You can use an SSD, although bare in mind the machine has a SATA 2 cable which means it won't utilize all of the SATA 3 SSD's read/write speed (It will only utilize ~250-300 Mbs). Ram can be upgraded up to 8 GB using two 4GB SO-DIMM DDR3 modules. I don't think there are many great upgrades for the CPU on these units, some have tried with mixed results. For the GPU I'm not sure, maybe you can swap around a GPU from some of the earlier models like the Early 2008 iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS (512 MB) or the Late 2007 with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO (256 MB). It can be upgraded up to El Capitan (Officially). For Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina you can use Dosdude1's patchers and OpenCore Legacy Patcher for later versions of macOS. I think it's still a good machine for basic tasks such as web browsing.
If not macOS, Linux will continue to work.
I got Ubuntu Studio 22.04 installed on an iMac 20“ early 2008 with 4GB of RAM. Gonna upgrade to a SSD soon.
No, I am very emotionally attached to my Dell Optiplex 990 from 2011. I do have a few newer computers in my household (although my Optiplex is 100% my computer only), it’s so on some websites and lacks in some areas and I do have the money for a better system, but I just love the damn thing like a girl. I’m thinking of replacing it with a silicon Mac Mini, maybe.
I still use a mid 2009 iMac in Early 2024, it’s ok for simple tasks, but a very basic computer overall.
I have that exact same model iMac and I have 8GB of RAM with it running macOS Catalina
awesome job
3:15 I see that the CPU is socketed! What is the best CPU you could put in that socket?
I wonder if you could put a quad core i5 in there
What game are you playing @ 7:49 ?
looks like it’s connected to the web well enough
These things are great windows retro gaming pc. Big nice displays great speakers decent graphics for the time. Buy one while they are cheap
Can you use that machine as an external monitor for a laptop?
Or is the screen hardwired to the circuits of the actual computer?
unfortunately i think its the latter one
I actually watched the old video two days ago because I actually picked up a 24 inch model from the same year and I was looking for upgrade paths
Nice video keep it up
The mac I have is from 2012 and its the mac mini which I already installed the latest Ubuntu Linux over it and erased the mac os it had. It already feels smoother with the ram upgrade too to 8gb.
@Psivewri what is the music used in this video?
Change cpu to t9500 and use a patcher and install mojave or catalina
make a video of you laptop collection. that will be so cool
That’s not a daddy long legs, they don’t make webs and they have a different shape in general, that might be a cellar spider which is similar but slightly different
It looks so good the curved bezel
You can install much newer MacOS with available patchers.
If I buy it, do I get pet spider with it😂
Hi! I have same model, early 2008 20" C2D 2,66ghz. mine has issue with GPU thermal sensor. It reads 129 degrees celsius all the time and it is, let's say, okay in non graphic tasks, but in all other tasks are sooo slow. how can I give my mac a second life? No service was brave enough to take my mac in and service it properly. I guess just thermal sensor has to be replaced...
good boy PUP🐾😉😄
Got two of these. Can't understand why Apple ditched the optical drives.
Because physical media is becoming more obsolete. Most people don't include one when building their PCs and console manufacturers are trying to get rid of optical drives
Web Development LOL I cant
I have an old iMac, like 2011 but it runs well. I’d like to install the newest OS but it’s too old. Any tips?
I should have you restore the Power Mac G5 I found in a landfill. I'm sure that will be a challenge.
The spider web development joke caught me off guard I got whiplash
I have a media PC that i never really used but somehow after less than a year, the fans are clogged with dust
