      @BookkeeperBill I recomend you look in to a dialectical method called "Street Epistemology". It was based on the socratic method and is highly effective in conversations about a wide range of topics. It was originally made to have nonconfrontational conversations about matters of faith and specifically god.

    Super interesting to listen to the guy talk, I also grew up on a cattle farm (which my father still has) and I always saw the cows with their mums wondering outside, I even went with my dad at 3 am in the morning to helped my dad deliver a calf that was stuck during birth. I saw all the beauty of these animals, so peaceful not harming anyone, with their families, giving birth to their children in pain but welcoming their babies once they saw them. For 27 years I never made the connection to their lives being taken from them in fear, pain, confusion, likely desperate for mercy once they realised they were going to die in a slaughterhouse or smelt the blood of others that had died where they were going to be killed. I never made the connection to what was lying on my plate, what I had picked up care free at the supermarket that morning thinking about 'Dinner', that my money had paid for someone so beautiful, that loved its family to die. To be killed because I had ordered their life to be stolen from them. Never again. Never ever again.

      @BookkeeperBill WHAT :D haha, Daddy issues? My Dad is a seriously wonderful guy with a great heart. Strange statement to gather from my comment, are you sure you don't have some strange daddy issues that you're projecting onto my comment :D haha! Oh my goodness, sorry, but this is a hilarious assumption to make out of the fact that my Dad is a farmer that breeds cows, and then sells them to a slaughterhouse for people to kill, for people (consumers) to pay for that flesh at a super market. In terms of the occupation of an animal farmer I do not agree with it, even if the person is a wonderful good person the occupation of breeding living animals to trade them to a slaughterhouse is an immoral occupation. So in terms of his choice of occupation you definitely have a point there strange Bookeeper bill, my issue is that I do believe his choice of occupation is immoral and that I'm opposed to it, and I am opposed to killing which will happen to any farmed livestock animal eventually. I think your comment is manipulative, or you are just completely unable to fathom that people open their eyes to how horrific the Meat and Dairy industry is, if you don't believe what I have written above really happens then please, please go inform your apparently smart self and watch any slaughterhouse footage ( I dare you, I DOUBLE dare you 'Dude' ) of any animal. Merriam-Webster - murder verb
      murdered; murdering\ ˈmər-d(ə-)riŋ \
      2 : to slaughter wantonly : SLAY
      Words are just words, imagine them as some kind of magnetic field that can expand or contract depending on circumstances. Extending "murder" to animals is not just acceptable, according to the very authority you are appealing to (dictionaries :D), it is also perfectly reasonable in the context of the vegan discourse. :)
      In fact, according to Merriam-Webster's second definition of the verb "to murder", which is "to slaughter wantonly", "murder" happens to be the most suited verb to use in this context!

      What about the animal product u r using right now for posting on this thread. Your cell phone or computer is made with stearic acid that comes from pork, beef and poultry. It is an emulsifier that is used in the production of rubber, plastic, diodes, capacitors and many other components to assemble your electronic device. So, is it okay for animals to die for your conveniences in life or is it all about eating animals?

      With the comment above you're just trying to somehow justify your habits, I've seen it so many times. Nobody can be 100% vegan in today's world, unfortunately, BUT we can do as much as we can to stop animal exploitation, like not eat their bodies for starters?

      @robertjones1178 5 років тому +2

      Julie Cooper...so...lets just take the electronics aspect of this example. Of course, there are 1000s upon 1000s of products that are made from animals..but let just stick with this example. Let me educate you on something about stearic acid and electronics. Stearic acid is used, not because it is just readily available form slaughterhouses, but because of it's chemical properties. The example Jeremy Snow gave above is absolutely true. This acid is an emulsifier to use in production of components to assemble your electronic device. The reason it is used is because it has very high and tight tolerances to heat, pressure, and friction. If it weren't for Stearic Acid...from animals....your electronic device would not work properly and be a pile of worthless garbage in a short period of time (it would overheat and stop functioning). There is not a plant substitute on this plant that can compete with the density and tolerance of Stearic Acid. Therefore, if it weren't for Stearic Acid...or....lets put it in simple terms for your understanding...dead animals...you wouldn't have a cellphone, computer, or tv to preach your activism. Now....I have a background in Chemical Engineering...so..if you want more precision in my response, it might go over your head from an education standpoint. So, you can either chose to believe me or not. However, the point is this. Vegans are using a non-vegan product, made by non-vegans, to preach their movement against non-vegans for being non-vegan. Now, if you want to talk about other products such as gas, oil, medicines, vaccines, cosmetics (which is my favorite as most state "cruelty free" but they are only referring to testing...not animal usage), ink, your automobile (which has one the largest concentration of animal usage), and too many others to just keep listing, then you let me know and we will discuss. I think the problem with Vegans is they only pick and chose what they want to debate when it comes to animal liberation and, then, with the other things I have mentioned, they want to use the excuse of the definition of veganism or some fallacy nonsense..OR..just not want to discuss it at all because they can not answer effectively and don't want to make hard choices in life to live without their conveniences. You say products can be made from plants. I want you to prove this theory of yours. If you can provide me how animal by-products can be replaced by plant products in a vast number of products, then please enlighten me. I want to know how you can make and produce certain life conveniences (such as your electronics), medicines, and too many others to list that can be made without animals for human benefit. You made the statement above that it can be done....so...I am asking you to prove it. Thank you.

      A vegan diet seeks to reduce suffering as much as possible.
      Feeding animals for meat takes at least 10 times more plants than it would take to just feed the plants to people, so even if there's some bone fertilizer involved, veganism would reduce the amount needed.
      There are also other fertilizers, bone isn't the only option. You're right in principle though that there are certain aspects of our life we don't yet have the ability to eliminate animal products entirely. But new inventions and breakthroughs are coming along constantly. This is an uphill battle, not some moral gold star purity cult. Every little bit helps.
      I'm sure many vegans are socialists but I don't know what relevance that has to animal suffering. Like is that really your argument here, the socialist boogeyman? Why not address what you disagree with with facts instead of feelings?

The skill of Eds debating is he allows his guest to sidetrack and then he takes them back to look at the artificial insemination bit again.. and he does this so calmly until his point is made.. total respect.

    Great talk ed, you're seriously the best in the game at this. One little thing though, when you ask something about the difference in morality of killing one animal and another, and they start talking about how morality is subjective and different for everyone, you should bring it back to it being about THEIR moral view. I find this happens a lot, they'll start bringing up different cultures and viewpoints when what I want to know is what THEIR beliefs are.

      TheFettuck if that’s what makes your inherent guilt sleep better at night mate. You can clearly hear and see an animals pain and relate to it. If you can’t because you think microorganisms are the same. You’re an idiot.

    • @AirScottyfpv
      @AirScottyfpv 5 років тому

      TheFettuck I can go round in circles on the all day. Microorganisms are not the same as a whole cow or a pig. These animals have been proven to have a conscience. Proven by many scientists, one being Stephen Hawkings but let me tell you this. You really don’t need science to tell you they can think and feel as we do. It’s obvious. The only reason it’s not for you is because you kill but society has told you “it’s ok”. Tough stuff brainwashing. But I use to down milk everyday and eat meat just like you. You have your whole life to change. Unfortunately farm animals usually don’t get past their infancy. Just have a little bit of remorse pal.

    I read through the comment section and just had this idea that if we are here because we respect and appreciate Ed's approach and his methods, perhaps a good way to show it would be through adapting the very same approach to his speakers in the comments. I can imagine being such a person who, thanks to a conversation like this, starts rethinking their stance on veganism and their own choices, is grateful that someone talked to him in such a polite and informed manner, but then sees the video on yt, reads through the comments, and feels deceived and disappointed with the community because it turns out that he has been respected during the interview only to be mocked, looked down on and scorned in the comments. My point is, if we are here because we are impressed with Ed's way of approaching conversations with non-vegans and we think this is an effective form of activism, then, to be consistent, maybe we should try to apply this approach in our comments.

    Great video Ed! I’ve been vegan for about 3 months now since watching your videos. I am so happy when I see passionate vegans speak about their compassion for animals but I really hope you all feel the same way when you see black people unnecessarily killed by the police and Mexicans tear gassed at US Borders. A lot of vegans are educated when it comes to the suffering of animals but don’t know a single thing about the suffering of our fellow man.

    • @Samuel-vq4ii
      @Samuel-vq4ii 5 років тому

      Dr Magic Ok, I will tell you, if you aren’t satisfied with the following explanation, watch Ed’s 30 days 30 excuses playlist. Firstly, veganism will help the planet, animal agriculture is the top cause of environmental destruction, it is terrible, it gives off more greenhouse gases than all of the transport sector combined, it is worse than fossil fuels and it uses more plants than a vegan lifestyle due to the high rate of plant consumption from the animals you eat/use. Secondly, it is a better choice for your health, physically and mentally, having a vegan lifestyle makes you feel better about yourself as you know you aren’t intentionally harming anyone, it has done this for me. It has also shown to mitigate depression and some other mental illnesses. It has also been shown to be better for your body health, your heart and your bones especially. If you want to talk about the health of other people, in Bangladesh where a lot of the leather tanneries, a lot of the people there die prematurely due to the bad chemicals used. Another reason it helps the world is violence prevention, as people say, if you value the life of a fish, who is usually deemed as inferior (even though they are not), you won’t hurt a human. Ethically, it is also better for the animals, the genetically modified ones whose lives are probably painful will probably die off after living a happy life on a sanctuary. The natural versions of these animals will flourish and we will have a reasonable population of them. Thank you for reading.

    • @drmagic3154
      @drmagic3154 5 років тому

      SluggaRaptor let’s say you had an animal sanctuary for a variety of animals, and let’s say you had some lions and tigers.. what will they eat ? Will they be fed meat from the other animals.
      What part of nature don’t you get?
      It’s the industry of meat farming not the eating of meat itself.
      Civilisation has been built on animal products and you want everything to go backwards
      You are anti human
      You are passive aggressive
      You are emotionally unstable
      You cannot have life without death.... you have to accept this...
      Vegans are nasty anti human anti life cult zealots
      You wouldn’t survive on a vegan diet in the wild
      Why do kids who are fed vegan diets get health problems? That has been reported many times...
      Vegan diet is a starvation diet, it’s not natural
      You’re not a fucking gorilla or a elephant
      YOU ARE MENTALLY ILL
