  • I’ve played the equivalent of a couple of verses of each song. My interpretation of Mna na h-Eireann is derived from listening to various versions of the song which followed the musical composition of Sean O Riada. I’m not certain who wrote the lyrics to May Morning Dew but my interpretation of the song is derived mainly from versions sang by Sean Keane, Dolores Keane and Kevin Conneff of The Chieftains.

Lovely interpretations John, and you really put a lot of heart in this performance. Great feeling as well as great pick'n !

Many thanks, Frank. I really enjoyed your version of Women of Ireland posted last year…but looking over the comments on YT it looks like I didn’t comment at the time! Nor can I find your version on SAW group…where I may have commented…did you post it there?

This is just gorgeous, John. These slow airs are so difficult on the mandolin. I'm not normally a fan of tremolo in Irish music, but you make it work perfectly here. And you resist the temptation to speed things up. Great playing.

Really beautiful John. It’s hard to play fast but it’s also hard to play slow. This could be the soundtrack for a spaghetti western.
