I vividly remember how good those Pacers teams were. Especially defensively. But I also remember how Roy Hibbert went from being one of the most effective defensive big men, to being considered an unplayable defensive liability almost overnight. That's how fast the league changed racing to follow the small-ball, positionless trend.
& Larry seen it coming. Paul refused to play PF. Got mad because Bird dissed Hibbert, & ultimately left Indy because they refused to trade for Anthony Davis.
Don’t forget David West, George Hill in his prime, Mahinmi
Facts 🎯
They could have went to the finals a couple times if it wasn’t for Bron
hibberts downfall was his weak ego after his lady was caught up with a teammate
man imagine if Danny Granger wasn’t riddled with injuries right as PG was coming up, could you imagine how good those 2 would’ve been healthy, with a David West/Roy Hibbert front court, would’ve been even better than they were.
Yes, this is true
yeah but part of the reason PG was able to grow was because of Danny getting hurt
PG wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity he got if Granger never got hurt
Man imagine if PG was 4 inch taller and 1 step faster. If Roy had a jumper and Danny could pass like Jason Kidd?!? Fun pointless what ifs. Things are interconnected, PG wouldn’t develop as quickly w DG taking all the reps, or maybe DG ask out or a litany of possibilities.
Bout good enough to lose to the heat in the conference finals.
That Pacers team had an all star Danny Granger that had a career destroying injury as soon as they took off. A big what if.
PG might not be what he is today if not for granger getting hurt.
@@bn1342 yea and no kinda cuz pg a 2/3 granger was a 3/4 so they woulda been able to both get minutes
But pg wouldn’t of been the star of the team
@@bn1342 Idk. PG was a 6'8" SG.
Quinteto: george hill, danny granger/lance stephenson, paul george y por dentro david west y roy hibert.
I enjoy real basketball talk. The X’s and O’s matter and I enjoy it much more than pushing a narrative from the more popular talking heads that NEVER speak of the game in this way. It is truly appreciated
Right, this basketball conversation makes first take with like Stephan a and mad dog look like 4th graders discussing ball. They just blindly throw around narratives while watching only like 5 teams in the league on a consistent basis.
Roy Hibbert made verticality a household name. That's his influence on today's nba.
Prior to him, it wasn't really discussed as a popular defensive tactic to jump straight up in the paint while taking a bump to contest layups.
When Roy found out you could do so while taking contact and not get called for a foul, he abused it and other rim protectors started to follow suit.
So yeah you can say Roy had terrible skills outside of that one move, but he popularized verticality.
It was only allowed because he was doing it to Lebron NBA had no way of slowing down Lebron until then. Had it been other people and not Bron it would've just been called a blocking foul, as it should've. That style of play makes basketball worse tbh. Defenders can either take a charge or attempt to block the shot. Hibbert was literally just going for body contact everytime and not to mention he always jumped slightly forward so when body contact was made it appeared appeared like he was going straight-up
The NBA decided to change the rules too , which was ridiculous
@@gamechanger114 that makes no sense
2 things:
1) I love how PG explains what challenges he was facing in terms of his game developing and his mindset in tackling those. When you think of the injury he returned from, his mental fortitude is next level. Period.
2) I can sooo see JJ coaching in the next 10 years or so. I love the way he's approaching his media pursuits, trying a bit of this and a bit of that (he recently called a couple of games right?). Then after coaching, front office for sure. Mans is a basketball abyss.
I remember Dwyane Wade hitting a million floaters against the Pacers that year so I know exactly what they're talking about
Yea, the PG Pacers were dope. Loved rooting for them against the Heat.
It’s crazy because when PG said when he was trying to get more opportunity the Pacers coach told him he’ll get more mins when he plays more defense and he decided to lock in and play defense and made some all defensive teams that’s kind of how current Pacers coach Rick Carlisle is treating Pacers rookie Bennedict Mathurin ,with his athleticism I won’t be surprised if he becomes a two way player
Dude went toe to toe with the king..absolute beast in indy
He was hugely overmatched in that matchup. If people consider these Suns superteam, heat was ultramegasuperteam, ray Allen was at the time better than Chris Paul is now. Not to talk about Bosh and Wade. Point is that LeBron never made his teammates better. He should have swept everyone with 25 points margin.
@@branislavlukic3919 lol u are a hater and just have higher expectations with Bron than any other player. This suns is a super team they were in the finals 2 seasons ago. Western conference last season. Then they add KD. Heat wasn’t in the finals without Bron 😂😂 shows how dumb u feel now. Unless ur talking 2006 Wade and shaq which has no relevance to Brons Miami. Keep acting like this suns ain’t a SUPERTEAM all u want they have been top 3 team in the west last 2 seasons.
@@branislavlukic3919 mj bulls should have swept everyone but they didn’t. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ they were way overmatched compared to any team they faced. I can play ur troll game too
@@branislavlukic3919 ray Allen wasn’t better than CP3🤣🤣 he was literally just a spot up shooter, that looked better playing off the big 3 you mentioned
lemme guess, you weren’t actually watching in that era
@@moneymoney3235 no they shouldn't, there were no 3 superstar players + Ray Allen (if Chris Paul is superstar now, than Allen was back then also). And teams he faced had two allstar or superstar players, teams LeBron faced in the east, didn't have that.
Those teams were good when I was in elementary school. As a Pacer fan that has to be the team I’ll always be most fond of from my childhood. Sad that most of those players feel like distant memories now.
Had great series with the wizards and raptors as well..remember Mike Scott hitting like 50 3s vs the pacers in a playoff game..
I loved the early 2010s Pacers...I wanted them to win the ECF something fierce
I absolutely love my Pacers. I've really enjoyed listening to Paul George speak too. He seems like such a cool dude. Like I'd expected.
Can yall talk about how Larry Bird tried to go smallball before the Warriors, but Paul George refused to play PF? Really curious about his relationship w/ Larry.
“He don’t make the decisions around here”, was the trigger for PG to leave. That, and the fact they couldn’t offer him a super max deal since he didn’t make all NBA team
PG13 was a beast on the Pacers
These are the types of basketball conversations we need.
This was a great convo
That rookie in the corner quote is pretty novel. Great to hear about his development.
bro those roy deep drops had maimi so lost for like 9 months
I hope this videos comments section becomes a place where we can talk about pG’s play forever
Frank was a great coach with great players recipe for success
Pacers downfall was trading away Kawhi Leonard for George Hill in that draft, that would have changed the course of everything
Facts
Imagine that and Danny Granger stayed healthy
Lol sure if it was that obvious why did Leonard get picked 15th…
@@pump5991 because nba scouts are terrible & almost always have been
As a heat fan, I remember being absolutely terrified of Roy Hibbert in the playoffs for a couple years there 100%. Had times that I really though PG and hibbert were about to bully Lebron and d wade rough times 😂
David West was the toughest guy on that heat. Heat were unmanly and the Pacers exploited that.
@@baldeagle7800I think Lance messed things up for my Pacers. He made Lebron mad blowing in his ear and he was so crazy he became a distraction for the Pacers.
I'll watch the full interview , then watch all the clips too anyway lmao
The Bucks are the modern day version of that with Brook Lopez and Giannis
Back then you could be physical. -PG
Thanks for acknowledging the obvious PG, the game was more physical back in the day, even ten years ago.
That leads to lower scoring, now scoring is so high hence the almost 400 points between Clippers and Kings in one game.
The NBA wants more casual fans so they will encourage these higher scoring games and league which will lead to more records being broken even the scoring record. Then another person who will join other best NBA players to win titles, will break records and claim they are the best.
Paul George knows basketball 👍
Some producer should tell JJ to interpret all of the language he used at the top of this clip so that the average fan could appreciate the point that I am is sure he was making, as I suspect it was very interesting...
Always will love my indiana Pacers!
I know he's not a top 10/15 player in the NBA. But PG is one of may favourite players to watch ... his game is so smooth and easy on the eye
maybe not anymore, but he's been a top 10-12 player for 75% of his career
I’m a fan of the nba because of pg and those packers teams
Heat pacers 2013 was a all time series
I bet Roy wouldn’t be sitting in a hole now . I can hear the coach now “ get up Roy “ “ close out Roy “ 🤣🤣
I always really liked Paul, but it’s been disappointing to see him not maximizing his potential. I know he’s had bad injuries, but in all star games he still looks like he’s a top 10 player. The rest of the time he looks like a top 20 or 25 guy, esp in the playoffs
Why does PG sound like LeBron 😂
Vuelve a retirate a los pacers paul una pareja exterior haliburton de base y paul george de escolta daría mucho mucho juego,el veterano y el jovenzuelo juntos.
Respect self then we know of respecting others
Couldn’t get pass the 👑! But was a great team. Let’s not forget about Tinsley!
That Pacers team never gets credit for how good they were. Mainly because people like Stephen A and others always try to talk down LeBrons competition.
Did y’all say Frank Vogel’s name once? Lol
I swear, every players team was revolutionary. There’s always a new one every week
Which one was last week?
@@Ppace23 Kenny said Houston in the 90s changed basketball literally last week
Well I mean if their team wasn't that good, it wouldn't be talked about in the first place
They were the best of the eastern conference teams that got dominated by Lebron.
Too bad big markets ruined the chances of any small market team
If danny granger could have stayed healthy them three would have been nasty for the league
damn jj all in on this. nba media thing..most players just take it casually but jj reallky investing his time n hes rich so he no need for him too
Lebron owned us :(
pacer nation
If they had a Chris Paul they would have won a ring.
Never forget Paul George scored 5 points in an elimination game in Utah
Joe Ingles special!
And Utah is rebuilding.
That’s tough 😂
Nigga get a life 😂
Utah is a poverty franchise
With Tyronn Lue as head coach they not getting far.
They pushed lance out the league too soon
He was silly
@@ishak4337 he could hoop tho
Defense and offense
Paul George is 6'9 -6'10 7ft 1 wingspan hardworking tough minded physical player That's reminds me of Scottie pippen without the talent 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Lol why are these fools running out of their way to sign dressbrick 😂
My Clippers needs to trade Paul George. He ruined the Clippers by wanting Westbrick. Clippers should send them both back to OKC for Shai back. Stupid af Wayoff Pee goes 3-15 last night.
Why is deandre still in the league and not Dwight? Makes no sense to me
If pacers got AD they would have already been in the finals
Let everybody tell it they're just another forgotten relic of the "garbage east" that people bring up to discredit Lebron's run. Them boys was hooping tho
No. It was just them. It was Indiana or nothing. That East was real garbage. Derrick Rose got injured in 2012 and that was it. Meanwhile in the west it was always a dogfight every round.
@@Hooperd2023 boston???
@@49zeph kg Pierce got older and Ray was with the Heat
Think it was 2012 or 13. Dallas was 50% win percentage at 10th seed in the west 41-41. Milwaukee was like 46% win percentage at 8th seed in the east. Factor in east teams play against east teams more often, the east teams arguably had easier schedules. Boston at 7th was only 41-40 as well.
Go Pacers!
Where'd these so-called handles go?
Wayoff P at his finest
Those pacers couldn’t get past the hawks lol
Paul george was drafted in 2010, and was a guy by 2013, how was that a late bloomer? Lmao
Cuz you didn’t watch him all the way from the beginning…his offensive skills are now levels above his days with the Pacers
Pg is not a great player.
if you want to know why those pacers teams failed, listen to this discussion about "those pacers teams"... specifically how much time paul george spends talking about the team compared to talking about himself. you can tell this guy has only ever had one thing on his mind, and it starts and ends with paul george. self obsessed narcissist, so deluded he can't understand why he still gets booed when he returns to indy while guys like sabonis get tributes and standing ovations
Paul George was so bad last night
Are you shocked? This is the same bum who wishes he was white
Nah he had 🐜 or, Jaden who’s 1st team all nba defense and, that’s no longer debatable. Jaden is the best perimeter defender in the NBA

It’ll never happen but if Paul came back to Indy to play with Tyresse and Myles 🤤🤤🤤…. Of course I would also be the biggest hypocrite since I’ve never had a good thing to say about him since he left us 😂
should've beat the heat smh
Listen PG I like but please listen to me carefully I need u back that’s was back then Indiana days right now at this moment we can’t keep affording to give up these games we on a 4 game losing streak not acceptable come on we got the Kings tonight I need all y’all to step up 😡😡😡😡
So they revolutionized defense by leaving a slow big man in the post and getting the guards and wings to fight over the screens??? What a revolution!!!! How about you stop clickbaiting?
Handles huh? lol bro is afraid to even hold the ball these days

He shouldn’t have did this interview, I’m so embarrassed to be a clipper rn… he’s a beta not self aware a BETA. Either get rid of him ty or both ITS DONE
Ure weird
They should get rid of him and get jimmy and hero would help clippers a lot

They weren’t very good. They topped a weak eastern conference and got disposed of easily by Miami.
