    The Vikings continued their raids and reached as far south as Seville, which they plundered in 844. However, they were eventually defeated by the forces of Abd al-Rahman II near Tablada, just outside the city. Many of the Vikings were killed or captured, and this event marked one of the first significant Muslim victories over the Norsemen.

    @10:18: That would have to be read "Harold the First", as the *"I"* is the Latin symbol for ordinal number "1" (One), and not "eye".
    *PS:* We have to say "Norse" or *"Norsemen"* for the *Vikings who stayed in Scandinavia* ; otherwise, *"Normans"* specifically refers only to the *Vikings who went south to France and Italy.* Meanwhile, "Varangians" are the Vikings who went east and southeast to Eastern Europe and the Byzantine Empire.

    Great work, my compliments! I especially liked the animations that fit exactly to what happened and second the explanation of things not just saying: It was like that. Because often Historians miss that. Many thanks! ❤❤❤

    Never realized how much the world actually owes to crazy sailors going back'n'forth everywhere trading, pillaging and spreading knowledge of other cultures. Kind of like you dread the sails in the horizon at first, but decades later you realize as a nation you are now more aware, organized and smarter than before, and you've heard of places and technologies you didn't think would exist, and vice versa for the vikings too.

    The old capital of the vikings in Denmark, called Aros, has just been escavated in the middle of the city of Aarhus, situated in the center of the mainland. Worth a visit going ca. 4 meter below nowadays street level, with the original viking houses and other remains from the viking age, when most of scandinavia and the British Isles, were ruled from The old city that also was the primary residence of king Harold Bluetooth.

    The flag used for the battle of Clontarf Ireland 1014 in this video needs to be removed. It is a modern invention that represents British loyalists who live in Northern Ireland, which is a large portion of the Irish province of Ulster, and this flag is used by various loyalist terrorist groups to represent their allegiance to Britain and not an officially recognised flag by anyone. On top of that, the battle took place in the province of Leinster in southern Ireland and nowhere near Ulster. So the use of this flag is inaccurate, anachronistic, divisive and offensive to those who have lost loved ones to loyalist terrorists.

    • @FrankJmClarke
      @FrankJmClarke Рік тому

      That flag is ridiculous. It isn't offensive, it's just the flag of the former Government of Northern Ireland and common flag of Northern Ireland from 1953 until that government was abolished in 1973 with the passing of the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973.

      The flag used has never existed anyways. The flag of Northern Ireland is a St George's cross not a saltire.

    Ok so unreal 1 was not wrong about the Skaarj aliens because they also established their Bases on Northside of the planet Na Pali above the European like land, and Both Krall who are Romans and Nalis who main origin is Celtic followed by Christianity and other, and Aztec and Mayan religion for the last. And both Krall and Nali were enslaved. Krall were also threat to Nali just like Romans in Real life, but they were not as bad as Skaarj living under the Cold electrical Asgard looking Storm above the bases on The Northside land of the planet the ISV kran talks about

      If two people who have no contact from different sides of the globe come up with the same idea and implement it did they invent or did they copy the person they've never heard of?

    The French called all vikings the Normans which in English means Northmen, the vikings were helping Saxon king Widukind stop misunderstood christian invaders eventaully Widukind made peace with the christians that the vikings also made peace with after peaceful resolution was made. The Saxon tribe of Wotan king of the Æsir from Asian Minor and the Christian both rebelled against the cruelty of ancient Roman empire that ruined Europe by forcing christians out of their land into Europe, eventaully the two forces of christians of st.george and the Saxons would united to create the English empire of St.George that opposed the inhumane execution of St.George and even William Wallace whose own clan Wallace would be saved from great depression by the English order of St. george during the first industrial revolution.

      Vikings used sun stone, son.

    • @patrickcain9082
      @patrickcain9082 2 роки тому +9

      The Chinese had compasses before the Vikings, however, they were used for land navigation. It’s theorised that the Vikings used a different type of compass, a sunstone. “Between AD 900 and AD 1200 Vikings, being able to navigate skillfully across the open sea, were the dominant seafarers of the North Atlantic. When the Sun was shining, geographical north could be determined with a special sundial. However, how the Vikings could have navigated in cloudy or foggy situations, when the Sun's disc was unusable, is still not fully known. A hypothesis was formulated in 1967, which suggested that under foggy or cloudy conditions, Vikings might have been able to determine the azimuth direction of the Sun with the help of skylight polarization, just like some insects. This hypothesis has been widely accepted and is regularly cited by researchers, even though an experimental basis, so far, has not been forthcoming. According to this theory, the Vikings could have determined the direction of the skylight polarization with the help of an enigmatic birefringent crystal, functioning as a linearly polarizing filter.” (On the trail of Vikings with polarized skylight: experimental study of the atmospheric optical prerequisites allowing polarimetric navigation by Viking seafarers, Horvath et al, online). The English weren’t telling lies, at all.
