Needs no qualifiers Scotsman. I agree with you. A Wonderful study of the Human Condition with Probably the most Beautiful Cinematography ever in a Motion Picture. I have always been a Gladiator,Fury,Heat,No Country for Old men,Godfather type of guy. But I became a Kubrick Convert after seeing 2001,ACO,Spartacus,Lolita,FMJ. His characters are so Genuine. Good people,Bad people,Indifferent People. Power Hungry or Humble. They speak for themselves through actions not words. Of course the Dialogue of BL is excellent, the parts without speak without saying. Only one I have not seen is EWS. My lady and I will view that this St Valentine's. My mother's antecedents hail from Middle Scotland. The Chalmers. They came over in the 1840s and 50s
I`ve been looking for this song for over 30 years. This melody haunted me, accompanied me, surprised me at times, all of sudden on random or special occasions. I tried describing it to people, looking for it on youtube, whistling it to shazzam and soundhound, asking if someone knows the tune. Never found out its name. It must have made a tremendous impression on me as a kid when I watched this brilliant movie with my older brothers, and then forgot about it throughout the years. Now, after all that time, by accident, I watch this genious Kubrick movie..And there it is. I`m absolutely overwhelmed and mesmerized by the sheer beauty of that song and the memories of my late father and the good, old family times we`ve had in the 90`s. Thank you universe for bringing this song back to me in one of the most hellish weeks of my life. Greetings to all of you who have been equally mesmerized by this beautiful, ethereal, Irish tune. Cheers
I am equally mesmerized. Thank you so very much for sharing your story - most sincerely. Me, I fell asleep to YTs algorithm and it somehow played a 90+ minute Kubrick tribute/documentary. I awoke to just the ending credits where the producers had selected this song.
This tune makes me think of my Irish mother. I loved her and miss her so much. She died in 2019. She loved Ireland yet lived in America for 63 years. I am going to play this at her memorial.
This was the most beautiful song in the movie I watched just before my father passed away. As such I will always associate this immortal music with him
This music touches your soul, even if you're not Irish... It's beautiful and melancholic, evokes a sense of longing for something or someone. Greetings from Malaysia !
It has been said of us Irish that "All their wars are merry and all their songs are sad." Centuries of sorrow and brutal oppression can be heard in a lot of Irish songs. Enjoy!
Rest in peace Paddy, you were the greatest musician that I've heard in my life, such an inspiration for new musicians around the world like me, that love Ireland and his beautiful music.
I'm from Serbia, and I don't know why, but Ireland always reminded me of home, the people, the music, the painful history, I feel like I can easily resonate with that. Much love from Serbia to my Irish friends.
Saw it recently for the first time and it has quickly become my favorite film of all time. Thank you for posting this. Absolutely love the OST. Kubrick.. what a genius!!

I can't help but cry every time as soon as i hear the first 20 seconds of this song. It has something so powerful in it...i don't know how to explain the nostalgia and sense of grief that it unravels in me
The Chieftains perform this, same recording from 1973 album, Chieftains 4. Seán Ó Riada (born John Reidy) wrote it years earlier but does not perform on this sound track, made after he died in 1971.
Una gran melodía, incorporada magistralmente en la cinta de Robin Hood, donde parece que los personajes principales se entrelazan al momento de bailarla, prácticamente casi sin tocarse, sublime
Nan used to beat me with a Scooby Doo TM 2004 action figurine ( with posable legs ) while listening to this song. lovely piece of music please. Thank you please x.
Wrong! ;-) It reminds one of Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" (1975), where most people heard it first (if they heard it at all). Haunting theme used throughout the movie. That harp! That whistle!
Of course everybody knows this version...but as a spaniard, for me, I have to say this was the best modern tribute to such a precious, wonderful, unforgettable composition, God bless Irish people and land: I am speaking about The Christians 'Words": ua-cam.com/video/UfcDJNElrl4/v-deo.html
Still one of the Greatest Films ever made...
@Duke Tango turned the song into Hallucinations of Ireland
Definately. I bought it recently to watch again soon. Love this tune
and a good book, on which it was based
My words exactly

God Bless Kubrick for doing a beautiful film with Irish music and setting. Its odd as its one of his lesser known films but one of my favourites.
One of the best movie ever made

Irish mammies are the best ❤ I have one too.
My mom is Irish too! ❤ Lucky enough to listen to this with her. Our hearts and minds are with you and your dear mother
I don’t know why. This tune always makes me cry
This was the most beautiful song in the movie I watched just before my father passed away. As such I will always associate this immortal music with him
The tune of the Irish diaspora across the world. A feeling of longing and regret but also of acceptance.
cinnte .. má chuireann tú san áireamh an méid a d’fhulaing muintir na hÉireann sa stair ... !!
Rest in Peace Ryan O'Neal.
This music touches your soul, even if you're not Irish...
It's beautiful and melancholic, evokes a sense of longing for something or someone.
Greetings from Malaysia !
It evokes a long sadness in me.
my uncle touches me
You don’t have to be Irish deartháir to feel this music
Sean O riada ? it is magnificient
I'd never heard of *'Barry Lyndon'* til a few years ago. What a fantastical film!!!
This wasn't just a film. This was a wonderful painting full of emotions escorted by beautiful music.
It was not just a film, but a point in time. Serenading over a life well lived. Kubrick made sure to give us a fable we'll never forget.
Rest in peace Mr. Kubrick. Your films inspired me too, and I will always love them. That is the greatest gift any artist can give this world.
I had this during the interval at my son Thomas josef funeral
Very moving piece of music.
God rest his soul 🙏🙏
Wonderful, I am sure your son Thomas Josef would have loved that. It is very beautiful music, you should be very proud. I am sorry for your loss.
Thank you so
Much ❤
Heartbreaking! Thank you. First heard this in 1975 and it touches a childhood chord of melancholy.
I quite agree, for it does touch a chord of meloncholy.
It has been said of us Irish that "All their wars are merry and all their songs are sad." Centuries of sorrow and brutal oppression can be heard in a lot of Irish songs. Enjoy!
I'm french and i've watched Barry lyndon when i was 25. i'm 27 and this song breaks my heart. I'm not famous for my melancholy
Rest in peace Paddy, you were the greatest musician that I've heard in my life, such an inspiration for new musicians around the world like me, that love Ireland and his beautiful music.
The greatest film ever made
It is impossible to describe my feelings while im listening
It seems like this is ancient music. Only uncluttered mind could create such clear natural beautiful melody.
Beautifully put.
Listen to Davy Spillane, Midnight Walker. It has the same effect on your soul.
@@gwenfancello5384 Thank you, I will go to listen.
Sean O Riada, one of the greatest composers who should be recognised for his genius among the greatest.
I just watched Barry Lyndon. ❤❤❤❤❤ This is sublime. Touches my heart so.
My first date was at a Chieftans concert. Now we're loving their music 45 years later. Love you Gabrielle.X
Derek, Paddy, and Sean are gone now.
My favorite movie of all time
I'm from Serbia, and I don't know why, but Ireland always reminded me of home, the people, the music, the painful history, I feel like I can easily resonate with that. Much love from Serbia to my Irish friends.
It so beautiful.

I feel exactly the same when I hear it. Midnight Walker has the same effect on me.
God Bless, The Women of Ireland .
The best song to dance at home in the dark, at the light of this night of bluee moon.
I’m cringing at the thought of that.
@@luismaldonado4989 Nice oportunity of confronting fears 💪
Just make sure you have enough potatoes for the walk home.
Seán Ó Riada was Ireland's greatest composer and I'm proud to have attended a school named after him. Gaelscoil Uí Riada, Baile an Easpaig, Corcaigh.
RIP Paddy Moloney. Heartbreaking...
That’s the Chieftains not O’Riada. O’Riada died in 71. Barry Lyndon was made in 75. Some of the Chieftains played with O’Riada in Ceoltori Culan.
The Chieftains perform this, same recording from 1973 album, Chieftains 4. Seán Ó Riada (born John Reidy) wrote it years earlier but does not perform on this sound track, made after he died in 1971.
I wondered where I heard the main theme from Gladiator before !
Thank you Seán Ó Riada 1970
Sublime
My all time "bit of Ireland." If my life had a themesong, this would be it, since 1975.
Thank you, Clanagan. You certainly deserved the Oscar.
Hate talking about my self but VERY few pieces of music can make me cry.
This does everytime.
Sublime incantevole celestiale musica e film eccezionale
This particular music is Seán Ó Riada's "Mná na h-Éireann" ("Women of Ireland"), written in the early 1960's.
Marvellous !!!
I am 61% Irish. This music touches me to my soul.
Bellissimo film❤️
God bless Kubrick. Genius.
O Riada wrote this; it's performed by The Chieftains.
Haunting melody
Tudo neste tema musical é perfeito.
Kubrick's masterpiece Barry Lyndon :)
That was the movie. The music was composed by Irish traditional composer named Sean O'Riada.
@@helenaville5939 yes m referring to the movie itself :)

Jeff Beck and Co do a great version of this.
One question I still ask myself, was that track made for the movie or was it written prior the movie was done.

Los mejores tiempos de mi vida, escuchando está música mientras una mujer leía para hacerme dormir...
Afortunado tu.
Yo, tarareando esta canción muchos años (ahora 71) para calmar mi corazón por la añoranza de un amor imposible….
There is a song with this tune in it. What is it called? 80s or 90s male vocalist.
Found it. The song is called Words by the artists The Christians.
Have a look to Sinnead O’Connor. Perhaps….
Thank you for reply Joan. I actually found the song. The song is called Words by The Christians.
