher.

Also I am not defending the worlds countries here and you are right about the industrialization and and China's green incentives I am very impressed with where they are going with that, although they have a long way to go in terms of Coal power and dirty mining (but who doesn't).
In regards to trade China is in a trade war with Canada right now over the legal handling of Mrs Meng, but China is denying that directly is the case. Canada has tried very hard to be tolerant but we have reached the end of our patience. China continues to mask it's intentions and dredge up counter measures in a very immature manner. China is actively mass scraping data on Canadians and others including minors! (for example the Zhenhua company) This is not acceptable nor peaceful. It's no secret China is waging a war of influence using this kind of methods of studying then sending agents to try and influence people in important positions.
Also it's no secret that China uses its government to back companies (illegal subsidize) to try and take over those markets in order to out-compete legal companies so it can dominate in future markets like technology. So maybe countries need to handle that on their own but still it presents to them the option of let it happen "or else suffer consequences", where it will find 'other' indirect ways to punish intolerance of it's ways.
I might criticize China but I also do any country I see as going too far.

Trump’s Make America Great Again is by itself admitting America is indeed no longer great.
I'd even go as far as to say it hasn't been "great" for many decades. Insanely good propaganda admitted but since the 1960's the decline was subtly visible. And around 1970 it slowly dawned on keen observers that China's rise to the top was just a matter of time.
I have to admit, I'm actually looking forward to the Chinese lead. I can't imagine they will try to topple as many countries, including a bunch of democratic states, as the US did over the last 50 years. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that the US entered WW2 but since then they've been the instigators of soo many wars it's crazy, to be honest.

This professor is very rational and looks at the problem comprehensively. He really admires his knowledge. He has a better understanding of China than most Western politicians. The future of global governance will soon be fair, reasonable and more inclusive governance rules that a few people take from the majority of the population. Hegemonism is unpopular and will surely be updated. Only China in the world has a history of more than 3,000 years, and it has never stopped. There is an old saying in China that those who win the hearts of the people win the world, and if you divide for a long time, you must be united.
China keep saying that they are not interested in becoming a world leader nor a superpower. But they are silently demonstrating to the world (by actions) how a world leader should behave thereby winning the hearts and minds of people around the world. Who says that he doesn't know that and 'Primary ' is used here to mean 'main' buying power. If you read his article ' China Rise Continues', you will see he used "Purchasing Power Parity' for PPP in paragraph three, not to mention his 2009 book, 'When China Rules the World' where he used PPP for purchasing power parity. So he does know that PPP stands for.
