Glad to see an actual bass player demoing a bass, and not a guitar player who does not really play bass demoing a bass. This makes your video TREMENDOUSLY useful and valuable. Wish there was more of that on UA-cam. Thanks.

Harley Benton makes fantastic beginner basses and guitars. If you are on a budget or a beginner I would recommend them. The price is crazy low, but expect to add about 50 to 60 US for shipping to the US. It is still worth it IMHO, and if you get a couple of basses or guitars you can save on the shipping that way.

I have played many different mid range basses over the years (the big boys are a little hefty priced for me at the mo) - but I recently bought a Harley Benton bass and it just blew me away - its not just the quality of the instrument that is fantastic within the budget - its also the fact that they come set up really well too - without much tinkering you can pretty much play it straight out of the box - this review has encouraged me to consider a few others to add to the collection. Brilliant stuff!

Just got the MP4-MN natural 3 weeks ago. I am a guitar player and sound engineer. Decided to get into bass for fun, not busting the bank. Put the instrument to tests, and I have to say, it’s impressive overall, the P bass pickup is excellent, the MM style humbucker sound a bit thin. The active circuit is okish, when boosted it distorts easily, mostly use it to cut highs :)
Materials used are very high quality and must say, beautiful!
It’s a 300 euro bass that feels like a 1000 euro one. Good job Thomann, hats off!!!

The one you have described is the exact one I am seriously looking at. I saw a review of it here on UA-cam on another Channel and it seems excellent and even with a lot of potential if someone wanted to swap the pickups out. I'm just seeing great reviews of these basses and I am very interested in this particular one you are talking about! Thanks for your comments on what you've experienced so far with it!

Love your vids. I have been playing the same Epiphone Les Paul Special bass for many years.
Got it from a pawn shop, so some poor guy needed to eat etc.
Think of him every time I play.
Some people say, "Try this bass, that bass".
Why? My bass does everything I want it to. We are old friends.

Finally bought the MJ-4 and it´s a fantastic intrument! The finish is excellent; the hardware - especially the bridge is from another planet; and the bass is not that big! It´s a way lighter than the HB Fretless JB (which has the weight of a tank) perfect!

MJ4-MN Natural was my choise. I watched and listened this video many times before decidid. In video I was impressed and when I got my own MJ4-MN I was even more impressed! What a look and quality for that money. Basic construction competes against 1000€ instruments. Maybe picups and electronics could be more sophisticated but they are good enough for that money. Thank you Julia for helping me to find this great bass!

I’m a jaded guitarist of 10 years and bought the enhanced jazz bass recently and can say it’s absolutely more than capable for what I’m currently using it for and is a bargain for a little over £250 I almost regret not getting the cheaper one with simpler controls but I’m sure lll get the hang of the active pickups, the quality is honestly VERY good, there’s only a couple of wonky screws holding the jack plate but it’s hardly anything that negatively affects the bass 10/10 would recommend for any guitarist who wants to get a bass

When I decided, I couldn't play a larger bass, because I have small hands. I was going to get a squire or essex but then I saw the ibanez gsr 200 and I fell in love, because it had a smaller body, it felt like a small scale. It's also got p bass pick up with a bridge pick up and its got a knob which gives you a fatter sound. For around 300 dollars it was great. The exchange rate was better then as well. Now I'd pay easily 450

"I'm a little bit tiny..." - so lovely. Dear Julia, how do you compare this bass to Sandberg's? What is string spacing on five-string bass? It looks pretty wide, unlike on Harley Benton MB5. And one more thing, maybe I missed this information, but... is bridge pickup splittable? Thank you. By the way, you, Davie504, Nissa Hamzah and Danny Sapko and that's it. All of the basses had a nice-sounding neck pickup. Unfortunately, I think all three basses have the humbucker too close to the bridge, especially the P-basses. They still have an overbearing bridge-pickup "quack" even with the pickups fully blended. I think they'd be better with the humbucker moved towards the neck and closer to the MM Stingray "sweet spot", which would also give a more balanced tone when blended as well as a better tone with the bridge pickup only.

  • @jameslewis2635
    @jameslewis2635 4 роки тому

I'm not a fan of mixing single coil and humbucker. If you are going humbucker, why have a single coil adding hiss to the mix? The P-bass versions make much more sense than the Jazz to me in those terms. While it still has a pickup that gives something akin to a single coil sound, it is at least hum cancelling with both pickups.
Things I would like to see in future models would be lighter construction (it really makes a difference if you are standing up for a gig or a band practice for 4 hours at a time) and a change to the control scheme. The individual pickup volume thing is a pain for me and I prefer having a 3 way switch for selecting the pickups. Having this in combination with a blend control for the middle position and a master tone/volume circuit would probably be the best overall system around.

Its just unfortunate there isn't a US outlet. Affordable basses, are not affordable when you have to add $90 shipping.

i wish they made the "Harley Benton Enhanced MJ-4MN Milky" with the same body & everything, but with the inverted P-bass pick-up instead of the J-bass pick-up, & the ebonol fretboard with block inlays...

I'm not a HB fanboy at all but that first bass looks interesting.
