Believing and understanding are different words for a reason. Watching two honest believers trying to understand what they believe is something humanity is currently in short supply of. I'm encouraged and hopeful this will spread.
You know ... the most common cause for a metaphysical change in belief is dysregulation of activity in high-level cortex and compression of the brain’s hierarchical organization; essentially breaking down discrete brain functions into unified consciousness; a function of synaptic growth via 5-HT2AR agonism that is most heavily expressed during infancy during cortical growth; experienced meditators and classes of pharmacological intervention can also cause this. While the limbic system keeps everything working together, the different "functions" of your brain are essentially isolated, discrete things. 5-HT2AR is largely responsible for cortical growth in infants and children; creating synaptic plasticity that ... left unchecked, would result in a sort of "transcended consciousness" state where people's brains are working together. For reasons yet unknown, some peoples' brains stop developing sooner than others, limiting their consciousness experience. Everyone is human, but there is a REASON that every human is unique. Adults can increase related synaptic plasticity with meditation, breathing exercises, pharmacological intervention, or an NDE - all of which have massive empirical bodies of evidence indicative of a metaphysical change in belief structure. All you have to do to solicit proof of God is to ...science - bypassing limited cortical expansion and pre-emptively segregated neural activity into uncommunicative, discrete functions. Put another way....some people are going to be pre-dispositioned into belief in a higher power due to enhanced cognitive capabilities. Other people are going to have a metaphysical belief shift based on life experience (which is brain chemistry again). Some people are never going to experience these things. Faith is ... I really want to say irrelevant. Realistically, faith is best expressed as a word or tool for those with arrested neural receptor development, or those with either no access to data, or without the intellectual curiosity to investigate available datasets or to utilize the scientific method to gain comfort.
I'm glad you've found something in it, however it's not Dallas and crew. This is part of the problem with stuff like this, people attribute their change to mere men....when it's the Holy Spirit that changes our hearts of stone to hearts of flesh. Merry Christmas to you and pray you're resting in His assurances.
Brilliant show. Well acted. Well written. I learned more about Jewish culture, customs and worldview than I ever have in any other show about Jesus. It's shocking actually how much the Jewish culture was almost totally ignored and how 'Western' sanitised previous Jesus shows were.
Oh, I am gonna enjoy watching this one. I absolutely LOVE IT when people talk about storytelling. I wish I was a writer but I am at least a major enthusiast for storytelling as a structure. Narrative as a construct is absolutely amazing and it's one of the most important core topics that Jordan talks about. It's at least half of why I listen to him and all I can say is Merry Christmas! This is truly a gift.
I could listen to these 2 men all day.. Thank you God for honing their skills and allowing us to see their works firsthand. The internet is good in these ways. I’m praying for the Chosen’s success. It changed my way of looking at Jesus in the best way possible ❤️
"He doesn't make a good protagonist, he doesn't grow or change in any way" I've heard it theorized that there are two types of protagonist -- one that grows and changes, and one that is the hinge, the fixed point, that the entire story revolves around. I heard that theorized in a commentary about Captain America, of all places, but if you need something more highbrow you can point to Myshkin in _The Idiot_ as well. He's the catalyst that vivifies everyone he meets.
Watched Homestead over the weekend. It was pretty good for the most part. We then watched the follow up episode. It is a little disappointing how much "girl bossing" goes on. So far, most of the men are consistently wrong and are being corrected by the women who are always right. While men are not always right, by any means, the perpetuation of this trend is not something I'm pleased with. I'll likely not continue the series.
I watched this as well. I didn't pick up on the girl bossing as much, but it was there in different ways... and for different purposes One was the absence of the leader (killed off?) and the wife trying to hold it together as a now-presumptive leader seeking help in areas she's weak in (a good leader), and the psychologist intellectually combatting religiosity, and then being humbled by the death of her husband. The film was good because of a clash of viewpoints and trust (one is a belief in God, the other is a belief in self - with paranoia against everyone). I REALLY appreciate that overall the movie touches on being more self-sufficient and the conflict over saving oneself only vs helping others with limited resources. The series does so as well, and there are other videos on the homestead site that teaches you how to can, for instance. I don't watch TV, and the series honestly drains me with all the scheming and backstabbing - agendas by various people. When people are hungry, it's hard to see how they'll react - and the movie and series reflects that pretty well.
@@belstar1128 Tolkien said he didn't wanted to tell a direct story about Christianity, there are not direct allusions to the bible in LOTR, but he said he wanted to make a story that represented "Christianity in action" and he truly did, most of the themes in LOTR reflect Christian values and some of them are kinda obvious: Who had to climb a tortuous mountain carrying an impossible burden on their backs only to save humanity with the cost of their own lives? both Jesus and Frodo.
I feel like every Christian who has conversations with JP wishes we would believe in the Gospel and accept Christ as Savior. It feels as though JP is deeply searching for truth but can't look past his own disbelief.
His belief (he's admitted to being a believer plenty of times) is grounded in fear, which is one of the manners in which Solomon worshipped God in Ecclesiastes after trying other methods. I don't believe God sees anything wrong with that sort of humility.
This discussion illuminates a key point in the Christian faith: IT'S A FAITH. Lots of people have used our book and made things. But the Lord is the teacher
A.W. Tozer wrote an essay titled "The menace of the Christian Movie". I never considered how so called Christian movies were in direct conflict with God's prescribed method of preaching the gospel. For those brave enough, please read it.
I trust he's not trashing the idea of Christian movies IN AND OF ITSELF, just how badly they're usually done. (Read: Hallmark or Lifetime movie with preaching.)
The Chosen is good, but it’s still too Hallmark-like in my opinion. We need a rated R, grounded story of Christ that truly showcases how rough those times were and how brutal the Roman empire was. People seeking the truth are tired of it being sugar-coated and gift wrapped.
@@leondbleondbtoo Much Hollywood in that. Not enough Bible. It’s not about just being realistic. It’s also about presenting the word in a truthful manner.
Not sure if you’ve watched some of the later seasons, but the show seldom “sugar-coats” the tougher themes. You don’t need bloody violence or graphic visuals to tell an emotionally mature story. If you’re into that, go watch Passion of the Christ.
They make these so kids can watch them too. The idea of Jesus being hung on a cross to slowly die is enough. Why does it need to be overly bloody or R-rated. Good story telling doesn’t need to explain and show every detail. It simply needs to give you enough context so that you can fill in the details with your mind.
I've always had faith since a child but knew something was wrong with the church of England and now they are multi faith which I don't think is too strong to say is blasphemy. The Queen of England was a baptised born again Christian and king Charles is defender of the faiths. A contradiction of backing yourself into a corner of contradiction! In my cathedral we now have multi faithful by the law and not God's law . Why we are not encouraged to take our bible to service so you can't question what is said. No where in the Bible does it say God loves you unconditionally there's always a condition. Only through me will you have salvation,.. condition. We are in the time of harlot church life and God will deal with that. it's not a pick and mix book of scripture . The elders are putting us into blasphemy. You shall have no God but me anything else IS blasphemy.
There is a disadvantage to the filling of the "gaps" in Jesus' story: while the rest of the story has a clear message, now you can distill your personal ideology in it. That is a risk.
"I made vignettes, short movies, like one about the thieves beside Jesus on their crosses, it's where I met Jonathan Roumie" It's hilarious to hear Jonathan tell it. When he was cast in the role of Jesus, his reaction was, "What? Seriously? But he only has, like, seven lines."
(For those who don't know many actors, the more lines a part has the better... juxtaposed against playing the literal Lord of Creation, speaking seven of the most studied phrases in the entire Western Canon. OK, now that I've crucified that joke, I'll be quiet.)
Jordan Peterson is still discerning, but I fear his hyper intellectualization is leading people to adhere to some kind of adherence to certain principles and values, and not putting their trust and faith in Christ. JP likes what Christianity has to say but he will not commit himself to Christ. Sorry JP, but you cannot get to the Father without going through the Son. Here's praying JP will accept Christ.
Amen and Amen Edit: Upon further reflection, I wish to express my heartfelt and sincere prayer for JP. Having followed his journey for several years, I prayerfully hope he experiences a profound and extraordinary divine revelation-one that, while seemingly implausible, resonates deeply within him (the damascus road experience JP would probably call it). I yearn for him to momentarily transcend the confines of intellectualism and forge a connection with the spiritual - a lasting relationship with the Saviour. Just a single moment of such awareness could irrevocably transform his life. Come Lord Jesus.
Jesus? Is that the benevolent zombie who one day will come back from the made up to save you? That will surely happen, good luck with that. There are no gods. Grow up.
Dr Peterson a conversation with Wes Huff would be great. He is a specialist in two areas of your work and I think would be able to challenge you on your positions. The two areas of interest would be Christian fundamentalist and Scriptures not being the product of time altering and improving the text. Thanks for everything you are doing. I am really enjoying Peterson Academy.
In all actuality the thief on the cross next to Him knew His scripture and the prophecies of the Messiah and in the actions and words of Jesus the thief recognized Him by that knowledge for who HE was...and then surrendered to HIM
@JSGenesisDesigns exactly, there were two thieves and only one was insulting Christ and the other one was correcting the one who was doing the insulting. He asked Christ to ... remember me when you enter your kingdom... and and Jesus said to him: today you will be with Me in paradise. So the guest is wrong... both thieves were not insulting him. The guest probably saw that wrong information in a movie somewhere. Case in point as to why these movies being done for entertainment are inaccurate and therefore damaging.
To the one comparing the Chosen to Hallmark: No way is this series "Hallmark" level. That's like comparing a creme puff to prime rib. This is a deeply moving series that deals with heart issues, and we're not talking about fluffy, feel-good, unrealistic, romantic relationship scenarios that make up most Hallmark plots. Did you watch how Eden and Simon's relationship evolved throughout the series so far...the miscarriage and how assumptions were made regarding each other; expectations of how Simon should have been more sensitive toward Eden, and how Simon was extremely frustrated at Eden's refusal to show him love and communicate her feelings to him? Then, both of them dealing with their pain and resentment towards Jesus for not saving the baby? Did you watch how torn to shreds Thomas was after the murder of Ramah, dealing with anger and utter despair, also seething with anger and resentment toward Jesus for not raising Ramah from the dead? This is far from Hallmark, my friend. It has been nothing but stellar so far. They are even doing a remarkable job with Judas' character, showing the progression of a man with an authentic hunger for the Messiah and His mission, to a man who chooses to lean on his own understanding of what that mission should look like, and this will eventually turn his heart to stone and betrayal. To portray what I just described and all that I haven't is a work of art, painted by the Holy Spirit. The one thing that I am hoping they will do is stay true to Scripture regarding the treatment of Jesus before His death. The Bible states that He was beaten beyond human recognition. That would be deeply disturbing to see portrayed, but that is exactly what should be portrayed to allow the truth and reality of what happened cut to the heart of every soul who watches, showing what Jesus really went through when He died for humanity. From the nicest person, like Mother Teresa to the most heinesous criminal, such as Hitler. He did this with no guarantee that they would love Him back. To grasp this, just imagine Hitler being caught and brought before a judge to pay for murdering the millions that he did, then Jesus steps up and says, "I have already paid for Adolf's crimes. He just needs to accept the payment. The judge turns to Hitler and asks, "Do you accept Jesus' payment? If so, you can go free. Hitler then stands at full height, squares his shoulders, turns to Jesus, and spits in his face, saying, "No, I would rather die." What? That's insanity to refuse such an offer. But we all have free will to decide our eternal fate. The key is this: God so loved the world (which means he saw each person's value, as we were made in His image and He knew what we could be once we were cleansed from sin) that He gave His one and only Son, that we would not perish, but have everlasting life." Amazing love, how can it be, that Thou, my God should die for me." That is the depth of the love of Christ and of the Chosen. Hallmark isn't even in the same league.
I wonder if Jordan is missing the simplicity of the story telling by trying to over analyze WHY story telling is effective.. I appreciate hearing Dallas' "outside the box" thinking that helps provide a plausible story. The fact that in a few verses the thief changes is an important one to highlight and the "WHY" is good, but not in the Jordan Peterson way shown here. It's heart, not philosophical or using sophistry. The thief knowing he will die as well, and possibly not having anything useful to hang upon (not speaking of the cross, but perhaps the absence of any knowledge or belief in an afterlife, or a savior), other than seeing the pure love Christ has for these people who are persecuting him. How can someone NOT be converted? And it's worth exploring the worth of souls here.
So, as an atheist and a, how shall I say, cynic for the purpose of devil's advocacy, I will argue that people cry and wail over plenty of things. People can be absolutely crazy and their hearts can bleed for any cause at all. And even to further be a fly in the ointment, those who stand for nothing will fall for anything. When you have had nothing that appears right in your entire life and then you see someone acting as you see they should, it can be compelling, but that does not mean that you have made any meaningful change. Effectively, absent the imminent nature of their deaths, there is no reason to believe they are anything more than the Seed falling on the Rocky Ground, a passing moment of jubilation but nothing lasting. I love the idea of better storytelling for Christians, but, absent the mockery, you often need someone to help you critically assess the gospel. The propaganda aspect is to easy to fall into.
@@ActuatedGear At least you've admittedly chosen a side. I don't agree with it, but would prefer people be firm in their convictions rather than not have a position.
@@jum5238 It's not a common side. I like Christianity, for all its flaws. Best moral structure yet. I think we can do better, but no one has as such. That's all I want. Start there and then get closer to a better "God" to follow. Empiricism goes hand in hand with Rationality and this one works pretty well all things considered. Let's spend another two thousand years working the bugs out and find out where that leads. Sounds like something worthwhile.
@@jum5238 By the power of the shadowban my words disappear. I think we can do better than Christianity. It might take another 2000 years. I'm okay with that. It's still a good starting point. It's better than the rest. Making it better is also a good thing.
@@jum5238 Try number 3. Christianity is better than the rest. It's a good starting point. I believe we can do better. If that takes a couple more millennia, that's okay. No sense being hateful. Just keep trying in earnest to be better people. Seems like the point.
Xmas is pagan Saturnalia in disguise. You are addressing the antichrist's christendom...following man rather than Yah. All roads do not lead to Yah. Yeshua, the way the truth and the life, instructed that "wide is the road that leads to destruction." And further, that the way is narrow. God bless your search for truth.
If I'm not mistaken, stories are how we passed on information, long before writing and paper and.... Like everything else, what you derive/take from a story is up to you. Attacking a story teller is like killing the mesrnger. Oh wait, that story has already been told....
“It’s a pretty bad story” referring to Holy Spirit-inspired Scripture. 😮 Had the Holy Spirit thought it necessary for there to be a backstory to the thief on the cross’ experience He would have included it. By all means, use your story telling talent, but not to add to or subtract from Scripture. And as a professing Christian, to speak negatively about Jesus as in “Jesus is not a great protagonist” seems not only unbecoming but even dangerous. How can we dare criticize the inspired Word of God and claim we are better storytellers than He is? That the Holy Spirit just didn’t get it quite right?
I don’t like that they added in stories that were not accurate yet were not small roles that can be incredibly misleading and confusing to those not familiar with the scriptures and using the series as a springboard
As a mother I laugh when I think of Mary, what a shock it would have been when baby number 2 came along. “Why can’t you be more like your brother!?!” 😂
The Christian film problem is the same thing as the Woke film problem: most people most of the time don’t want to be preached at or lectured in their entertainment.
At 1:22 Dr. Peterson - your guest gave you some wrong information. He told you that the typical movie in the Bible Religious genre was word for word from the verses in the bible. That is absolutely not true and it is rare to find one that is like. (I prefer those.) The best one is Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments" as far as accuracy goes in the storyline. So many other movies are dramatized, too much music added, and story and characters reshaped with conjecture all over the place. Recently, a guy was telling me that Nicodemus in the Bible is the one who exercised this evil spirits out of Mary Magdalene. I told him, "Nowhere in the Bible does it say that." He goes, "Well, it's in the movie." And I told him, you can't trust those movies. Actually, it was Jesus who helped M.M. that way. Smh. You gotta read it for yourself. The Bible was not made for entertainment and to be made a movie of. It is critical life and death information, not to be played with and as a matter of fact there's a curse for those who do (the Bible itself very clearly states). Plus, your gues told you that both thieves were insulting Christ while they were all lifted up. That is wrong. One Thief was insulting him but the other thief rebuked the one that was insulting Christ and then he turned to Christ and said Remember Me when you come into your kingdom. In Jesus answered and said truly I tell you today you will be with me in paradise. So the person you are speaking with is doing more harm than good good cases like this. The enemy always comes with some truth mixed with lies and chaos (abd re-telling with a twist of lie). As scripture says, we are not ignorant of his subtleties. (Read Acts 10:13 story of Paul & the false prophet & sorcerer & Jew named Barjesus. Also cross reference 2 Cor. 2:11 about not being ignorant of the schemes and tricks and subtlties of the devil and those he speaks thru.
Bro, even in the chosen it was clear that Nicodemus did not exorcise any demon, your premise here is saying that the chosen portrayed Nicodemus as the "exorcist", but it made it clear as the narrative that Only Jesus and Only God could cast the demons out of Mary. Your friend just was confused or didn't pay attention to the show at all. The story wasn't in the Bible, but the lesson was clear, only Jesus (whom they clearly portray Jesus as God) could cast out the demons. The chosen enhances my Bible study, the show is definitely not negative, it is the individual who chooses what and what not to do.
I've seen short stories portrayed on video that are word-for-word Jesus scriptures, and it's done because taking literary license elsewhere might be seen as misleading. For instance, videos done by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are word-for-word following the King James version (verbally) while visibly sharing some context.
I'm sure your faith is sincere, but you need to do a little more intertextual meditations on the Gospels. Only Luke describes one of the two thieves repenting. Matthew simply says both thieves hurled insults - that is a legitimate portrayal in the canonical sacred text. Mark and John do not mention the insults of the thieves at all, only that they were crucified. Each of these authors tend to have theological/textual reasonings for their editing decisions. Pondering the differences superficially reveals so-called contradictions, but in time will reveal treasures. While I disagree with some of the thinking of Mr. Jenkins here, there is a sense in which what he presents with something like the Chosen gets people to meditate more on the Scriptural texts, which is what we all should be doing. Is some of this entertaining? No doubt, just like Jesus's parables would have been to their original audience. But multiple things can happen at the same time. And as long as the filmmakers are not making any attempts to actually change the sacred texts, or affect translations, or change church doctrine, they are not under any curse. It seems they are transparent with the fact that they are presenting an expanded account of Jesus's life and ministry that fills in gaps while trying to be faithful to the basic narrative facts from the sacred texts.
@@criminaltotheworld3154 You are right & that was my point exactly. Whoever that guy was he was very confused because of the movie. Not everyone interprets the world and people and words in the same way that the next person does. I have found that out recently more than ever. But for sure I find all kinds of errors in movies. They claim some kind of artistically way but I don't agree with it when it comes to this topic.
The Bible often feels like a "choose your own adventure" book. No matter where you start or which passage you read next, there’s a sense of connection and continuity between the verses, weaving together a cohesive story or message. Kinda weird
Realism is good but most watchers dont want realistic. I teach my kids by watching real documentaries, cuss words and all. You just cant teach them by showing if you dont show them
Amazon will not allow me to rent The Chosen season 4 from Amazon Prime Video. I have done everything possible to get help. I am a monthly giver to the Chosen and an Amazon prime video user. Google and the Leftist are preventing customers from renting season 4 or anything having to do with The Chosen costing all of us millions of dollars or billions. We should sue.
One thing I disagree that Mr Peterson said is if you ‘believe in evil then you know there is good because it’s the opposite of evil’. When you are in the grips of evil all there is, is tormenting darkness and a person questions ‘is there goodness, is there a God’. It’s a faith crises and why most lose faith in God’. Job started to doubt due to the overriding evil. Jesus stated ‘God why hast thou forsaken me’. That is exactly what evil/bad is like - the absence of light, goodness, morals and love; believing either God has abandon you or there is no goodness, love or God. And some die in that state. There can be good people that stare straight in the eyes of the abyss and are never the same. We cannot intellectualise God. As Jesus being God in flesh was a simple carpenter, but would have had knowledge and wisdom beyond primitive human comprehension. It is how we treat others, not in an eye for an eye or in hypocrisy which Christ tried to convey to the Pharisees; but in doing God’s will on earth through the adherence to the Commandments; it is in the keeping of God’s laws, in prayer…is proof of God’s wisdom and knowledge. Why people fall away from God is that most have fallen away from this moral simple way of life, fallen away from doing God’s will for self serving (evil)…and so much suffering and human misery results. Listen to what can comes out of the mouths of babes….yet to lose innocence…there you will find God’s wisdom.
Yes. This is precisely the problem with Christian film making. Instead of it being creative and unique; they simply echo word for world almost exactly what is expected. Which, is a bit boring. If I wanted the same I can simply read the Bible in different translations. What he offered was a unique insiders perspective (through the eyes of the disciples and their lives) of what it COULD have been like walking with Jesus. I’m an aspiring actor myself, and content producer, and just so happen to be Christian. And I have 0 interest in simply recreating what others have already done. What’s the point? With all the huge budget, AI generated, and recooked copycat junk available. We have to ask, why does Hollywood suck. And why do Christian films tend to suck. Because they aren’t written well, they aren’t authentic, creative, and/or don’t have the budget to manifest an over the top high quality film. What Dallas did was unprecedented. He literally filmed the first episode on faith. And the rest is history. Someone else who watched passed it onto someone else who knew how to raise money for it. And now we have an entire 5+ season series. The lessons here are simple: 1) Be unique 2) Create high-quality content (regardless of budget) 3) Step out in faith to make a difference He’s done all three. And now, many want to “come and see” what the hubub is all about. Years from now, people will be asking the same about others he has inspired in film and such (including me). And I’ll point them to Dallas Jenkins. Because it’s men like him who (among many) inspired me to step out on the waters of uncertainty and have faith. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. May God show you strength to be your own person, and to follow your dreams. - M
I'm not sure who needs to hear this, but the chosen is not the answer to christian cinema. If you want to make a movie or show on the bible, it needs to be faithful to the bible 100 percent. No adding or leaving out. Otherwise its nonsense to me. Adding in dialog or things that didn't happen for regular stuff is different than for the bible. I think liberties that make sense can be taken for any other source material. For example the lord of the rings was adapted and it was good but people are still salty over arwen bringing frodo to rivendell instead of glorfindel.
I reluctantly ceased my viewership of "The Chosen" upon realising that the portrayals within the series were increasingly becoming conflated with the biblical narratives themselves. This has prompted a continuous process of self-correction in my understanding. While the initial premise of the show was commendable, it ultimately exercises an excessive degree of artistic licence, which obscures the source material upon which it draws.
The enjoyment of good cinema requires critical thought and open mindedness, niether of which an ideologue is capable of. Christian films aren't lame because they have been doing 'cinematography' and 'intellectual storytelling' wrong, there are lame because they hold a mirror to the only audience that is remotely interested in watching art that fears stepping outside an ideology. Any other explaination is psuedointellectual COPE.
Pray for these two men, they don't know Jesus. They're embarrassed of Jesus. One won't say He rose from the dead and one says the message needs to be made palatable. Pray for them, so on that last day Jesus doesn't say 'I never knew you.'
The laugh track when she says “you can do that” was ill timed. That wasn’t a laugh track moment. That was an alcoholic who genuinely doesn’t understand that people who are not alcoholics don’t NEED to drink, so that someone would make that effort is something they can’t comprehend.
Funny thing is, Drinker is NOT exactly innocent of that. Several folks have frequently called out how he either hasn't seen a movie he's presuming to review or wasn't really watching it (because drunk or whatever). But he reviews it anyway, because he's gotta give...The Message.
@Hard_Boiled_Entertainment yeah everyone's "working an angle" like they say in White Christmas. Show biz/entertainment is an artificial construction of reality and it's always going to have false elements to it. Imagine Jonah starts to commercialize his message after he realizes he can make a living off it. Like JBP. But at least these guys are earnest
Should make a Christian film with the protagonist being a fire & brimstone preacher who wears a cowboy hat and has double silver coated 6-shooters that goes around dispensing righteous justice to evil-doers....No? Just me?
Believing and understanding are different words for a reason. Watching two honest believers trying to understand what they believe is something humanity is currently in short supply of. I'm encouraged and hopeful this will spread.

Merry Christmas Eve 🎆🎁🎄🎈🎉🥳
Merry Christmas from Anaheim California
A hug from Jordan would be epic. Of course a bit awkward since he doesn’t know me hut I imagine it being so loving and even transformative!
The movie Ben Hur was written by a man trying to understand Christ, even though Christ has very little time in the movie I believe it does the job.
The perfect Christian film already exists is called The Lord of the Rings
Nah it's the prince of egypt
Nah it’s the matrix
i don't think there were hobbits in the bible
@@belstar1128 Tolkien said he didn't wanted to tell a direct story about Christianity, there are not direct allusions to the bible in LOTR, but he said he wanted to make a story that represented "Christianity in action" and he truly did, most of the themes in LOTR reflect Christian values and some of them are kinda obvious: Who had to climb a tortuous mountain carrying an impossible burden on their backs only to save humanity with the cost of their own lives? both Jesus and Frodo.
That's not a Christian film.
I feel like every Christian who has conversations with JP wishes we would believe in the Gospel and accept Christ as Savior.
It feels as though JP is deeply searching for truth but can't look past his own disbelief.
Maybe he fears what happened in "Bernice Bobs Her Hair".

His belief (he's admitted to being a believer plenty of times) is grounded in fear, which is one of the manners in which Solomon worshipped God in Ecclesiastes after trying other methods.
I don't believe God sees anything wrong with that sort of humility.

Marvelous interview
A great interview! Being from Louisville, KY, it was interesting to hear Dallas' reference to K. Idleman.
This discussion illuminates a key point in the Christian faith: IT'S A FAITH. Lots of people have used our book and made things. But the Lord is the teacher
Risen is my favourite film about Jesus and the culture of the time.
Has a spiritual and realistic feel without being corny.
one of my favorite scenes in Risen is when Clavius opens the door to the upper room and ......don't want to spoil it for anyone who has not seen it.
A.W. Tozer wrote an essay titled "The menace of the Christian Movie". I never considered how so called Christian movies were in direct conflict with God's prescribed method of preaching the gospel. For those brave enough, please read it.
Thanks. I was unaware of this writing.
I trust he's not trashing the idea of Christian movies IN AND OF ITSELF, just how badly they're usually done. (Read: Hallmark or Lifetime movie with preaching.)
It is better to lead to the question than to lead to the answer
The Chosen is good, but it’s still too Hallmark-like in my opinion. We need a rated R, grounded story of Christ that truly showcases how rough those times were and how brutal the Roman empire was. People seeking the truth are tired of it being sugar-coated and gift wrapped.
see The Passion of the Christ
@@leondbleondbtoo
Much Hollywood in that. Not enough Bible. It’s not about just being realistic. It’s also about presenting the word in a truthful manner.
Also the story of christ isn't about the brutal times (I agree, they certainly were) but a story of salvation. Why focus on the violence?
Not sure if you’ve watched some of the later seasons, but the show seldom “sugar-coats” the tougher themes. You don’t need bloody violence or graphic visuals to tell an emotionally mature story. If you’re into that, go watch Passion of the Christ.
They make these so kids can watch them too. The idea of Jesus being hung on a cross to slowly die is enough. Why does it need to be overly bloody or R-rated. Good story telling doesn’t need to explain and show every detail. It simply needs to give you enough context so that you can fill in the details with your mind.
The gospels just have a different literary structure that the original audience was familiar with. We’re familiar with the structure of a tv show.
Where can we see the full discussion?
There is a disadvantage to the filling of the "gaps" in Jesus' story: while the rest of the story has a clear message, now you can distill your personal ideology in it.
That is a risk.
"I made vignettes, short movies, like one about the thieves beside Jesus on their crosses, it's where I met Jonathan Roumie"
It's hilarious to hear Jonathan tell it.
Amen and Amen
Edit: Upon further reflection, I wish to express my heartfelt and sincere prayer for JP.
Peterson loves the stories in scripture, but he doesn't believe in God or that any of the stories are true.
Jesus? Is that the benevolent zombie who one day will come back from the made up to save you? That will surely happen, good luck with that.
There are no gods. Grow up.
“Adhere to some kind of adherence to” ? I’ve never heard this phrase before, interesting

"Bad Lieutenant" with Havey Kietel is a very effective Christian film.

I agree! Wes is an unbelievable vessel of God
Oh, let's see what we have today ☺️
@tjtampa214 considering his dad wrote the false doctrine left behind series... .
To the one comparing the Chosen to Hallmark:
No way is this series "Hallmark" level.
Hitler then stands at full height, squares his shoulders, turns to Jesus, and spits in his face, saying, "No, I would rather die."
What?

If I'm not mistaken, stories are how we passed on information, long before writing and paper and....

Oh wait, that story has already been told....
Dallas Jenkins sounds like Marlin, the dad fish from "Finding Nemo" 😮❤🐟✝️
“It’s a pretty bad story” referring to Holy Spirit-inspired Scripture. 😮
Had the Holy Spirit thought it necessary for there to be a backstory to the thief on the cross’ experience He would have included it.
He’s not making a Bible, he’s making a miniseries.

Who owns most of the media and Hollywood? That’s why you won’t find well advertised or funded Christian media
I do not recall the '10 Commandments' movie accurately retelling Exodus 32: 9-28.
Kinda weird
Having Christian movies might require a Christian hollywood to make them. Cheers to that idea - some day!

Ti be honest, i thought this conversation would be more like: "Was Jesus crucified on a cross, or on a pole?"
Pretty sure the pronunciation is more like karra-moz-off ???
The lessons here are simple:
1) Be unique
2) Create high-quality content (regardless of budget)
3) Step out in faith to make a difference
He’s done all three.

To be fair, they did put a disclaimer in the beginning.
WHY ONLY NOW ?!

Be natural, have a balance in life
The enjoyment of good cinema requires critical thought and open mindedness, niether of which an ideologue is capable of. Christian films aren't lame because they have been doing 'cinematography' and 'intellectual storytelling' wrong, there are lame because they hold a mirror to the only audience that is remotely interested in watching art that fears stepping outside an ideology. Any other explaination is psuedointellectual COPE.
