    I had shopify and wordpress and I moved to pattern 🤣.. wordpress is fine but shopify it's a little expensive. Especially when you're starting. Since I put pattern.. I sold 30 products in a day. 😃

    I completely agree! Especially about owning your website and not putting all your eggs in one basket. I feel like I say that every day. I personally love, use, and teach WordPress for makers. Never used Shopify but I've heard a lot of good things.

    Well, I have a Shopify, but due to changes on my primary marketing tool like Instagram, my sales have decreased so much that I can no longer afford the almost $400 a year cost. Pattern will be like $120-$150 a year which I feel given my circumstance, is more feasible in order to not only be on someone else's domain (aka solely at the whim of Etsy). I also like the integration because I could not integrate my Etsy shop and Shopify, and as you said managing stock in two places is not necessarily enjoyable or quick. As much as I love my Shopify website and how its designed, with sales decreasing from 120-150 a month to approximately 10-15 a month in the last year, I need more cost effective options. I was interested in Amazon Handmade, but again it's $300-400 a year which I cannot afford to branch out at this time (along with the decrease in sales, I am working in a job where I make $20k less than when I started my shop so the amount of "fun money" I have to funnel into my business has decreased significantly).

    I thought of going this route, but the cost of $15 a month was a little too high, as well as the limited selections for design. Then a question came up: “Could the domain be moved to another site, like Shopify or Wordpress, if I decided to leave? “ So I didn’t transfer my current domain with the thought it might not come back for me to move it and have been (slowly) working on my WordPress site.. Maybe you can clarify? Loved the video. I learned a lot from it.

    • @BexMarie
      @BexMarie 6 років тому +1

      That's a really good question and smart of you to think ahead. I'm not sure if you transfer your domain registration to Etsy, how easy it will be to transfer it back out. I personally keep my domain registrations separate from my website hosting - for risk mitigation purposes. Again not putting all the eggs in 1 basket. I keep my domains at NameCheap and my Hosting is with SiteGround (wordpress site)

    Etsy's website says no transaction fees on Pattern. There is still a payment processing fee, though.

    • @naomietheridge40
      @naomietheridge40 5 років тому +7

      Exactly. You save the 5% fee on all items sold on Pattern. I make all my custom orders Pattern only so that I don't have to pay the 5% fee. Of course, the $15 fee covers that, but you're not paying twice. I'm still paying the 2.9% (country specific) transaction fee. We are all paying at least 8% in fees on Etsy, not just the 5%. But, Pattern's pricing onlynworks for me because my average order spend is about $45 - it might not work for lower priced items. Pattern still has its problems and isn't very professional, but it's a good way to have a standalone website until you have the time to go to Shopify, Squarespace, WordPress, etc.... If you send social media customers to Etsy, you may lose them as all you competitors are easily seen and searched for.

  • @chopsonyou2007

    I am trying to understand, if you do pattern then if someone is looking for your item and they are on Etsy, you can’t have the item click through to your pattern website?
    I was hoping for a situation where someone is looking on Etsy for a “cat mug” they see my cat mug in the Etsy search result and when they click on it they go to my pattern website listing instead of the generic Etsy listing of the item. Can you link to you pattern website from your Etsy listings at all?

  • @NicoSimonPrincely
    @NicoSimonPrincely 4 роки тому +2

    I'm going to trying. It much faster and easier to set up a site that Shopify or the nightmare that is wordpress that get's hacked all of the time, requires hosting, and now had to be ADA compliant where I'm assuming Etsy and Pattern are ADA compliant. I think for me pattern would be a good way to test new traffic sources, because you don't want to send traffic to Etsy or Amazon because you're sending traffic to your competitors. If the traffic sources work on pattern and are profitable enough then building out a shopify, Woo commerce or sales funnel would be the next step.

    Hello Deborah question, If you have a Shopify account and website, can that website be used to sell items on Etsy?

    • @Tizzitco
      @Tizzitco  4 роки тому

      Hi Dale, no, not really. You could in theory somehow use Shopify just for your main pages and redirect people to your Etsy shop to actually purchase your items, but it really defeats the purpose of having your own website and is not what Shopify is meant for.
      If you are not ready for a full e-commerce site (like Shopify), maybe setting up a simple one-page website using a website builder like Wordpress or Squarespace and having a link to your Etsy shop on there is a good in-the-meantime solution.

Does Etsy block sales of handmade products that require LICENSE (examples of T-shirts or masks with the image of Anime....) Does Pattern follow the same laws or does it have no censorship for licensed items? Can anyone give an answer? Thanks.

      Hi, it’s possible the fee structure has changed since this video, make sure to check out help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000337067-Pricing-and-Fees-for-Pattern?segment=selling. Regarding sales going down, not really - you would still have your items on the Etsy marketplace but you are responsible to bring traffic to your pattern website, just like you would for any website built elsewhere (shopify, etc.)

      @@cordeliarobinson5206 That’s a pro! I have Etsy, Shopify, Facebook, and local sales… I spend a lot of time accounting along with filing sales and use reports every month. Time is money. Im thinking about moving it to pattern and routing everyone there. I understand there are fees, but I’m not opposed to building some of that into our prices to get some of my time back… I’m at that point where time is scarce.

    You make some sense but you talk about owning your business. You never own your business with Etsy, eBay, Amazon or any site like that. So what if they decide to close down, change their rules to not suit you, your still out. You did make sense but did you give an option for a WordPress site that will pull in your listings up for you. Also do you have analytical stats to show that having pattern will not help your search rankings on Google. It's all fine to say hey I don't like it. Do you really think you gave a fair appraisal of the site. I have a background as well two of my degrees are computer scientist, yes that is a degree, one being with a major in math. For someone to tell me not to use something because it charges 15.00 dollars does not satisfy me. You have to show me the analytics of all information contained. Are you just posting videos or actually taking care of people.

    • @Tizzitco
      @Tizzitco  5 років тому +1

      Hi Nick and thank you for watching the video and sharing your feedback.
      I am sorry you misunderstood what I was saying when I said "owning your business". We actually agree. I do mean that you never own your business with Etsy, eBay, Amazon and the like. This is something I often talk about and why I like a standalone website. It is also why I think people should grow their email lists rather than relying on audiences on social media. Example: ua-cam.com/video/54D0Xj9wXL0/v-deo.html
      I don't believe I mentioned anything about not being able to rank on Google using Pattern, you can. More info here: help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000336527-Search-Engine-Optimization-SEO-for-Your-Website
      I guess what I am mostly thinking (and feel free to disagree), is that with Pattern you do not get the benefits of Etsy traffic (via Etsy SEO) and you also don't get the level of customisation and features you would get with something like Wordpress or Shopify. A weird in between in my opinion.
      There are advantages though, like managing all your listings (Etsy and pattern) under the same roof.
