      I'm gonna get one, put guitar strings on it, and play it as if its a guitar. chording will be a little easier though since just 4 strings to worry about

    This is the sweetest bass on the planet.
    When I ordered mine I mistakenly ordered two, but it's just so fucking cool that I'm keeping them both. They are just beautiful instruments. Sound is amazing. And the
    price, even shipped to Maine, is ridiculous.
    Buy one. OR two. Your call.

    it also sounds good unplugged. I think a good idea for a mod would be to add a piezo pickup. I swapped the terrible pickups for guitar humbuckers and... it's a huge difference. I use it as a training bass usually unplugged

    The truth about this bass that I owned and sold :
    GOOD THINGS
    Sounds good
    Nice neck (a bit fat but works fine)
    Looks great but bigger than the orignal because it's not a shortscale bass
    Neck compensation on the end of the junction between neck and body (which is better than the Hofner and similar to the Epiphone)
    BAD THINGS
    Terrible tuners that you might want to change
    Terrible setting from Thomann, specially on the bridge
    Terrible frets that are sharps on the endings and needs a polish before you can actually play the bass
    Terrible pickup configuration that sounds out of phase everytime you put the 2 pickups together (so you have to mix one louder than the other one)
    Terrible strings, you have to change them with more serious ones

    Ist halt die übliche Fernost-Variante des Beatles-Basses, die es auch unter vielen anderen Markennamen gibt. Einen Guten hat man erwischt, wenn die Zargen nicht aus Pressholz bestehen, sondern laminiert (hier = dem Korpusverlauf nach gebogen) sind.

    Great stuff. Love your reviews of affordable gear. Any chance you could review the Harley Benton 210 and 115 bass cabs? They are very popular on Thomann but there is very little out there on the Internet about them.

    The Harley Benton or the Hofner ignition? Both are cheap but which one would you choose?

      This bass actually used to be cheap back at the time. So i think there isn't big difference between that options, maybe only build quality is better in Hofner models

      HF1600ie i havent played the harley benton but in my opinion when i played the Hofner ignition it felt cheap. It didn’t feel good to me but that’s honestly just my opinion.

      I'm having the same doubt. In the video he says that the Hofner Ignition is x3 more expensive and is not much better than the Harley Benton, but I've also read that it's a better made bass...

    Can anyone please let me know what the string spacing at the bridge is? Is it similar to that of a typical 4-string bass, around 19mm ?

      I have this same model and it came originally with a roundwound strings, sounds pretty cool, but I want to change to a flat soon.

    it plays nice...but the hofner ignition costs 269 which is not 3 times...and it plays nice as well :)

      I demoed their entire product palette a while ago and thought the ignitions were awful to play but that's just my opinion

      I had the Ignition bass, it wasn't very good to be honest. I liked my Rogue VB 100 more than the Hofner lol

      I think the hofner contemporary would hypothetically have the least amount of neckdive since it has a block of wood in it. These types of basses will always have neck dive at varying extents so there's no escaping that.

      I haven’t had a chance to try the API yet. But I imagine the API is hard to beat giving their experience making some of the best preamps ever designed

    That is a beautiful bass. But I have one complaint. What is with that ugly piece of tin holding the volume / control knobs. It does not match the curvy shapes of the guitar. It looks like an after thought and makes the guitar look cheap. What is it there for anyway. All my guitar's knobs sit alone. Pass it on to Harley Benton.

    I play the game Rocksmith Remastered alot Good way to learn songs on guitar. But I have never played a Bass in my life.. Any Chance U have tried this with that game?? #HARLEYBENTON Should do videos using the game because I know they have over half a million regular players More bass players than Guitar. Then a big bunch like me I just want to learn bass to help me understand Music and play the game when I get in a guitar ruit. I have seen them use a Epiphone Hofner before on the game but don't know what the pickup specks were have no knowledge of basses at all really and could use some advice on what to buy pretty much just to play that game?? Help Please! #RocksmithRemastered

      All basses without any upper horn are neck heavy as hell. I didn’t feel the need to mention this, because i thought it’s obvious

      @@jazzman1954 played neck heavy basses all my life till now, even as a beginner I had neck heavy basses....so what, its the sound to me thats important ....the rest I can take care of with technique or physical compensation.....for example laying your right arm on the body while playing to use the weight of your arm to deal with neck heavy instruments ....always works good... for me at least....:)

      @@reneflachsenhaar2968 Glad it works for you and it won’t affect the tone. It will however affect the left hand position. A bad left hand position limits the possibilities for technique. Personally it would make me not even consider owning a bass that does that. I just can’t play them because I’ve got used to not supporting the bass with the left hand or counter balance with the right which is also bad for getting comfortable. However some guys can produce good music even with rubbish technique. So, horses for courses.
