A bunch of characters went through this, mostly notably Rain, who looked Caucasian in the 90s games. Sindel, Kitana, and Mileena (And really any ninja character) have also been portrayed by actors of various races and ethnicities throughout the years.
Hey man, I'm u/KombatGuy800 I just wanna thank you for making this video. I've been wanting someone to make a video on my Icebergs for a while now, so thank you for bringing that dream into fruition. And the waste in the deadpool manifests as acid, so it's possible Shang Tsung is just making zaterrans such as Chameleon in the fleshpits
I thought the point of Raiden being a “good guy” in MK2 was because of the John Tobias comics establishing that he was your typical Greek God archetype of “evil and immoral while flexing their powers” and he was humbled by the way he was beaten by Liu Kang in the tournament into rethinking his responsibilities. Then the slaughter of the Shaolin happened and it really changed his mind.
Least favorite retcon is the change of Scarlett's backstory. The original born of the blood of fallen warriors was awesome but the orphan backstory is lame.
The nightwolf revenant is not a retcon actually. The Nightwolf we see in Aftermath is likely from around the time between MK and MK3's events. His revenant also exists in the same events, so we can assume Kronika brought the three in Aftermath back from the past and then sent them to the void.
@@Euro.Patriot Well Shang Tsung has a lot of enemies. So If he would have completed that mission, he would have enough money to live comfortably and pay off the Lin Kuei completely.
Hey man, thank you for making this video and thank you for the shout out at 1:06:40! Heres a few comments I got for you. • Gorbak - Goro's father was named and invented by John tobias, and even depicted in his official Mortal Kombat II comic (which predates the Malibu series). He was also shown in The Journey Begins! • Hydro - ended up making an appearance in MK Legacy as a cyborg • MK4 Skins - This may have to do with the fact that the arcade version did not really have alternate skins (other than the mirror match costumes) and that a lot of variants were added for the consoles • Rellim Ohcanep - you correctly identified this minigame as Galaga. However, the Yrrek Divad minigame, while using the same graphics, actually plays more like Space Invaders and is even referred to as "Invaders from Space." Keep up the great work!
Not sure if this aligns with what the iceberg meant, but there are two possible answers to the "50 shades of Jade" entry: 1. It may be a reference to how Jade has always had dark skin, but when MK Mobile added Jade as a character (This being before mk11), instead of using mk9 Jade's model, they used design elements from concept art for Li Mei for MKX (since she appears in the story mode), such as the design of her costume, as well as making her very pale with east asian facial features, essentially painting Li Mei green and calling her Jade. Nowadays, that model is still in the game but Jade has received a lot of character cards that use her mk11 model, and some of her support cards were updated to show mk11 jade instead of that old Jade model. 2. The entry could also be a reference to how through the years its been debated whether Jade was meant to be a black woman or a brown woman (as to say Middle Eastern or South Asian inspired) since her skin tone had been inconsistent thru the games as well as her facial features. It wasn't until, ironically, mkmobile made a celebratory post for Black History Month including characters like Tanya, Jax, Jacqui, and of course, Jade. At the end of the day, Edenians come in all shades and sizes lol
Small correction on Shaolin Monks: Scorpion and Sub Zero were not just skins. They were fully functional characters you could play with their own moves.
Yessir, they just used the same dialogue options and enemies wouldn’t acknowledge scorpion and subzero. They would still act like your kung lao or liu kang
19:12 Here after T-1000 was revealed to be in MK1’s Kombat Pack 2, funny how he said Khrom will never be in the game but put the character that people would compare him to. At least people can have Khrom with a mod over T-1000
wow Big big W on this video editing is very good information is all good like wow such an underated youtuber and video wow really insane can't wait for part 2
The way I rationalize a lot of the retcons after 9 is that MK11 established that numerous timelines have happened before, and with the start of 9, a new timeline began, creating numerous changes to several characters, such as Sindel and Mileena. It just so happened in this new timeline, Sindel was always evil, that's how I see it.
20:43 Uh, that was obviously past Nightwolf in Aftermath. You literally encounter and fight revenant Nightwolf in Aftermath, when playing as past Nightwolf.
That striker was supposed to be in the original mk then in mk2 but didn't appear. Explanation: In the original Mk, Striker was planned to be in the game but was replaced by Sonya to have a female character in the game. He was moved and planned to be in Mk2 but was then again replaced this time by Jax (reason unknown). Finally though he made is day view in mk3.
I just like to say great job on this video man this must have taken you a couple of hours and days to get this done but my favorite character of all time is Reyden but I would love to see come back and a remaster of Shaolin monk
52:33 May be a stretch but Kerry and David are names of a couple of the Von Erich Brothers, a Pro Wrestling Family that was very popular in the south especially. They had passed away before the release of those games, so one could assume it is in reference to them? Their deaths were major events in Texas as hundreds showed up
Valtik is probably the "Protector" of Netherrealm, much like Raiden was the Protector of Earthrealm, and Argus the Protector of Edenia. However, in the original timeline Lucifer was Netherrealm's "Protector"
27:54 the impale move type has reappeared in MK1 with baraka’s projectile arm blades. If it lands in the opponent, it’ll drain their health and increase chip damage. The same goes for his Fatal Blow.
31:48 In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, it is explained that Daegon was awakened centuries before the events of the games because Caro, having lost mental contact with Blaze-who was trapped while guarding the last dragon egg-mistakenly interpreted this loss as a signal to awaken Daegon. Blaze's biography in Armageddon reveals that he was freed from his imprisonment by Onaga's royal sorcerers (the lava shrine priests) after the egg hatched during the events of Mortal Kombat: Deception. At that time, he was unaware of Daegon's premature awakening. It was only when Blaze signaled the two brothers, Taven and Daegon, to wake up in Armageddon that he discovered Daegon had already been freed. If the burning figure in Mortal Kombat II was indeed Blaze, this would imply that Blaze was imprisoned to guard the egg after the events of Mortal Kombat II. This means Daegon could not have been awakened centuries earlier, as Blaze would have known about it. Given that the Black Dragon clan dates back to before the first Mortal Kombat (1992) and the Red Dragon clan even further back, it seems unlikely that the burning figure in Mortal Kombat II was Blaze, as he would have already been guarding the dragon egg at that time.

Mortal Kombat is over 30 years old, it's incredible how creative Ed Boon and John Tobias were when imagining the MK universe and its characters. I just hope NRS stops being greedy and gets back to being creative like its ancestor, Midway, was.
The UA-camr RebelTaxi worked on MK Ultra Girls. The characters are using his designs. I remember a post where he confirms it and shared some information.
I think one of the reasons Ed Boon is so opposed to Khrome's inclusion is legal reasons because MK didn't technically create the character. Katsuhiro Harada of the Tekken franchise recently tweeted about why they don't do fan requests / ideas for a new character and this was the reason why. Skullgirls had an issue with this with the character Juju, a fan character who was liked so much they added her into the game's lore, even mentioning her by name. They even had a chance to become a playable character with the fan vote that happened later on. But the creator wanted compensation for the use of HIS character so they removed her completely.
Yo amazing video. I was wondering if u could talk about Michonne being the initial guest character, but was swapped out for Omni Man. All I know is Ed Boon tweeted about it sometime last year
Did you know that in mk9, sometimes if you perform a baballity on scorpion in his mk1 costume, he can sometimes appear to be red with green glowing eyes like Ermac
I know this may sound embarrassing, but... when I was in sixth grade, I was able to finish the first three Arcade Ladders of MK3. I wasn't able to climb to the top of the last Arcade Ladder and it's still a roof hole inside me to this day.
With regards to Kano's actor Trevor Goddard - yes, he was British, born in Croydon (Surrey - outskirts of South London). He moved to the US in the late 80s to pursue acting. One of the ways he used to stand out in auditions was to mimic an Australian accent - he got a lot more parts that way. It sometimes went even further where he'd convince casting directors and fellow actors he was actually born and raised in Australia. He even went on to play an Australian in the US show JAG as can be seen in this clip: ua-cam.com/video/f19_GGebC6c/v-deo.htmlsi=9glvD714uOtJcYch&t=70 When he played Kano, he was doing a very lazy Aussie accent, it was a bit of a mix of his working class London accent and his Australian accent. To my (UK) ears it leans more heavily into a working class London accent with a vague hint of Aussy, but given his subsequent acting roles and his elaborate backstories about actually being an ex-con from Australia (so he could get more roles), you can probably forgive people at the time (mostly American) believing him to be an Australian. There were even news reports after his death in 2003 referring to him as the Australian actor, Trevor Goddard. And at his funeral, many fellow actors and friends were shocked to find out (from his father) that he wasn't Australian at all and was born and raised in the UK. There's an article here on his apparent hoax of fooling many fellow actors and friends that he was Australian born and bred: goddard-association.org.uk/open/magazines/68%20-%20Nov%202003-1.htm
10:05 - Retcon, he was originally sent to assassinate not assist Shang Tsung. 11:39 coming from an Australian, he doesn't not sound Australian at all. He sounds British. He was originally Japanese-American. 13:07 They're normally unlocked through beating the story with the characters. They have their own movesets. 16:53 Yes if it was done well. 19:58 That wasn't a retcon, Raiden revived him. 20:45 The characters brought by Kronika come from all over time. 20:55 Raiden's alignment change and Sindel's alignment change, Sindel was really nice in Deception's konquest.

Did you know that the ABACABB code has another Easter Egg? The code was for the Genesis system, and was a reference to the band Genesis, who had an album called ABACAB.
During your whole retcon point you got a lot wrong, Johnny was brought back in MK4 by Raiden but it’s not exactly known how, Nightwolfs past self was in the void not his present
please include the jave phones j2me UMK3 version, that could be played either with sfx or music, and the tombstones had "your mom" jokes in polish in one of the stages (the team porting it is from poland). Depending on the screen resolution of the game (weaker phones had less storage), you would end up with less characters. Another one is the delisted 3D model version of UMK3 for android and ios
I still think it's funny how AFI was used as a cryptic way to tease Havik considering how two different people named Havoc are tied to the band; if you know who the second person is then you know who I'm referring to

I've played MK Onslaught only for a while before deleting it to save space , but let me tell you this - the intro alone felt more MK than the entire MK11 game. I wish I was joking
And now the mobile team is done
GOD BLESS. Keep up the good work and amazing content bro! You earned my sub and likes!! ❤️🙏🏼🙂💪🏼🌹👑🌹💪🏼🙂🙏🏼❤️
Just found this video and channel. Really good Kontent, can't wait for part 2!
Thanks friend ❤
Shaolin monks had Subzero and Scorpion playable with full customized and upgradable rpg movesets, same as Liu Kang and Kung Lao. No cheats needed, no basic costume swap
Yes, I amended that mistake in my follow-up to this video
“The Pink Floyd” 💀
Mortal Kombat is over 30 years old, it's incredible how creative Ed Boon and John Tobias were when imagining the MK universe and its characters. I just hope NRS stops being greedy and gets back to being creative like its ancestor, Midway, was.
0:14 and some facts shao kahn knows everything
41:15 "an old gaming magazine....I feel attacked. I had a shit ton of those 😢
Believe me … I did too
The UA-camr RebelTaxi worked on MK Ultra Girls. The characters are using his designs. I remember a post where he confirms it and shared some information.
Can’t wait for part 2, like literally I keep checking for a part 2 lmfao
🔜
Great work man
Great vid
Ty ❤️
I think one of the reasons Ed Boon is so opposed to Khrome's inclusion is legal reasons because MK didn't technically create the character. Katsuhiro Harada of the Tekken franchise recently tweeted about why they don't do fan requests / ideas for a new character and this was the reason why.
Skullgirls had an issue with this with the character Juju, a fan character who was liked so much they added her into the game's lore, even mentioning her by name. They even had a chance to become a playable character with the fan vote that happened later on. But the creator wanted compensation for the use of HIS character so they removed her completely.
Yeah I’d be curious to see how they’d navigate putting Khrome in the game, but I have to imagine it’s possible.
@@FAiRWAYx Well, just found out the "creator" of Khrome is apparently a huge racist so that might be a factor too
Megaman has fan requested robot masters
ZEBRON GANG STAND TF UP!!!
🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥😤💯
Yo amazing video. I was wondering if u could talk about Michonne being the initial guest character, but was swapped out for Omni Man. All I know is Ed Boon tweeted about it sometime last year
Definitely adding this to the list. Thanks for watching ❤️
@@FAiRWAYx of course and I can’t wait til the next one🙃
Did you know that in mk9, sometimes if you perform a baballity on scorpion in his mk1 costume, he can sometimes appear to be red with green glowing eyes like Ermac
Did not know that!
I know this may sound embarrassing, but... when I was in sixth grade, I was able to finish the first three Arcade Ladders of MK3. I wasn't able to climb to the top of the last Arcade Ladder and it's still a roof hole inside me to this day.
As someone who’s favourite MK character is Cassie, I would die for a show with her as the lead!
He even went on to play an Australian in the US show JAG as can be seen in this clip:
ua-cam.com/video/f19_GGebC6c/v-deo.htmlsi=9glvD714uOtJcYch&t=70
When he played Kano, he was doing a very lazy Aussie accent, it was a bit of a mix of his working class London accent and his Australian accent.
There's an article here on his apparent hoax of fooling many fellow actors and friends that he was Australian born and bred:

Great info!
The General auto insurance being used to subtly leak Shao Kahn a year before the reveal of MK1 will never not be funny.
Lmao
I did played MK Onslaught and I liked how dialogs were done in that game. It's a shame the game was killed so quickly.
Love the history. Takes me
Back to when my kids use to beat my ass in MK before I could even touch the controller.😂 thank you for the memories❤
Nice i was waiting for a vid like this
oh imagine how cool it would be if they did a mk shaolin monks game with noob smoke as the two characters
Oh yeah, MK Conquest hype! 😂 That show is nothing but a product of its time and that's why it's worth a watch alone. The nostalgia is heartwarming
I need to rewatch it again. It’s been a long time
The art for MK ultra girls looks a LOT like pan pizza/rebeltaxi's artstyle.
That’s precisely what it’s modeled after. It may have been done by rebeltaxi actually.
I've been hoping someone made an updated MK Iceberg!
Meat was going to be playable in Motor Kombat, there's even a model of him and his own kart
For real? That would’ve been sick!
54:50 You forgot about cyber skarlet who is a red pallete swap of cyrax seen in the bonus challenge tower #76 on MK9 PS Vita
Oh for real? I gotta check that out
10:05 - Retcon, he was originally sent to assassinate not assist Shang Tsung.
Does Johnny’s resurrection not qualify as a retcon? Thanks for the input on these, I definitely have some amends to make in part 2
@@FAiRWAYx No, he was killed in 3 by a death squad but revived in Trilogy or 4. It's explained in one of his bios.
I'll post this as a main thread, as well, in case it gets lost here, but with regards to Kano's actor Trevor Goddard - yes, he was British, born in Croydon (Surrey - outskirts of South London). Not going to lie.
I like the genesis/mega drive version of fighting the hidden characters in MK2 in a blue portal rather than Goros lair
1:08:08 Damn, kinda lame they’re retconning Lucifer :/
I guess they’re too afraid of pissing off religious people even though the old them wouldn’t care since he was literally canon in the original timeline 🤦♂️
Krhome would be a lot cooler character than a lot of the ones they have now
Thank you for @ my channel, even if it wasn't necessary.
Absolutely necessary. It was difficult to find a lot of these clips ❤️
Thank-you 😊
9:27 I feel like I'm watching a Snacube fan dub. This is so goofy.
Hilariously bad
Keep make these cool videos
Did you know that the ABACABB code has another Easter Egg? The code was for the Genesis system, and was a reference to the band Genesis, who had an album called ABACAB.
Really? That’s interesting
"Ptsd stories" is so LOL😂
Me when I see mk3 ninjas: 0:53
During your whole retcon point you got a lot wrong, Johnny was brought back in MK4 by Raiden but it’s not exactly known how, Nightwolfs past self was in the void not his present
Ruutuu is literally Geras. Big dark buffed man with blue glowing eyes appears from a sandstorm. Surprised they had concept of him back in mk9
That’s a wild connection. Didn’t think of that
I'd give my pinky toe for NRS to take some time and craft a well-put-together Konquest Mode, with some good fighters for the towers.
Another Konquest is necessary
@@FAiRWAYx Looking forward to part two of the video!
@@bledfordaysband should be dropping Friday 🤞
Boon really went from making Ermac real to being a dick about Khrom.
50 shades of jade probably refers to how many times she's been race swapped to white, Asian etc from her actual race
Correct!
please include the jave phones j2me UMK3 version, that could be played either with sfx or music, and the tombstones had "your mom" jokes in polish in one of the stages (the team porting it is from poland). Depending on the screen resolution of the game (weaker phones had less storage), you would end up with less characters.
Another one is the delisted 3D model version of UMK3 for android and ios
I still think it's funny how AFI was used as a cryptic way to tease Havik considering how two different people named Havoc are tied to the band; if you know who the second person is then you know who I'm referring to
The Erron Black theory is crazy lmao
It's hilarious how Ash Williams didn't make it to Mortal Kombat, but did in FORTNITE of all things...
Meat deserves a kameo spot in mk1.
I’m down for that
Not to be a smart ass but I definitely just played shaolin monks yesterday and there was for sure air combos .
