    I can't wait for the riot of blooming beauty. . . . colors galore. What fun that will be! Thank you very much for sharing. My mini-phals have just about finished blooming and what do I find but more spikes from those that bloomed for months steadily. I have a spike on a keiki. That's a first for me. I live in Rochester NY where the climate and seasons are the reverse. All are grown on my window sills. I love my sweeties and tell them!

    Wow! That will be quite a show. I only have 2 phals as they're not one of my favorites and they don't like my cold winters but the blooms are bright and beautiful 😁

    This is how much I love you, I let a 3 minute and a 10 minute ad run before your video.
    I told you Magic Art is super fussy. I was never able to make it happy in a regular pot. Since I chucked it into the mesh pot earlier this year with nothing but large chunks of charcoal, it has exploded with root growth, the leaves have finally plumped back up and it is growing a really large new one. I dunno, it seems to want to be drier than my other Phals. We've been brutally hot and dry the past ten days (although still very humid, 65% with an air temp of 36/37 so it feels like 42/43) and it isn't sulking at all despite only one watering a day.

      Awww 🤗🤗 what a legend you are Michael! I actually had no idea until recently there are such a thing as 10 minute ads when Jarred test drive a couple videos for me. What on earth can you even advertise for that long?! I’ll keep that in mind for the Magic Art. Luckily heat and neglect are not a problem here 👌🏼

    So exciting to see all those spikes on your phals. Looking forward to seeing the blooms. I have one Phal in bloom with another spike coming into bloom, and 3 other phals growing spikes. This is exciting for me. Love your videos and love going on the journey with you through your videos and learning how to grow orchids. Have a great day.

      Rahnee K oh no!! If they have been bought in bloom in the last 12 months they may still be acclimating. Otherwise make sure you are happy with their root systems and general health of the plant. They should be spiking now with our cooler temps :)

      @@OrchieDee thank you so much for your reply Deanna. Actually I didn't think about the acclimating aspect thanks. I think a few of them are obviously still too young to bloom but yesterday I found a spike in one of the older ones! Was so happy lol... Thanks for your wonderful vidoes. I always get lots of ideas and wish list suggestions from your channel. Have a great day!

    Hi. Love your channel. Quick question. How long do you keep your grow lights on per day for your phals? And does that change with the season?

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  3 роки тому +1

      This is the first season I've had the growlights, and it will mainly be for winter as the sun is on the opposite side of the house. It stays on for roughly 9 hours during the day on a timer. In summer I'd probably have to balance with the heat production of the light as it gets very hot here and they do get a little direct sun in the morning.
      Having said this , it does seem like we will be moving in a month or so, so conditions will change again in the new environment!!

    Hi. I’m new to your channel. I live in Sydney and was just wondering where you get your potting mix from. I’ve used the Bunnings one and I don’t think it is great as I’ve now lost two of my best Phals 😢

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  3 роки тому +1

      The common bunnings ones is not good - but our bigger stores are stocking some better quality stuff lately. Check out my description box. I get my pre-mix from either Orchidaceous supplies (my favourite but I get it from orchid shows / local delivery - I think postage is expensive) OR Orchid Den (also a nice mix, I have a discount code in the description).

    Hi, can you please include pictures when filming orchids not in bloom. Thanks :)

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  4 роки тому +1

      Denise Jeanne Nelson I do when I have them :). If it’s not up it’s because I couldn’t find a pic or it hasn’t bloomed. Unbloomed ones can be googled fairly easily... it’s just difficult with copyright taking pictures from the internet for my vids

    I also have a phal with the same problem as yours. Please let me know how you treated it. I was thinking of treating it soapy water, hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate.

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  4 роки тому

      I haven’t actually treated it with anything.. it’s extremely slow spreading and originally on the other leaf I thought it might even have been from some cold damage. The root system and rest of the plant look good so I’ll just try to keep it strong and see how it goes for now..,

    Your Phil’s are great. Do you have any recommendations for fertilizer. Do you ever use banana tea?

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  4 роки тому +1

      No, I use a product from bunnings (an Australian garden store) called Strike Back for orchids. It was a bit of seaweed and mostly organic... recommend it if you’re in Australia.

  • @darcylyon9986

    Have you ever had a cattleya new growth produce a leaf with the edges not separated or fused together? A few of mine are doing this and I was wondering if i should manually separate them with a razor where it should have opened and also do you know what causes this in the first place? Thank you

    • @OrchieDee
      @OrchieDee  4 роки тому +1

      It’s really common Darcy. Just be patient with it unless the plant is in a poor condition. If the leaves are still developing I’d just leave them , if you are really impatient just get your fingernail and split it gently, no need for anything more usually. They ‘stick’ together as the emerge and rely on hydrostatic pressure (‘water pressure’ transmitted from the roots). So on a healthy plant with decent roots they will just open naturally. If the plant is a bit unhealthy it might need a little help, don’t force anything though. Also make sure it’s not a sheath!!

    Your Phal collection is nearly as impressive as the fact you managed to cross the border on the weekend 🤣.
    I’m now treating my Dowiana with the root hormone “Auxinone”- recommended to me by Bailey via a FB group. I’ll let you know how it goes. It’s looking promising after only 2 weeks.
