      Reasonably fair, but Neil did make the choice to sit on a Deere tractor. I'd guess although there are a lot of brands doing it, some of them are brands that Messicks represent, so safer to sit on a tractor that he's not franchise holder for. :-)

    One of the best videos that you’ve made so far. About time someone laid out how buying something painted a certain colour can just be flushing good money down the toilet when the original manufacturer is likely cheaper and better supported.

    You have hit the nail right on the head!!! I am a satisfied Deere tractor owner but when it comes to implements I prefer to stick with the OEMs like Land Pride, Woods, etc. I have never been a fan of the Frontier line for the reasons you stated. It is just other brand stuff painted green. Another reason is it is riddled with confusion factor. Multiple styles for a similar implement with no real information on why you would choose one over the other. Just look at the selection of rear blades and landscape rakes and it will make your head explode. Multiple implements with very similar specs yet different somehow. What you say about parts and support is dead on. Most JD dealers are very poor at stocking parts for many of the Frontier implements. You are ALWAYS ALWAYS better off sticking with the company that made the equipment as a Land Pride RB1560 will always be a RB1560 and the parts will always be the same.

    I’ve got to say that I love these videos and I have a kubota. It is 18 years old. I ordered a part for a kubota implement from Messick’s and they told me it is no longer available. They were especially nice about it. But from what I understand JD has plenty of parts for all of its tractors.

    • @paullambert2668
      @paullambert2668 5 років тому +2

      Proprietary attach systems have a place. If you're only buying green, and buying your own attachments, their loader attach is actually a bit better. Not in function necessarily, but it weighs less and doesn't compromise lift capacity as much. Deere are a big company, there are plenty of third party attachments for them. However, if you want to borrow your neighbour's attachment and he doesn't own green, then SSQA is better - more likely you can share. Horses for courses and all that.

      Get a part number and google it, oftentimes in the search you'll find a link or several to a generic part and where its made. I've ran across this for just about every part you can think of....sure it may be for brand X because the part number you entered cross referenced to that brand, but if you dig deeper you'll oftentimes find the same part is used on many different brands with hundreds, sometimes thousands of part numbers cross referencing to that same part.
      I know Kubota likes to build a lot of their own stuff, but I'm sure the common switches, knobs, etc. probably all come from a bulk supplier.

    I agree that it’s usually better to go direct to the manufacturer (dealer) of the implement, especially when purchasing after your initial tractor purchase. 2 reasons to go with the rebrand: 1. One throat to choke, if you have an issue or multiple parts to round up for maintenance, you have a single stop, and 1 dealer you need to work with. 2. Financing. If you are buying a new tractor and implements, you can fold everything into 1 loan, and get all the attachments together (rebrand and name brand).

I was looking at the install instructions on the LandPride and it looks like it mounts the valve directly on the loader arm... wonder how that plays with the new LA435 Swift-tach as opposed to the LA434? Frank Ekas Jr I know you are not asking me, but I did some research into this very question. There really isn’t a good match for the 3046r in the Kubota lineup (or any other brand for that matter). The 3046r has the largest horsepower and lift capabilities in such a small frame size. This isn’t good or bad, it just IS. For example, maybe you need that small frame size...then it is good. Maybe you are concerned about stability, etc. then a larger frame size would be better (L4760, 4052R).

    Your story is not entirely true. Large companies like Kubota and John Deere do not want to put their names on inferior products. They look for things that meet their approval. If there is a quality problem, they have the clout to get their suppliers to make changes or they will cease to do business with them. What happens if you buy a box blade that you don't like. You probably wouldn't buy another one from the same company anyway, so you have a lot less clout as an individual to make them change a design. Supporting large companies like Kubota and John Deere, helps keep all manufacturers trying to build the best.

    I don't hold any grudge against JD for doing this. The bigger a company gets the harder it is to control every little piece of the company. We see this same rebranding thing in tech all the time. You might think you're buying an HP or Dell or Asus computer, but chances are they all have the same or similar motherboard, hard drive, etc.
    Luckily, in today's information age it's not too hard to track down reviews and get info on implements. Similar to my preference of buying food from local farms, I like to get implements from US based companies, like Everything Attachments or Woodmaxx. They tend to often be cheaper than name brands like Frontier or Land Pride, but also made sturdier and in the case of Woodmaxx, made by veterans. Hard to beat a higher quality product for cheaper.

    Hmm, I never thought this was anything but common knowledge. That said, I like this setup better as it is a direct use of OEM equipment and easy to get parts from the real manufacturer, even if they obfuscate the part numbers. The ones I don't like are the ones who gets stuff from other companies but used some "Proprietary" stuff that the OEM only sells to that vendor so now you can't find cheap parts and if you need XXX it may take a long time as it may not be stocked and it has to go thru more hands and red tape until it finally gets to you.

    I’ve read many statements here that are completely off base, such as Land Pride products are 100% made in the US. Neil noted in his video that a lot of the front attachments like snow blowers are made in Canada. But the reality is that Land Pride sources product from China just as the other manufacturers do. I just bought a RCR1860 Rotary Cutter. The label on it CLEARLY says “Made in China for Great Plains Mfg Inc”. I also have a new Land Pride rear blade and while I haven’t checked, I’d bet it says the same. Don’t believe for a moment that Land Pride doesn’t source product from other suppliers/manufacturers - it would be financially untenable to make it all themselves. And no I’m not a “green” guy - I just bought a new Kubota L4060. Beautiful tractor but I can guarantee there are MANY parts on that tractor sourced from China, Korea, and elsewhere. That’s simply the reality of manufacturing in these times of a global market. In fact many of the parts made offshore probably aren’t even available in the US. Let’s be clear on our facts before overstating things.

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  5 років тому

      This is not a conversation about parts, that's a global market. Referring to finished goods.

    • @profdave2861
      @profdave2861 5 років тому

      Messick's thanks - I realize your video was about finished goods, but my point is that Land Pride also sources finished goods from offshore manufacturers. The brand new Land Pride rotary cutter (1860) I received just two weeks ago is clearly labelled Made in China for Great Plains Manufacturing, contrary to several comments uploaded to this video that suggest Land Pride is 100% made in the USA. My further note about components was simply to illustrate that Kubota tractors, like almost any other complex assembly, are a conglomerations of components and subassemblies from all over the world - and they work just fine in most cases!

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  5 років тому

      That's the gearbox. The cutters are made in Abaline Kansas. I'm not suggesting other companies don't relabel finished goods to some extent, I was really clear about that. Its the existence of a complete product line that makes nothing that's unique.

    • @profdave2861
      @profdave2861 5 років тому

      Messick's thanks for clarifying that about it only being the gearbox that’s made offshore. Makes me happier to know the rest is US made - and I’m Canadian! But hey, we make great snowblowers for Land Pride up here!
      Great points in your video about simply changing paint and stickers on implements and raising the price. Unfortunately it’s not only done in agricultural implements - it’s relatively common in consumer products as well.

    gotta go with what you can get parts for years down the road. 'Most' all Kubota's i can still get parts for no matter when they were made. the same can be said for Land Pride. if you have to scrap something just because a key part is broken then it doesn't matter who built it, you still have the same result. the real problem comes in when say Woods builds something for J.D. to the spec provided by J.D., this can make it so that some key parts just don't interchange, and in 10ish years when something is broken you're screwed if neither company has replacement parts and one blames the other and vise-versa.

Now they are trying to force the original owners out of management. Next big thing is Ag-Pro, just bought out JD Equipment in London Ohio, they own 87 dealer locations in 8 states, want to take over Ohio next. 87 f-ing dealer locations over EIGHT states, sorry I,m gone, There are companies that are local owned and I can talk to the OWNER when I need to. And no, a John Deere dealer will not (under punishment by the head buck) divulge who the supplier of the implement was. So, you are not "permitted" to buy the parts directly from that manufacturer... you MUST buy a new (blessed by Deere) implement. Or, in the case of the Kawasaki generators Deere sold as their own back in the 90's, you must do without because Deere did not offer generators at that time. Folks, if you haven't been following this stuff, John Deere has become an extremely greedy, consumer adversarial, arrogant company who, if they had their own way several years ago, would be filing suit against you if you had attempted to repair your own equipment.
