Is Jomtien a good place to live? Does Jomtien Beach offer expats enough to retire in Thailand?

- I've stayed in Pattaya for 9 nights now. Spent an hour each morning walking along Beach Road which is a great start to the day. I was about to head straight to Bangkok, but decided instead to head to Jomtien Beach where a lot of expats choose to retire. Could I live here?
Is Thailand a good country for expats to live or retire to? Is Pattaya a good place to live? Low cost of living, diversity, culture, weather, food and scenery entice foreigners to live in Thailand. Pattaya is a great spot by the sea. Thailand is regarded as the "land of smiles" with Thais being welcome and warm people. Could you live here?

I live in the condo complex where the ladies unloaded the TV: 10th floor, 2br, ocean view, 60 s/m. B11,000/m on a 1 year contract. Older building but well maintained with a lot of facilities and restaurants on the ground level. Been there 2 years and quite content. I don't really like the Jomtien Bar scene, mostly beer bars, many targeted at particular nationalities. Most of the staff are older than you see in Pattaya but there are a few younger ones.
There is a huge restaurant variety with most popular ethnic variations and generally very reasonable prices. Mostly older expats, many with older Thai wives or gf's.
Huge Russian presence. The night markets are 90% Russian clientele but while you hear a lot of winging about them, I've personally never had any kind of issue with a Russian.
Jomtien, post-covid has become a hugely popular weekend destination for Thais from Bangkok and the industrial corridor. Both Beach and 2nd Rd can get very congested weekends, especially 3 day weekends
The Pratumnak Hill area is distinct from Jomtien Beach. Lots of condos and restaurants. Downside is no Baht Bus service so getting around is less convenient but it's a worthwhile area to check out.
Jomtien Beach is a great place for my 70 year old self. Not really a lot to do but once one learns the in's and out's of doing nothing, it's quite nice.
Thanks for yr comments David. I'm not a fan of the girly bars either, but I'm glad yr content there. Did you try any other areas of Thailand or other countries b4 settling in Jomtien?
I lived in Bangkok 10 years. I have also lived for year long stints in Isan, Phuket and the Philippines. Terrible infrastructure and lack of skilled and affordable healthcare make the Phils a "no-go" for me.@@BiggWorldCinema
Do u know of any pet friendly condos in the jomtien area?
A friend rented a Condo at TROPICAL GARDEN Condo on Pratumnak-4 that allowed cats and small dogs. Most of the View Talay's and my condo do not allow animals of any kind.@@Curtis-xk4dd
I’ve been to about 50 countries, for an older man like me now 71 the Jomtien/Pratanmak areas suits me just fine, been here 4 years now. Have spent sometime in all the SE Asian countries, all have pros and cons! Having a motorbike and car, is a great advantage too imo! The only other place in the world that can compare, as regards a beach by the city, would be Rio de Janeiro, especially Ipanema beach, but it’s far more expensive and the locals don’t speak much English! I found the local people in Cuba very friendly and liked to invite me at the beach to eat food together, I can speak a little Spanish! Can’t believe you hardly got any Thai lady’s smiling at you, I get in constant trouble with my Thai girlfriend when other attractive Thai ladies smile at me, she gets very jealous! I guess for me if it wasn’t for having a loving Thai girlfriend for the last four years, I had to ditch my Filipina girlfriend, as my flights were cancelled because of the virus and in the end decided to stay in Thailand!
Hey BWC! I haven't been to ur channel in a while. You look great sporting that short cut & cleaner trimmed beard growth! Now just work on a more hip eyeglasses frame. Then head back to the Philippines. You'll be unstoppable, man!!
I have to agree with your comment about Filipinas being allergic to working out or walking anywhere.
Btw if you want Thai women to smile you need to spend money on her first which is the Esan culture. Doesn’t matter if you are young handsome. They don’t care, it’s all about money in this culture
or give them money to start there own business and own there own money which I did . I live happy in Isan with my thai woman and our 10 years boy .
Phuket is good with nice beaches and clear water. It has island vibe and city vibe🎉🎉🎉
Yeah. I like Phuket. You experienced the bizarre Vegetarian Festival?
I get what you're saying about a tourist vibe, but what do you want to do with your time when you do find the perfect spot? Apart from the beach, bars, restaurants etc, I think everyone needs a hobby. In my opinion, Filipinos are the friendliest people in the world, and the interactions are priceless, even if the Philippines isn't perfect. For me, I just wish it wasn't in the Ring of Fire, but so many advantages in the Philippines too, like the visa and English being widely spoken. Thai women are probably more beautiful in general and they keep their looks longer than Filipinas, but there's a slight coldness or something I can't quite put my finger on... they are into money and not as trustworthy as a good Filipina. Thailand is a bit cheaper and better infrastructure. I see a lot of guys go to the Philippines and find a woman, then settle in Thailand. Best of both worlds.... but then again, staying single and free could be a better choice. It's just so hard to know!
“The perfect beach destination to live,” Philip? It’s not in Asia: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. One day you ought to check it out!
How are you liking your hotel/rooms on this leg of your trip...🤔 So, give us a review of your stay over the past 9 days. I notice you don't eat on the beach... Nice background music.
Enjoy😊
it doesnt look too much different from here in Mexico, just less garbage on the streets. and with the prices there being about half of here I am getting quite tempted to go! been watching y our channel as well as William Taudien's who is also there at the moment. cheers for the great content!
What part or Mexico are you in?
Yes it’s true this area is similar to Mexico at half of the price
This is Ruslan here. You can see me work out at 17:56 and I look good in my oversized speedo. Next time I wear smaller one perhaps comrade?
Da tavorich! 😂
What I liked about Jomtien Beach was it was quick and easy to get to Suva airport and I could rent a nice little flat for $700/month. I lived quite comfortably there for 2 months at the Seven Seas.
I stayed in jomtien for a week, didn't really get to know the place, kept heading back to beach road
Enjoyed phuket and krabi though
Hope to be back very soon😎
As i dont drink coffee, it could be hard for long term, but nice for some rest and relaxation.
Did you try miami? Or Rio? Barca also a city by the sea... Oh and Benidorm! 😂
Love the running gags, keep em coming..
I love Miami although only visited once. Don't trust safety in Rio. Been to Barca and Benidorm many times and wouldn't live in either. Too many Brits in the latter. My sister has a place in Alicante which I don't rate. Too barren. Where's yr favourite place?
I think I am still trying to find my favorite place. I do love Asia, but enjoy parts of Spain, Greece, Italy and Croatia too. Never been to the US, but it looks nice in parts.@@BiggWorldCinema
Keep vlogs to 15 mins.Good background music in this one.
Why 15 mins? Many successful vloggers I follow swear by 20/25 mins.
Nice vlog Philip but please stop the moaning and groaning.
If you want the female smiling learn some thai and give them a laugh.
Life does not always fall at your feet.😊
Hey, thank you for turning me on to William Taudien. He’s in your location too.
What are you looking for in Thailand?
Yeah, William's great! I need his income so I can stay in places with rooftop pools.
Still searching for the perfect spot as usual...... where's yours?
Good day ! Thank you .
live in Bangkok and travel to beach weekend.
Also from Koh Chang you could go see ankor Wat its 8 hour bus ride from there.
People come to Jomtien for a more laid back beach vibe then downtown pattay a ten minute ride from Jomtien if you need more action well there it is...
A shaved Bigg would be easier on the eyes and probably lead to a bump in subscribers.
Not that I expect Bigg will give a flying flamingo about this suggestion!
He always seems to find distressed hotels too. That’s the Cheap Charlie lifestyle
@@davidbush131 yes. It seems like most of the Phils bloggers are financially challenged.
"Financially challenged." Interesting.
@@BiggWorldCinema hey. Im sitting in the lobby of the Seda Ayala Center as I write this. Im here for a month. Thanks for the HSBC no withdrawal tip the other day.
Yes. A dearth of finances means an inordinate amount of time is spent looking for deals instead of having fun
You should go to Koh Chang from there bus 5 hours, stay at my friends resort elephant and castle, his name John from UK married to Lan who is Thai, he is quite the character.
Subscribed Uncle😅
The Philippines doesn't have many foreign tourists. when they see you So they invite you to join them. In some areas of Thailand there will be people inviting you as well. There aren't many foreign tourists in that area. And not calling you rubber means giving yourself space rather than interfering with you.
I love your opinion on Chelsea, be grateful you don't support Man Utd like me, absolutely awful
Ha! Before I left the UK 4 years ago - my mate took me regularly to watch Brighton whose style of play was great under Potter (not so much Poyet and Hughton) and even more so now! Where you based?
@@BiggWorldCinema I'm in Cebu for a month, then maybe Manila week, like you I love travel, but I do 6 months UK, 6 months travel, hopefully I can buy you a beer one day if our paths cross.
Minute 15.57 is in front of my condo. The atmosphere is very good. In the evening you can see a very big sunset and there is a sea breeze as well as a beautiful park. and a large swimming pool and gym. Complete with sauna room, Thai massage shop, restaurant, library, living room and automatic beverage dispenser inside. 😊🌅🌄🏙
Thailand is cleaner than the Philippines, they also have a better infrastructure
Try Da Nang Vietnam, a big
sprawling city by the sea and a river, My an beach area is best.
Thanks, I was in Vietnam last March. Never rained all month. I liked Da Nang if you watch the videos I shot there.
👍👍👍
I could stay a week or 2 in Jomtien after that i would start to get bored.
My thoughts entirely. Where's yr favourite destination?
even with its various issues, i would take PH over Thailand just for the interactions
Again, you're summising one of my upcoming videos Johnny. I imagine you'll be wanting shares in my empire.
ill buy you a beer if i am where you are later this year @@BiggWorldCinema
6 seven eleven on the bathbus route
Which country would you say has the better looking women between Thailand and Ph?
Thailand easily. Better genes and keep their looks longer than Filipinas. But hard to trust.
@@BiggWorldCinema Agree, while I've never been to Ph I have watched several walking videos on youtube in Manila etc and never found the women to be as good looking as the Thai's. And you're right about the character of the Thai women, greed at the end of the day.
I'm a writer. I need a chair and my laptop. But I will move back to Chiang Mai asap. Too many farang here, no history or culture beyond day drinking.
The best part about the air conditioners at your window is the hot air they’ll blow directly at you from the condensers😂
"It's more fun in the Philippines"!
Your favorite team is probably playing casually for fear of sudden heart failure. If I was a coach right now, I'd want my players to take it easy. Who wants to watch your player suddenly drop dead
Trip hazards ? Try walking around Havana . . It's like Berlin at the end of the war , 😂
Had to turn off after 5 minutes. Really boring video, poor quality picture, delivery repetitive and a drawn out drool commentary. Sorry
Did your mum help you type that?
You can swim in Jomtien , you can't swim in Pattaya. Girls are everywhere in Thailand . 😂
re being invisible, may be move your ring to a different finger, as you probably know some parts of the world use its current position to signify marriage.
Another nobody who wants to change the world.
Did your mum help you type that?
Jomtien: Gay Central
Where is your favorite spot? I'm still researching my retirement locations but I think I've wittled it down to two albeit very different locations.
I'm stuck between Jomtien Thailand or Dumaguete Phillipines. I suppose I'll just have to try a few months in each.
No. No. No. Both are overrated. Please consider elsewhere.
Any recommendations? Have you tried any of the Islands like koh tao or koh samui?@@BiggWorldCinema
