15 year chronic survivor now in complete remission. Had 4 brain surgeries that made me worse. Then I’m the first human in recorded history to have stem cell for clusters. It worked. Been in remission plus many other health problems from stem cell. Pain free wishes everyone.
Can you tell me more about it? I'm living with it for 9 years now. I have breaks of about 2 to 4 weeks before it hits again. I wish I had those long epidoses of pain free times
Cluster headaches are unilateral Mine are on the right side. My eyeball, my temple, top of my head(right side obviously). My eye droops and tears. My right nostril starts to run. Its hell on earth
I managed to combat my cluster headache by drinking 3l of water a day, regular hard exercises (not just a small walk), make sure to have enough sleep, and avoid drinking "heavy" drinks e.g. red wine, whiskey. I hope this helps someone
Ironically I did the opposite, I used to exercise and be a really low weight and i think that stressed me out because I was always worrying about my diet/appearance, since I've put on weight and just enjoyed my life a little more I haven't had any attacks during my normal cluster period
I had my first CH 3 months ago, at the age of 22. I didn’t know anything about CH at the time, nor had I heard about it. I have had 4 CH episodes since then, never felt so much pain before. Warm thoughts to those of you who have lived with CH for years
My heart goes out to all you youngsters that suffer with this. I was about 50 when mine started, and I've had them for about 13 years, with very few breaks each year. Do all you can to get help for them, as they don't go away.
@Jose Can you try explaining how it feels to someone who's never experienced it? This popped up in my feed and I decided to click on it; the comments are actually depressing, hope you're getting better
@Shoto Todoroki For me it feels like the back of my eye is burning or even melting out of extreme heat. I feel my brain at the back of my eye is actually magma. I can't stand still I keep pacing and tearing up from the left eye. and nothing relifs it. no meds nothing. tried oxygen tanks it did reduce the pain. I don't wish this pain on any person
Mine started at 22 as well, but I kindof lucked out. I’m 40 now and mine only show up once a day for a week or two every 8 years. By this time you’ve probably figured out part of your CH cycle. If they appear very frequently I’d use treatment starting with oxygen since it has little to no side effects. If it is like mine and pretty infrequent I’d only use oxygen and only if you have to. Just always remember there is nothing actually physically wrong with you.
Mine started in 2015, my neuro treated it with prednisolone for 3 weeks. It stopped for a few yrs and it is haunting me again. Having a suicide headache while scrolling to yt videos about CHs at the moment. It always wakes me up in my deep sleep at midnight. It is a headache from hell, indeed!
7 in 24 hours is my record. I used to get normal migraines as a young man, but for some reason they changed to be the cluster type of headache. I was given oxygen at the London migraine clinic but that didn’t help either. Eventually at about the age of 55 I grew out of them and haven’t had a single one in 16 years. HEAVEN!!! Bye the way loud noises, hot rooms or any sort of alcohol (especially red wine) were a absolute no no if I wanted to stay relatively safe. Thanks
Damn buddy my worst cycle I was up to 8 some days . The name suicide headaches showed itself to me very hard those days. I was close to it. These things no joke brother glad your through yours. Sadly a new cycle just started for me last week , so far they’ve been the worst ever in the 7 years I’ve had em. Had 4 today 😢😅
The exact cause of cluster headaches is unknown, but cluster headache patterns suggest that abnormalities in the body's biological clock (hypothalamus) play a role. Unlike migraine and tension headache, cluster headache generally isn't associated with triggers, such as foods, hormonal changes or stress.
THERE IS NO PREVENTIVE I been to all the experts it seems some who make 650 a visit I myself knew more than they did and i myself would never submit to someone working on my brain. I have tried everything he has listed nothing helped to prevent verapamil is for people who have high blood pressure if you dont it will make you feel like do do all day. Oxygen can be dangerous as well most has to be submitted at a hospital. It is triggered by a hormone that is in higher concentration more than other humans the hormone serotonin is secreted by everyone in sleep and at the rem stage or 1 and half hrs. It is released into the bloodstream. The problem is the concentration level causes a artery to elongate and it hits the trigemental nerve. It will wake you up with blazing pain. Which sends the pain though the side it affects the optic nerve is affected by this and as long as the artery hits the nerve there will be intense pain. It can cause anxiety you dont want to go to bed knowing that in a hr and half you be up. I have dealt with it for 11 years but mine are different they occur everyday without a period of remission between them. So its chronic. They are hereditary. They are cyclic to almost the hour and minute two times a day they are triggered by weather fronts. High pressure or low pressure weather changes. Cold or heat in the face can trigger. Alchohol drinking makes them more severe. Alcohol releases serotonin and slows the oxygen to the brain. So no cold beer anymore after cutting the lawn. My treatment that seems the only thing to bring relief not a preventative is during the attack is pregizone 20 mg. I take it during the attack. Percet 10 mg for the pain but u cant take as a preventive it doesn't work it has to be at the start of the attack..ondestertron will help keep the medicine down if you become nasus and toss up the medicine. Which if you just took it you have to keep it in you. But In a sink run as hot as you can stand it water over your head it will stimulate the blood vessels and get that artery to shrink back but still you will deal with the intensity for 15, 30, 45 minutes there is no set time it is when that artery goes back to normal that it will end. I have had days that the pressure in the temple lasted all day and every 2 hrs pain would occur there is a bad day of the week more than the other days and a bad day of the month it is in cycles. Which the hypothalamus controls the serotonin hormone and and its other hormones. It also regulates body temperature thats why you feel a chill before it happens or wake up burning hot even though the temperature of the room is not cold or hot. There isnt much you can do but learn how to react to the pain and mentally control your emotions god bless
I found for myself that even a 0.1l of beer, destroyes my head. Always the same pain behind my left eye. So i stopped drinking beer, i still get the hedaches but not that often.
Yeah that's what I discovered as well. A neuropathway is activated and during this activation period, well, if you experience cluster headaches, it's torture. Not even being hyperbolic. The research suggests myriad of things cause this activation from smoking, caffeine, alcohol, irregular sleep patterns and several other possibilities. There is no substantiated research that experts can comfortably point to. The information that's available is purely speculative and based on existing neurological insights. And so there's no effective treatment for conquering this condition once and for all or effectively eliminating the extreme pain. Many people referenced different ways for pain management and as any person experiencing cluster headache knows, none of those methods actually alleviate the pain or entirely prevent these neuropathways from reactivating in the way that they do.
I hope this post helps someone. These are methods I find effective in helping cope if not alleviating the pain. I’m 46 and had my first at 15. 15 minutes to 8 hrs straight. My best go to is heat. Boiling water and breathing in the steam sometimes works almost instantly, and usually at least makes it more bearable. Be sure to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration. I also use ice cubes in my mouth or placed in a ziplock bag placed directly on trouble spots i.e. top of the head; on eye or jaw; back of neck; moving to points that hurt the most. Marching in place preferably in the dark and focusing on rotating my shoulders as the pain can radiate down my neck and into my shoulders and chest. Massaging gums and conversely keeping mouth completely shut with teeth closed can help as well. Lastly, removing all sweets from my diet including sugar free foods and zero calorie drinks like crystal light and even fruit really help. I always cycle through these routines until relief comes as I feel to suffer in silence only makes it worse. They last everyday at the same time for months or days and disappear for years or weeks. I don’t really drink have never smoked and stay pretty calm. Again I hope this helps someone as no one should have to suffer like this.
@@deegeorge5711 Time. I noticed that regardless of how I slept or what I ate they came everyday for about a month between 10-12 like clockwork. After awhile I started preempting them with the above treatments. This worked really well and I haven’t had one for a month or so.
May I suggest you add that they usually occur at the same time of day. Mine were always around 3am and if you talk to other sufferers you'll find similar patterns.
just listening to this is making me feel bad.. and I think I've never experienced (hopefully) cluster headaches but do have some familiarity with migraines that come mysteriously. I cannot even imagine and wishing everyone who deals with these strength and hope
I’ve had clusters since I was 13 years old. I’m 32 years old as of this post. They’re yearly, seasonally. The pain is behind the left eye, back left of the head, the top row of my teeth. As of my last cluster headache remission, it was 12 weeks. The headaches last around 2-3 hours at their worst, 1.5 hours on average. I’ve had 6 of them which have been so intense where I’ve almost past out in pain, vomited etc. They’re quite horrid. The medicine which I find to work are the preventatives mentioned in this piece, such as the verapamil. Nimodipidine and Topiramate have been fantastic in reducing the frequency of attacks and the pain, but have horrible side effects. These were not mentioned in this video but have been very effective. Abortive meds are Zolmitriptan intranasal and oxygen. The standard. I’ve heard there’s alternative FDA approved meds but I haven’t tried those. I hope this helps.
It is called the " suicide headache " because so many people have literally killed themselves because the pain was too much and they were scared of experiencing another cluster headache.
Can you help me in my country use oxygen not possible because hospital so far away from home can nasal spray effects in cluster headache or injection because my pain is mostly upper on my right orbital not too pain in my head plz reply
Never had these in my entire life. Im 23, healthy dude that doesn’t drink or smoke, go to the gym and so cardio and weights. I got the flu a couple weeks ago but these headaches linger now. I wanted to blow my brains out when these happen
I have these headaches since I was 19. Now I am 29 still have these after cycle of 8 months to 1 year and lasts for around 1 month. When I have attacks I try following which really helps. It doesn't stop pain but allows to fight the pain. 1. Ice : I found this most helping. Gradually rub Ice in forehead, back of nec k and other places where it hurts the most 2. Long breathing and walking: when I have attacks it makes me restless but keeping head cool and walk in room with long breaths affect. 3. Dart tablets: they don't stop the pain but if you have one when you recieve the message in brain that it's about to happen, they really makes you strong enough to fight. 4. Last but not least, endure the pain. Its very difficult but keeping patience really helps. Just try to meditate and think that it would be over soon. Usually the severe pain last for 1 hr in my case so I do above and tolerate pain for 1 hour.
I’ve had clusters for about 8 years now. Everytime a cycle starts for me it’s chronic everyday 2-8 times a day until I bust it myself. 3 cycles I’ve busted with mushrooms. And one with the help of a neurologist. Sadly my clusters are back as a week and a half ago. I been trying really hard to do number 4. And just sit with the pain but sometimes it’s soo incredibly hard. I loose my patience and start hitting things. Sometimes I’ll get sooo hot from the pain I’ll start profusely sweating and vomiting. I don’t with this pain on any human ever. I’m hoping I bust this cycle soon.
Today, the mushroom compound is being used in clinical trials for end-of-life anxiety, treatment-resistant depression, cluster headache, addiction, eating disorders and other conditions with unprecedented success, and psilocybin-assisted therapy has been given FDA “breakthrough therapy” status as a treatment for depression.
At the age of seventeen I fell backwards onto a fire, which left a second-degree burn about the size of an outstretched hand (about eight inches in diameter) on the back of my leg; not a life-threatening injury, but certainly large enough to be called serious. Most of us will have had minor burns at some time in our lives, so it doesn't take a great deal of imagination to realise - or at least appreciate - what it felt like. After that experience I thought I knew what real pain was. On June 7th, 1987 I had my first cluster attack, and found out that I didn't. A cluster attack is the nearest thing to hell on earth.
Can you try explaining how it feels to someone who's never experienced it? This popped up in my feed and I decided to click on it; the comments are actually depressing, hope you're getting better!
@@shototodoroki3543 It's difficult to be upbeat about something like cluster attacks, my friend! But to answer your question, imagine a malevolent creature inside your head has thrust a sharp implement - a knife, a screwdriver or something like that - into the back of your eye, and keeps twisting and turning it, trying to drive it in deeper. That's what it's like for anything from a few minutes to three hours or more. Even in a mild attack it's unpleasant; in moderate to severe ones it is quite intolerable.
A serious attack may also be accompanied by allodynia, in which the body reacts to normally innocuous stimulae in a manner quite out of proportion to the input; in other words, the slightest touch to the affected area results in a strong burning pain that further compounds the discomfort. Add this to a runny nose, one eye streaming continuously and uncontrollably, neck pain and other symptoms (not all of which are experienced by individual sufferers), and I think you get the picture. I've been in remission for five glorious years now, but erythroprosopalgia (to give it its proper medical name) is a lifelong condition, and the chances are it will be back sooner or later. But thank you for your kind words, and if you've never had one, then let's hope you never do.
I’ve had episodic cluster headaches for 27 years. They always occur at the same time each day during a cycle. I am awoken at 4:00 a.m. with the pain. They usually occur more frequently throughout the day as the cycle progresses. Why is no one talking about the precision in time for the attack to occur? I have also noticed that when periods of remission end for me it is commonly after the time change (fall back or spring forward).
I have always gotten mine in the spring and fall, I have seasonal allergies and wondered if that might play a part in triggering them. When a cycle starts for me, I usually get one a couple hours after I wake up. As the cycle progresses I’ll get more throughout the day and night. It’s weird how it starts off slow, builds up in frequency and intensity and then disappears
@@eddieandrews4808 in my case Starts around noon and it goes away after 2am, if I take ibuprofen right away it might work, once the pain started nothing works.
I've read CH are triggered by the timing part of your brain, hence seasonal and usually time of day too. Makes sense to me. Always this time of year and starts same time of day.
I suffered this during 3 months of summer every day for a few years between 2010 to 2015. Every morning 1 hour used to be hell. Had consulted neurologists, brain MRI and what not. Then it stopped suddenly and life was great again! Since last week it has reappeared with changed time. During the night somewhere between around 1 AM to 4:00 AM - wake up with terrible pain. It takes around 20-45 minutes to subside. Let's see how many days it goes on. am hopeful :)
I can understand you're feeling😪 For me a hot bat and the oxygen works realy good. After that i role joint🙄 so my body can relax after the fighting against the pain. I think for me, hot water is what disquises the pain a lil bit. Because yohre body wil also feel the hot water. And because youre body wil switch between the pain and the hot tub, the oxygen wil work faster. Hoply a good tip against the pain. But every person is diffrant. Keep strong💪
I am 25. The last 10 years of constant Migraine/Cluster head aches have ruined almost every single day. Have you found anything that helps you? I am pursuing high concentrated oxygen. I am hoping this will help.

If this can help anyone, then great! I have suffered with "hortons headache syndrome - cluster headaches etc." for 15 years plus...my personal combination for relief (sometimes stopping it completely if you can catch it early enough!) is...open the windows and doors to oxygenate the room and get some airflow going on if possible, place an ice pack to the affected side of the head to constrict the vessels / dull the nerves, take a few blasts on a quality sinus relief up the affected nostril, taken with 3 Sumatriptan 50mg, plus 2 500mg co-codamol...you will still experience "dull" pain, but reduced pain, only provided you catch it early doors. But as said, early enough, and you can stop it fully manifesting - I also turn the lights out...however, I'm not to sure that this accomplishes anything other than calming me down. Everyone is going to describe the pain differently due to repertoire of language / ability to express themselves eloquently and accurately etc. so you cant rely on these forms of description. Simply...if you know the pain, and you legitimately suffer from this, then your number one priority should be helping yourselves and others through experienced, tried and tested methods of relief. It is the worst pain that you could possibly endure (within your head) and without a shadow of doubt, the worst kind of headache to exist...its not called suicide headache for effect. There are other methods out there for sure, do some research, but my personal experience is during seasons of activity - nothing "really" works (I have tried everything - side affects and all)...the above is just my method for "dulling" the pain - but as said, every so often, I'm lucky enough to catch it cold. Good luck!
Started taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily and haven’t had a cluster headache in 2 years. Before this I would get a cluster headache around once a year. It’s worth a try!
What's the brand name for the vitamins you take, maybe I can also buy some from a Pharmacy .. I've been having cluster headaches for 4 years and nothing seems to be really working.
@@Robert-bn2gq so far I’ve taken Nature’s Bounty and Up & Up(from Target) and they both work. Hard to find a 10,000iu pill so I just buy the 5000iu pills and take two of them each day. I truly hope it helps!
I've heard stories of people committing suicide over cluster headaches. This is one ailment that I'm glad I've never had to experience and I truly feel sorry for anyone who does go through this.
Hi Tom, no smoking women do get this condition, it is very important to include this population. There has been significant gender bias in diagnosing this condition for women. The result being many suffer in silence. You did not mention the chronic state this condition can lead to.
The video never said that non smoking females do not get the condition, he just said its more typical in male smokers, this is likely derived from a population result. Although it is really unfortunate to hear women suffering from it without receiving proper help.
+M E Im currently having a "Cluster period" and the intensity of the pain, this time is beyond anything Ive ever experienced. They called an ambulance the other day when I thought I was gonna die? I heard that a dentist could help to get rid of these symptoms or at least lower it by 50%? Its something about pressure in the jaws during the night? Im having a patch over my right eye because the attacks come as soon as I see light, with my right eye. Im almost contemplating suicide out of fear of the next attack?
@@drjerry5389 I had one like that Thursday. I still cannot get completely on top of it. People think it's just a headache. But if your entire life is just about waiting to "survive" the next painful attack, what kind of joy do you really have in this world?
Besides CH, I suffer from chronic migraine, chronic ebsion headache and trigeminal neuralgia is creeping into my life. Permanent high to us of migh muscles as well... I managed to get some pain free hours after 8 years or so. But pain is a constant in my life. Even while dreaming.
So I have had this since about 7....i have been calling them eyeball headaches. Complete darkness, no noise and sleep is what I use for treatment. It takes about a day and a half (i tear up in my sleep the entire time). The best present for myself was blackout curtains.
IF YOU HAVE CLUSTER HEADACHES, ASK YOUR DR. ABOUT OXYGEN TREATMENT: Inhaled oxygen therapy has been used to treat cluster headaches for more than 50 years. Cluster headaches require fast-acting treatment, and 100% oxygen that is inhaled, delivered through a face mask, can resolve an attack in minutes. There are no side effects from using oxygen therapy. The treatment is quick, effective, and safe when used to address the pain of cluster headaches (but has not been proven effective in treating traditional migraine). If your doctor doesn't know about O2 therapy, find a doctor who does. My husband was prescribed O2 therapy by a neurologist and it literally saved his life!
I’ve been having my clusters for over 2 weeks now! More sleeps 7-8 hrs a day has helped heaps! The pain is absolutely intolerable, watery eyes and absolutely piercing headache down the back of my eyes! Going to see my doctors in a week time
@Jeevan Stone thanks man! Yeah it’s an absolute bugger! I have to take off time from work everyday for 2-3 weeks because of it! Oxygen helps heaps my last attack was 2 months ago only for 2 weeks but other than that life has been normal again
I really envy those people who never experienced headaches specially when I remember those 2 times where my migraine and cluster is acting up at the same time. Literally holding a fork in my hands and ready to gauge my left eye 😵 won’t wish this pain into anyone
Also like to add that I usually know when an attack is imminent. I can't speak for others but I get a pain at the top of of nose, my nose starts to run and my eye starts to hurt. Usually about 1 - 2 minutes before the attack takes hold.
Yeah, me too...I’ll be feeling fine and then it’s like a little switch going off behind my eye. Like you said, maybe a couple minutes later it has set in. It’s just enough time to stop what I’m doing and find a good spot to writhe in pain for the next hour or so.
This happens to me too. I'll be totally fine then feel the tiniest sense of pain in a line from my temple to the middle of my forehead. Within a couple minutes, it's full blown. I've noticed that if I take 400mg of motrin at that exact moment I feel the shadow, my headaches only last about half an hour and aren't as severe. If I wait even five minutes to take the motrin, it doesn't help nearly as much.
this actually terrifies me that i could experience this again, im going to have to look into prevention cause they arent kidding when they say it makes you just want to die, the pain is unbearable
I’ve had them since I was kid and will never forget the first one I had felt like I wanted to cut my own eye out just to stop the pain. Ever since then I only get them every couple months for a day or 2, or by triggers like explained in this video. Stress and not eating for some reason is a perfect trigger for some reason. Recently I had a graduation, I was so nervous I didn’t eat before, and was stressed through it all, that was the perfect storm had to leave right after was so pissed. From reading the comments hopefully Dosnt get worse, as of know i just violently puke for the whole night like there’s a alien in my stomach and my bodies convinced it’s trying to get it out. Wake up the next day feeling like death
I’m not a med student, nor am I in the medical industry. I suffer from episodic cluster headaches. I cannot stress enough how torturous and debilitating this pain is. Had I not had family members that loved me, I would’ve ended my life. I don’t know what to do. I am 2 weeks into a cycle. Oxygen does nothing for me and, I can only take a limited amount of injected sumatriptan per day. I fear that I am bordering on serotonin syndrome. Every cell in my body tells me to grab my shotgun and blow off the top of my head. But I try and fight through it. Truth be told, I don’t know if I have any more fight left in me. This seems more like a curse… like a demon is hiding in the left hemisphere of my brain. I don’t know why am I writing this. Maybe because I’m hiding in a dark room and won’t let anyone see me like this… nor do I care to tell loved ones just how bad it is. It makes them feel helpless… worried that I might do the thing they fear. They know that there’s nothing they can do. So, I lie. It’s called a “suicide headache” for exactly that.
I have literally thought the same thing and if whether it's actually some evil entity or energy doing this to you ... but I thought I was losing my mind
My cluster headaches started in august 2019 right after a traumatic sudden change in my personal life. The worst the pain has been has made me make such screams, groans, moans and cries that my neighbours actually called the police once. They called an ambulance, and they gave me o2 mask. I’m getting a o2 tank set up in my bedroom soon. Until then I take verapamil everyday (which makes the headaches less frequent and less painful) I take sumatriptan injections for the bad headaches that still happen. And I take diazepam to keep me calm during a headache. Since any pain free time I have feels like a countdown to the next headache, I’m either in pain or terrified that I’m about to be. The diazepam helps with that too. But nothing works as well as an ice pack on the affected area of the head.
Very informative video and explanation of CH. I have CH since age 15 but always thought it was migraine. Mine would be come during the cold season and when I have start to stress. I have no idea of CH, when I have these attacks I literally just want to slam my head against a concrete wall or stick a pencil in my eyes. Up until 2019, that’s when I started to think that it’s not normal to have these headaches so I went for a check up and was diagnosed with CH. from then on was doing oxygen and just taking Tylenol. Now, when I feel a cluster is coming, I take two Tylenol and go straight to bed or take a hot bath and relax my mind because stress and cold usually triggers my clusters.

I'm 19 and I just experienced this cluster headache two times since last week. I woke up in the middle of the night because my head is spinning like hell and I can't get back to sleep. For me, it's like 5/10 pain, but I read in the comments that some of them experienced intolerable pain. Idk if this will help the same way as mine but I just put a hot compress on that side of my face and then forced myself to sleep. I woke up with no pain and keep going in my life. Hoping y'all get better.

I was prescribed ZOMIG 5mg nasal spray and it worked immediately every time! As soon as I felt one coming on I would take one spray and it would be gone within seconds. I couldn’t believe a nasal spray worked!
The downside to this is that you can get another type of headache with a decrease in effectiveness of triptans. Medication induced headache is no joke either. I'm suffering from CH as well
The problem I had with zomig is the insurance companies dont want to pay for it. Its pricey. Also the pharmacy couldn't get enough too so availability was a problem. so if I was allowed ten they might have five. It wasn't a preventative either of course nothing is really . I tried alot of stuff, seen alot of doctors, dealing with these chronically for 11 yrs no remission but every one is different what works for some may not work for others. Just have to find it in your own search for relief.
Mine are usually 1 a day, every day for two weeks out of a year. Triggered by exercise and sinus irritating allergies. As soon as I feel the first twinge, taking Excedrin Migraine may help.
I would literally do anything literally anything to only deal with these for only 2 weeks a year 😭😭 my longest streak of having one everyday was 11 months. Max in one day was 8. IT’s destroyed my life. They just started up again after having my longest break 6 months.

Alcohol slows the oxygen to the brain that's why you get drunk. Cant remember things. But it also releases the serotonin in the hypothalamus. Nick name "happy hour" but Serotonin is the feel good hormone if you have to high of a concentration already like myself then yes any alcohol including beer after mowing the lawn. is going to make the severity of the headache last longer and be a trigger. To a cluster headache.
My mom has clusters, she was diagnosed at 16. What's sad is USA doesn't have many resources besides medication which doesn't always stop them. I love learning & supporting her further. Weed is one of her biggest triggers.
Strange. I don't think i have CH but maybe a migraine or something and sometimes weed triggers it for me too real bad. Like after 30-60 mins after consuming i get a debilitating headache always on the left side of my face that sometimes i gotta go to bed for an hour until it subsides. Then after it's all over i normally feel tired
Ive had them for 4-5 years now, it started when i was 11 or 12 and it wasnt that bad at first, but after i reached 15 they became really painful, i usually get them for a week or two, it subsides for a few days or a week and comes back again. I usually get this along with some temporary vision impairment where part of my vision is greyed along the periphery. It gets worse during exam season but ive been on a detox from coffee and chocolate which are common triggers for a year now and the frequency has come down, although the pain is still really bad and regular pain killers dont work well, after a while you get used to it. All the best in dealing with it!
I’ve been dealing with cluster headaches since I was 18 and I’m now 34. I’ve been in remission for the past two years so I know that I’m due anytime now which scares the living hell out of me. When my headaches come, I’m not able to do anything usually for that day and the days to come and after my headache goes away for that period of time I’m so physically exhausted that all I wanna do is sleep. My symptoms include feeling the worst pain I’ve ever felt behind my eye, it’s always my right eye and becomes droopy along with that side of my face, my nose is runny I’m completely sweaty, and the pain is so intense that it makes me nauseous, and I gag and sometimes puke because of the pain I’m going through if that makes sense.
Same here, not only are these extremely painful, but they also affect my heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and usually leaves me feeling weak, sick, and light headed for the rest of the day, even after the headache is gone
2 microdoses of LSD with a week between doses sent mine into remission. The first dose sent them into remission, the second got rid of the "shadow headaches"
It's been over a decade since I was told that I suffered from this. The attacks have come and gone over the years. Right now, I'm in the middle of an episode that so far is very mild. This is very much in contrast to earlier episodes. I'm happy.
Hi Just wanted to suggest to you praying to God and ask for help . He will give you relief and heal you and protect you from all this.Just go to Him and ask for help God loves you. Just ask forgiveness of sins and have faith and know He'll help you HE loves you please go to Him He'll help
Im suffering since covid , my mental health has gone worsen. Tried many medicine nothing worked. But don’t give up , may be it will not go away. You must accept it to live. You cant suicide. So take it as it is. Clusters headaches can destroy life for sure if you are not strong enough.
I have them every 2-years for 2-4 weeks at a time.. like clockwork!!! So strange but they are what they are! Only treatment effective for me is Imigran Nasal Sprays (Sumatriptan).. horrific
How mg sumatriptan bro you use and ina day maximum use one nasal spray two nasal or three nasal spray it stop the cluster attack because I have cluster please help me bro where are you from ineed help
I had them when I was 18. Got relief in 1989 at age 26 from a Dr. that used radio frequency soundwaves ( I don't know what that means either) during surgery to kill my trigeminal nerve. The 5th cranial nerve. The side effects are insignificant to someone that has gone through the torture of cluster headache.
I have a strange headache, the pain increases when I go down to pick up a need from the ground, or when I pray and prostrate my temperature rises a little and also this thing repeats every month, and I stay with me for a week, and painkillers have never worked for me.😞
Hi everyone, I started getting them when I was around 17 and final school year. I almost failed matric because of it. Thats about 31 years ago. These headaches ruined my life. I could not perform in my studies, gave up on important things I started due to a lack of drive because of these things. I hate my job and should have done sonething else, but just never pushed through other qualifications due to this problem. Back then when I was young, if you had a headache you were given an asprin...I ate them like sweets, didnt help. I feel sorry for every person who suffers with it. I get them so bad it makes me vomit sometimes, and it leaves me completely exhausted after the attack. I fall into a deep sleep after to sometimes wake with another.😪
Today, the mushroom compound is being used in clinical trials for end-of-life anxiety, treatment-resistant depression, cluster headache, addiction, eating disorders and other conditions with unprecedented success, and psilocybin-assisted therapy has been given FDA “breakthrough therapy” status as a treatment for depression.
Let it be known that there are many females suffering from cluster headaches. It would be nice if you redo your video, as I was told by two male neurologists in 2 different countries that I had migraines. I was given oral rizatriptan and sumatriptan which of course didn’t work little did I know. After 25 years I see a female neurologist and got the diagnosis intractable episodic cluster headaches
SAME. I think they believe men are most affected only because men are the most treated- and women are wayyyyy too often told we have something else. I believe women cope with the pain better making doctors think it isnt as bad. I hate this old bullshit- the bias only makes more women go undiagnosed.
I'm researching things to find out what I experienced a couple of weeks ago...unsure if it was a migraine or cluster though. I feel like the area of effect fits a migraine's description more, but clusters definitely sounds like how severe the pain was. My eyes did feel like they were being stabbed with a flaming pickaxe. But my ears were also ringing, my jawbone felt like it was being beaten, and even my neck felt tender at times. I could barely eat, sleep, or talk. I couldn't stay still for longer than 2 minutes. I was constantly crying and grabbing my face. This went on for about a week. Pain meds helped a little. They'd make the pain drop to a 6, but then it'd go past 10 again after a few hours. And I have a fairly high pain tolerance. The only other unbearable pain I've experienced was an infected wisdom tooth....whatever this headache was, it felt similar to that, but worse.
I’m episodic, since my 20’s. My cycles will last 2-3 months, get hit every second day during the cycle. All imma say is psilocybin saved me, microdose, has saved me so many sleepless nights, right before bed.
My heart goes out to any and all who have wrestled with this demon. After 30+ years of this inhumane suffering I ate a simple mushroom and didn't have an attack for the next three years. I got another series of these "attacks" after three years and ate another one and I am now on my fourth year cluster free. I believe it's only because of the mushroom. If you can't find one a bag of frozen peas and O2 at 15 lpm can help Good luck and God bless 🙏
@@unskilled822 yes. I've only had one cycle in the last 7 years when I use to get one every year and sometimes 2 both lasting 6-10 weeks with 2-4 cluster attacks a day. I also stopped drinking alcohol so maybe that's helped too IDK but I'm sticking with it.
@@boboladolapo2636 no actually it wasn't. I'm not sure by weight but size was 2 of them about the diameter of a quarter, maybe a little bigger. Life seemed "animated" for a few hours , it was a good laugh but nothing scary at all. I found it best to go somewhere like a fair or even the store but being active helped me manage it better . I can only say what worked for me but I've always had at least one cluster every year for over 30 years so going 3-4 years without one feels like a miracle. I decided to try it when the Harvard study came out and others were saying how it worked for them. My tolerance to any medicine is low so dyor and figure out what works for you. Good Luck 🍀
I only have this when i wake up in the morning and it’s horrible, sometimes so strong that it cause nausea and feeling to throw up then i get up i have to move around, eat something, drink a coffee and slowly goes away.

Shadow boxing cures mine within 10 min every single time. It has to be a hard core, make yourself sweat and breathe hard shadow boxing. Mixed with jumping Jax and jumping squats to get your cardio going. I’m sure it’s just the fact that I get my blood pumping and oxygen flowing heavy that helps, so try it and come back to let me know if it works. I’ve suffered from clusters for 15 years and this is the only thing that has helped demolish the headache fast.

@@shototodoroki3543 - I can only tell you my story. Started approx. 13 years ago. They tend to be active for four to five months, with a four-to-six-week remission period before the next active period. During the active period, I get approx. 2 full night’s sleep in 10. The least sleep has been 55 minutes in 48 hours. Between 1.5/2 hours after falling asleep, I’m awoken by a dull ache on the right side of my face, usually in the temple, and eye area. I sit up, hoping it will ease off, but within two minutes, it goes from a one to ten in pain level. The pain is excruciating. Although the pain affects most of the right side of my face, and head, it is most intense in my eye area, temple, and the roof of my mouth [RS]. The right nostril feels blocked. The right eye will droop, and run; vision in that eye will become blurred. It feels like intense pressure in my head, and I put my head between my hands and squeeze hard. The pain is a burning sensation, that gets stronger, and stronger. I hit my head, and pull my hair, trying to turn the pain in to something else. I cry, because I can’t cope with the pain, and knowing this is a never-ending cycle. At the height of the attack, I think I’d be better off dead [I don’t think I would actually harm myself]. Forty minutes, to an hour later, I actually feel the pain lift. It leaves as suddenly as it comes. I lay back down, exhausted, with a dull ache, and press my head hard into the pillow, eventually falling asleep again. An hour to two hours later, it begins again. I get out of bed on the third attack, because I know sleep is pointless. I get an ice-pack out the freezer, and hold it to the RS of my face and head. It helps, and it doesn’t. It doesn’t take the pain away, but my mind is concentrated more on the freezing sensation. After this attack, I take a pain-killer to try and relieve the ‘bruised’ feeling, and dull headache. For the next six hours, I alternate between painkillers, and anti-inflammatory, every two hours, until the after-pain goes. If I try to sleep during the day, I’ll get another attack. Basically, I’m running on empty. On average I have two attacks during the afternoon, and evening, as well as three during the night. The daytime and evening attacks don’t last as long, and tend to be a level 8 pain. Perhaps this is because I apply the ice-pack at the first sign of an attack, or because I haven’t been lying down. I don’t know. I become obsessed with looking for possible triggers. Was it brushing my teeth? Was it spicy food? Was it sweet food? Was it a certain smell? I still have no clue as to what triggers them after thirteen years. I cry a lot. I’m exhausted, depressed, and my quality of life [and of those around me] is greatly affected. It’s debilitating, because I can’t function properly, and I’m always waiting for the next attack. It's a hidden disability, which makes it worse, as unless anyone sees the actual attack, no one can see what we go through every single day, and night.
@@Jomanka100 I'm a male and never had any type of headache in about a year so I can't relate to that but reading that made me cry.. I guess I take some things for granted
It's crazy to see this, I had cluster headaches for quite a while and doctors didn't know what it was. They said it was because I grinded my teeth and I had to do an MRI and a EEG. Than I went to a neurologist and he almost instantly told me It was cluster headache! Oxygen sadly did not work as it stopped the symptoms, but made them come back worse later. I also have much longer periods than described and way less resting time, headaches can be up to 2 months long every day starting at around 8:30 and taking 30m to 3hrs (which was horrible because It started at 15 and since I only found out about it this year (18now) I had no treatment to get me trough classes.) After that a pause of like 5 months. Either way it's cool to see I'm not alone and there are other people that understand. (Ps; if someone with cluster headaches reads this, Is light also really painful? Every time I search up dark silent rooms because light makes my headache so much worse)
The best way I could describe cluster headaches to my friends and family was telling them a story I read on a cluster headache support site. A married man that suffered with them for years, and one morning his wife woke up alone. She went around the house looking for him and found him face down on the floor of the garage dead. He had a power drill in his hand, it was pointed at his head with the drill bit in his brain. He wasn’t trying to kill himself he was simply desperate to relieve the pressure he felt building up inside.
As a person that suffers from cluster headaches. I use oxygen and fiorest as a abortive ( when it's happening) for a preventative I take gabapentin which dulls the nerve ending
I wish there was something I could say. Makes my 11-12 weeks seem tame. Please be strong. Get triptans if you can. I know we are all different but for what it's worth Zomig 5ml nasal spray works for me.

I know most of these are old comments. Mine usually start with severe pressure in my head, then it feels like a hot poker behind my right eye. After that, all hell breaks loose. It may sound weird but as soon as I start feeling the pressure I snort cayenne pepper powder. It relieves the pressure. It doesn't work all the time, but it helps.
I started getting them at 23, I’m now 27. They used to ruin my summers. My friends actually called the ambulance once and I started taking zolitriptan and verapamil. It helped so much and I still take verapamil. I get them randomly now not just in the summer. Does it last forever?
I am 17 and have been getting them since the eighth grade It’s excruciating I had a break in the headaches for about two years but now they are back and I am getting them daily and multiple times a day I think I’m finally going to get some sort of treatment for it because they have been seriously affecting my life at this point
@@lilypad.paints I’m so sorry. You aren’t alone. You may be chronic and your cycles are every so often. I hope they subside soon. I’m also chronic and they definitely do effect your life in horrible ways!
Sumatriptan works in 9 minutes, but can only have 2 shots per day. At my worst 8 attacks in 24 hours, or risk of heart attack if take more. I have risked 3 injections & am still alive. How do you split dose in injection? Oxygen high flow no relief for me.Clusterbusters method ended my last cycle successfully. Tempero mandibula joint pain is my pre cursor to an attack.
What works for me is to drink 12oz of cold Pepsi as fast as I can at the first sign of a cluster headache. This stops it within 5 to 15 minutes, 98 percent of the time. If I wait too long to drink the pepsi, it doesn't work as well, and headache winds up lasting 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
And for some reason, it has to be Pepsi. I haven't found anything else that works. Plus, since I know that the pepsi works, its risky to try other drinks, because if they wind up not working, then I have to suffer for 2 hours in horrible pain. So, I haven't really experimented with too many other drinks.
@@camstat4067 No, I haven't. But I haven't tried many alternate drinks, because if it doesn't work, then I am stuck having to ride out a full blown cluster headache. Up to 2 hours of unbearable pain. Luckily I haven't had one for over 5 months now. I usually go 1 1/2 to 2 years between cycles.
@@josephharrison9600 yep. It works for me. It has to be cold, out of the refrigerator though. I think it may have something to do with lowering my core temperature because your supposed to drink it as fast as you can. I think this somehow resets your hypothalamus. I saw this remedy on a cluster headache forum about 20 years ago. As long as I don't wait too long after feeling the first signs of a cluster headache starting, it works great. I haven't had a cycle for about a year and a half, so I'm probably due to go into one soon.
I have Cronic Cluster Migraines for over 20 years now. I dont get them, like people claim, at the change of a season or maybe 3 or more times a week. I have them 24/7 !!! I go to sleep with unbearable pain, try and sleep with it, wake up with it and it just intensifies throughout the day! Yes, things do make it even more worse than it already is...e.g. Light, sounds, smell, stress, heat, position of head on a pillow, anger, food/chilli, ear infection/ear ache, chewing. Yes suicide is much much better than having constant agonizing pain like this, that no one can understand or will ever experience 24/7, as i do. Ive seen 4 Neoralogists thus far and 1 Neorosurgeon here in South Africa, but none of them could help me. They just want your money, which is 4 times more than youd pay a normal GP (house doctor) per hour. The last Neoralogist, sent me to get facial fisio. And that didnt help either. It just cost me more money and caused me to have more horrific pain. Somewhere in my 20's (im 46 now), i had my wisdom teeth removed and the dentist obviously had to "unhook" my jaw to properly open my mouth, to remove the teeth. He didn't place the jaw back into the position it was before and my pain started flairing up from then on. I always have a blocked right ear, eventhough the doctors say that they cant see infection in the ear. My ear is constantly blocked and/or paining. Even if the slightest breeze gets into it, i have so much pain. In 2016 (14th Feb), i was in a motorcycle accident. I died at the scene of the accident. I was in a coma for 3 weeks and hospital for 4 months. I had to learn again, how to walk and talk. My life has been a nightmare since then. I have Severe Brain Damage, terrible long-term and short term memory and anger so badly, that i wouldnt just assualt you, i would kill you, while smiling. I am not allowed to work and suffer from "Agoraphobia" (a fear of people and places) and never leave my house. Unless i really have to. I have everything i need, delivered to my doorstep. I need help, cuz having this pain all the time, makes me think of terrible things i want to do. And since being in the motorcycle accident in 2016, i have no empathy or sympathy for anyone or anything, which makes matters so much more aweful. I drink so many different pain pills each day and the majority of the time, it just intensifies the pain. I get so frustrated and annoyed by it and that everyone keeps saying "i understand your pain". No, you damn well dont! A very very little percentage of people alive today, would be able to tolerate this severe pain...not to mention for a whole day, week, month or year...! I am a caucation female. Im 1.77m tall. I stopped smoking 13 Jul 2020. I drink maybe 3 or 4 times a month. Doubt that im allergic to anything. My pain is ALWAYS behing my right eye.
@liam Anderson No drugs until you're 18 trust me, I've been an addict since 9 years old and what I wouldn't give to have led a normal fucking life. Also what the fuck is wrong with you telling misinformed children to take a drug that they don't understand the risks and ramifications of and could leave them suicidal for the rest of their lives just because they had a sad thought for 1 second and kept thinking about for the reat of the trip
I started having mine in my early 20's and it affected my entire life. Sometimes in my late 20's, it got worse and ended up using sumaptritan injections. My last attacks came in 2008 and I had oxygens and sumaptritans. Then 2 wks ago I had the first attack in over 13 years. Iwas shattered as I thought I was over cluster headaches. As I typing this comment, I had just come off another attack. I have been using oxygen and sometimes they do work, sometimes they don't. So I an tell you for a fact that this cluster headaches may dissapear for so many years but still may come back. And by the way, I feel like ending it all as the pain is more intense at an older age.
I'm with you. I've had episodic clusters for 10 years. My periods of remission have gotten a little bit longer, but I'm currently the worst cycle I've ever had. I've been taking sumatriptan like it's candy and have went through so much oxygen. But, wow, 13 years is a long remission. Get through this, and maybe you will go another 13 years or longer without a new cycle. I get them for about 2-3 months every year, but my longest remission period has been 1 year, but hoping that increases with time. Hope you feel better
Please read! I found an optometrist in Germany who claims that cluster headache in many cases has to do with a minimal vertical heterophoria of your eyes. One of your eyes always has to adapt to this disbalance and as a result your muscles and sinews behind that eye are very stressed and cause that pain finally. I think that is a very reasonable explanation. So if you don`t believe it try to mask the painful eye at least for two days straight with an eyepatch. Some of you could probably experience pain relief. Unfortunately this is a very unpopular opinion. So maybe try the mask experiment and write in the comments how it worked for you. If you do bette with an eyepatch you could probably get help with the right prismeyeglasses. Best of luck🙂

Thanks

What do you think triggers yours
@@deegeorge5711 Time. I noticed that regardless of how I slept or what I ate they came everyday for about a month between 10-12 like clockwork. After awhile I started preempting them with the above treatments. This worked really well and I haven’t had one for a month or so.
May I suggest you add that they usually occur at the same time of day. Mine were always around 3am and if you talk to other sufferers you'll find similar patterns.
That is interesting to learn. Thanks
They often die hit at specific times but that is not set in stone, this point should not exclude a person being correctly diagnosed.

What side effects did you get from verapamil?
I take that regularly….
I have the pain in the same spots

Never had these in my entire life. Im 23, healthy dude that doesn’t drink or smoke, go to the gym and so cardio and weights. I got the flu a couple weeks ago but these headaches linger now. I wanted to blow my brains out when these happen
Terrifying. I'm sorry man.
I have these headaches since I was 19. Now I am 29 still have these after cycle of 8 months to 1 year and lasts for around 1 month. When I have attacks I try following which really helps. It doesn't stop pain but allows to fight the pain.
1. Ice : I found this most helping. Gradually rub Ice in forehead, back of nec k and other places where it hurts the most
Bro do you got any solutions. I think I am also suffering from cluster from last 2 years usually in winter season only
is it cluster?
Had mine for 10 years now, started at 17 and I’ll be turning 28 soon. Just want them to go away! Literally the only pain that brings me to tears

Exactly, I wouldn't wish these on my worst enemy, doesn't matter how much I hate someone, I'm just not that cruel

Good luck!

Hi Tom, no smoking women do get this condition, it is very important to include this population. There has been significant gender bias in diagnosing this condition for women. The result being many suffer in silence. You did not mention the chronic state this condition can lead to.
It's mostly men though
@@Србомбоница86 in my cluster group on Facebook it's a lot of women who are suffering
There are no side effects from using oxygen
therapy.

For real
50k units of vitamin d twice a week made things so much better for me.
For me, it starts at the back of my neck, then BOOM
I just wanna kill myself
This happens to me too. I'll be totally fine then feel the tiniest sense of pain in a line from my temple to the middle of my forehead. Within a couple minutes, it's full blown. I've noticed that if I take 400mg of motrin at that exact moment I feel the shadow, my headaches only last about half an hour and aren't as severe. If I wait even five minutes to take the motrin, it doesn't help nearly as much.

I've had these for 25 years now. Sumatriptan and verapamil help.
Tell them, it won't be easy but it's necessary for them to at least have some idea of the trauma - its too heavy to bear otherwise.
I have literally thought the same thing and if whether it's actually some evil entity or energy doing this to you ... but I thought I was losing my mind
Hang in there!
Until then I take verapamil everyday (which makes the headaches less frequent and less painful)
I take sumatriptan injections for the bad headaches that still happen.
And I take diazepam to keep me calm during a headache. Since any pain free time I have feels like a countdown to the next headache, I’m either in pain or terrified that I’m about to be.
The diazepam helps with that too.
But nothing works as well as an ice pack on the affected area of the head.
My situation right now, am terrified to go to bed.
Same here. Had 4 today I’m not going to bed until I pass out. Mine usually happen after I wake up
Very informative video and explanation of CH.

Omg marry me... We'll go throu it together i hv the exact too
Same here, not only are these extremely painful, but they also affect my heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and usually leaves me feeling weak, sick, and light headed for the rest of the day, even after the headache is gone
I have had CHs since I was 7.
How are the symptons?
2 microdoses of LSD with a week between doses sent mine into remission. The first dose sent them into remission, the second got rid of the "shadow headaches"
Likewise I wouldn't wish these on anyone. Find someone who grows mushrooms 🍄..its the only thing that works.
Me too. Fucking sucks

It's been over a decade since I was told that I suffered from this. The attacks have come and gone over the years. Right now, I'm in the middle of an episode that so far is very mild. This is very much in contrast to earlier episodes. I'm happy.
Anyhow, I spoke to soon. Turned out to be every bit as painful. Ended up going to neurologist. Sucks man.

Im suffering since covid , my mental health has gone worsen. Tried many medicine nothing worked. But don’t give up , may be it will not go away. You must accept it to live. You cant suicide. So take it as it is. Clusters headaches can destroy life for sure if you are not strong enough.
Nithing at all, even meds?
I have a strange headache, the pain increases when I go down to pick up a need from the ground, or when I pray and prostrate my temperature rises a little and also this thing repeats every month, and I stay with me for a week, and painkillers have never worked for me.😞
it must be sinusitis...

I'm scared af reading people saying they had these headaches for years and it's my first time having one at 14

@Jomanka100 can you try explaining how it feels to someone who never experienced it?

@@Afterimage1 interesting, my go to is always a double expresso for my cluster headaches.

Unbelievable! Pepsi?
