@@lifes.projects Not having a go at the garages, they were just too busy to help out in my time frame. In fact one of them lent me a 22mm socket, as I couldn't buy one locally.
That is a-knocking. Brave running it to that stage. Mines only just started, and I'm thinking about changing it. Glad to see there is nothing super technical.
Great video, wanted a memory jog as I'm on the second one of these at 210,000 miles on a 2006 van version. This vehicle has worked hard for me the last 12 years and I have no complaints at all; I'll be very sorry when it's final day comes.
Hiya! I just wanted to say that watching this video has really helped me replace my own pulley. My FL1 2005 auto has only done 76k, but was suffering from the aux belt flapping about so much it would hit the pulley above making a horrendous noise. I had trouble taking off the pulley, but with your heat tip after a few mins it cam off easily! My problem was getting the F##@@#g belt back on! You can't get a decent bite on that tensioner to slip it over. Had to do it in two, firstly hooking the belt over the aircon unit then taking a second to allow me to slide it over the idler. (with the help of a pry bar). HAPPY CHRISTMAS FL1 designers!
Always leave belt on until you get bolt off, solid flywheels conversion is a bad idea, they're there for good reason and a change will pass on stresses to gearbox and more.
Really enjoyed the commentary 👌 My harmonic pulley has just give up and I did for a couple hours thought I had a top end knock... Great video 👍 keep it up
ua-cam.com/video/KD-9FKLQSWg/v-deo.html Could do with a little advice... I have manged to replace mine but have an issue with the belt flapping... at first I thought it was a cheap pulley but then I replaced it with a higher quality one but still have an issue.
@@Adieb786 hi mate. Is the tensioner weak or still strong? If thats ok the alternator might be fitted with a clutch pulley. If it seizes up it causes this fault
Really useful, thanks. I've got the ticking noise on my 100,000 mile 2006 TD4 FL1 but the ticking goes when you remove the aircon drivebelt so I think the crankshaft pulley is just wobbling slightly but it does not seem to be getting worse and their is no metallic dust yet. I guess I will have to do this at some point. I'm surprised that you did not need to lock the engine. I guess your wrench is a 500NM wrench?
So she lives to fight another day! To say we thought she may have to have been scrapped thats a good repair. T6 is 20 years old next year not 21, was really hoping we would get her there and its looking very likely now, will have this car forever😀😀
Thanks for the great video.I believe its the same on rover 75 diesel, mine one is noisy and am hoping to change it.On ebay theres one for 34 pounds but on most sites and euro carparts its upto 187.Should i go for the expensive one or get the cheap one, thanks
Yes its the same part. I got a new pulley and aux belts for £100 off ebay. Checked the reviews were really good so went for that one. £34 seems very cheap but parts companies are really expensive. Think is with such as Euro if it fails within a year you can take it back and they will replace it under warranty.
Mine started making this horrible version of the noise this morning - I have absolutely no time to take it in until potentially Friday. Do you think it's safe to drive for the weekend?
A question about tightening the pulley bolt. You only used a impact wrench and said it will only tighten itself when engine running? are you sure as the manual says you have tighten to some incredible torgue. I have a DeWalt DCF899P2. Anyone else unsure about this or some advice. Thank you
As the engine runs it tightens the bolt up naturally. Your Dewalt gun will be fine. Tighten till its tight with the gun and you wont have a problem. Ive done loads like this and never had one come off
It can cause problems. Snap belts, belt tensioner to fail, and excessive vibration through the crankshaft that cause Duel Mass Flywheel to wear. Ive had them collapse completely and fall off causing damage.
Hola amigos tengo un problemilla tengo un freelander 1 TD4 con BMW y tengo un sonido horrible en la zona de la correa auxiliar y su tensor. Thanks for Vid. Stuck 300 miles from home and no local garage could help out. Cost a bit for tools, but got it done.
Fantastic. Wow thats shocking! Glad it helped you out.

That feeling when things finally come off 🙌
On the M47R engine 22mm Ingersoll-Rand weighted socket and a high power impact wrench such as the De-Wallt DCF899 and the crank bolts fly just fly off
Great info, great video. This is my job for this afternoon!

I've got an automatic gearbox . How do you stop the pully from turning when undoing the bolt?
Basically the same as i did it in the video
Mine started making this horrible version of the noise this morning - I have absolutely no time to take it in until potentially Friday. Do you think it's safe to drive for the weekend?
I personally wouldn't risk it until you get it diagnosed as you may cause further damage.

Mines been doing this for a while and earlier the belt completely snapped, is it replaceable or does it cause more problems? Cheers
It can cause problems. Snap belts, belt tensioner to fail, and excessive vibration through the crankshaft that cause Duel Mass Flywheel to wear.
Ive had them collapse completely and fall off causing damage.
Try using a torque multiplier to remove the bolt
Its locking the engine thats the problem with the Td4s. Usually breaks the locking tool the bolt is that tight. Great peice of kit tho!
Can I ask did you use an aftercare replacement or a genuine part?
Aftermarket part. Think it was a Moog one not expensive.
Hello bud im a bit stuck can u put the pully on is there marks for it cheers
Yes there is a little cut out on the back where is slots in along with a little hole to help align it up
What is the belt called? Is it the water pump?
Its the auxiliary belt. One belt runs the water pump, alternator and power steering pump. The other belt runs the air conditioning.
