Hey man, I'm u/KombatGuy800 I just wanna thank you for making this video. I've been wanting someone to make a video on my Icebergs for a while now, so thank you for bringing that dream into fruition. To clarify some stuff "50 shades of Jade" refers to the controversy concerning the inconsistencies in Jades skin tone throughout the years And the "Shang Tsung made chameleon" theory's main basis comes from the fact that the deadpool is the result of the waste coming from the fleshpits. And the waste in the deadpool manifests as acid, so it's possible Shang Tsung is just making zaterrans such as Chameleon in the fleshpits
I thought the point of Raiden being a “good guy” in MK2 was because of the John Tobias comics establishing that he was your typical Greek God archetype of “evil and immoral while flexing their powers” and he was humbled by the way he was beaten by Liu Kang in the tournament into rethinking his responsibilities. Then the slaughter of the Shaolin happened and it really changed his mind.
Least favorite retcon is the change of Scarlett's backstory. The original born of the blood of fallen warriors was awesome but the orphan backstory is lame.
Not sure if this aligns with what the iceberg meant, but there are two possible answers to the "50 shades of Jade" entry: 1. It may be a reference to how Jade has always had dark skin, but when MK Mobile added Jade as a character (This being before mk11), instead of using mk9 Jade's model, they used design elements from concept art for Li Mei for MKX (since she appears in the story mode), such as the design of her costume, as well as making her very pale with east asian facial features, essentially painting Li Mei green and calling her Jade. Nowadays, that model is still in the game but Jade has received a lot of character cards that use her mk11 model, and some of her support cards were updated to show mk11 jade instead of that old Jade model. 2. The entry could also be a reference to how through the years its been debated whether Jade was meant to be a black woman or a brown woman (as to say Middle Eastern or South Asian inspired) since her skin tone had been inconsistent thru the games as well as her facial features. It wasn't until, ironically, mkmobile made a celebratory post for Black History Month including characters like Tanya, Jax, Jacqui, and of course, Jade. At the end of the day, Edenians come in all shades and sizes lol
The nightwolf revenant is not a retcon actually. The Nightwolf we see in Aftermath is likely from around the time between MK and MK3's events. His revenant also exists in the same events, so we can assume Kronika brought the three in Aftermath back from the past and then sent them to the void.

31:48 In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, it is explained that Daegon was awakened centuries before the events of the games because Caro, having lost mental contact with Blaze-who was trapped while guarding the last dragon egg-mistakenly interpreted this loss as a signal to awaken Daegon. Blaze's biography in Armageddon reveals that he was freed from his imprisonment by Onaga's royal sorcerers (the lava shrine priests) after the egg hatched during the events of Mortal Kombat: Deception. At that time, he was unaware of Daegon's premature awakening. It was only when Blaze signaled the two brothers, Taven and Daegon, to wake up in Armageddon that he discovered Daegon had already been freed. If the burning figure in Mortal Kombat II was indeed Blaze, this would imply that Blaze was imprisoned to guard the egg after the events of Mortal Kombat II. This means Daegon could not have been awakened centuries earlier, as Blaze would have known about it. Given that the Black Dragon clan dates back to before the first Mortal Kombat (1992) and the Red Dragon clan even further back, it seems unlikely that the burning figure in Mortal Kombat II was Blaze, as he would have already been guarding the dragon egg at that time.
I think one of the reasons Ed Boon is so opposed to Khrome's inclusion is legal reasons because MK didn't technically create the character. Katsuhiro Harada of the Tekken franchise recently tweeted about why they don't do fan requests / ideas for a new character and this was the reason why. Skullgirls had an issue with this with the character Juju, a fan character who was liked so much they added her into the game's lore, even mentioning her by name. They even had a chance to become a playable character with the fan vote that happened later on. But the creator wanted compensation for the use of HIS character so they removed her completely.

Valtik is probably the "Protector" of Netherrealm, much like Raiden was the Protector of Earthrealm, and Argus the Protector of Edenia. However, in the original timeline Lucifer was Netherrealm's "Protector"
With regards to Kano's actor Trevor Goddard - yes, he was British, born in Croydon (Surrey - outskirts of South London). He moved to the US in the late 80s to pursue acting. One of the ways he used to stand out in auditions was to mimic an Australian accent - he got a lot more parts that way. It sometimes went even further where he'd convince casting directors and fellow actors he was actually born and raised in Australia. He even went on to play an Australian in the US show JAG as can be seen in this clip: ua-cam.com/video/f19_GGebC6c/v-deo.htmlsi=9glvD714uOtJcYch&t=70 When he played Kano, he was doing a very lazy Aussie accent, it was a bit of a mix of his working class London accent and his Australian accent. To my (UK) ears it leans more heavily into a working class London accent with a vague hint of Aussy, but given his subsequent acting roles and his elaborate backstories about actually being an ex-con from Australia (so he could get more roles), you can probably forgive people at the time (mostly American) believing him to be an Australian. There were even news reports after his death in 2003 referring to him as the Australian actor, Trevor Goddard. And at his funeral, many fellow actors and friends were shocked to find out (from his father) that he wasn't Australian at all and was born and raised in the UK. There's an article here on his apparent hoax of fooling many fellow actors and friends that he was Australian born and bred: goddard-association.org.uk/open/magazines/68%20-%20Nov%202003-1.htm

He was originally Japanese-American. 13:07 They're normally unlocked through beating the story with the characters. I know this may sound embarrassing, but... when I was in sixth grade, I was able to finish the first three Arcade Ladders of MK3. I wasn't able to climb to the top of the last Arcade Ladder and it's still a roof hole inside me to this day.
On the topic of that Kotaku article, I feel at this point it can fairly easily be said that that whole article was a load of bullshit, or greatly exaggerated at the least, it’s been 5 years since it came out and the gore is MK1 is pretty damn brutal, not as brutal as MKX but far less stylistic compared to how it was done in MK11. In fact I’d go so far to say that MK11 is definitely the bloodiest MK game but shockingly lacking in the actual gore department, which kinda flys in the face of the whole “they made us look at gore to get the fatalities to look right”. I want to preface this next paragraph with the fact this is purely from memory on the night that the TLOU2 entire game, and game dev documents got leaked on twitter, so take what I say with a grain of salt but I definitely recall Naughty Dog themselves getting in trouble for the exact same thing that the Kotaku MK dev was saying about MK, and supposedly, had to give the people who got traumatized PTO and actual therapy covered by the studio/insurance. I could be very wrong on this, like i said take what I’m saying with a grain of salt, and by all means if someone can prove me wrong please do, but I recall seeing multiple websites cover that story as well as the fact that naughty dog even addressed it? I know that the naughty dog dev that brought forward the PTSD trauma story was supposedly, confirmed to have actually worked on TLOU2, not to mention all the actual shit that was apart of the huge TLOU2 leak, I definitely recall seeing a few blurred crime scene photos and a discussion about a live leak video? But the one thing I definitely remember very well was how differently TLOU2 dev handled the trauma when directly compared to the anonymous dev in the MK11 Kotaku article. It’s a total 180, with the naughty dog dev being afraid of being in public/near police, and hated being awake, compared to the Kotaku dev being afraid to go to sleep, with that being the only thing they mentioned. Now I know this is purely anecdotal on my part, but I can definitely say that TLOU2 has gore that seriously made me feel very queasy at times, in particular the awful noises that the scars make when shot in the neck, as well as the scar arm break scene, which that one sucks in a way that feels far more real then any bit of video game violence I’ve ever seen, and compared to anything Mortal Kombat has done, even the worst fatality’s like Gerras’ skin rip one in MK11 to Noob Saibots wish bone fatality in MK9. I personally, truly do believe that article was just Kotaku getting a supposed insider/leak and just jumping the shark on publishing it without any proper research into what the person was saying, cause even with MKX, which absolutely has the most brutal fatalities in the franchise, the gore has been very basic biology related shit, like getting cut in half will cause your guts spill out and shit, or getting your trachea torn out will cause you to cough up blood and choke. Add onto the fact that Kotaku just found out and published that one of their leading accessibility consultants was literally just a troll fucking with them and multiple other gaming publications for years, I’m starting to seriously doubt anything that’s said from gaming “insiders” and is also published by Kotaku of all websites. Sorry for the literal essay, it’s just something that I’ve thought about quite a bit due to how often that article is sited by people who dislike MK, without any real evidence to support or deny its claims, aside from a whole fucking lot of “he said, she said”
Yo amazing video. I was wondering if u could talk about Michonne being the initial guest character, but was swapped out for Omni Man. All I know is Ed Boon tweeted about it sometime last year
@@FAiRWAYx In Armageddon, Daegon is said to have been awakened centuries before the events of MK1 (1993), due to Caro having lost mental contact with Blaze and mistaking this loss of connection for the signal to wake Daegon. Caro lost his connection with Blaze because Blaze had been captured by Onaga's holy men, the Ki Chao, who enslaved the fire elemental to protect the last dragon egg that Onaga would use to resurrect. Blaze is only freed from his prison when the dragon egg hatches during the events of Deception. At this point, he still doesn't know that Daegon had been awakened. Only when Blaze gives the true signal to wake the sons of Argus in Arnageddon does he discover that Daegon has already awakened. If the burning man from MK2 was Blaze, it would mean that Blaze was imprisoned by the Ki Chao sometime after MK2, which means that Daegon could not have been awakened centuries earlier because Caro would not have lost contact with Blaze and even if he had lost, Blaze would know that Daegon was awake. With the Black Dragon dating back to before MK1 (1993) and the Red Dragon long before that, it proves that the burning man in MK2 couldn't be Blaze, as he was guarding Onaga's egg in that time period. I don't remember where I saw that Onaga's followers (Lava Shrine Priests) were called Ki Chao, but I remember seeing this information in some character's bio.

I just wish there was an edenian spinoff with focus on the edenian women (sindel, kitana, mileena, jade, tanya…) showing the efforts to take shao Kahn down from the version of the females. I’m a little tired of overfocus on Liu Kang and other males. It’d be awesome to play a beat em up game with Kitana’s fans, mileena as sais and the girls’ set of feminine and soft combos. I’d love that. Especially if it were open world, now with such technology for gaming!
Did you know that the ABACABB code has another Easter Egg? The code was for the Genesis system, and was a reference to the band Genesis, who had an album called ABACAB.
53:03 If I'm correct, this refers to Jade's skin tone constantly changing. In MK3 she has a darker skin tone, in MK Deception her skin tone is lighter than before.
I still think it's funny how AFI was used as a cryptic way to tease Havik considering how two different people named Havoc are tied to the band; if you know who the second person is then you know who I'm referring to
Dunno if it’s on the list bc I didn’t wait until the end to post this comment but Johnny cage was the first character ever created for the game and was used to sell the game to investors. Also, Shang tsung is originally from earthrealm not out world.

Not sure if this aligns with what the iceberg meant, but there are two possible answers to the "50 shades of Jade" entry:

Yeah I’d be curious to see how they’d navigate putting Khrome in the game, but I have to imagine it’s possible.
@@FAiRWAYx Well, just found out the "creator" of Khrome is apparently a huge racist so that might be a factor too

Mortal Kombat is over 30 years old, it's incredible how creative Ed Boon and John Tobias were when imagining the MK universe and its characters. I just hope NRS stops being greedy and gets back to being creative like its ancestor, Midway, was.
Oh yeah, MK Conquest hype! 😂 That show is nothing but a product of its time and that's why it's worth a watch alone. The nostalgia is heartwarming
I need to rewatch it again. It’s been a long time

He even went on to play an Australian in the US show JAG as can be seen in this clip:
ua-cam.com/video/f19_GGebC6c/v-deo.htmlsi=9glvD714uOtJcYch&t=70
When he played Kano, he was doing a very lazy Aussie accent, it was a bit of a mix of his working class London accent and his Australian accent.
There's an article here on his apparent hoax of fooling many fellow actors and friends that he was Australian born and bred:

Thank-you 😊
Ruutuu is literally Geras. Big dark buffed man with blue glowing eyes appears from a sandstorm. Surprised they had concept of him back in mk9
That’s a wild connection. Didn’t think of that
On the topic of that Kotaku article, I feel at this point it can fairly easily be said that that whole article was a load of bullshit, or greatly exaggerated at the least, it’s been 5 years since it came out and the gore is MK1 is pretty damn brutal, not as brutal as MKX but far less stylistic compared to how it was done in MK11.

13:18 The burning man was an INSPIRATION for the creation of Blaze. Canonically, the burning man couldn't be Blaze.
Most of the source material indicates that it’s him and Shaolin Monks, Deadly Alliance, and Deception pretty much confirm it
@@FAiRWAYx In Armageddon, Daegon is said to have been awakened centuries before the events of MK1 (1993), due to Caro having lost mental contact with Blaze and mistaking this loss of connection for the signal to wake Daegon.
50 shades of jade probably refers to how many times she's been race swapped to white, Asian etc from her actual race

20:57 Kabal and Sindel Retcon, easily the worst retcons.
Did you know that in mk9, sometimes if you perform a baballity on scorpion in his mk1 costume, he can sometimes appear to be red with green glowing eyes like Ermac
Did not know that!
Really? That’s interesting
Every time I hear toasty , I always hear it as whoopsy
Lmao I’ve seen a bunch of people who say the same
53:03 If I'm correct, this refers to Jade's skin tone constantly changing. In MK3 she has a darker skin tone, in MK Deception her skin tone is lighter than before.
Exactly right!
They could’ve put chrome in M1K instead of the T-1000 but they care more about guests than new original characters for some reason
I think the reason we didn't see a followup on the PTSD stuff is because of NDAs. Not worth risking your job security unfortunately.
0:14 and some facts shao kahn knows everything
hell yeah
Reptile is Zaterran, not saurion
Technically both are correct. He’s from Zaterra but of the Saurian race in the OG timeline.
