    Interesting topic! I think 'natural beauty' has been hyperinfluenced by society. What I always understood as natural beauty, is certain aspects of your physical and mental beauty shining through. Someone can have very piercing, beautiful eyes, or very beautiful hair, or a smile that brightens the world, great eyebrows! Someone can have a kind face, or be a very generous person. I think this is way more helpful to embrace your own beauty... and your own flaws. However, I know what beauty standards ask of us, and I am struggling with my self-esteem as well. It's so hard when you have to be paradoxal: innocent, but sexy. We want you natural, but eww, is that a pimple? We want you to be strong, but not too strong. We want you to be smart, but you should shut up because we don't care about what you have to say. It's tiring, honestly, and it runs deep. Be who you want to be, while allowing others to be themselves too and without hurting them. Our lives are too short to be unhappy in the body we were born in.

    your worries about looking weird in later on because of fillers aren't unfounded at all. we can already see such effects. fillers, particularly in the face (cheeks etc.), migrate within the face. that's why people look puffy all of a sudden. it isn't because their procedures aren't high quality, but because facial fillers will flatten out. the video "why i stopped filling faces" by a professional has great info on this

  • @NuraM444
    @NuraM444 2 роки тому +40

    If you UA-cam search “fillers don’t dissolve they migrate” you’ll see a doctor who advises that fillers can’t dissolve on their own and the filler actually migrates around the face. They did scans on people after 2 years of not having filler and they still had it in their face

    I highly recommend watching Lorry Hill on UA-cam because she breaks down all the procedures that celebrities have. There are quite a few child stars that have gotten procedures done as teenagers well into adulthood. Seeing the progression is pretty eye opening to how curated everything is that we consume with our eyes. I know you make the same statement on your Instagram as well, so I figured you might like her videos.

    Thank you for talking about this!! I was getting lip filler regularly from about 2016-2020. It just kept building up and migrating upwards. Even though I thought my lips would get smaller between sessions, the filler was really just moving from the pink of my lips out of it. My lip line was totally blurred out. Finally last year I’ve gotten my filler dissolved since (3 times!!!), and my lips still are not the same as pre-filler. They swell up in the morning, and from the side my top lip looks a bit droopy and puffy still when it used to be flat pre-filler :/

    Something you said stroke a chord with me.
    You’re not an hypocrite for being nuanced in the way you view and present yourself. We are ever changing, and we don’t have to feel pressured to “pick a side”.
    I’ve decided to stop waxing/shaving when I was 17 because I noticed that body hair brought me shame and impeded me from dressing how I wanted or going to the beach.
    So I forced myself to do it until it actually felt comfortable, and it worked.
    Now, as I’m 22, most of the time I don’t feel like a want to shave, but when I do I no longer treat it as a cause or a moral issue, it’s just how I want to present - sometimes even playing up into a glamorous fantasy.
    I came into that realization yesterday as I’ve noticed that “yeah right now I want to shave my legs” and it just came in as a lighthearted thought which allowed me notice another level of carefree freedom that people in general, but mostly women, are not allowed to have. But we do have the right, gata, we do.

    These lip fillers that dissolve naturally actually last upto 7 years and even though it looks like its dissolved it's actually migrated. And this can be because you've gotten too much filler in your lips e.g. 1ml and more is a lot for a small area like your lips so it will migrate upwards into your face where you can't see it in your lips anymore so you'll go get more filler because you think it's dissolved and you'll get duck lips etc. Where its migrated. I just got 0.5ml last week and i won't be getting anymore because i don't want it to migrate. The woman who did my lips also said it lasts upto 6 years.

    It's so crazy how the body works. Everytime we gain or lose muscle, flexibility, weight in general, or get injured etc., our bodies compensate. Skin stretchs, and the body grows and adapts to function in different ways. Who knows how it will change us in the end?
    I love your comments on everything and your willingness to share. I think you have a pretty healthy view on it all. No one has to be one way (all natural) or the other (campaigning for aesthetic changes), and I think a lot of the arguments go both ways. Just as people can point out that fillers and alterations can cause a distorted self-image, someone can experience dismorphia and self loathing with a natural body (even eating dissorders). I know it's not that simple, but in the end, for those conflicted like myself, I think being mindful and maintining a balance between self-reflection or criticism and self-acceptance is important.
    Some things I like natural for myself and some things I want to change. I've recently started testing laser hair removal and it has been a debate in my mind since I knew laser treatment was a thing. I don't know what the effects will be in 50+ years to be honest. Although I wanted it for so long, it took me years to finally try. I can say now: I am more of a natural girl, but not having a happy trail makes me so happy (ironically). XD
    Love your content! Appreciate your mind! Glad you had a great time in the US and happy belated birthday!!

    This was such a good video with some really relatable points, especially the aspect of having hypocritical opinions on these topics. On the one hand I think people should be able to do what they want as it's their life. Then I also think of the social beauty standards that might force people into doing these things in the first place. I think what's important is checking in on if you are doing things for yourself and your own enjoyment as you mentioned or for others (but then how do we really know ahhh). I do also think about how big the beauty industry is and how it can prey on the insecurities of people in order to sell stuff. So generally I always end up not really knowing where I stand on these things in the end but I think it's really good to talk about and reflect on!

    I totally agree with the feeling of personal conflict when it comes too beauty standards. I often enjoy dressing up and feeling fabulous, but at the same time I try too remember that the way I am naturally (like when I have a lazy day and I might have super greasy hair or something like that) is also totally fine. I personally feel like it can be so easy to get blinded by beauty, trying to be everything and impressing people I don’t even know or care about. So I just wanna say that it is always important to remember that you are more than enough. And talking about this topic is super important. There is nothing wrong with getting fillers or other “fixes” as long as that’s what you want, and you are doing for yourself💕

    They look so much better natural. Not to be mean or anything but lip injections are ALWAYS obvious, it don't matter how little was put. As long as there is a visible difference, you can tell they r fake.
    I think your natural lips look great and suit your face much better.

    Love this! I get 1ml every year/year and a half and that’s has been over the period of about 4 years. The last time I had it done was September 2020 and I’m probably looking at having them done again in the summer but I don’t feel the need to rush! I think as long as you’re sensible and do your research they can look really natural.

    You made some great points about “natural” beauty, over-sexualisation and beauty standards here. Something I struggle to articulate to others. The male gaze perpetuates these systemic issues because many men seem to value “natural beauty” and openly diss women that are “fake”. We shouldn’t feel the need to self censor and appeal to these things but inevitably, it’s tempting since a lot of the time you get better treatment if you are considered “pretty” by social standards. I’m so happy you mentioned this ♥️

    Thank you for this video. I found it interesting even though I’ve never been interested in fillers of any kind, but I do appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the topic of beauty standards in general. I’d really enjoy if you did more videos like this. Maybe one going more into beauty standards and how to feel confident in the age of social media? I’ve been struggling a lot lately with insecurity.. to the point where it’s affecting every area of my life to a crazy and unhealthy degree. I know that comparing is bad, but I still find myself doing it a lot these days. Not so much to the typical Instagram model kind, but just to other women in general who I wouldn’t call “fake” but I just feel they’re so much more beautiful than me. I like what you said about natural beauty because I often feel I wasn’t blessed with that, meanwhile a lot of the women I follow have been. I’m really wanting to find a way to get out of this mindset and be happy with myself, but it’s a struggle. I find you such an inspiration and would love to hear your thoughts on this kind of thing. 💗

    My take on this is that most of the times people get fillers in the wrong mindset. I believe that you should already love yourself just the way you are before getting the fillers. Otherwise, you just try to hide your insecurity and this can get pretty toxic. It's really important that you have accomplished a healthy relationship with your body first.

    Thank you for opening up and sharing your thoughts on fillers. Your concerns are justified though, as things can go downhill very fast when fillers clog important vessels in your face. There are cases where parts of the forehad and even the nose decayed because the filler prevented blood circulation. And I want to add that fillers dont just go away with time. The product actually moves to other places in your face so you end up thinking that your body broke down the filler. I highly recommend watching the video "How long do dermal fillers really last? MRI scans provide evidence." from the channel Victorian Cosmetic Institute. Dr. Chan is being very honest on that topic which most doctors wont. I personally dont judge fillers and cosmetic surgeries, but I think it can be dangerous for especially young people who follow a hype without being aware of the consequences or possible risks - just to chase the modern beauty standards

  • @TheMissCherry13
    @TheMissCherry13 2 роки тому +2

    The pressure to get fillers is real. I have naturally cute lips (in my opinion), but since the pandemic and the consumption of social media, I started to think about getting lip filler regularly, I even made an appointment (that then I canceled). I just came to the conclusion that I really love my lips and I love the look I get when I line them and put on lipstick. Since wearing a mask all the freaking time, I'm not using that much makeup anymore (something that's makes me feel beautiful and it's temporary). So, to sum up, think it twice before doing something to your body and do your research, and maybe ask yourself: "was I comfortable with my X before social media?".

  • @AnneleenRoesems
    @AnneleenRoesems 2 роки тому +2

    This is a very interesting video, you're thoughts are very nuanced and I liked the way you approached this topic!
    The thing about beauty standards is that they change and I feel like in our lifetime, there will be periods of time when you are one of the lucky ones and some periods you will be one of the unlucky ones. In the 2000s, it you had a flat stomach, you would be lucky. But now people don't really care about that as much as they do about having curves "in all the right places". So I guess why I personally wouldn't to do cosmetic surgery is because I might end up changing something about myself that might be the thing everyone is after a few years later. But then again, that phase might only last a few years. It's all just very complicated and I guess there is no right answer to any of it!

  • @roxxyfoxify
    @roxxyfoxify 2 роки тому +11

    I personally just can’t stand the look of lip fillers. To me it’s always obvious when someone has naturally large lips vs. filled lips. On a face that has naturally small lips, filled fake lips just look so wrong, and usually quite painful. The sad thing is that beautiful girls are messing with their faces and I do believe it breeds insecurity. In my opinion, your natural lips look much better and the fake lips take over your whole face. Like just a huge pair of lips and you can’t see anything else. It’s a good thing you have the self awareness and discipline to not get carried away.

    • @roxxyfoxify
      @roxxyfoxify 2 роки тому +5

      And because this seems like a pretty open space for discussion on the topic, I want to add some more. If I’m being totally honest, I do think that the general mindset towards fillers and plastic surgery online is riddled with toxic positivity. Saying “your natural face is beautiful and your face with filler is beautiful. It’s all beautiful!” to me is borderline dangerous. I think we can be too accepting of things that are downright mentally damaging. Like how I said earlier that it breeds insecurity. Most of the time, swollen fake lips and injected faces are NOT more beautiful than their natural faces. It looks awful. I’m not afraid of saying that because I know that it’s both mentally and physically unhealthy. I’ve seen some really pretty girls destroy their faces and begin to look scary. I know that beauty is subjective but I think there’s some innate human ability to spot fakeness in the face (like, fake lips and over the top Botox). I also just want to add that you really don’t need Botox in your 20s or 30s! “Preventative” Botox is a scam. Sorry, this was a total rant but I never see any places to share this opinion.

    • @IsabellaDemarko
      @IsabellaDemarko  2 роки тому +4

      Yeah I get you. The interesting thing is, many people want the fake look over a natural look. The ‘fake’ look has become somewhat of an aesthetic. Bimbofication as an extreme example. So I think there is a line between people getting fillers to get the ‘filler look’, and people getting fillers to look ‘more beautiful’ (but perhaps accidentally achieving the opposite.) One of the biggest reasons this topic is problematic and confusing is when we misinterpret or assume people’s intentions for getting them.

    • @roxxyfoxify
      @roxxyfoxify 2 роки тому +1

      @@IsabellaDemarko Definitely a good point and I think that segues into an even more difficult topic, about whether or not people should be allowed to do whatever with plastic surgery. On one hand, I feel like people should have authority over their own bodies to make their own choices (I am extremely pro-choice for this reason). Then on the other hand… I also feel like doctors are profiting over (mentally) sick people. I can’t help but think that those who want to alter their bodies to the extreme with surgery are not mentally well. Michael Jackson is a good example. My mother always said “the doctors shouldn’t have allowed that” because in the end, it killed him. I know these are extreme examples but it makes you wonder to what extent this should go.

    I appreciate your honest discussion!
    I'm with you about being conflicted.
    Like if I'm being completely honest, I'm not a fan. Plastic surgery is expensive, painful, potentially dangerous, and makes people end up looking the same. But then I think about how most modern plastic surgery is based in reconstructing the faces of soldiers, which I do think is important, Helping someone feel more normal after trauma is huge. And then I remember there are a lot of people who get plastic surgery to combat body dysmorphia, and that's important. So I circle back around to say like, who am I to judge if someone has a morally good enough reason to get plastic surgery? If the technology is available and people want to do it there shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's safe and fully that person's choice. And it's not an individual thing either, no one person getting plastic surgery is doing something morally wrong. It's our cultures fault for creating unrealistic beauty standards.

    Thanks for talking about this subject as you're making quite an interesting point.
    I'm actually quite in between concerning plastic surgery/fillers. I can get why some people do it as well as why some don't. I am not for any extreme way whether it's about having a lot of surgery done to ourselves or being completely agaisnt it.
    I'm 22 so exactly in the generation you're talking about. It's true that we have few to none models that aged doing plastic surgery while being younger. I do think that since it's an invasive type of surgery and it's quite expensive, it should not be done without thinking about it carefully. And the addictive part should be taken in consideration. However, if all that is considered, I don't mind people doing it.
    I also don't really get the whole point of "beauty is being natural", come on... We dress up everyday, we wear glasses or have surgery to not wear them, we straighten our teeth, put products on our face to have less acne or whatever.... There''s nothing purely natural in all we're doing everyday, why this would be more problematic than anything else we put everyday on and in our body. Plus I'm not sure this is the right argument to convince someone not to do plastic surgery... So yeah, quite in between 😅

    Your video is so refreshing! I find the way fillers are popular nowadays sad and almost frustrating. I don't think you are hypocrite at all, just divided.
    Have you seen the video of Victorian cosmetic institute on fillers? A doctor talks a bit about what happens to them with time.

    Thank you for making this video💗 I think your experience is a really great message for younger audiences. This is such an important topic and I think you discuss the nuance of this topic well.
    Also, Jordan Theresa has a great video debating about if plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures are feminist, and brings up a lot of the same points you do if you want to check that out.

    Personally, I think the risk of future deformities etc come from excessive use. Having it topped up every 6 months for years on end probably is pushing it. I think your approach of having it completely dissolve then waiting extra time on top is both mentally and physically best. It’s kinda like the same approach to junk food. Moderation is key!

  • @FourThousandMilesTogether

    I respect what anyone wants to do with their own body. Period. But I reason I don’t like it is it adds to the issue of unachievable beauty standards. It sets the younger generation and other people around us up for unachievable looks. And you can’t click a screen and see it’s a filter like on Instagram. So people think they’re naturally “ugly” or “don’t fit in” when really it’s all just fake. I wish we could all take a year to be completely natural; all of us. And see how many people actually go back to it (obvs that like something out of a sci-fi movie lol but I can dream). I don’t even dye my hair anymore and live almost completely naturally beauty wise but then again, I had braces and recently began re-aligning them again after they moved. I guess that’s adding to that unachievable “natural” standard too!

    This video is so on point! Couldn't agree more - there is no way that a procedure like that done every six months over time won't change your face. I want to age gracefully and naturally while getting things done here and there, too (botox seems safer over time until we know more about how fillers age). Haven't gotten anything yet, but I'm not against it and will generally try to avoid it.

    I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks lip fillers on people look painful? When I see people with lip filler, I just can't help but think "ouch, please don't smile, your lips will explode" :s Also I hope people are aware that lip filler moves around eventually so do get it disolved properly before putting more in. You might see people with faces that get larger over time, and some of that is due to filler not being disolved properly before topping up on more.

    I feel like Dolly Parton might be a good person to look at in terms of having had cosmetic proceedures done quite early on? I might be wrong though. Good topic to discuss tho.
    If you'd like to preserve your beauty as your grandma did I would ask her for her beauty rituals and things she'd recomment. It is very unlikely that other cosmetic procedures are gonna do the same.

I'll be honest in high school people cared alot even though we had uniforms they still woke up at 5 to straighten their hair and do make up and stuff but now when I'm working people come in as they are and if someone is more dressed up or undressed then others noone would ever make any comment. Think I was more afraid of people bullying me for it but the adult world is bit different obviously depending on specific individuals. I always try to lead by example for younger cousins or any future kids. If you do anything they will ask if they can do it too and new generation are alot more forceful in getting what they want now as discipline is out the window

    I think this a great topic. I am personally against plastic surgery/fillers. I just think they make women look inhuman, people that were so naturally beautiful it has destroyed their beauty. I think fillers are a gateway to full-on on surgery warning should be Katie Price. Don't waste your money we're all naturally beautiful, some people will find you attractive some won't that's just part of life. You don't know what damage you are doing to your body/health with fillers. The imperfections actually make people look beautiful another example is Cameron Diaz look at her before and after surgery. Unfortunately for young women your insecurities are being played with. You've got to have thick lips, tiny waist, big backside etc etc. Don't do it, it's not worth it.

    I think it's really good if you can love yourself for who you are. It's sad when people can't and I get why but it's really good to be able to love yourself for who you are when you can. I've had braces and that made me feel better about myself BUT I am glad that I only did that for me and not because of bullying and I have to admit I would never of been able to accept myself without the braces which must be really hard for pple who want lip filler because there is a lot more risks for them compared to braces :/

    Nice topic. I was 33 when i did my thin upperlip with 0,5. Ml. I am just thinking about a few generation back, people got grey hair and didnt dy it. And now its normal to dy gray hair...we never say like stay natural! Its normalised. I think that s the same now with fillers and botox. I am 39 now and only do my lips like every 2 years, also got them desolved 1 time t make shure. I didnt get botox because i am afraid i look to plastic but that is my personal fear. I am also afraid i get blind for to much.... for my generation its hard to understaind why someone under 35 would use botox...

    For me, I think people are most beautiful as their natural selves. Only because as people start to look so similar to other people getting the same procedures, they don’t look unique anymore.

  • @rafaelleduarte
    @rafaelleduarte 2 роки тому

    Regarding lip fillers, facial fillers and body fillers, the ultimate problem I see is that a massive number of people seem to overpass the line and exaggerate in the procedures. To exemplify, I'm going to mention Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner and Madonna. Ariana Grande had a super lovely face before the lip procedures, and now the most noteceable thing in her face is her faulse and massive pair of lips. Kylie Jenner was considerably beautiful without the lip and facial comestic procedures, and she would look super gorgeous if she had opted for a sort of minimum change in her pair of lips in order to make them a bit plumped. When it comes to Madonna, she ruined any chance of looking extremely good as an old lady with the amout of cosmetic procedures she has faced in order to force a younger look. I'm 100% fan of the real natural face, but my opinion upon cosmetic changes that people do to their bodies is that they only are successful when they fit the natural proportions of the body and face, changing them very slightly and elegantly.

  • @verina_crochet_garden

    It does not dissolve completly, some filler is left that moves to the sides and downwards and stays there.
    So people need to first get a injection that dissolves the filler and afterwards get a new filler.
    If they don't the face over years changes and I believe starts to look swollen and puffy aka not good young and healthy.
    I saw this information in a yt video btw and the person quoted a doctor who used radiation pictures and noticed that some filler still remaines after some years.
