Thanks Simon & Destiny. Good fun learning with you two, getting stuck in and making mistakes like normal people. Looking forward to more Freelander 2 content, thanks very much.
Always let the hand brake cable adjustment off first then do the shoe adjustment followed by the cable adjustment. If someone previous has just been pulling up the cable and you don't let the cable back first you can end up losing the mechanical advantage of the operating levers. Really good to see Destiny getting to grips with the job. Refreshing to see Simon giving a young woman a chance to build her confidence and get involved.
If anyone is going to the trouble of taking it all apart, they may as well change the discs and shoes at the same time. They're not expensive and it'll save doing the job again further down the line. However, Simon, I do realise you were just doing this for demonstration. A big 👍to Destiny too. She's becoming quite the little mechanic.
Great vid once again, shows that these tasks are easily achievable with your expert tuition 😊 One comment, it should be thread lock (and new bolts) on calliper bolts not reuse with copper slip as you don’t want them breaking or coming undone!
Yes the rust does secure in position, more by luck than design 😂. I replaced the pads and discs on my Evoque recently, I bought new hi tensile 10.9 grade calliper bolts that had thread lock pre applied to the threads. Front bolts were super tight at 200nm just like the Freelander. The… don’t reuse, go for new bolts is because of the stress from 110nm tightness on relatively small bolts, we could see Destiny struggle with that breaker bar to get them undone.
I set those handbrakes to 5 clicks otherwise you could habe the possibility of over heating the shoes. Did that once on a BMW and had the rear brakes smoking after about 3 miles. Had to de adjust the shoes in the drums to rectify the situation.
I hope you can make a video how to install a original video on the LR2. There are absolutely no videos. The wiring should be somewhere on the top of the tailgate pre installed?
Well done Simon and Destiny! How nice to see a young lady working on a car and learning well. I was amazed at how rusty and dirt filled the brakes were…maybe the car has had a farming life before you got it? Now I’m not the H&S Police but I was worried seeing Destiny working without plastic gloves and always best to wear a mask near brake dust. I say this after years of doing similar jobs without a thought myself but I don’t want her to hurt her fingers nor breathing that dust in…I was always outside under a windy car port so I hope that saved me🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼😀Good work Simon…I think the FL2 is already getting a cult following so I think might have a useful income stream for you very soon! Stay safe Team!! 😀😀😀😀Richard
Hi Richard good points we have been using gloves but dust mask is a good reminder ! We have taken this freelander 2 off road so that may explain the mud !
Great video, the rear disc can need a little more persuading to remove. Often you need to adjust through the hole in the disc, manually turning the shoe adjustment to get enought play to take the disc off. Seems quite some corrosion, albeit common on the FL2. I would strongly recommend grinding back and treating the chassis and affected areas 👍

Simon befor i staet to take itall apart my hand brake works its just doen't release if its been satfoe a few days is there anything i can do to get it working again thanks Ian
Love Your content and no criticism but, having just renewed my Freely 2 handbrake shoes with new rotors and pads, I feel You should also have checked operation of the cable actuating mechanism opposite the adjuster and lubricated this component? I had a completely seized actuator which I managed to free off and get working again. This took 30 minutes and a lot of forceful manipulation to get free'd off and I would have spent £18 for a new one if time allowed! I was surprised You didn't at least inspect the other components, especially as it's a complete pain in the bottom to get into there (almost impossible if the bloody thing has seized and won't let go of the rotor :{. Keep the Freely stuff coming guys as we can't all afford a new Defender :{

More freelander 2 stuff to come

Thank you for still making Freelander2 / LR2 content!!!
More to come … videos and adventures
It longer me to remove the tray than it did to carry out the (very necessary) adjustment - brilliant!
Simon put the wheels in front of the rear wheels in case the axle stands topple because if it does it safe to much grief getting it off the floor
good idea !
Great video. Do you sell the freelander graphics that are on the tailgate and rear arch? I couldn't see them on the website. Thanks.
Let me ask Ben to check

Interesting point and yes new bolts would be nice. Maybe old bolts the surface rust is a sort of thread lock ?

Generally I think if you can turn the drum by hand then you are ok but best to check on first drive
Good to see the Freely get some love Simon...bit worried that you had the back end up without any chocks on the front wheels though 😮
Any chance you are going to do more accessories for the FL2 like a mole plate etc?
That’s the plan and that is why we have dug the freelander 2 out of the bat cave
Desitny is a real star excellent job thanks
Still waiting on the Freely2 glow plug replacement full video LOL!
I get the feeling this could be a pig ?
❤ I hear EPB is a bit of a nighttime on the D4 (queued for the D4 dashcam loom 🤓🙏)
Yes sure is and ££££

I'm struggling to assemble cable end assy shoes & inside spring.
Do you have video for this?
Thanks
Another excellent video Simon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks 👍
They are so easy to work on I miss my fl2
Yes that job went like a dream!
We have just traded in our freelander 2 for a Range Rover Velar do you have any videos on the Velar.
Great video ,where did you get the light bar from? .
The light bar work light ? This is Screwfix item
very good video very helpful thanks 👍❤😊

Plan is to pressure wash and inspect and then paint/ lanoguard
Do you know where I can get the bung that fits inside the bottom of airbox to stop water getting in? Looking online but can’t find anything
I will ask destiny to look on the parts system for this

@@L663 doesn’t look like it’s on there maybe it comes with a new air box only
Simon befor i staet to take itall apart my hand brake works its just doen't release if its been satfoe a few days is there anything i can do to get it working again thanks Ian
It may just be a case of lubricating the handbrake cable and exposed joints behind the brake drums.
@@L663 thank for getting back to me i will get under it and have a look at it cheers Ian
Similar Torx 50 screw on a Mini and I've had Oxyacetalene torches on them to get them to undo.
Yes I have been caught out by these before ! The manual impact driver has saved the day before!
@@L663 have beaten the life out of an impact driver trying undo them..... granted it was a cheap nasty impact driver so no loss. 😂😂
Is that the size of the screw a Torx 50?
@@DADoughty They are M10 x 10 countersunk

Good point we did check the operation as I was showing destiny how the system works but did not put that in the video
Some monkey stuck late electric brake discs on mine, without the adjuster hole, and fudged the shoes to fit. On the list!
I can see that would give some issues !
A handbrake should have between 5-7 clicks for correct adjustment 😉.
Top job
Very nice I have received my order from shop.
👌👌❤️❤️🙏🙏
Great 👍

Best to avoid breathing in brake dust? Mask recommended.
I bet you wore that life saving mask during covid 😅
Yes and dust is not good and I did explain to destiny that old cars can have asbestos in the linings.

Mucky lens!
Sure it’s not your screen ?
@@L663 Definitely. All that light glare when facing the door is likely due to a greasy lens.
