These turbo diesels are actually surprisingly quiet compared to the older normally aspirated cars. But nevertheless a beautiful sound that's easy on the ears. ;)
They kept winning because the Diesel engine is more fuel efficient than its petrol counterparts so they could make less pit stops, this is why before peugeot made their own TDi engine Audi were untouchable
thanks to the diesels extra torque even thought the petrol engine's hp is more the diesels are quicker of the line and out of turns also now people might know that a car doesn't need to scream to be fast so no need so v10s in f1 the v6 Ts are good enough

Partly because turbochargers muffle engine sound. The loudest engines are naturally aspirated ones
