Thank you so much for this! This is just what I needed!
I do overhead craft videos and made a similar setup, but using a dodgy Neewer mic arm and ball joint. Over 2 years it now sags and no longer holds up even my tiny apsc camera. I'm keen to upgrade. Do you think the PSA or the Blue Compass is your favourite for a camera now? Would the Manfrotto ball head fit directly into the Blue Compass like that?
Also, before you drill into your walls, have you thought about connecting your boom arm setup to a separate stand? I was getting lots of wobbles in my footage, as my desk is not sturdy. So I took the camera arm off my desk and attached it to a wheely stand normally used for lighting. It no longer touches my desk so doesn't wobble with everything I do, I can also wheel it around the house and create overhead shots anywhere. It still wobbles when I change angles, but I just lightly touch it until it settles, and that's easy to edit out. I got the idea here...

Anyway, thanks again for sharing your setup!

      Hello Sam,
Since this video I've upgraded twice. I started using the Rode PSA1+ which seems studier, however mic arms aren't really designed for this obviously and it won't hold the weight of my GH5 but will the GH4, so camera weight is key here.
I'm now using this, which is a lot more money but stable, and adjustable in several ways:

You do need C stands or light stands to support it, but it's been great so far
      amzn.to/3MviDs0
I need to do a video on it soon as it's great for my use. You can hang several cameras from it or cameras, lights, mics and because it's not touching the desk it's much more stable and nothing needs to be drilled into the walls or ceiling.

Oh that looks like a great total solution!
Thanks for the advice about the PSA1+, I've just ordered it and the manfrotto ballhead. I'm thinking it should be fine for my Sony ZV E10.
      Cheers!

Maybe you can get a wing grip knob to replace that screw to get easier access to loosening/tightening without a screwdriver.
Oh, 30 seconds later it's perfectly balanced without any adjustments. Never mind. lol
So what does a cameraperson do to get shots like this? Big rigs with gurneys and stabalizers? I wonder how to replicate that on a desktop.

There are so many different bits of equipment potentially. Gimbals are a solid fave. I had one but didn't use it enough due to space limitations. so the arm is more for static shots but from a variety of angles to keep things interesting
