My theory is that Adeline is still alive and trapped under the old iron bridge. The reason she only talked to the engines who had broken down was because she heard their voices and wanted to see if someone was there. The person who told the radio was one of Adeline's old crew members.
@@agentandrews5737 Uhh Adam, I think You and tencents6 are forgetting something, it is said that Adeline died before she came to the SKR, So now she's become a Friendly Ghost, And the SKR Engines are the only ones who can see her (Except for Atlas and his Crew).

My best guess is that "goose" is Percy. We know from "Duncan Gets Spooked" that he would deliver trucks to Crovan's Gate now and again. Plus, he was the one that told a Ghost Story to Thomas in 1971, he's likely to have believed in the ghost because he was "kinda" on the scene of Adeline's death.
But that raises another question. If Goose turns out to be Percy and he heard about the ghost story via the movie, who would have thought to have told a movie crew about Adeline's death?
I've heard that the MOD used a somewhat, 'Beetle-like' engine to move their munitions and equipment round the depot..., but I never thought you'd make him a reality; he's quite the surprise!
Another great installment! I smirked so hard when the Tugs plug was dropped. Great to see the electric engines of the MOD represented. Can't wait to see the rest!😁😁
Based on characters who can keep a secret, I'd say Goose has to either be Edward or Duck. We did see Edward in the shot of Sir Handel talking to Henry, so he may have overheard them talking. Duck would also be a possible idea, considering his name. Adeline was code named swan, but most swans I've seen aren't bright red, so it can't be based on livery unless adeline had a white/gray one before. Another possibility could be Donald, though i only have his connection to Dilly as a weak link. My best Guess is still Edward or Duck, as the two of them seem the most likely to be able to keep a secret. Edward more than Duck, as his age and experience would make him quite responsible. Edit: Also using the 007 clue, it could be toby. It can't be one of the mainline engines, as we know none of them knew the codename. It has to be a locomotive from a branchline or a works engine of sorts. The MOD would likely have either shipped their materials overland or from a port. Toby, Thomas, Percy, Oliver and Sheffield all have too low water capacity to be able to make it from the west of sodor to the SKR without stopping for water. You'd need to get those shipments delivered as soon as possible, and constant water stops would hinder that. I think Duck could just barely manage, but it would be a stretch. Donald and Douglas are known to travel wherever needed on the island, eg: the little western, Edward's branch line, or the mainline when needed, but as they are usually found on the west of Sodor I'm hesitant to choose them. Edward and Boco are my strongest guesses, as they are based closer than most any other of the main engines to the skr, seeing as Edward's branchline is located mid west on sodor rather than just west. Boco might work considering he would have minimal chance of giving off sparks, and would be quieter. But if we also consider the Events of Edward's Exploit, the MOD could have approached the old engine at the works to deliver supplies. Seeing as his branchline ends at a major port, he is located mostly in mid-western sodor, and his experience and larger travel range, i think Edward was Goose. Edit 2: after doing some further research, I've noticed a few things: -the skr sold the quarry to the MOD in 1960. Boco didn't arrive until 1965, so he's out. -Edward had his exploit later that year, and would have been at the works for a while around that time. -Duke was discovered in 1969, and Adeline had her accident a few months before that. -After his encounter with Diesel, Duck worked on the mainline till 1967 when he got his branchline. Now unless Duck continued to deliver these trains after he got his branchline, that leaves 2 years of deliveries for the MOD unaccounted for until Adeline's accident. This leaves only 3 engines: Edward, Donald and Douglas. Douglas is actually a strong candidate. Remember when Douglas went to the other railway with the night Goods? Thats when he found Oliver. What if his night goods trains were MOD trains? Therefore, only engines on the nwr between 1960 and 1969 could have worked for the MOD. They also must have decent water and fuel capacity. They can't be a normal mainline engine, atleast not in the modern day roster. I'm convinced it's either Donald, Douglas, or Edward.
AND I feel that Iris is also out as well. We need an engine who is freely able to bring munitions in and out of the island starting in the early 1960's. Iris was built in 1965, and would have been kept so busy that she most likely wouldn't have the time to make deliveries to sodor unless she worked near barrow. Iris may know the engine who collected the munitions however.
The revelation of code names deepens the mystery and it is great that we can finally meet the Ministry of Defense engine. I like the touch that he has an actual military rank. I'm also absolutely tickled at the references to the infamous TUGS episode of the same name and the James Bond refences.
I loved this episode! Can't wait for next week. In the meantime, I've been thinking about Goose. I'm thinking it might be either Thomas, Edward, or Duck.
It can't be Thomas. He's smaller than Duck so would be unreliable for the MOD trains. Considering the year dates, my guess is Douglas, considering when he found Oliver.
My guess for who Goose is Douglas, considering him and Donald are very trustworthy and smart candidates when it comes to jobs for the MOD, maybe the Midnight Goods Douglas use to pull had supplies for the MOD or something like that, which would give him clearance to take their trains and to know what happened to Adeline
Here's the clues I've deduced from the episode thus far: - None of the Mainline engines know anything, James had no idea when asked - Goose is referred to as 'He' - Goose is standard gauge - Geese are 'Loud, brash birds that make a honking noise' - Had to have been on the Island in the early - mid 60s - WNW on twitter said that Donald only has a cameo appearance Here's a list of possibilities that were drawn up in the discussion following the episode's release: Duck was brought up due to the name alone, however I beilive personally that he's too obvious Douglas due to his frequent allocation to the Midnight Goods trains, leading to his finding of Oliver Boco was a consideration due to the connection of Geese honking, but hadn't arrived on the island until 1965 Percy I then realised could be a suspect due to the fact he's not unfamiliar to Ghost Stories and pranks involving them
Here's how I think Peter Sam and James' talk went: Peter Sam: James, there is something I wish to talk to you about. James: Okay, sure, what is it? Peter Sam: Well, the engine down at the MoD part of the quarry is Corporal Harris. James: What?! I thought he was a person! Peter Sam: That's what the rest of us assumed too. He also told us about something interesting regarding code names. James: Code names? Oh, more 'confidential military' stuff they like to blab on about? Peter Sam: Yes. Harris said his code name was Raven and that Adeline's was Swan... (his eyes start growing misty) James: ... she was a great friend to you all, wasn't she? Peter Sam: You can say that again. (sigh): Anyway, the last codename he told us was 'Goose'. We don't know who that is, and, well... my first guess was... you. James: Me?! Why on earth would you think I was 'Goose'? Peter Sam: Oh, so it wasn't you then? James: Kuh! No way! I can't imagine a less fitting code name for me! Peter Sam: Oh... sorry... I guess I'll keep looking.
Man, what an episode. I really like Harris, very hasty he is. But I do have to wonder, could goose be Duck? That might make sense with his whole bird thing. It might also be Peter. I know he was put in a tunnel in 1966, so he COULD have done work for the MOD before hand. Really interesting stuff, can’t wait for the next one.
If Adeline is found and rescued, I have a feeling that she will be restored and be renumbered as SKR engine no. 11. After all, Peter and lily became NWR numbers 15 and 16 respectively when they were found and restored.
What i mean is, Adeline died before she came to he SKR, She she came to SKR as a Ghost, And now she's trying to trick everyone by thinking that she had an accident on the Old Iron Bridge. And i know Rheneas saw she had no crew in her cab. So my theory is that Adeline's crew are ghosts too. And they were testing her to she how well she can move by herself (due to her being a Ghost), And after Adeline past Rheneas, She became invisible and caused an invisible explosion (Possibly how she died before coming to the SKR As a Ghost) And made everyone think she had an accident on the Old Iron Bridge, And now she's tricking others (Including Atlas) by becoming invisible and Making everyone think she's in trouble by calling for help.
@@billyjudd3326 wester doesn’t incorporate anything supernatural into his stories. So your theory is rather terrible. The more likely scenario is that Adeline was buried alive.
Peter was by 1968 sealed up in the Ballahoo Tunnel so I doubt it would be him unless he can teleport out of the tunnel to move stuff for them and then disappear back inside.
This is just a wild guess but I might be onto something. Since the operations around the base were purely MoD, this means that only a locomotive of wartime construction could be the mysterious "Goose", as even in the 1960s, the MoD did still have locomotives of that category still in their books (Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0STs like Sheffield, WD 2-8-0s and 2-10-0s). It has to one of them.
I've got 3 ideas who "Goose" could be: (Potential spoilers inbound) The potential 3 I have in mind. Duck: Obvious name relation, but could be a red herring from WNW, like James was. Iris: She worked at a munitions factory (Potentially her bringing the munitions from her plant to Crovan's Gate) , So She would likely have MOD clearance. Also her being a diesel, relating to the honking that Peter Sam thought about. She’s quite stubborn too, like a goose. Caden: The least likely in my eyes, because no MOD clearance, But him being from barrow, a diesel, and being argumentative make sense for him being a "goose". Also,I believe that “Goose” is more likely a Diesel, because of the honking mentioned by Peter Sam. Also the only Diesels truly working on sodor in 1968 (according to the wiki) are Daisy, Boco, Bear, and Mavis. Mavis worked at the quarry, and doesn't seem like she would go to the length to do the MOD work at Crovan's Gate, Boco and Bear do not seem to like up with the goose description Peter Sam gave, and Daisy, while lining up with the description, doesn’t like to pull, and works on the farquhar branch, making her go all the way to Crovan's gate and beyond puts her way far away from her working area, and she doesn’t like to pull. I personally theorize that a diesel coming from the Mainland would make sense for “Goose” because none of the Diesels on Sodor seem like potential candidates for such a role, given Peter Sam’s Description of the role. Both Caden and Iris were built before 1968, Caden in 1961, and Iris in 1965, according to the wiki. Skarloey did say that the quarry had been bought out in the EARLY 1960’s which might invalidate my Iris claim and might put caden in a better light. Duck is an obvious idea because of the time availability and the name, but also him going to the other railway doesn't seem likely.
I doubt it's Iris because she hasn't been on Sodor prior to 2009, and she isn't a case of 'remember the new guy'. Caden is a case of 'remember the new guy', but I don't know if it's him or not.
This Goose has got to be someone who would cause the least suspicion. I would have said Sheffield would be a likely engine but he didnt arrive on Sodor until 1994 and it cant be his twin Wilbert either as he didnt visit Sodor until the 90's. Lily was underwater by then so cant be her either. My guess is it's either Duck, Edward, Thomas or one of the Scottish twins. However my strongest bet is with Duck.
That's a fantastic story! I love your work! Also, was that mention of tug boats causing munitions to explode in the US in the '20's a reference to Tugs?
@@WildNorWester I'm confused though. The incident in question sounds like the events of "Munitions" however that wasn't caused by sparks, it was caused by a brute Bluenose barging in while munitions were being loaded from barge to tramp steamer, his barge bumped the munitions and that's what started the fire. Not sparks from the tugs. There was the incident in "Jinxed" where Boomer's sparks ignited the munitions but it wasn't a large scale disaster that blew the docks up as mentioned in the video. Was the tale slightly twisted by the military officials that got wind of it as a way to cover up the Navy's screwup (mainly Bluenose's) by any chance?
@@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren There must have been a source of ignition when Bluenose bumped the barges. Metal rubbing on metal can produce sparks. It is referring to the Bluenose incident.
The tricky part of the mystery is the fact most of the engines already on the NWR in the 60s were on separate lines, and the mainline is already off the list. My best guess is it had to be Edward that was part of this, as he was built before both world wars and most likely knew how to handle those types of trains.
I think Mavis or BoCo might be goose. They were there in the early and mid sixties and The M.O.D clearly wanted engines that don't make sparks to deliver their cargo. And diesels have horns that make honking noises
Perhaps Goose could be Duck? It’s a bit far fetched but it could be possible. The only other engine I can maybe think of that it could be is either Donald, Douglas or BoCo: the latter would perhaps have been preferred by the MOD.
Did a bit of research and Ravens, Swans and mod engines. based on what we know, it's most likely Duck, Percy or Mavis. Sheffield/Wilbert fit, but they weren't on Sodor at the time. it could also be a new character, ie, Rosie or Neville.
Hmm… I wonder if Goose is Patrick? He’s one of the only engines who I can think of when it comes to taking the goods up to the interchange and fits the criteria, or at least, I think so. He also has a diesel horn, like the honk of a goose. I’m not entirely sure about the timing of it all, but maybe someone else here does, so I’ll state my idea here: I think Goose is the codename for one of the diesels on the NWR. I’m not sure though.
This is only a theory: But I think that Harris was the one who moved one of those vans that Adeline asked Peter Sam to leave at Cros-ny-Curin. After all, none of the other engines beside Adeline knew about him and he's pretty quiet too since he's electric. But it is possible that his batteries could get him very far and I can't really see a motive or reason why he'd do it.
@@eagarmp I think it will be someone we would least expect as that's what things have been like in the past. When Duke was rescued it was Mike who found him, the Blisters found out the steam engine in the old mill was Atlas, Brian gave the details on what happened to Lily hence how they got an idea on where she had gone and when they had the trouble with those hopper wagons it was Diesel who discovered that it was 006. Iv a feeling it will be either Atlas, Fred, Harris or Duncan.
OK I did some research and my best guess as to goose's identity is boco as he arrived in 1965 and eventually moved to Edwards branch line and he's a diesel which would please the mod
My guess is Goose may be Henry. He worked along the mainline, and unlike Gordon who would only be passing through, Henry would have had more time to be cordial with the SKR engines.

The plot thickens. I’m loving how this mini series is shaping up. As for my guess to who goose is, it would probably have to be one or both of the Scottish twins.
My theory is that Adeline is still alive and trapped under the old iron bridge. The reason she only talked to the engines who had broken down was because she heard their voices and wanted to see if someone was there. The person who told the radio was one of Adeline's old crew members.
Funny, that's my theory too.
@@agentandrews5737 Uhh Adam, I think You and tencents6 are forgetting something, it is said that Adeline died before she came to the SKR, So now she's become a Friendly Ghost, And the SKR Engines are the only ones who can see her (Except for Atlas and his Crew).
@@billyjudd3326 She was already part of the SKR, otherwise she wouldn't be working with them when she had the accident, nor have the number 7, which she did. The engines may think she died, but surely, every time she calls out, there would have been the sound of an explosion and her ghost on the bridge.
@@agentandrews5737 But if Adeline is a Ghost when she first arrived on the SKR, Then she can't die again, Because Ghost's can't be killed. And why is she (Her ghost) haunting The Old Iron Bridge? She was so friendly towards the SKR Engines as a Ghost (Like Casper the friendly ghost) when she first came to the SKR. She
@@billyjudd3326 She wasn't a ghost when she first came to the SKR.
I love how off-handedly the events of Munitions (TUGS) are referenced. So good.
So Percy was the first engine who heard the story of Adeline before Atlas was the second one to hear of the Story of Adeline?
But that raises another question. If Goose turns out to be Percy and he heard about the ghost story via the movie, who would have thought to have told a movie crew about Adeline's death?
I've heard that the MOD used a somewhat, 'Beetle-like' engine to move their munitions and equipment round the depot..., but I never thought you'd make him a reality; he's quite the surprise!
Also..., who could this 'Goose' be? Could he have something to do with whatever happened to Adeline?
Another great installment! I smirked so hard when the Tugs plug was dropped. Great to see the electric engines of the MOD represented. Can't wait to see the rest!😁😁
I see what you did there!
Tho, I wouldn't be surprised if Steam Tugs setting munitions alight was a more common occurrence than we think.
When I recorded the lines for this episode it was originally gonna be called Manoeuvres, unsure on why the name was changed.
I think it was changed because of the Tugs reference and because the engines were moving munitions away from the MoD section of the slate quarry
Edit:
Also using the 007 clue, it could be toby.
Edit 2: after doing some further research, I've noticed a few things:
-the skr sold the quarry to the MOD in 1960.
I think the Duck will be the Goose.
In addition, when the Scots get cross, their booming whistles and fierce tounge does reflect the behavior of a goose.

I didn’t think about When Douglas took that goods train when he found Oliver nicely done
The revelation of code names deepens the mystery and it is great that we can finally meet the Ministry of Defense engine. I like the touch that he has an actual military rank. I'm also absolutely tickled at the references to the infamous TUGS episode of the same name and the James Bond refences.
I like how socially inept Harris is, fitting for an engine stuck in that quarry for so long
I’m extremely hyped to see this progress
This is literally the first time we met Harris and I already like him.
Is it? Take a close look in 'Ivo's Number', when red Duncan is shunting trucks at the MOD quarry.
@@WildNorWester Literally just did and saw him. But this episode we really get to meet him so that’s what I meant.
First TUGS music, now an actual TUGS reference!
It's good to see this mini series continuing onwards. Top notch stuff.
Ten Cents appeared in a few episodes, and he mentioned Zorran, Hercules and Big Mac by name.
@@numberjacksoctonauts7138 Yes, I remember. It's been so long though.
Cinders and ashes! Did I just hear the James Bond theme playing in the background as Peter Sam left the quarry?! If I did, nice one!
5:06 you could say it’s, BLUE PETER
Ha.
@@agentandrews5737 Good point. I'm interested in the idea that Goose is an entirely new character.
I think “Goose” is Duck. Considering a goose and a duck are both birds
Fantastic story featuring Harris Dan
Loved the calling out of Bluenose.
Also the ref to 007 made me think of hourofpoops Bond spoof with James as 005. Lol
Loved that tugs reference
love the james bond music 13:40
This little electric engine makes me think of the old rolling stock on the London Underground. I saw one like that at a museum in Covenant Garden.
Here's the clues I've deduced from the episode thus far:
- None of the Mainline engines know anything, James had no idea when asked
- Goose is referred to as 'He'
- Goose is standard gauge
- Geese are 'Loud, brash birds that make a honking noise'
- Had to have been on the Island in the early - mid 60s
- WNW on twitter said that Donald only has a cameo appearance
Here's a list of possibilities that were drawn up in the discussion following the episode's release:
Duck was brought up due to the name alone, however I beilive personally that he's too obvious
Douglas due to his frequent allocation to the Midnight Goods trains, leading to his finding of Oliver
Boco was a consideration due to the connection of Geese honking, but hadn't arrived on the island until 1965
Percy I then realised could be a suspect due to the fact he's not unfamiliar to Ghost Stories and pranks involving them
The Tugs reference was *brilliant*
Can't wait for part 3 I'm having a hard time thinking Adeline is actually gone. I think she's in the brush around the bridge
Here's how I think Peter Sam and James' talk went:
Peter Sam: James, there is something I wish to talk to you about.
(his eyes start growing misty)
James: ... she was a great friend to you all, wasn't she?
Peter Sam: You can say that again. (sigh): Anyway, the last codename he told us was 'Goose'. We don't know who that is, and, well... my first guess was... you.
James: Me?! Why on earth would you think I was 'Goose'?
Peter Sam: Oh, so it wasn't you then?
James: Kuh! No way! I can't imagine a less fitting code name for me!
Peter Sam: Oh... sorry... I guess I'll keep looking.
Pretty much.
@@WildNorWester Peter Sam's thought process on who he thought was Goose was hilarious.
I'm gonna go ahead a make a theory, saying Adeline isn't actually dead.
Great story. Did I heard James Bond theme in a part of the scene
If it was Peter, the other NWR engines would have seen him.
If Adeline is found and rescued, I have a feeling that she will be restored and be renumbered as SKR engine no. 11. After all, Peter and lily became NWR numbers 15 and 16 respectively when they were found and restored.
I don't think that'll happen with Adeline. But time will tell, I suppose.
Honestly I hope that's what happens.
Dude, Adeline is a ghost. That's why she's called the Phantom Engine, Because she can go visible and invisible.
3:20 love the TUGS soundtrack 😊
I have a feeling that Peter's Goose. He was owned by the British Army at one point for some kind of secret Cold War project.
Peter was by 1968 sealed up in the Ballahoo Tunnel so I doubt it would be him unless he can teleport out of the tunnel to move stuff for them and then disappear back inside.
@@sam_edwards_7233 Fair enough.
I've got 3 ideas who "Goose" could be: (Potential spoilers inbound)
The potential 3 I have in mind.
@@numberjacksoctonauts7138 That is a fair point that I didn't consider, I was going a little more heavily off the wiki than the actual episodes.
I love the transition. It really caught my eye.

The piano tugs theme is beautiful
Nice touch of the James Bond theme, I love it!
That's a fantastic story! I love your work! Also, was that mention of tug boats causing munitions to explode in the US in the '20's a reference to Tugs?
Yep.
@@WildNorWester Ah I get it. Even though it wasn't sparks from a steam tug it still was a spark regardless. That makes sense.

15:11 Did I see 'Arry/Bert behind Henry?
The tricky part of the mystery is the fact most of the engines already on the NWR in the 60s were on separate lines, and the mainline is already off the list. My best guess is it had to be Edward that was part of this, as he was built before both world wars and most likely knew how to handle those types of trains.
I think Mavis or BoCo might be goose. They were there in the early and mid sixties and The M.O.D clearly wanted engines that don't make sparks to deliver their cargo. And diesels have horns that make honking noises
Peter Sam: Mentions 007.
Background music: Plays the 007 theme.
I originally planned this mini-series as a James Bond crossover. It didn't quite work, but I've kept in some references.

TREMBLIN' TRACKS!!!
First The Unlucky Tug released the first episode of The Thomas Retrospective and now WildNorWester releases this!
Perhaps Goose could be Duck? It’s a bit far fetched but it could be possible. The only other engine I can maybe think of that it could be is either Donald, Douglas or BoCo: the latter would perhaps have been preferred by the MOD.
Will find it funny if the connection is 'Duck, Duck, Goose'.
Like the Yes, Minister reference in this episode!

My theory based from a game…Duck, Duck, Goose. Looking forward to finding out :)
