One thing I'd like to point out: this is not a 'sponsored video'. Nobody paid me to say anything. Singular Sound asked me to check out the Beat Buddy, and I said: 'sure!'. It's my own choice to use it in a video. I found this video to be a good occasion to try it out. If someone would pay me, I would mention it. Cheers!
Paul Davids wouldn't have cared if it was or want paid but thanks for the disclosure means you were just looking to check out some gear
Hope you make millions on endorsements. Your better than most professional musicians.
Paul is Brill!!!Mw
Thank you sir, liked this tutorial very much. Will be my next song on the acoustic to learn properly.
Paul Davids wat voor snaren gebruik je?
I’m a 71 year young grandmother who is scratching an itch or two and have recently started playing guitar again. Autumn Leaves is a song I’ve loved for a very long time and learning to play it to your amazing styling is absolutely wonderful. Thanks Paul for sharing your talents.
I once saw a lady go into my local music store, she must have been at least 80 years old, and she was signing up for drum lessons. I thought she must be the coolest little old lady in the world. Never to old to start a new hobby!
I know it’s late, but I hope you’re still practicing guitar. Don’t give up!
I hope your progress goes on well. Very inspiring, I am 34 and feel I am to old to learn. I will remember your example.
How is that itch going 1 year on @eileenmacarthur1951?
The itch has tamed. I’m thoroughly enjoying playing my Les Paul and Stratocaster and am very pleased with my progress. Lots of time to practice which of course is a bonus.
problem is: he is a terrible teacher. His goal always seems to be just to have you listen to him play and show off his talents, rather than actually teach you how to play the song(s). He is a fantastic player, but just a terrible teacher. Obviously his goal is clicks, not education. That is just youtube for you.

Out of my 2 years of music theory and 4 years of guitar I’ve never seen “easy” and “jazz” in the same sentence!
What are you studying for?
Jacky T. _someone_ has never done a music elective in school
@@sootera7298 I'm sorry, I assumed you were studying in the music industry. I don't really know much about college if that was what you were talking about.
Jacky T. Chill out dudeno problem but I’m in high school not college.
@@sootera7298 Ohh, sorry. We don't have music theory here in my high school, so I assumed it was college, must be a nice opportunity though!
Paul, for some reason I feel like you are the teacher that I never had. Weird part, I also feel like you are the best friend that always come with beautiful things to me. Thank you.
Shouldn’t watch this with my gf. Now she start asking stupid questions like when can you play like him
oh no, now you've fucked up. when she leaves you, you already know why lmao.
looool
you can tell her that it will be the day you ll leave her :)
the goddamn beard..
My gf used to play guitar so she knows it’s hard to play, but I still try
Sometimes I come to just listen to him play instead of trying to learn the song.

Really enjoyable lesson. It would be awesome if you made a series of videos demonstrating the songs (from any genre) that are essential for all guitarists to master. An explanation of what makes them important to learn would be super helpful as well.
eric ward still waiting on this
Yes Paul!!!
Yes please
YES!!!
I've been listening to covers of this tune for the past two weeks. You sir are a mind reader.
Superb lesson. Would greatly appreciate more Jazz standard lessons.
Head over to Sandra Sherman (Guitarversum) for easy jazz guitar song tutorials. She's great for beginners and intermediates and has some really nice chord melody arrangements.
I work in a call center and have some time in between calls. I always wondered what I could accomplish between the calls if I was able to focus enough. Well working from home allowed me to learn my first jazz standard, enhanced my ability to work melodies between chord progressions, and reminded me of the importance of using different chord voicings. All from one video. Thanks Paul for the great content 🙏
More jazz standards like this please! beautiful arrangement master!
porcupine tree fan... based
One of my favourite songs. Never forgot it once I heard it on Somethin' Else. So evocative, it reaches right into your soul and fills your whole being, yet you still aren't quite sure. Quintessential jazz.
Great tune to show people who think they don't like jazz. Very harmonious, melodic, and emotional.
My wife just walked by, watched some of the video and said, "That's exactly how a man and a guitar should be." Ok... No pressure or anything. Not sure I can do the accent. And I sold my acoustic. Uh, oh.
BTW- are you still liking the Collings?
Kevin Courcey he uses a Martin d-42 now for acoustic, very expensive but one of the best guitars ever
Time to get a new wife lol
Sinus Lebastian he still has the collins
he actually bought yet another collings (it's in one of the videos)
Your lessons are not only informative but also.......relaxing! Thanks Paul again.
Thank you Paul for your helpful videos once again. I’ve been a student of the instrument for 7 years now and I can’t express the joy I get from learning more every day. Your videos and lessons have made me a better musician and appreciate the beauty of music at every step of the way.
0:27 The Joy of Peeling Off Protective Plastic
I leave my plastic on everything until I can't stand it. Then I go nuts with a satisfying all-in-one 15 minute peel-fest.
Wait! Not THAT kind of peel-fest!
@@jayluck8047 We all know what kind of peel-fest ;D
Ah yes, the good ole' JOPOPP!
I'm a drummer who plays a bit of guitar, but I'm getting really inspired by your videos to just sit and practice - I think it's the fact that you make things look effortless that makes me feel it's worth trying: I don't think "that's too hard" because it doesn't sound hard - it just sounds really good. And "being good" is a more pleasing goal than "being able to do hard things". I think that's it anyway. Whatever it is, I never thought I'd look forward to working through scales and chord progressions, over and over, but I'm finding that's what I'm doing!
Absolutely brilliant. You make it look effortless but I'm aware of how many thousands of hours you put in to get where you are. Thanks so much Paul.
I love watching you play and your lessons are the best. Cheers.
You actually set up a camera to capture your cat walking out the door. That’s going the extra mile. 👍
I thought the same!

Being paid is fine with me, as long as you honestly endorse a product that is based on your experience and belief that your audience will benefit from your advice. That is, not based on, or compromised by, direct financial reward. That said, thanks so much for all the great lessons and insights you provide to help amateur players (like me) improve!
He wasn’t paid by anyone to push a product on his audience in this video
Just starting Paul’s course and I’m making it my long term goal to play this.
How’s it going by now?
Thank you so much for remembering us 'slightly above beginner level' guitarists with this lesson, Paul! Finally got around to learning this today. It's my first jazz standard and I'm kinda proud of myself :)
I agree chuffed to bits Iv managed to play this thanks Paul !
Its so nice when you come back and actually learn the song! That means progress
A great French classic composed by Joseph Kosma with Lyrics by the great poet Jacques Prévert under the name "les feuilles mortes" and the most iconic song from Yves Montand's repertoire. Great choice Paul!
Paul ne mentionne même pas le titre ou l'auteur ?!?
This video is what pushed me into purchasing the beginners course. At 60+ years old...I'd really like to be able to understand what I'm playing. Your videos are incredible (I was a teacher (not music) for 40 years). You're teaching technique is fantastic.
Hey Mr.Paul, Namasthe from India.... thanks a million for putting out the lessons man. I just wanted to say that you've been doing a great job and making the self taught players' life easy.
9:40 the kitty 🥺🤩
Thanks Paul. I've had this on my list since you introduced the arrangement. This lesson makes it much more approachable.
Been trying to make sense of mixing 7chords with little jazz runs for quiet some time. You Sir have finally gave me the jazzercise Iv been looking for, thank you!
I love your energy. You make guitar playing fun and your videos are great. Great production quality on all your videos.
like magic, your playing gladdens the heart and soul.
This. This is how I get the babes.
What babes..?
If you get a babe by playing some awesome jazz instead of a lousy popsong, you know you got someone special
@@loontil jazz babes ;) with berets
@@loontil you cannot get babes anymore by playing guitar sorry maybe you can get men but not women :)
SlClLIANO who’s gonna tell him..
Thank you very much for this! It is so great just to be able to have an entire stand-alone piece to play for people, as opposed to just aimlessly running through licks, fragments, and noodling. Most everyone loves a beautiful melody and this is one IMO. It's challenging, and has some chords I haven't tried before, so I am just spending some time each day working on it, until I get one section clean and smooth and then eventually moving to another. I think it's going to be well worth it.
The soundslice addition is awesome. Please keep doing them.
Just picked up a guitar for the first time and lucky enough I found this easy tutorial. Made me question every decision in my life.
I love you dude, you have the best quality videos. Your knowledge seems endless with the 6 string beauty. i'm picking your brain every time I watch your videos. You inspire me to be a better guitarist everyday.
Agree
I know this is probably not gonna be seen but. you really helped me understand basic jazz theory a lot better and i used to watch your videos a lot more when i only had a year or so of playing guitar and it really helped me forget about a lot of the problems i was having at the time.
Paul, thank you for this song. It’s always been a fav. Your version in Em caught my attention and I have been working on it with some success. I found another lesson in Em as well, and so I am finally finding a better understanding of how to better internalize this song thanks to both of you.
Excellent lesson. Most valuable to me was the mechanics of combining melody and chords. Just what I was looking for and arrived at just the right time in.my jazz guitar journey. I'm reminded of the old aphorism: "when the student is ready, the teacher arrives." Only thing that could make it better would be to convert the chart to a downloadable PDF. Thank you . Paul. You are a superb teacher and even better musician.
Love hearing you play this song! You play the song with ease and you really feel the rythm in your body as well. Thanks for sharing!
Between the song, your voice and your demeanour, this video is so relaxing.
Thank you so much Mr. Davids... especially for SoundSlice lesson.... extremely facilitates learning...
I’m ready for my jazz journey and it starts here.
Thanks Paul, for your good work and patience to teach. a greeting from Spain.
This man is the definition of 'man of culture'.
i'm a beginner at guitar and i watch these videos just to hear you playing
how about now
Dude! It's a pleasure watching and learning from you. Keep doing what you're doing. All the very best. Mike.
With almost 1.5 M subscribers you don’t really need me me but you got me! I Just stumbled onto your channel today. I have heard countless versions of this classic but this version is the most beautiful by far! 😊🎶
Hands down, the best UA-cam guitar tutor, IMHO. Great work Paul, love the passion
I wish i could have more time to study and practice to become like you. You are a hell of a guitar player and great content Maker, congrats
Nice sounding Collings. Bill was an old friend, RIP.
Brilliant. More acoustic jazz stuff like this for us old rockers and folkers be great. Soundslice is awesome too.
Cheers. Learn something new everyday. :)
This song is my new goalpost! I will learn to play it, slowly, but surely!
FINALLY!! I've been waiting to learn this beautiful song. Thank you Paul!!!!
I am really enjoying playing this piece and like the added drops of humour from time to time. I have struggled to keep up with the music theory tutorials but will keep going back to them as time allows. I look forward to watching and hearing each new tutorial. Brilliant teaching methods and much appreciated. I am 69 and already have a beard, though not very majestic!
@Paul ...You are gem of all the guitar teacher .I came accross...KEEP INSPIRING...!!
Very nice lesson, not only for the tab and musical advise, also for this kind of "relaxed ambient" feeling you manage to achieve.
Amazing choice of tune and top-notch rendition, as always. That Soundslice sync is just mindblowing, if it's not too much of a pain to set up for you, you should really stick to it. We dig it! Keep up the good work, man, you're inspiring to thrive in music...
I learned the sky guitar tutorial, so coming to this lesson after having learned the much harder version is sort of refreshing. Thank you for showing me more ways to play one of my favorite songs!
I just found your vids- and loving them. I've been playing 20 years now, just as an expensive hobby, and I still can't restring my damn guitars to save my life. I just pay the $3.99 extra to have the guy do it at the local music shop.
This will be my intro to jazz guitar and gotta say im very glad you posted this.
GOD BLESS YOU
Thank you for the great lesson Paul. You manage the fine line between making it too basic for players to learn and too fast that it's not instructional. Really well done. Hope you do more of these type of things soon.
Paul....you’re an amazing teacher!! Thank you!! 😁

I love this song... Ur voice and calmness just suits you with jazz :)
I've been watching your videos for the last few days, I don't know why I didn't give you a suggestion before, you're great and I have the feeling that you can play everything, you explain very well how to play some things, all in all a great guitarist and of course a great man when you selflessly share your knowledge like this, Well done!!!!
Could I suggest putting chord shapes on the video, it'll be easier to follow :)
Yeah honestly tutorial isn't great for everyone without this.
the full tab / chords are on the soundslice page: www.soundslice.com/slices/66Dcc/
@@tubNZ He explains things so well that written material isn't necessary.
@@musket-hc1fc it's not great for everybody. While he does explain nicely, some players need a visual for learning chords they may not know. I especially needed the tabs and I'm sure a lot of others on here need them too.
I think it's for people that already know how to play the typical jazz chord shapes already. Here's some chord boxes for the basic jazz chords: justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/basic-jazz-chords-ja-001
I'm 106yr old man just learning how to play this! Thank you!
Pllleeeeaaasssee go into the theory of the song at some point!!! Love the more advanced theory
Two years late but maybe i can help somebody else, it's quite a simple song, it's just a 2 5 1 4 and then it goes to the relative minor and does another 2 5 1 4
thanks paul for the autumn leaves lesson,i have just started to learn jazz. this lesson is perfect, how you showed the chords which were very nice, and not to hard to learn, and how you showed the rhythm lead to. i like melody chords like the ones in this song.playing fast is not for me, just slow with a lot of chord melody.
Strumming pattern is the tricky part! If you can get that right, rest is easy.
Was expecting a bit more on that, but still its great! Thanks!
Even i just see the title of your video and i click "like" button instanly, without watching it first, this is what i'm waiting for, thankkkk youuu.....
The first time that my cat saw my guitar he opened the most big eyes I remember. He didn’t like the bass strings and each time I tried to play he went to sleep in another better place. I can’t be so bad, I thought... now he is more used to the sound, even electric.
Thank you for this - I’ve used this jazz standard in many bass exercises and will now work on the guitar version - great work as always!
Thanks for this man! I'm really excited trying to learn this one. Just a side note, it's just sad seeing a number of dudes here who are being overly demanding. Given that this tutorial is free, they still managed to demand harshly (at least for my standards) and not just request politely (again, for my standards).
More power for you Paul! :)
I like the way you set up the groove on this, Paul. It sounds great on an acoustic, too!
The Soundslice is cool! Thanks very much :-)
For my friends who just came from Paul's 7th chords lesson and are trying to see if they guessed the chords correctly,
The chords in the beginning are:
Eminor7, A7, Dmaj7, Gmaj7, C#min7flat5, F#7, Bminor [LOOP] x2
Try to figure out the rest from there ^__^ I'm also learning more about guitar and have been making music purely based off ear and memorizing patterns for years and it's so cool to finally be able to understand why certain chords make certain sounds. If you guessed it right, good job and keep studying :)
This sounds like an old soviet song from the 70s-80s. Love it!

Finally i will get the chance to learn this song. Thanks for the toturial!
Wow thanks! Amazing
Sir if you would have zoomed close up it would have been much appreciated as it is difficult to view your hand movements. Played very well also sounds amazing. Also chord chart should have been shown separately for people who don't know advanced chordings.
what a wonderful yet approachable version of this song!
Any possibility of an explanation behind the theory involved in this?
Is it in e Dorian?
@Pieter van Erven I would love that detailed explanation!
Thx god paul finally!!! U played this song like a million times in many of ur vids and i hv been expecting this to come out for so long!!!!
Sometimes I know the chords and I come just to see how he plays it so I can play it the same way, or sometimes I just create my own chord progression of 7ths
I love this friendly way of teaching, Splendid.
I loved this lesson and I would love to see a lesson covering the theory side of the song if you could find the time! Thanks for so much consistently great content Paul!

I am Andy, it is Sept. 26, 2018 and I just got around to learning your version of this 'autumn leaves'. Thank you, Paul Davids; I have been playing guitar since 1972, and still learning. I am a Gibson man, usually electric, but I now own a Mitchell small-body guitar and yesterday bought a 'Glarry' guitar, new with shipping for $43.99. I will let you know how that works out, they say very little set-up is needed. Some of your other videos have been quite helpful as well. I also have done the 'compose a song in an hour' many times, and most of them were keepers. Some were trash upon hearing them the next week; you could have your own 'style' show here in America, but you would need a consultant about your footwear. Why is it Europeans and other foreigners don't quite get it with footwear ? Form follows function, but it still has.....form. I look forward to your lessons ! -Andy !
Paul, Could you make a lesson on Ten Years After "I'd Like To Change The World", please?!
Thats the first song I learned to play ...the arpeggiated picking works great on a twelve string ( which is what I started on.) The chords are Em walk up to G...Am walk up to C then B7...Ill leave you to pick out the arpeggiation...
yes please
song that I love, that I love playing with my mistakes as a beginner, and I thank you for the service you are offering me
