- For more than 50 years, the Corvette has been an American icon, a car that boasts unparalleled performance and represents a unique lifestyle. But with the 'Vette's 6th generation, the much-ballyhooed C6, right around the corner, the onus is on the engineers at Team Corvette to deliver a machine that lives up to the legacy of the Corvette name - and meets the expectations of a horsepower hungry public. Follow Chief Corvette Engineer Dave Hill - just the third engineer to oversee production of the Corvette - as he tweaks and tunes his latest design in the months leading up to the vehicle's debut. While fans expect the same classic Corvette style, he knows the car needs significant changes to bring it up to date for a new generation of drivers. The challenge is to perfect the car in real world conditions - without letting anyone from the real world get a sneak peek before it's ready. So while Dave and his crew tear through hairpin turns on Germany's Autobahn speedway, they keep a watchful eye on the rearview mirror for signs of Jim Dunne, the infamous spy photographer who's yanked the shroud of secrecy off more than a few pre-release vehicles. Jim has made it his mission to capture the first shot of a C6 before anyone else. With the media and fans desperate for a glimpse of the new model, Jim is just waiting for Team Corvette to slip up in order to capture his biggest prize yet. It's a race against time between two men on opposite sides of the assembly line - united by their admiration of what many consider America's greatest automobile.

Pick up my C6 about 2 months ago and all I do now is watch C6 content on UA-cam.
Just bought a C6 Z06 on Friday and I can't stop staring at it in my garage and anytime I park it anywhere walking out to it is the best feeling
My C6 is in the garage too and everytime when I wake up in the middle of the night. I have to make sure that I look at my Corvette. It's beautiful and people congratulate me for that.
I got a great deal on my Ron Fellows 294/300 autographed C6Z. It’s such a fun car and I just took it to the drag strip for the first time for my birthday. The car is so planted and it just pulls and pulls. Love it!
A lot of people in the comments wrote that they just picked up a C6. Well here I am and I just picked up a 2011 C6 Grand Sport Convertible 6 speed manual transmission myself this month. 9-07-2021. I love it. My 1st Corvette. I have been wanting one since I was 6 years old! It was definitely worth the wait! 436hp. Tons of torque. Every time I get in it, the day is a special day. Can’t wait to take her out today. I pulled the fuse so the inner exhaust baffles are open all the time. Car sounds straight piped! The burbling and pops from the exhaust on overruns are just incredible. The sounds this car makes is better than sex. Way better. More fun as well. Guess you haven’t driven a Manual Transmission Corvette if you think that statement is crazy. I can get in the 20’s mpg that is on the HWY if you keep her in 6th gear and 85mph of less. Teens around town with ease. I never had even been in a convertible until this one. Push one button and watch the fun begin. What a great experience being in a Vette convertible on a nice day. It gets no better than that.
just a warmed over c5 , not really worried about panel gaps , want it 49:15 to handle , ride , no accordion feel when shifting , no 1 ton truck calipers on it from that parts bin, etc ,
Just got myself a C6 Z06 in perfect condition with under 6000 miles.
There are only 3 in my country and I can’t believe the presence this car has in person. Kids chase me down the road to get a better look and ask for a rev (which I always oblige). It’s an incredible, muscular but beautiful design.
I bought a 07 C6 july this year and this "cawr" is like crack to me. I never get tired of it. FRONT ENGINED CORVETTE' FOR THE WIN!
C1 is an icon of cars in general. In terms of just Corvettes, the C2 Split window and the C6 ZR1 are the greatest Corvettes ever made in my opinion. I do believe that, despite some of the dislike for its new design - that the mid engine models will have their own legacy. Imagine if the new ZR1 is a hybrid AWD?
The last of one of the Best Looking Corvettes ever built. I own a C2,C3,C5 and C6 all Coupes. Although the C7 has come and the New C8 this past year I have to admit after driving Corvettes for 50 years now in 2020 the Look of the C6 is still one of the best. I have no interest in owning a C7 or C8. GM lost me after the C6 I am sorry to say. The Wow Factor in my eyes is just not there anymore starting with the C7 and now C8 Generation today. I am happy with what I own. Nothing GM has today tops them as far as looks go.

Love the Corvette, but I’d say the Mustang could challenge it for longest in production without a break.

C6 is still my fave generation of Corvette...and kind of funny looking in hindsight of course about the BIG worry over the headlights not being the usual "pop up" style..such a non issue...the headlights look sweet..they are painted same color as the car..no worries ..looks perfect I've always thought..

2 new engines were offered in the C6, a 7.0 liter V8 was offered in the Z06, making 505 horsepower. Than a 6.2 liter V8 was introduced replacing the 6.0. It made 430 Horsepower
Love my 2012 Grand Sport I just picked up. My Favorite Gen. Not 100% on the C7 and the interiors are so much more cramped. Like the Tech, but like the feel of the C6.
SS Sandman C6 Grand Sport is the best looking Vette, IMO. Muscular yet elegant.

I got a low mile C6 nearly a year ago and I'm ecstatic every time i go anywhere. Walking out to it after work or leaving a store, it just doesn't get old to me, every line is perfect looking to me vs the c7. The way that the back end curves in at the top with round taillights just suits the car so well & higher trims are even better! (Not bragging just opinion enthused by this video) there are far too many cars that i think look and perform great
I have a 93. I feel the same way. The lines are so classic. Unfortunately they lost the classic look with the c7. The c8 is cool as far as mid engine, but the lines don't quite do it for me.

I hv a c3 love the body style, and recently bought a c5. Preffered it over the c6 dùe to its bigger rear. Love the black convertible look. Bought for $8000, with 165,000 miles manual, . Runs great

The intro kind of overdramatizes the c6 as a big change... I kind of feel like the the c6 is the smallest generation change in the history of corvettes 😅 Don't get me wrong, I love the c6 and I'm actually saving up for one right now. But it wasn't a "oh no this is such a big change it better still seem like a corvette" kind of generation. Now the c8 on the other hand, oh boy if they even knew 😂

Idk if you were into Corvettes when it came out but it was definitely the thing on everyone’s mind, at first I didn’t like it but grew on me as well My dads got a C5 and I’m buying a c6 tomorrow. But in 2004 that was as big of a deal as how different the C8 is to us now obviously in hindsight it’s not as big of a change but every generation has some mixed opinions

@@christopherrobinson4373 When the c6 came out I was prepping for kindergarten 😅 so I definitely didn't know how it was received firsthand. I wasn't in the car scene by the c7 release either, although I did notice when I started seeing them around and that's when I started to grow interest for corvettes and cars in general. You have a point though. I do remember hearing a lot of people upset about the c7 tail lights. With the Corvette, every change is looked at critically with respect to it's long legacy

Until scrolling through these comments I never knew the C7 got hate for the tail lights I think they’re sweet but that just goes to show it’s hard to keep track of each cars criticism over the years

A lot of the narration around Dave Hill didn’t apply to the C6; all of the Caddy concern was about the C5. By the time the C6 was being worked on, Hill was trusted to get it “right.”

The C6 wasn't all new; it was a revised C5 with most of the parts being interchangeable. Chevy tried to sell the C6 as "all new" by changing the part numbers, but the press and rest of us called them on it right away. Even the C7 is still mostly a C5 on steroids. If you photo shop the chassis color you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the three generations because the C5 is the Granddaddy with the C6 and C7 in tow. With that all said, every Corvette for me is a great one, with my favorites being the C5 & C7.
I love the headlights on the C6 so much i have a 2005 and a 2008 both 6 speeds both coupes one LEMANS BLUE one ATOMIC ORANGE i have had 2 C2 Corvettes 1 C3 Corvette AND my C 6 cars makes them look like caveman rides .

They hit it on the head with the C7 the biggest thing I didn't like about my C7 was the taillights after awhile they kind of grew on me
I remember being a Junior in HS and just hating the C7 thinking it's lights made it look too much like a Camaro. It grew on me too.
When I saw the C8 I thought "they really messed this one up". But they didn't. It took me some time but I've accepted the C8. I have a lot of respect for the Vette Engineers at Chevy.

He’s really not wrong, I own a c5. My brother has a c6. They ride very similar besides the 4 speed in my c5 that I hate. Other than that it’s pretty similar. The body lines are slightly different not too far off like the c6 and c7.
@@metaljew4456 never own or driven one lol. Dude my family ran a corvette specialty body shop for 40+ years. A simple Google search will show many parts especially suspension parts are a direct swap between a c5 and a c6. No parts swap between c4 and c5 and the only part to swap from a c6 to a c7 is a oil cap. The only parts to carry over from the c3 to c4 was the engine in 84. It's no coincidence that the first year for the c6 was the year pop up head lights were phased out in the us. The c6 was more of a refresh than a redesign. Maybe you should do some research before you look stupid.

the reason i and others say the C6 is a modded C5 or a C5.5 is b/c a huge amount of parts from the C6 will fit the C5 and the only real notable changes from the C5 to the C6 was the C6 doesnt have pop up head lights.

I own 4 Generations still at present C2,C3,C5 and C6 all Coupes. I don’t ever plan to buy a C7. The look still hasn’t grown on me and it is the year 2018 now.
