When Morgan goes Meta, she goes hard. It's so fun when you do stuff like this and your Choose your own Adventure video. Very excited to see a colorful, historical look into Morgan's headspace.
Sitting here editing photos from our long-planned trip to Europe and literally looking at stained and painted glass from the York Minster Cathedral when you said "really cool, colorful, vibrant, beautiful things." Yes! So much color! Maybe a wallpaper or a mural based on an 18th century court dress?! We want to build something like this in our backyard and this is such great inspiration!
Of course, I was thinking with all that space she could have a loom & just "whip up" some tapestries, lol ! 😆 Not only beautiful, but they insulate as well !
C.O.L.O.R! Yes! I always wonder why blah seems to be the modern interpretation of the colorways people used when period sources say "au contraire". I have travelled the world (36 countries) with history as my driving inspiration. The ancient Greeks loved color. So did the ancient Egyptians. Those temples that look all sere and beautiful were polychrome, baby! So huzzah for color. Live your dreams.
This looks great and I’m so excited to see what you do with it 👏👏👏 Edit: AND YES TO MIX AND MATCH HISTORICAL STYLES! In art history I learned about a period around 1900s called Historicism which was a mix of many older styles ❤
This is such a good video I'm actually floored. I have watched this channel casually for years and every time I come back I'm always like 'damn, I forgot what a banger of a youtube she is'. Congrats on another absolute slapper
I think mixing things from different time periods makes sence. For example 200 years ago they would of course also have older stuff in their homes not just from that era. Mixing styles from different classes could be more tricky. Like having a very exclusive big gold mirror next to a rough pull out sofa. Good luck! Looking forward seeing the journey!
I like the idea of having one or two older fancier pieces and then some newer/simpler rustic items. It works in a sort of treasured heirlooms, either from before your family fell on hardtimes or in particular for Morgan's cabin thing, that you brought with you from Europe when traveling to the new world. The moving to the Americas works particularly well for having light wood (say from clearing the land) furniture that is made with care but not too much in the way of fancy details. I think this bed still works for that pourpose because if you have the rods(which would be light and therefore transportable) it's not unreasonable to use it. Especially in areas with limited long large straight wood(where I am it's not super common)
I Love the Style you ended up editing this video in!! its nice "watching a video" with you 😂 I'm very excited to see how the vaguely historical barn series goes
I absolutely adored the "watch with me" vibe of this video. I actually said "aww, thank you Morgan!" out loud when you brought me a soda water. I'm traveling for work this week, which is always a pretty lonely experience, and this was just what I needed. I'm all in favor of mix-matching your time periods. Time traveler's cottage, indeed! It's going to be so cozy when it's finished. First your sewing room, now your cottage--you're living the dream!
I like the idea of vaguely historical as a 14th centurary house might get 15 th centuray doors, 16 th centuray wall paintings, 17 the centuary decorations and 18th centuary furniture or something like that mixed up with some fantasy.
Loving the cozy cottage and stove! There’s nothing like a wood burning stove and the modern ones are so much more efficient. If you’ll be using it by yourself, I highly recommend a kindling cracker, because they make chopping kindling so much easier and safer (not that I don’t love swinging an axe towards my feet but 😬). We use ours all the time (even the “manly men” agree it’s a very effective way to make small kindling).
This is so exciting!! I can’t wait to see what you do with it! The description you gave of your inspiration/plan sounds so fun and lovely and cozy :D Does Mr. Morgan Donner have a channel for his woodworking? He looks like he’d be entertaining to watch :)
@@MorganDonner or perhaps more accurately, @ Mr Donner, sometimes even putting up a tripod with the wife's camera while you work can be enough. The moment where you broke the fourth wall during the sponsorship and then talked to us like we were actually there with you watching and getting us a soda water was genius, I've seen fourth wall breaks in UA-cam videos before but never one that felt so warm and welcoming
I 100% agree! If only I could convince him 😂. He'd rather just enjoy making stuff and showing off the finished result rather than filming the process though 🤷♀️
@@MorganDonner well maybe it can start off just showing the finished product. And talk about what he did to make it. Then as he grows his audience he will be showing more of the process then just like that he has a woodworking show whit an ol timey feel and some stunning historical outfits his wife made him.
Back in the 1970s my then-husband and I built a couple of cabins. First in Wyoming, the second on the edge of the forest in rural Montana. Like many others then, we were part of the counter culture back to the land movement. Also raising goats and chickens along with our young son. Organic garden, making bread in wood fired stove, etc. I love watching your process, and doing it in a hands-on, comfortable, manageable way. Only concern I have is this: You have well-fireproofed underneath the stove, but nothing on the adjacent walls, but wood. Yikes! Looks very scary to me. Remember that heat radiates and rises. Never leave that fire alone.
Oooohhh the fun noises you're going to hear as that wood drys in place. Pops and pips and snaps as the wood change shape while drying. It's one of the fun things about timber frame buildings.
The editing of your videos just keeps getting better and better and I am so impressed with every new one! This one is so creative that while the project presented in the video is super cool to begin with… but the editing makes a real piece of art out of documenting a different piece of art. Mindblown 🤯
We had a similar wood stove, back in the 70's, when I was younger. This brought back memories. I am awed by Mr. And Mrs. And their diy ethic. You would be great neighbors
All historical homes with great character were designed by not just one person, but decades of people adding what suited them and that time period. It's what makes the story of that home interesting.
I liked the you watching the video as part of the video. I always enjoy the way you put together your videos, and am excited to see what you put out here in 2023.
Morgan, what I was picturing you describing for the interior sounds like Swedish country houses with intricately-painted walls and mashed-up “history.” Would definitely suit the environment! Looking forward to seeing it unfold.
Instead of a “Vaguely historical cabin” it could be a time traveler’s cabin! The time traveler has taken her favorite parts of history and brought them into her home
I have trouble expressing how much I love your content! It's so thoughtful and creative and joyful and it makes me feel more of all of those things for myself. Thank you so much! ❤❤❤❤❤
I love the theme! Good for you! "Just, historical, oldtimey" SO much more fun, we're a product of ALL of the past, not just one year or one time period!
I love how creative your videos are! I haven’t seen anyone do a sort of inception video and I thought it was a super cool idea. Morgan, you’re always killing it with the content. Love it and wishing you a happy and healthy new year! Thanks for sharing with us 🤠
I think that the fact that you *can* pick and choose the most beautiful parts of every century is absolutely amazing, and maybe, the whole point? I have no doubt, that if our ancestors had the same opportunity to pick and choose they would take whole hearted advantage of it. 🥰🌺
I love how your daily style has evolved, it's so fun but so effortlessly you! Also, I am so excited about this project! Can't wait to see what you do with the place
Whoa this is kinda the best produced video I‘ve ever seen… The chill watching UA-cam together with you? The drinks you offered to us? The open ending? Chef‘s kiss😍
Look at you!! The cabin is awesome!! I recommend some kind of reflective fire safe surface behind the stove to protect the wall. It will really help reflect heat into the room and keep the walls from over hearing.
It is more than double the recommended clearances away from combustible surfaces for this particular model, but the point about reflecting heat back in the room is not something I had considered, thank you for commenting!
Also something to consider: If you plan to cover the cabin under your home insurance, the insurance company may require it. In my experience, they tend to get quite persnickety about wood heating.
Morgan, think about this: anyone living in the 18th century would have possessions passed down from family. So even their environment would have been a mixture of....history. Your cottage is gorgeous! Two enthusiastic thumbs up, Mr. and Mrs. Donner!!!
Pro tip for those who are going to put a brand spanking new wood stove into a building. Put it outside for the first fire. This will prevent any possible outgassing from stinking up your space and it's probably going to save your lungs. The space is super cute btw. Super excited for you! :)
I have the same type of latch on a door in my house, it's on a brown barnboard door and it does mark the door but since the door is wood from a torn down barn, it's rustic and who cares about a little more wear.
If Morgan Donner hosted an HGTV show talking about rescuing and renovating historic houses (without losing their historic charm), I'd watch every season. There is something about her tone and cadence that makes talking about building a cabin so dang relaxing yet fun. Forget about the Property Brothers, I want to see Morgan Donner talk about historic houses
You probably get told by everyone "Gosh I wish I could be your friend!" But man I wish I could be your friend! I'd bring my spinning wheel and sit there and spin happily while learning fun things!
It’s okay to mix styles. Living in the UK we have cottages from lots of different historic periods, but none of them have stayed exactly as they were built. New owners always ‘modernised’ them. Medieval cottages didn’t have glass in the windows or a chimney, or an iron stove. Tallow candles and smoke helped to create the authentic yellow-brown walls, and the floors were often just earth or stone covered in rushes or straw. You’re not making a museum piece - just have some fun.
Wow! This is going to be a great project! Of course this is your castle and castles accumulate all kinds of different things from different centuries, so totally fitting, IMO!
That was a fun tour Morgan. Thanks for the delicious water 😄. The stone under the stove is super pretty, the whole build is! Enjoy decorating, You have great ideas.

This looks so amazing and can’t wait until you fill it with treasures from your time travels! That stove with the glass front is so nice!!!
This will be your time travelers cottage home base! With a bunch of treasures they’ve taken from their adventures into the past! Lovely the see
Yes! No beige! Colourful historical! What a wonderful place this already is, and will certainly become even more so.
Thanks for sharing with us 🤠
I love the sort of commentary style of this video! Instead of adding things in afterwards with a voice over, you made this truly a unique experience!
This gave me much more adorable and cozy Emperor's New Groove vibes with the pauses/fast forwards/etc. This is utterly delightful! Thank you!
I think that the fact that you *can* pick and choose the most beautiful parts of every century is absolutely amazing, and maybe, the whole point? I have no doubt, that if our ancestors had the same opportunity to pick and choose they would take whole hearted advantage of it. 🥰🌺
Hygge. That sense of cozy and comfortable. Have fun decorating your sweet, little cottage.
@@MorganDonner personal experience! Those little stoves can really throw off heat!
You and Rachel are living my dream!!!
I love the way you use your creativity with the videos too! Loved watching this new episode, production value is over the roof! Loved loved loved it.
You're so imaginative with your film-making and storytelling skills ! I'm amazed by the format 😍
You probably get told by everyone "Gosh I wish I could be your friend!"
But man I wish I could be your friend! I'd bring my spinning wheel and sit there and spin happily while learning fun things!
So amazing. I have followed you for a couple of years, you are always full of great information. Looking forward to the series.
The decor aesthetic is just “time” and I love that for you XD I’m in awe of this like y’all seriously built a whole heckin building! WOWOW!
Insulate, insulate, insulate!
Wow! This is going to be a great project! Of course this is your castle and castles accumulate all kinds of different things from different centuries, so totally fitting, IMO!
Wow, Morgan, thank you for letting us see how happy this project is making you. It's nice to get to share this happiness ❤
Having the worst day at work. Goes on lunch to see new Morgan video. Day made 100% better. Thank you 💜. 10/5 amazing content!
You are living the harvest moon/stardew valley fantasy 😢😍😍
Love this format! It adds so much to the "bringing us along with you" feel of the video.
Mix and match your times! The vibe should be Morgan’s happy space!
Congratulations on a very nice looking cottage! Have fun
“Immortal magpie” is a valid interior design style.
Totally agree about avoiding “ historical beige”! I live in an old adobe from around 1830 and I’ve gone pretty bold with color and I’m loving it!
Love the way this video was filmed, it's so fun
Feel so lucky to see some of Mr Morgan Donner and his work! Very excited to see more of your shared project 😊
The „framing“ of watching together is a very cute way of presenting the Video ❤
love the way it's edited like i'm hanging out with a friend who is introducing me to a new show, that is so clever
That was a fun tour Morgan. Thanks for the delicious water 😄. The stone under the stove is super pretty, the whole build is! Enjoy decorating, You have great ideas.
I would like you to know that your channel is one of the sole reasons I want to wear dresses and skirts more DESPITE THE FACT that Im a trans guy and they would normally make me feel super dysphoric. But you make them seem so fun and lovely to wear- I WANNA WEAR SKIRTS GODDAMNIT. YOU ALWAYS LOOK SO AWESOME IN THEM. 😤
I love it when you wear red accents and accessories. And, the building looks great too!
I’m living for those red boots!
The timing of that soda break/ad break was perfection! 😂😂
The absolute urge to build an live in an adorable little wooden cottage. ❤️❤️❤️
