    Awesome video!
Fixed Fire pumps for sprinkler systems are not allowed to have mechanical seals on split case pumps.
Compression packing is the only acceptable seal.

Your series of videos quickly encapsulates what it took me 70 years to learn piece meal. Educational institutions were too busy teaching socialism to be of any real use. Keep up the good work.

Your channel is friggin' awesome! Other people besides the tech minded can learn from this.
Your audio is normalized and level throughout the entire video.
Your usage of graphics and selection of screen text is spot on.
The cutout models you use are modified very clean and nice.
Your delivery of information covers the fine details of what is truly relevant and omits that level of TMI that can make a persons eyes glaze over and their mind to temporarily shut down.
The length of the vids are just right.
The choice of topics may not always sound exciting, but there are many things I learn from each video.
I'd love to see this channel in a years time with a shitload of videos and buttload of interactive subscribers.
Keep surprising me with the topics - you quickly became one of my favorite tech channels!

Another great video! I'm a mechanic servicing the fishing fleet in my home town in Alaska and just got home from a job repacking the stuffing box on a 52" seiner. 5 1/2" shaft with 3/4" packing. I saw the video and had to watch. This channel has been frequently serendipitous with my activities like that. Thanks Machine Tech Video Blog! I also loved the Case Hardening video.

Yeah, I wondered about that. They do an excellent job. I think having the facilities of a Technical College shows in the quality of the videos. They seem to do a good job at this school.
Perhaps Google's "algorithm" takes that into account, that this channel is associated with an institution, and Google may choose to give precedence to a person working out of their shop.
      Consider this:
Which is more entertaining? Watching Adam do a very professional, and very good job explaining things as a Teacher, at a Technical College, or watching a guy like +AvE break stuff?

Again great video with excellent visual aids, should be noted new packing shouldn't be tighten significantly initially and once the pump is in operation that packing adjustments have to be made in small increments over a period of time. If the pump is operating at any speed (hundreds of RPM) it is very easy to over tighten the packing. The stuffing box will over heat and in extreme cases if driven by an electric motor the pump can cause the motor to draw excessive amperage.

The rudder shaft can simply be extended above the water line and require no sealing at all. A better example is the propeller shaft, which must be installed near horizontally and it is impractical to extend it above the water line.
