  • Sansevieria's are one of my favourite plant, as I've mentioned once or twice... or... in almost every video. But today we're featuring the Bird's Nest Snake Plant, a more compact, smaller version of the gigantic Sansevieria's I love so much.

This is the first plant I got that didn't die or wither away, it kept growing slowly and happily and thanks to this little guy I didn't give up on houseplants, going strong now with three (!) alive ones XD for someone with a black thumb, this is a miracle! such a cute little plant

Interesting point… my sansivieria live outside in the summer in wales Uk. They get all the Welsh weather. Loads of heavy rain, bright light including direct sunshine. They grow so fast all season. So they can handle lots of water providing they’re in well draining soil. They love being outside!

Thanks! Any idea what would cause it to push out very tall center leaves? Mines doing this! Looks weird

Oh thats weird, the only thing I can think of it maybe it’s growing so fast it’s loosing its shape. maybe give it time, the leaves might spread out as it grows.

Try giving it a different light source. I have mine in a lower light so it doesn’t “reach” so much for brighter light source. I have mine away from a window and away from grow lights. It is actually in my bedroom where it gets some light but not bright light. It sounds like it may be stretching like some of the succulents do.

Thanks for posting this! Been meaning to ask you about snake plants. My silver star hasn’t been looking too hot for awhile now :(

I have one of those! although it’s done nothing the entire time I’ve owned it and it’s just a little guy. but the care for pretty much all sansevierias is the same. try holding back on water for a week, or move it to a brighter area for a bit, and see if that helps it at all!

Do you have to separate the babies? Mine has 4 in a small pot. Can I leave them like that?

Not at all! I kept my babies in with my parent plant, I liked how they all looked bunched together.

Hi! Love this video. I have one that I bought from a nursery a month ago and his leaves are curling. Any suggestions? I don’t have much natural light but he sits in my windowsill to get what he can. Watering once a week (sparingly as there’s not much room to water) and it’s still in its original container as I’m scared to repot

    • @michaeljohnhalse

Mine has actually just begun to curl as well in a couple spots. There could be two main reasons for this, one, it needs to be repotted, haha. Dont be afraid to repot, if you don’t want to disturb the roots a lot, you can even just move the whole thing, soil included, to a larger pot and fill in around it. The other thing it could be, which I’ve also noticed in other sansevieria’s, is that it needs more water on the days you do water it. I have a regular sansevieria that gets droopy leaves when I’ve underwatered it, I’m very scared of overwatering then, because I’ve done that in the past, but sometimes they just need more water than they’re getting.

@@michaeljohnhalse This is super helpful. It’s hard to water since there’s very little soil exposed. I’ll definitely re-pot as it’ll be easier to distribute water evenly. Thank you so much for responding.
