don't buy sandisk or WD my passport they have HUGE known problems with data loss. ive been binge reviewing these drives and the Samsung T series are reliable. no one seems to be saying anything negative about them
I was literally just about to pull the trigger & buy the 2TB T7 (w/ fingerprint reader), but I decided to double-check the reviews.. there are kinda a lot of reported issues w/ disconnections in the middle of file transfer.. probably still gonna buy it, but yeah..
@@H0ll0WxW0lFLet us know about the T7 Touch. I am also willing to buy one. 1TB would be enough for me but how reliable is it? I want these things to store my precious data with no worries and should work reliably for long term.
Important to note you can't just use any USB-C cable with these SSDs. I tried my Crucial X8 with an Anker charging/data cable and I got limited transfer speeds of like 40MB/s sequential. Once I switched to the cable in the box, it gave me 950MB/s
USB C has variants gem 1, gen 2 and gen ,3. Gen 1 is identical to standard USB C -- the slowest Each generation increases speed by adding wires to the cable. An off-the shelf type C cable will be for gen 1. Choose wisely.
Just an hour ago I returned a 2Tb Sandisk Portable and ordered the Samsung T7 Shield. The speeds were too slow and I got it for a similar price. Your video just confirmed I did the correct choice. Thanks, Alex
I have a Sandisk Extreme 2Tb and a Samsung T3 and T5. I LOVE both Samsungs's. Both are very fast and super reliable. The Sandisk however, constantly freezes for up to 15 seconds intermittently when transferring data, so the speed is rather disappointing. Also, my cousin works with different drives in his software business. He told me they have constant problems with the Sandisk.
A lot of people haven't had great luck with SanDisk (who is now owned by western digital). My company and our customers also work with a ton of both internal and external SSD/mechanical/flash drives and SanDisk is on our do not buy list.
Mannn I bought the Samsung T7 Shield (blue like you have here) in 1TB. Hooked up to a Thunderbolt port it is LIGHTNING FAST. Backed up all of my old spinning platter drives and everything I own to this little drive. It was one of the best investments Ive ever made. Highly recommend the Samsung T7.
7:12 Months ago I was completely sold on the idea of using one of those NVMe SSD’s but the problem is that that set up is expensive and they don’t give you much more speed. I wanted to take advantage of the WD SN850 SSD card which has an advertised speed of up to 7,300MB/s. The problem is that the enclosure costs at least $200 and the 2TB card is another $200 and there’s basically nothing on the market that can handle this speed when it comes to enclosures. So you are bottle-necked by it at around 2,800MB/s. Real scenarios even lower than that. At this point, I prefer to just get a WD Black Gaming SSD that gets you 2,000MB/s or an OWC that could give you up to 2,800MB/s and save myself the hassle of Frankeinsteining one with an enclosure that would never reach even half the advertised speed.
Im glad someone has had a good experience with the SanDisk Extreme. Ive been through a few and theyve always died quickly. SanDisk support hasnt been very good. On the other hand, Samsung has rarely failed me and their support has been excellent. I love the T7 Shield (so far). I also have a regular T7 that performs well.
I am very disappointed with my SanDisk Extreme. Mine constantly freezes when transferring and the speed is nowhere near the advertised speed. A software engineer told me they have constant problems with the SanDisk tearing up.
hey, can you maybe help me with this question - does samsung t7 shield work as expected when connected to an android/iphone with password protection on, or does the password protection need to be removed in order to be connected to and files shown on an android/iphone?
Keep in mind that there's more to storage devices than just speeds. For many, durability is equally, or sometimes even more important. Just remember the old idiom: that light that shines brightest, also burns half as long.
@@minigiant8998 it does technically. brightness depends on current. more current means more brightness but also more heat, more heat means higher temperatures and reduced lifespan in general
BEWARE that there are many issues with Sandisk Extreme SSDs now. They released an updated version (pretty sure it looks just the same, just different internals) and it has been repeatedly reported as buggy. I've seen quite a few people reporting data loss too, which was not an occurrence before. I can paste the models I know of, but they are not the only ones: • SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00) • SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00) • SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00) • SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00) • WD My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY)
Great job, as always ... Thanks Alex! And, by the way, I have the Samsung T7, which works great across my devices (Windows laptop, Samsung Tab S8 Ultra and 12.9" M1 iPad Pro). I also have a separate Anker multi-port hub. I would have easily went with the ACASIS M.2 NVMe hub if that would have been available when I made those separate purchases.
thanks so much Ron! Yes the Acasis is still going strong for me, great device! But you can't go wrong with Anker either so you're fine! Happy new year!
Coincidentally in the past 12 months I have bought 4 SSDs (Samsung, WD, Sandisk & Seagate) Each 500GB for different purposes (Time Machine Backup, To store extra sounds for LogicX, for Kontakt) So far so good, no issues yet, Eventually I'll know which one wins :)
To properly evaluate an SSD you need to look at much more than speed. For example, test each block of the device to make sure it retains data. That takes a while on these larger devices and you might want to repeat the rest several times to make sure there's no drop-out. Vendors test these devices and grade them accordingly. The cheaper an SSD is the greater the risk you got a dud and a fair percentage of the device doesn't hold data.
I love ssd’s. Be careful though. I apparently killed the filesystem (HFS) on a 2tb samsung T7 by using a dongle on an iPad (I think). I had around 750GB worth of data on there and it didn’t mount on my ipad anymore. “No biggy” I thought. I just mount it on my Mbp and run Disk Utility to restructure the file system When I did a mount attempt, it crashed my macbook(reaally old 2012 model) . I thought that it was a coincidence so I tried to mount it on my second macbook(2015 intel model) and the same happened. Basically: I couldn’t mount a HFS formatted ssd on my macs at all! I had to grab my Windows machine, run a java based HFS reader to see if I could salvage the data. Didn’t expect it but it ran perfectly on my windows machine! I just did a backup and do a format. As I mentioned before. Be careful! The way that you mount an ssd is apparently very important. The power output with an Ipad is (i’m guessing) not very optimal. In my situation, it caused the drive to malfunction unfortunately.
Since the prices of NVMe m.2 have dropped to similar levels as regular SATA SSD, it’s the way to go imo for portable external storage. Pick up a suitable external caddy and you’re all set! Transfer speeds (not just read but write as well) are off the charts compared to SATA.
loved that you gave some far left options that i didnt even know about. The acasis may be exactly what im looking for. I'll know after a few days of research has been conducted. thanks for the input. youve earned my SUB.
I bought my Samsung t7 2tb for gaming, one of the best gaming upgrades ive ever gotten tbh. In multiplayer games the load times are lightning fast, im usually always the first 1-2 people that load into the game and get free pick over limited slot team roles lol
@@AlexGTech I’m using it on pc bro, honestly an excellent upgrade for gaming. Especially if you are loading games onto a HDD or if your internal drives aren’t that fast then it’s a night and day difference. For example for anyone out there who plays Hell Let Loose, Squad, or Rising Storm 2 Vietnam, I am literally always one of the first couple people to load into the map, and in those games the first people who load into the map are the first ones who get to pick which roles they want and some roles only have 2-4 slots on a team with 50 ppl each so it’s insanely beneficial to have a fast drive to get the team role you want in those games
@@AlexGTech On my C drive and on my old HDD I was always one of the last to load into the map and hardly ever got the role I wanted, after I got a T7 I’m the first one loaded in almost every match on those games
Those custom built drives are almost 1:1 in performance. By 1:1 I mean they perform almost as if they are directly attached to a motherboard PCIe slot. Good video sir.
hey, can you maybe help me with this question - does samsung t7 shield work as expected when connected to an android/iphone with password protection on, or does the password protection need to be removed in order to be connected to and files shown on an android/iphone?
Fyi, if anyone wants to encrypt their data, the sandisk portable takes a MASSIVE performance hit and write speeds become slower than a mechanical HDD, i get around 30Mb/s. My Samsung T7 touch on the other hand barely takes any performance hit and still cranks over 900Mb/s
Oh great point, thanks for reminding me about that. The T7 is a great SSD, not sure what Samsung did with that but it's an awesome value, especially if you get it on a deal
I wish you would have tested a PC also. However, great video. Thank you for testing the Samsung TabS8 Ultra.I have that tablet and transfer speed on it is very important. I had just returned my 2TB T7 to replace my SanD 1TB extreme. The 2TB T7 was only 25% as fast, super slow beyond belief. I may go back to the store today and try a different one. I love my 1TB SanD extreme, but need more space.
Hi there, I did not have a PC at the time only a virtual machine. But I do have one now so I will include that in my next review of SSDs - thanks for the feedback though 👊🏼
T7 and Crucial were the best ones for me from a performance point of view. For higher performance (like editing videos off of them, I use the M.2 cards with Acasis, saved me a tone of money)
I am using T7 1Tb, Lacie rugged thunderbolt 3 2Tb, 3 WD ultra passport 4TB and still need for more probably.:( For me I think each can depend on the occasion purposes. If need fast, thunderbolt Lacie rugged is the one. If in the middle rush, then the T7 will be named. Otherwise, just ordinary download and for the longterm, storage, WD 4tb will be the cost effective choice. For your clip: I still prefer the chapters to be easier watching. As also a youtuber I know clearly how hard to follow the tech subject so come on, you’ve got my support! Thanks and keep doing a good work though!🤟👌
Thank you for this review, I've read lots of feedback from buyers of the Crucial X8 and they state that it starts FAST, but quickly drops off when moving larger files. For now, I'll stick with the T7 Shield as I've been able to give presentations from it with video/photo content. I visited your presentation just to see if something faster or more dependable is out. Thanks and I wish you all the best. Being able to work directly from the T7 Shield is a big advantage when we're having to use systems already installed at lecture halls.

@@AlexGTech Tempted to get two of these Crucials and put them into a raid for the speed on a Mac Mini to act as my external HD. Then back up everything to a 4GB external HD every night. That would elimate the mess of SATA SSD's littering my desk. Shocked how horrible and expensive most options are after all this time.
Great production quality. I have 2 SanDisk 1tb, they're great, but that cable is just ridiculously short and rigid. Opted to trial the Samsung T7 just for video editing. 📹
I have a few T7's and love them. Just a note on the size they fit in the business card slots of every bag I carry electronics in which I find very handy!
Excellent video. All the information I was looking for to make an informed purchase, plus bonus info and answers to questions that I didn't even know to ask yet. Subscribed.
Don’t really watch these kind of videos but you got an instant sub just when you were honest enough to say to not buy your merch. Honesty above everything!
Nice video. Your test data spreadsheet is messed up though. The times for the speed tests seem to be showing as actual time of days eg: 17:32 or 5:32 am rather than duration.
Thanks for the video! @5:58 - This part was really important for me. Temps after stress test is a real thing now, mainly because of Tesla. I'm looking for a good capacity, good speed, good temp SSD for the TeslaCam. I seen some videos on the Samsung T7 having issues with overheating, so I'm gonna get the Crucial X8. Advice: definitely keep temps as a point of focus in future videos because as Tesla gets more popular other companies are gonna follow, and thus more cars are going to have built in cams that are going to need these kinds of SSD with low temp and high speeds.
This was so good, man. Very well done, Alex. And then you have that chill/relaxed way of speaking (maybe I’m copying you a bit-maybe we’re speak in similar ways) and that gives a lot of confidence! But the most important thing is that you show real facts to your audience. Bravo, brother. Hey, nice graphics in post. What plugin is that? (Just kidding, lol) Keep rocking, man
Thanks Ruben, really appreciate you saying that! To tell you the truth, for ages I tried to sound more "upbeat" or more excited about stuff which wasn't really how I am outside of videos. The more I just bring the real "me" into videos the better they do it seems, which is reassuring. Your content is amazing and you are very easy to watch, I know that once YT realises that and pushes your content, your channel will go places! Let's keep pushing and learning like you say 😊 Oh the graphics are MotionVFX, I need to do a video about that, maybe in Dec/Jan when things are quieter. They have a deal right now across the site so worth a check. I have an affiliate link too, but I can't find it right now 😂 30% off I believe even without my links
@@AlexGTech Thanks buddy! I was kidding about the plugins! I know there are from MotionVFX, I just said it cause I did a video recently about that and the deals they're having, lol!
Thanks for the idea! Tricky to find a balance of video length and information but will certainly think of something for next time, maybe as an unlisted video that people can watch if they want to, but "hidden" from the algorythm so it doesnt hurt the channel views. Hmmm, yeah I think that might work...
I was looking for a portable SSD for my PS4 games on my PS5 and one for my laptop and was thinking about the T7, T7 Touch or T7 Shield now I know Samsung is the way to go.
The problem what most of these drive have, it;s that they throttle instantly when thermals kick in. This means, if you have to store some bigger or just many files, the speed will going down, after a short period. Best thing to do, is to buy a good external case, nice an cool, put a ssd into and then you will sustain high transfer rates over longer periods.
I agree, I found the same with cheaper drives. Some don't throttle as much but they all slow down for large transfers. the Acasis option I shared here has been amazing for me as I edit videos (about 200GB of footage per video, every week).
Thanks for that. (My original comment disappeared, so here's one without links...) I particularly like the standard size T7 drives, as they are the width/length of a credit card and 6-7 non-embossed cards thick, plus are metal and are routinely available in the UK for ninety-something quid for the 2TB ones. Rather entertainingly they do tend to charge differently by your colour choice, so grey can be the cheap option. I also like the simple way the encryption works (I have one set as encrypted and one not, the encryption doesn't work with my M1 iPad Pro). BTW I see some people are VERY unhappy with their Sandisk drives: The Verge: "We just lost 3TB of data on a SanDisk Extreme SSD" ARS Technica: "SanDisk’s silence deafens as high-profile users say Extreme SSDs still broken" (I don't use the drives so know nothing more, but you might want to look into firmware versions...) Some thoughts: - sometimes the capacity affects the performance, by having wider memory. Probably best to benchmark all the same size drives if possible. - The T7 that is almost full (the encrypted one) did seem to slow down its write speeds as it got close to its capacity. BTW in the Samsung app it shows details on the drive and includes the USB speed. Mine say "USB 3.2 gen 1" which surprised me as they are supposed to be gen 2 devices and I had them connected to a USB 3.0 port. A coffee later I remembered USB3.2 gen 1 and USB 3.0 are exactly the same thing and it was just showing the connected speed, but it would have been nice of them to label it or give all 3 possible names (as USB 3.1 gen 1 is also the same thing).
@@nazmulhuda3262. It's a tricky one as SSDs have a chequered record for long-term storage, as do most other things alas. Perhaps the best thing is to use disks with error correction (e.g. RAID5 in a NAS) and upgrade them over time. Perhaps with a separate USB3-4 disk backup too. You can get optical disks rated for long-term storage, but still seem brave. Tape drives can produce long-term data but that's no good if the drive dies and there isn't a compatible replacement model.
Great video! I've been on a binge and learning so much!! Quick question -- do you prefer or see a big difference between the Acasis TBU405 enclosure and the Acasis TBU401?
Oh thank you! I definitely prefer the 401. Both work very similarly but 401 is constantly on my M1 Max MacBook Pro. The 405 works well but seems to struggle when connecting my M2 MacBook Air (when travelling and not connected to a power source) Other than that, both are amazing.
@@AlexGTech THANK YOU! I was going back and forth between the two but will go with the TBU401 and perhaps go back for the Acasis 10 in 1 enclosure as well
small correction about the heat... the drive getting hot is actually a sign of good cooling, if it stays cool to the touch thst means the heat stays inside which isn't good
Hey, great video! As for as I'm concerned the SanDisk Portable is NOT advertised as 1050 MB/s but 520 MB/s hence the performance difference you encountered. I'm not sure but there might be a model that goes up to 800MB/s too, but definitely no model that goes over 1000 MB/s. Cheers 🤙
My SSD is the 1TB version of SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2. The first time, I experienced file loss which led to the disappearance of all my files. Even though I used EaseUS software, the recovered video files turned out to be damaged. Fortunately, I had file backups. So, I decided to format the SSD, changing the file format from ExFAT to APFS, as it's said to be better for Apple systems. With a mindset of giving it a try, I decided not to return the SSD and continued using it. However, after a week of formatting, during one of my usage sessions, the same issue occurred again - all files were lost! Within just two weeks, this SSD lost my files twice. I can no longer use a drive that is prone to randomly losing files; it's unbearable for me!
Awesome recommendations. I think my question will be, does the Cruicial SSD support gaming platforms such as Playstation and Xbox, with no formatting needed
2:24 thought it was a phone cover with an ssd attached at the back, would’ve been good for portability since you’ll never forget it unless you forget your phone too
Was thinking about getting 2 SSDs - One would be a 500gb boot drive (not sure if this amount is necessary) - and then my main SSD would be a 2TB drive. Wouldn't mind just having my Windows being booted on my main 2TB drive but im not sure if that impacts performance whatsoever. I'm unsure which brands to go for and what to get so some tips would be really helpful!
@dybefapi8694 not exactly sure of the difference between internal ssds and portable ones. But for more clarification they're both M.2 NVME drives (samsung 970 evo plus). Was planning on choosing a 500gb Samsung 970 e plus for the boot then the 2tb for games/software/drives etc. Though now I'll probably choose a 250gb boot drive.
Thank you I’m in the market for an external SSD and Looking for some review. I got scared by some of the sandisk reviews which said it died within a year
I was contemplating on getting a 2TB MacBook or an external solution, I guess I decided to save the upgrade and use an external enclosure and get a Gen 4 SSD, thanks for the tips, subbed :)
Would you be open to testing the all new Tropic Color Space shuttle? It just recently came onto the scene and beat all of these drives by a LARGE margin.
One of the most friendliest and detailed review channels. Thanks for another wonderful review. I'm not sure if it was me not paying attention, but wished that you had concluded what was the fastest drive for a M1 MBP user. Many thanks!
Great reviews - I’ve been using the Sandisk Extreme 4TB for a year now on an M1 MacBook Pro, haven’t had any issues as it is mostly in support of photo and video edit’s using Lightroom and Premier Pro. I’m looking for a bit more speed, especially when batch editing for time lapse and like the enclosure option. Do you have a recommendation for the memory for an enclosure?
Hi Matt, thank you! Yes I use the Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 (2TB in my case). On their website they provide a little table with supported cards, but I’ve been able to edit 4K videos straight from it 🤯
@@AlexGTech Really appreciate that advice Alex! Most of my time lines are pretty basic, so this should be more than adequate. I’m trying to streamline my work flow and make sure I’m only generating videos on the ssd while placing images and final work on the external hhd. Thank you again for the insight!
Just to say (I realize this isn't everyone) but my T7 was a joke, returned it to Amazon for the SanDisk. The T7 would freeze constantly and not copy much. Worse, you could not EVER put something back onto the main HD. It would freeze and tell you "nope" every time. Cost me a lot of grief when trying to do a clean install. Tried all the suggestions, none of it worked. Even formatted it and started over. I'm sure others have it working well, but it really cost me allot of time for nothing. However, the SanDisk has been really good. It's still glitchy when trying to save some things (maybe someone can clue me in, why doesn't it want to save/copy to new drive stuff like "Revo Uninstaller?" It's a small easy to DL product, but I really want all of my stuff available at all times. But I digress, hundreds of GB's were easily transferred and installed recently, which is what you buy it for in the first place ;)
How did you got this speed out of the crucial x8? I have had the x6, which only have written with 30MB/s after several seconds. Thus wasn't only me. Many Amazon reviews have had the same issue. Is the x8 so much better?
Hi there! I tried 10GB and 100GB file transfers (mix of videos and photos in a folder) from and to the M1 Max MacBook Pro, M1 and M2 iPad Pro, Air, and Tab S8 Ultra. I also ran a couple of synthetic benchmark tests. The details are in the spreadsheet in the description 👊🏼
I already own the 2 tb t7 shield, & I am happy with it. Though I need more space for my up-scaled videos as they take up a lot of space. My next ssd will be the 4 tb sandisk extreme pro which I will get very soon(thanks for the link).
6:41 I just bought a Crucial X8 2Tb, the same you've tested here. And I have to say I am quite disapointed at my first transfer. It starts very good, over 1TB/s, but it quickly droped to around 700MB/s, then 500, then 300 and after few minutes it stagnate around 55MB/s... I believe it's because of the cache memory filling up, but I'm wondering how you get these numbers for heavy files 🤔 PS: I am a videographer and filmmaker, I mostly copy heavy files all the time :/
@@peterimade003 I've looked online and it seems to be known, they have great speed but slow sustain... It's good if you work woth little files but not for filmmakers :/
@@bvc1922 I went for the Sandisk 2Tb, normal version, not pro. And it's perfect 👌 However, watch out for the 4Tb, there is a lot of failures with it :/
Unfortunately, my first experience with crucial drive has been nothing about disappointment. I have number of Samsung i.e. T3, T5 and T7. But crucial price was enticing so, I decided to give it a try and was I disappointed! After first file copies it died. Go figure! I return it for another T7.

Because it's American
Is it the original or the v2 version of the Sandisk extreme. The acutely card is from WD
Nice one!!
Do you use Samsung T7 Shield you in windows or in MAC. Do you still like T7?
@@MYLIFE-hq7je I use mine for Windows 11 and it works phenomenally.
Does Samsung t7 can be used to transfer files to iphone 14 with a adaptor
Bought the t7 shield today hoping I can use it for steam and steam games,, what ya think? I dont have thunderbolt but do have 3.1 usb's
Coming from the camera world, the T5 and now T7 are industry standards for me.
Yeah heard some horror stories recently about SanDisk, but personally had never had any issues.
@@AlexGTech SanDisk have a good reputation in the camera world, atleast their SD/CF cards
I wish it wasn’t this ugly tho
He was probably paid, because he never mentioned how bad the SanDisks are.
hey, can you maybe help me with this question - does samsung t7 shield work as expected when connected to an android/iphone with password protection on, or does the password protection need to be removed in order to be connected to and files shown on an android/iphone?

Keep in mind that there's more to storage devices than just speeds. For many, durability is equally, or sometimes even more important. Just remember the old idiom: that light that shines brightest, also burns half as long.
doesnt apply to LED lights.
Egg 🥚
@@minigiant8998 it does technically. brightness depends on current. more current means more brightness but also more heat, more heat means higher temperatures and reduced lifespan in general
BEWARE that there are many issues with Sandisk Extreme SSDs now. They released an updated version (pretty sure it looks just the same, just different internals) and it has been repeatedly reported as buggy. I've seen quite a few people reporting data loss too, which was not an occurrence before. I can paste the models I know of, but they are not the only ones:
• SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00)
• SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00)
• SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00)
• SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00)
• WD My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY)
Thanks for this, I just uploaded a new version mentioning this issue: ua-cam.com/video/hg2AVhkJ-uw/v-deo.htmlsi=bd89tEnhX7ehaYZV
Hi Ron. Did you format samsung ssd into exfat type to use multiple operating system?
Your smile while talking gives me a positive vibe! Keep up the excellent work!
Thank you so much! Will do! Glad you enjoyed it, I should do an update on this very soon!
Coincidentally in the past 12 months I have bought 4 SSDs (Samsung, WD, Sandisk & Seagate)

Great video. Thank you for showing up the ACASIS option. I went for it.
Which SSDs do you recommend? I am randomly getting your disk was improperly ejected messages from my San Disk Extreme.
I love ssd’s. Be careful though. I apparently killed the filesystem (HFS) on a 2tb samsung T7 by using a dongle on an iPad (I think). I had around 750GB worth of data on there and it didn’t mount on my ipad anymore. “No biggy” I thought. I just mount it on my Mbp and run Disk Utility to restructure the file system
When I did a mount attempt, it crashed my macbook(reaally old 2012 model) .
It happened to my PS5
Since the prices of NVMe m.2 have dropped to similar levels as regular SATA SSD, it’s the way to go imo for portable external storage. Pick up a suitable external caddy and you’re all set! Transfer speeds (not just read but write as well) are off the charts compared to SATA.
Very true! I’ve been loving the Acasis stuff and editing all my videos off of them, amazing performance!

I bought my Samsung t7 2tb for gaming, one of the best gaming upgrades ive ever gotten tbh. In multiplayer games the load times are lightning fast, im usually always the first 1-2 people that load into the game and get free pick over limited slot team roles lol
Nice! I did not know how good it would be for gaming. Assume you are using it on a PC? Or do you use it with a console?

Agree 100%. I encrypted my SanDisk Extreme and it is only slightly faster than my WD HDD.
I’ve been rocking the Samsung T5’s for a long time now, solid choice, but they’re getting kinda old now, thinking of upgrading to a T7 🤔
T7 and Crucial were the best ones for me from a performance point of view. For higher performance (like editing videos off of them, I use the M.2 cards with Acasis, saved me a tone of money)
I have the regular Samsung T7 and It's so impressive well !

That’s great insight! Thank you for bringing this to my attention 👊🏼 will definitely keep that in mind!
Thanks for this great update! Is the real speed not just capped by the usb port on the computer?
Certainly varies by device which is why I included speeds on a beefy laptop such as the M1 Max MBP as well as “not so beefy” tablets

I was looking for a portable SSD for my PS4 games on my PS5 and one for my laptop and was thinking about the T7, T7 Touch or T7 Shield now I know Samsung is the way to go.
Which one did you get? And how's it going?
The problem what most of these drive have, it;s that they throttle instantly when thermals kick in. This means, if you have to store some bigger or just many files, the speed will going down, after a short period. Best thing to do, is to buy a good external case, nice an cool, put a ssd into and then you will sustain high transfer rates over longer periods.
I agree, I found the same with cheaper drives. Some don't throttle as much but they all slow down for large transfers. the Acasis option I shared here has been amazing for me as I edit videos (about 200GB of footage per video, every week).
Since we use these as backup for important data, how durable or rugged are these? Can they store data for years and years?
Very important question, and I wonder if these ssds came be encrypted !!!

Hello there, great video. I am interested in the Acasis hub. What NVME card do you recommend? I am using it for storage and for my Logic Pro projects
Hiya, I use the Sabrent one: excellent performance: amzn.to/3QGhWR7
Thanks for that.
(My original comment disappeared, so here's one without links...)
I particularly like the standard size T7 drives, as they are the width/length of a credit card and 6-7 non-embossed cards thick, plus are metal and are routinely available in the UK for ninety-something quid for the 2TB ones. Rather entertainingly they do tend to charge differently by your colour choice, so grey can be the cheap option. I also like the simple way the encryption works (I have one set as encrypted and one not, the encryption doesn't work with my M1 iPad Pro).
BTW I see some people are VERY unhappy with their Sandisk drives:
The Verge: "We just lost 3TB of data on a SanDisk Extreme SSD"
ARS Technica: "SanDisk’s silence deafens as high-profile users say Extreme SSDs still broken"
(I don't use the drives so know nothing more, but you might want to look into firmware versions...)
Some thoughts:
- sometimes the capacity affects the performance, by having wider memory.
How would it be to get T7 touch for long term storage and use purpose? Is it reliable?
@@nazmulhuda3262. It's a tricky one as SSDs have a chequered record for long-term storage, as do most other things alas.
Perhaps the best thing is to use disks with error correction (e.g. RAID5 in a NAS) and upgrade them over time. Perhaps with a separate USB3-4 disk backup too.
You can get optical disks rated for long-term storage, but still seem brave.
Tape drives can produce long-term data but that's no good if the drive dies and there isn't a compatible replacement model.
Thanks for the video!

Crucial best value for money. I did a new version of this video here: ua-cam.com/video/hg2AVhkJ-uw/v-deo.htmlsi=Yb6c-0URv9T2tt9k
Yes I've seen the recent news on them, don't think I will be recommending them anymore, until I know they're are reliable.
Something to look into. I’m hearing photographers are having issues of deleting large folder of files from the San disk ssd since updating to Ventura
Awesome recommendations. I think my question will be, does the Cruicial SSD support gaming platforms such as Playstation and Xbox, with no formatting needed

I'm unsure which brands to go for and what to get so some tips would be really helpful!
Wouldn’t it be better to buy internal ssd instead of portable ones to make it your main computer drives? And yes, 500 is quite a lot

Mine transfers games on Xbox series s 2.5 gb per second (x6)
After reading all the comments, I feel like Samsung and crucial would be the best ones. Thanks for the video. It was very informative
Just ordered the Samsung because it seems trustworthy and good quality overall. Hope it’s the best I’ve never tried Samsung as SSD
Man you are a hero! Superb review and production! Thankyou!
My sandisk is terrible. It keeps corrupting video files, I’ll never buy another one.
What app did u on your ultra s8 to view the progress of the transfer ?
Hi there, that's called Solid Explorer.
love from India, really loving content which is true in everysense
Thank you so much!!
I already own the 2 tb t7 shield, & I am happy with it. Though I need more space for my up-scaled videos as they take up a lot of space. My next ssd will be the 4 tb sandisk extreme pro which I will get very soon(thanks for the link).
they have a t7 shield 4gb. it's currently $250.. last week it was $220...
Well I wanted to buy one but there are way too many issues reported on them
WAIT WAIT DONT GET SANDISK
check the reports, they will give you sudden data loss
and other annoying shenanigans
@@geoeira Thanks, never got sandisk.
I believe it's because of the cache memory filling up, but I'm wondering how you get these numbers for heavy files 🤔
PS: I am a videographer and filmmaker, I mostly copy heavy files all the time :/
That's weird, use the cord that came with it and test, or format it exfat
@@peterimade003 I've looked online and it seems to be known, they have great speed but slow sustain...
It's good if you work woth little files but not for filmmakers :/
After reading some comments, all I can see is crucial starts very fast and then becomes slow. T7 shield is probably the one for me
@@bvc1922 I went for the Sandisk 2Tb, normal version, not pro. And it's perfect 👌
However, watch out for the 4Tb, there is a lot of failures with it :/
@@TaoCovillault thanks for the feedback, 2 tb is enough for me cus im not into filmmaking like you haha
Unfortunately, my first experience with crucial drive has been nothing about disappointment. I have number of Samsung i.e. T3, T5 and T7. But crucial price was enticing so, I decided to give it a try and was I disappointed! After first file copies it died. Go figure! I return it for another T7.
So what do you mean is the best is T7 ??
Is it okay to buy the Sandisk 4TB now?
Thank you for your thorough analysis. I am not in the market at the moment for one but likely will be shortly and this will help greatly.
Thank you for the kind words Erik! I need to do an update video on this, including Windows performance so stay tuned 👊🏼
@@AlexGTech When I decide to buy one, I will come back to your site and buy it via whatever purchase links you post that give you your well earned commission.
If I were you and producing videos that require intensive organization and God only knows how much time to produce, I would in each video as well as on your site attached to each video politely suggest that if the viewer finds your content and hard work helpful and want to buy one of the items reviewed that they kindly consider using the links provided from which you will receive a small commission, thereby making your channel possible and enable you to produce more, helpful content.
Also, what about less than portable, stand alone SSDs beyond 4 or so terabytes?
I work in fine art - creating and producing large format giclees from one to one, direct scans of original paintings that, depending on their original dimensions and the resolution - say 400 plus DPI - can end up being around 1.5 gigs - such files end up adding up and all once painstakingly proofed are invaluable to me.
I work exclusively with Windows computers; never accursed Apple products!
Keep up the good work because? We inquiring minds want to know what we don't know!

👍👍👍 I like your style! Thanks for all the info!
