buy lids from For Jars. After like 40 plus years of using Ball lids, they are starting to fail. I never had one not seal, and in the 2 years, I have had a lot of failures.
I got jars from Grocery Outlet. They have the periodically. Last year they had Ball regular mouth smooth for $12/12. I bought a lot. They used to carry the different color ones so I have lots of green, blue and purple jars. They were a little expensive but I love them.
😊👍yes, it really is! Someone mentioned Dollar General having a slightly cheaper price, but ours has been out of stock for so long with the basics, like ketchup. So definitely check there too!
You’ll have to go back and watch some of our other videos. That’s been our only time to by- January; however, no sales this past winter. Prices have only went up.
Nice to know about mainstays brand! I’ve used dollar tree lids that work well ($1.25 for10 last year) I like wide mouth better too, but I have both as well. I reuse store jars as well, spaghetti, pickle jars, whatever lids will fit, have reused the original lids as well. Used jars used to be so cheap but not anymore:(
amazing vid..great deals..i like the superb lids from ohio amish country, they are really good..her in canada ball jars are upto $24, its just crazy.. i check the thrift stores etc..thx marie from canada
You’re Amazing! Enjoy your videos. I just checked online at Walmart, the local store had very limited jars). Unfortunately, the “Mainstay” comes in regular mouth. However, online, I found “Ball” Quart wide mouth, set of 12, $16.44 a case. For me $16.44 is expensive but I am going to buy them anyway as I have not seen wide mouth in quart size for any less. Blessings 🙏
I was lucky in Calif don't think many can here got ball canning lids on sale for 75 cents a box at Wal-Mart!! Bought think was 40-50 boxes!! And grab more whenever see on sale!! Your shelves look beautiful!! God Bless and stay safe!! Janell
Sure! We kept ours this height because our ceilings are low, and we also didn’t add any additional shelving because we weighed my quart jars, and each filled are around 2.5 pounds. The max weight limit on these with wheels are 800 pounds, and we honestly are over limit so no more weight needs to be added to keep them stable.
I absolutely reuse my lids, especially the older heavier ones I set the used lids in a saucepan of water with a little bit of baking soda that apparently softens or fluffs up the sealing compound. I have had very few failures, which is usually my fault, like not putting band on correctly. I have loads of new supplies and I use them, but I like to challenge my self sufficiency while times are “good” so I won’t panic if supplies dry up.
Personally, I just can’t recommend this. I don’t want to recommend anything against guidelines that a viewer may see and become sick from if spoilage did happen.
Alabama!? I swore up and down y'all were from Texas or Arkansas after hearing your accent, y'all keep on raising hell and eating cornbread over yander😅 🍻 from South Carolina.
I've used main stay jars but the lids buckled. no problem I just use balll brand or Kerr lids. Also I have found jars at smart and final and winco has the best prices in my area (ca desert)
No, I sure haven’t. I can’t afford them in the quantity that I have canned to be honest. We have over 1k jars of food. That would be estimated at $1,400. If they were reusable forever and ever, it would be worth it, but I just never have bought them. I was a little hesitant because I heard 5 years use out of them, then I have seen 10. It would definitely be worth it if that do last that many uses though!
If you have an ace hardware their prices are really good. Blairs farm and fleet just had a nice sale . I spent 118, for about 110 jars. I got pints, quarts, half pint abd halgmf gallon
Hello! We purchase any Ball jars for 10 times or more of the US price in Japan. Crazy, isn’t it?When I can get the chance to go to the US,I will definitely go to Walmart asap.
Do they always make you pick them up at a different location? Also, can you give everyone an approximate price for February jars? I just looked them up for shyly over $11, but that doesn’t include bands or lids.
I purchased two sets and I had to return them the same day as EVERY single jar had a nick on it and no way was it going to seal. I was so disappointed. I have to wait and see if I try it again.
Oh no! I’m sorry! I just checked some of mine and no cracks. I wonder if you had some from a damaged shipment? At least you found out before you canned in them.
@@harmonhomestead7434 Probably, like you said a "damaged shipment". I'll try one more time in a while and see what happens. I have learned my lesson 😁to check the jars before I start canning. I'm happy yours are OK.
I always check out the Salvation Army, and other charity shops. Also garage sales, and the local on line buy nothing groups. Other people are always downsizing, it's amazing what you can find. Also this never works unless you plan ahead. 😊
Menards has a store brand that haven’t failed me yet. They are comparable in price with Mainstays but will the 11% rebate, they are less expensive. Another option for those near Menards.
Look up Ball’s recipe for canned tomatoes and okra. It’s a pressure canned recipe. It’s so delicious but takes a LARGE amount of tomatoes to use! Hope this helps! 😊
A friend of mine brought me a jar of canned black eyed peas, okra and ham. Boy was that good. You could sub anything with that okra. I grew okra one year, a few stalks gave me a bounty. I ended up freezing mine, but I wished I had made some jars like she brought me.
Mainstay - The Mainstay line has been part of Walmart’s offering for several years. However, whether Walmart will sell Mainstay canning jars and lids in 2022 is unclear. Prior, both jars and lids were made in the USA per product labeling-jars at an Anchor Hocking plant in Monaca, PA, and lids by Healthmark LLC Jarden Home-but cannot be verified for recent products (should there be any). Judging by 2020 consumer reviews, most consumers were satisfied with the lids but did note that the lids were thinner and some of the lids were defective right out of the box. The jars were listed as safe for home canning and freezing but did not specifically mention pressure canning. Mainstay BPA-free plastic lids that fit Mason jars are still available; these lids can be used for storage but not for canning.
If I could post a photo here I would… but I’ll type out what the box says instead. “1-Pint Canning Jar Set. Includes 12 glass jars, 12 lids, & 12 rings. BPA free. See bottom of tray for instructions”. Look these up on Walmart’s website if you have any questions. The regulations may have changed since it’s 2024. It’s just what I chose to buy on sale. 🤷🏻♀️
The shelves came with a thick plastic sheet liner when they were purchased. The liners are super thick and just lay on top of the wire shelves. Very nice! Especially if you want to take them out and clean them or wipe them down. The shelves are from Sam’s Club, but I’m not sure about what type they are. I believe industrial kitchen shelves?
Dollar General pints were 10 dollars. Golden Harvest. I keep Brands separate i.e. only Ball or only Golden Harvest in at same time, Embossed images facing in toward the center, haven't lost a jar yet. Bought flat yesterday
I’ve bought some, but I have no idea where they are packing these. Make sure you wash them good. They stink terribly. And get the boxes out of your house. They are obviously using some kind of chemical that Ball doesn’t use.
Oh friend, I always wash my jars! Every brand I’ve ever bought has a slightly greasy film on it and they smell. You need to wash your lids as well, any brand. I’ve always heard to wash them before use because of possible chemicals.

You need to go online and look at four jar lids. They work great and they’re cheap and you can buy them bulk.
Ok yes, several have told me that’s what I need to do
I appreciate the heads up and I just checked my wal mart has them for same Price - that’s a deal!
😊👍yes, it really is! Someone mentioned Dollar General having a slightly cheaper price, but ours has been out of stock for so long with the basics, like ketchup. So definitely check there too!
If you have a Rural King near you, they are on sale in my area in Ohio. Also, I use my rewards at Tractor Supply to buy lids.
Thanks 😊
I've been buying mine at goodwill and other Thrift stores
👍
Always check end of season for great clearance prices!! I loaded up on jars, both wide mouth and regular mouth, quarts and pint sizes
You’ll have to go back and watch some of our other videos. That’s been our only time to by- January; however, no sales this past winter. Prices have only went up.
I picked up quarts for under 10.00 and pints less than that at our Tractor Supply. I was sharing with others who may not be aware they go on clearance

You can purchase additional shelves for those shelf racks to maximize your storage capacity.

You’re welcome! Yes, everything came with the shelves when they were purchased from Sam’s Club. 😊👍
@@harmonhomestead7434 Great. Thank you.
If you put filled jars back into cardboard case only cut plastic on 3 sides. That way now you have a dust cover.
Good idea!
Have you ever used the tattler lids? I’ve been told they are reusable but as a newbie canner I’m not sure if I can trust that?

Have you looked around on marketplace? I see people selling used jars in large quantities on there off and on.
Not really, honestly. I’m too chicken to meet up with someone over some jars. 🤣🫙

Wow, hope you can get them cheaper soon! It’s crazy how prices are different around the world. Welcome to the channel! 😁
What are you lining your shelves with? If you don’t mind sharing. I have cut up card board right now.
The shelves came with a thick plastic liner for each shelf. It’s very durable and nice! 👍
thank you for answer I too bought my shelves from Costco but unfortunately no liners
So buy them in winter or spring. They have them on sale. I bought a lot from Azure in February and far cheaper than Walmart.
