    I have been doing sound and recording for a long time,and when i worked for clair brothers back in 93 it made me like all forms of music,and gave so much education. but my love is metal. but if you think you know everything,and can't use information form other people.then you are not going to get any better at your craft so with that I just want to thank you for all the good information.

    I agree totally. It takes years to build trust and a portfolio. For me it was in the water and waste water industry. Different career but the same idea. Musically I’m not there yet. But slowly but surely my name is getting out locally. Not there yet, but it will. Integrity goes a long way

    Yes, some of us are old enough to remember the pre DAW age! My first piece of equipment was an Aria 4 Track tape Recorder, Studio Track R504. I paid $800 for it in '85! Out of curiosity I looked one up on Ebay.... it was going for around $50. That $800 will seem outrageous to some nowadays, but it wasn't just a piece of equipment that was purchased, it was education that will last a lifetime, and that is invaluable.

    Dear Warren, I always enjoy watching your videos and tutorials, they bring a "positive mood" when I stuck with my project and need an advice. I only started producing my songs so must learn a lot from professionals like you. However, music still remains a "hobby" cause I haven't made a penny yet and it's an expensive hobby. I've been making my living running a small construction business for last 20 years, this why I have a budget for a home studio, hiring session singers and sound engineers and like I said, it's an expensive hobby. Many talented musicians out there give up too soon, cause they're young and have no budget and no experience in "how to do business" and "how to deal with wrong people" in the music industry. Also, I had to cancel few song recordings with very talented singers because their managers wanted me to sing "no win" agreements. Those situations don't affect me as I just move on and look for other unsigned singers only because I have time and I'm still making money in construction. What advice would you give to other musicians on a "tight budget", so they don't give up or worst - "sign a dodgy contract"? Thanks and Regards. Byolegy

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 років тому +1

      Hi Byolegy! Thanks for your great comment and wonderful insight! I understand, people do give up early, usually because they don't earn enough soon enough! I could also have done that many times during my career! However I lived on Pasta for many years and pushed through it!

    • @Byolegy1
      @Byolegy1 6 років тому +1

    Thanks for your videos. Your vocal production tips have worked out wonderfully. Now I'm building a name for myself locally for being able to record and produce good vocals. Other local people complain about vocals being a hard part of the process for them but I love it now.

    Thanks Warren for the awesome life lessons! I’m wondering How can we, as a new generation, catch up with the more experienced engineers that have had experience with vintage analog gear throughout their whole life? How can we produce and mix good music without having lived in the vintage and tape era of Music, and don’t have access to such equipment?

    I love my "cheap" Yamaha acoustic! I play it all the time, it has a great sound. And when I'm on stage I don't mind it that much if it gets a dent or something (of course I try to avoid it).
    I also used my cheap THR10C from Yamaha to record some parts of a song I am curently working on. I love the sound and frankly I don't see a reason to re-record it using my more expensive Fender '68 reverb deluxe (I mainly use that one in live occasions)

    Since we're asking questions, I would like to hear your opinion on studio monitors. I had my eye/ear out to buy Adam A7X but they are pretty expensive, or maybe the Yamaha HS7 which are about half the price but I see a lot of good reviews. Now, I'm not the one that thinks that what costs more is always better, it's just that I had an opportunity to listen to a7x but not to hs7. Could you tell us something about reference monitors in the next q/a? I see you also have a pair of adams behind you. Thank you in advance, keep up the great work!

    • @wafflestoast5228
      @wafflestoast5228 6 років тому +1

      I’ve got HS8’s currently but I’ve noticed they are very bright, boomy, and scooped in the mids. They have trim levels and I have it set to be as mid-forward as possible and it actually sounds decent. I’m assuming the HS7’s will provide a better mid range response simply due to physics. And they’ll definitely get the job done for you. Can’t really go wrong!
      I myself am looking at the a77x. Only $2500 for a pair and they are 3 way so the bass & mids are separated. They get awesome reviews.
      Don’t forget to do a little room treatment...

    Great advice as ever Warren particularly about cheaper instruments. I bought an Eko Ranger 6 second hand for £50 (with case) in 1985 and it’s been my go-to acoustic for songwriting since. It has a beautiful mellow tone and I would never part with it. It’s also built like a tank...!

    Instead of working for free: I like the concept to record the band for free. 1 track. If they like it, they pay fixed (low) price, maybe $75 or $100 for your mix... If they don't like it, they walk away, but they don't get to take a CD home.
    It allows you to get a little cash back to re-invest in your gear

      Hi Darlene, whatever works for each person! Ultimately it depends on each individual case! Dave Jerden always worked this way, so did I, however if you can get paid upfront when you're building your resume then great!

    what's the best way to go about building a resume

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 років тому +1

      Hi Ryan, marvellous question! As I suggest in the video you have to be humble and be prepared to work on spec, at least one song, either Producing or Mixing for free to build your resume and trust with the client! I wish you all the best!

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 років тому +1

      Thanks it's much appreciated. so would you then create a facebook page offering your services with say a soundcloud link to your mixes? is there anything in particular you should say or specify to create a good portfolio. sorry if these questions sound dumb i'm not really getting the point of my question across very well.

    Very very valuable information. I just want to ask...why most music nowadays has a big loud very compressed audio files, but the old school guys who are awesome had moderate shape with more dynamics?!
    Is it based on any audio engineering idea??
    Thank you😊

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  6 років тому +2

      Hi AMB, interesting question! Actually people tend to print a lower signals these days without committing compression etc to DAW, they leave it to the mix! We used to always print the tracks how we wanted to hear them!

      Produce Like A Pro Yes, I agree...but somehow they sound slightly better I think! Thank you for your time.

    I think an expensive guitar is more for the player than anything else. The workhorse guitar (not expensive but not cheap) is for the music. And sometimes the cheap guitar has the right sound in the right place. Seems to me that most working guitarists seems to have LOTs of guitars or guitars they've modified. Of course, nothing applies to everything so there are exceptions. ---- Your experience with your first recording with Louise sounds similar to how an artist feels when doing their first recordings in a great studio with a great producer/engineer. I relate.

      Hi Music Ting I’ve not personally experienced a very bad conversion, however if I did I would remove and immediately upload again. Ultimately it’s a great way to host your music!

    Maybe quantity does outweigh quality these days. Lots of youtube channels that are successful spew video after video day after day with content that is diluted and repeated.

      Hmm that might be true of 'Personality' based Channels where someone is fooling around and kids find it hilarious, but with channels like ours we want to provide free amazing advice to help our community grow!

      Yesterday I saw an English comedy (Not Monthy Python...) on the television, the dry humour combined with genius behind it/creativity is king approach made someone,s life better... If you think about it deeply: how boring will it be without art?? And to be on topic here: I think it,s very important to ask the question to oneself: What can I add for value to the life of others, what service can I provide by being myself?? With true introspection and knowing yourself truely your message will be more authenthic and you will attract like minded and then work together, its a psychological process too...People CLICK or they don,t...Sting and Stewart didn,t and they are both great...;) As they say: Raise your standards and work hard and smart...And learn how to read people too and think outside the box: Reading books about all kinds of subjects...The more we know the more we don,t know...;)
