Hi +lextildeath Aw shucks! That's extremely kind of you!! I'm so glad to be able to help!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
You present all of the social media stuff in a way that is much more palatable than most on UA-cam do. People make it sound like you have to be more networker than artist or person, you explain logically here how to network by just being yourself on social media
Mr Warren. This was some of the best advivce I have heard out here. As a student at Fullsail in audio productions, I have been struggling getting my work out there even though I have over 30 years experience. Well put together video. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
Very interesting video Warren. I play in two bands and work a day job, just finished my studio build a month ago, and already I have 3 clients lined up that want to come over... I agree with you 100% when you say "Make yourself accessible". That is key! When I'm playing on the weekends, I make sure to chat with people that are there, and be very approachable. That's how I found one of my clients... She sat in with the band and sang a couple tunes with us... I was blown away with her vocal. She's only young, and not a song writer (yet), but her voice is great! I told her about my studio space and I'd love to have her over, no charge, just relax and sing like she did that night. So we now have a plan to get together in the next week or two. She's sent me a few tunes that she likes (and it's great for me... I'm a classic Rock / Blues guy) now I get to hear what young people are excited over... and I told her I'd help sit down and collaborate on a song together and record it. That way she will have something to hand out to people to try to get in to the business, and I'll have something to add to my Resume! It's a win, win!!! Keep up the good work Warren! Danny
Hi +Danny MacNevin Wonderful Danny!! So glad to hear your story, that's fantastic to hear you are doing what it takes, putting yourself out there! We have such an amazing community out there, it's truly incredible! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
These "Dealing with Clients"-series is a new highlight on your channel. I love your approach to the modern studio business, where you are producer and engineer at the same time. You are speaking right out of my chest here! Thanks for this.
Hi +Hellforge Studio Thanks very much! In the Academy people have been asking for this ind of information, so I really want to be able to help everyone grow their business and create and maintain relationships! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Spot on as expected!..all the points are in this video...it is not a business of the meek..you have to be proactive and patient.Interpersonal skills cannot be stressed enough..it is a whole new beast in the modern era isn't it..word of mouth will only get you so far these days..always a pleasure to watch your videos....this old studio rat appreciates it..cheers Warren..keep them coming..
Hi +Str8Jaket3d Thanks for the great comment! I hear you! The great thing about Social Media is we can get ourselves out there! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you so much for the uplifting video. I'm very passionate about music and would love to make a living teaching lessons, recording and mixing and performing with my fiance. I've been feeling down lately about how discouraging starting out can be, but this lifted my spirit up a bit. Thank you kindly 🙏
This is great, Warren! The way our industry works is ever-changing! I completely agree with you on social media and its importance, but we also ought not to 'hide' behind the computer world, and should get out there to gigs and just meet musicians, getting to know them, and finding how we can serve their needs in terms of recording, mixing and mastering etc. Personally, I find that the most challenging! Therefore, I push myself all the more! Thanks, mate.
Hi +Jonny Lipsham Studios Great stuff! Yes get out there and build your social media presence! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
currently i'm working on a project, the full bucket - engineering, producing, recording, mixing, mastering (sort of). they are a couple of local guys, great to work with and to hang around. when they asked me about money, before we started anything, i said don't worry guys, i've never seen lots of money in my life, and i'm not about to now, either. and then, after we stopped laughing, we started planning the work. it's really great heavy music, and also i'm doing everything with free plugins and stuff. even the drums vsti.. i use drumgizmo and i love it. the three of us feel kinda proud for that reason alone.
Hi +Leo Hajder That sounds fantastic! Creating music is such an amazing experience! Make sure you are rewarded for your work, if there is an amazing quality product that sometimes that can be enough as it builds your resume. Each project I do I have to look at it from those parameters. Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you Warren. This was my first viewing. I appreciate your spirit of charity and goodwill. I just subscribed and will be sharing your channel with others. Take care, God bless.
Thanks for posting this Warren, I'm looking to build my client base as a dubbing mixer. All the points you make translate across to broadcast. I do find it a struggle to keep motivated with the social media side.
This is definitely helpful! Maybe you can do a new post about how to deal with the music industry during these COVID-19 Quarantines? And how to navigate an unsure future in the Music Production field
You're a true inspiration, Warren! You've helped me alot these past few months, and I'm truly grateful of your generosity. Have YOURSELF a marvelous time mixing and recording! // Adam from Sweden
Some really important stuff you mention here. It´s easy to forget how easy sosial media could be and how important it is for growing and meeting potential new clients. Thank you for sharing this Warren :D
I think this is one of the most important videos you have done so far. Best piece of advice... BE NICE. I encounter a lot of musicians, engineers, mixers etc. on a regular basis that have a chip on their shoulder and immediately make it a competition, or I went to such and such a school so my degree is better than your degree yadda yadda. The hardest part I find is meeting Good down to earth people that aren't all self important and self-proclaimed rock stars. You're absolutely right, we should be united as people and sharing ideas with each other. Agree 100%. Thank you for sharing your invaluable insight. :)
Hi +David Scott Thanks very much for the kind words and extremely insightful opinion! Yes, agreed 100%! Be a good person, help people, bring out the best in them, encourage and inspire creativity! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
I whished the web had been that educational 15 years ago when I started the same journey as you Warren. I could have skipped a lot of mistakes then. Otherwise those fails of the past helped developing my taste which is irreplaceable. Thanks for doing this Warren and also for beeing that nice at the same time. Keep on keeping! Ebbel
HI +Eike Ebbel Groenewold Thanks very much! I'm extremely glad to be able to help! UA-cam has been a huge help for so many of us! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
actually Im starting my own little Buisness and all your Videos are so inspiring and helpful. Learned so much since Im watching them and get new ideas and motivation to produce like a pro. Also hope you doing marvelous well!!!
Thanks Warren; great advice and an interesting discussion. One thing that has helped me is to remember not to take things personally if someone is rude or unhelpful - they may be having a bad day. A smile always helps : -)
Hi +Arthur Stone I agree!! Artists (even very successful ones) can be very insecure about the smallest details so we have to be supportive and understand that their process may involve a little uncomfortable conversations! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren, You make love every day more this profession. I'm in my last year studying Sound Engineer , I'm starting as producer and these tips are very useful to me . Thank you so much. Have a great Mixing Time !! Greetings from Chile !!!!!!!!!
Really great set of advices. I can feel you lived what you are talking about and that gives you a lot of credibility. Thanks for sharing in such an honest way.
Hi +Music For Media That's very kind of you! Yes, I have definitely lived what I'm talking about! I truly want to help people become better! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great business advice Warren. Thank you so much! I have to be honest, I follow several UA-cam channels of other producers, mixers, and engineers, and while many of them are great, yours has by far the most relevant and useful content. I've been doing this a long time and I still learn something new every time I come here. Keep the great content coming! P.S. Would love to see even more content about the creative/artistic side of producing, like how you work with bands, co-writing, arranging, etc. Those are the areas where I feel like i have the most room to grow, so I know there must be others as well.
Hi +Jeremy Leff Thanks for your extremely kind words! I am so glad you enjoy the videos and I very happy I am able to help! There will definitely be more videos on Production!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren, as inspiring as ever. It really motivates me when I watch this video and think to myself, I'm doing all four points you talked about! Cheers
I've been watching a lot of your videos lately, and I've learned so much. Thanks for all the great information you share. As a young up and coming engineer, I really take a lot from guys like you.
Fantastic advice, Warren. Great insight! I'm looking to get out of my current full-time job to do audio recording full-time. I figured at my age, and doing audio for almost 10 years, I should really make a good stab at it.
Hi +Martin Fantastic! If you like I would recommend checking out the Produce Like A Pro Academy, I don't do a hard sell on it, but it's geared towards people who are looking to do this for a living, the community is really string and there quite a few professionals in there. Try the 14 day free trial and see what you think! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I would add something!! People who own a Home Studio usually can't offer a great sound quality but a great price. What I felt the most important of my clients is that, you have to make sure what they are paying is worth, and the best: that they would came again!! Independently that someone gives them a greater sound but for 1000$ more. I recently worked as a musician with another producer, and I felt like his work was SO expensive, and that made me feel not very happy with the final result, so that I would not come back. Thanks as always W!
Hi +Mark Richmans (Kittus) Thanks for the great comment! Yes, as a Musician I would frequently get frustrated by 'professional and expensive' Producers and Engineers who didn't show the right amount of care and attention! That level what makes the difference, not the gear! I am constantly blown away with the amazing quality of material I hear from home studios! I used BVs from a Garageband session that were recorded on an internal mic of a lap top in an airport terminal and that song did great! I often atlas about Lorde 'Royals' and how that could have been Produced by anyone on any DAW, it's her performance that makes the song! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi Warren, I love your videos and how your so interactive with your audience and fan base. Do you have any videos talking about your Journey and career? I find it interesting how you didnt do the typical audio intern/Uni route and would like to know more! Happy new year! - Brent.
Hi Warren,As I am a major Elvis fan but not wanting to be annoying,Willie Nelson wrote Always On My Mind which Elvis recorded in 1972.But like you said there's no better version of the two.Suspicious Minds was written by songwriter Mark James.
Hi +Omar America-Adams You are 100% right! My mistake! Thanks for correcting me on that! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Allways a great video with great content! I have made a clean in my subscriptions in youtube and that left me more time for the real good ones like yours!!! Many Thankz!!!
Hi +Nugget2131 Thanks vey much! I'm glad it helps! It's wonderful to be able to have this conversation with everyone! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hi warren! Thanks so much for this :) Even though I'm in a different world in music to you guys (composing scores and arranging) its the same relationship building :) I hope some day I can be working with people from this community :) Bless
Hi +Invictus Antithesis I was going to recently, I had some other speakers from another company that were more affordable but they wanted them back before I could schedule it! C'est la vie! Making videos and making music 12 hours a day! Haha Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren. great video as always. And great words on this one.! Coop is key, indeed. The 20% left handed may have an advantage in combat against the 80% right handed (ever tried to fence with a left-handed?) but this advantage fades away as shaking one's hand is more complicated when left handed... 80% coop, 20% competition...Impossible to steal one's creativity. Wrt the Unity Super Rocks, I had the opportunity to briefly listen to them today. You're right, great low mids and very precise. Using co-axial so not sure if they'll be a good match for my set-up though. Will try. Again, thx for all your great content! Please keep on sharing with us the maverllous time you have recording and bring us inteviews of people who have a marvellous time recording too!
Hi +Pascal Clerotte Fantastic analogy! I really appreciate your kind words and great insight! Yes, I'm enjoying the Unity's. Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Another great video & article. Thanks for all the work you do Warren. You're fast becoming one of my favourite producing resources. You're a very clear communicator with a wealth of useful knowledge. Re: finding production work: I'm actually finding it a little difficult balancing being a touring original artist and establishing myself as a producer. The beauty of touring is that I meet and garner respect from other artists because of my own music, but I am trying to structure my life so I don't tour quite as much (after almost 2 decades as an independent artist, it gets tiring), so I cut back on touring last year & found that directly effected interest in my production work, so I'd like to utilise the net more to find artists. I'd love to pick your brain for more details with that side of things. On another note, after hearing your awesome work with Trevor Hall I got interested in hiring you to record one of my albums! I will be returning to LA next year (I'm based in Australia) to tour (I love playing venues like the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood - I'm sure you must know it) so perhaps that wish can be manifested! Anyway, I didn't mean to write this much, but huge thanks to you mate. :D
Hi +Nathan Kaye Thanks very so much for your incredible comment! I really appreciate it! Yes I love Trevor! He's an amazing artist! Yes of course please send me some music and let me know how many songs you want to record! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
It's so awesome that you take the time to reply to everyone on all your social networks. Thanks for that. I appreciate how much time it takes to respond to people. I will be sure to send you some tunes when the time comes for booking the next album's recording in LA. Keep shining mate! :D
Mate, I love this ! true words and these words can work towards not just music but any career a person decides to take in any form. Words not heard or spoken enough and words from the school of experience and hard nocks. LOVE IT hope your well mate
Hi +Garry King Thanks for your kind words! Yes experience is definitely the best teacher!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
I'm starting to get mixing requests from friends, and I've just been asking for beer/pizza as payment. I generally don't expect them to follow up and I don't push it at all since they are friends, but not having to spend as much money on beer and pizza is the same thing as getting payed anyway!
Wao! I loved this video. I speak for me, you are motivating me more that i am already. My name is Natdiel, i am from Dominican Republic, and I have a question for you: I heard that you didn't go to a music school, am i in a mistake? If is true, do you have some advice to improve musician's skills from the point of view of a producer?
Hi +Natdiel Geronimo So glad you enjoy the videos! Hello in the Dominican Republic! Yes you are correct, I did not go to music school, I learned by applying myself and becoming a better musician! I took those skills and applied them to Production! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro too bad, would have loved to stumple into you there :) still wanna play you my version of 'Heroes' soon... Take care and keep it up!
Hi +Conny Conrad Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Best of luck with the mix! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Hi Warren, I do value your advise and I absolutely agree with you. However, it feels a little bit geared towards independent entrepreneurs, who already have, or can afford a basic studio setup, which is fine, the advise is still universally good.. But what do you think of people who took advantage of Various recording schools and 'Music Tech' university courses ? - these are people with relatively basic experience (regardless of their talent/skill level), no gear ('cause student debts), small portfolio and high hopes of getting a job in a studio by simply sending a CV... So far what I gathered form my research is that all the 'conventional' sound engineering education is a total scam, but does a degree in sound engineering give you any advantage over someone with no degree but lots of experience ?
Hi +BoilingJD Thanks for your comment! My advice is really for everyone, if you read the corresponding blog on the PLAP website you'll see I was talking bout a used ADAT and a really cheap console, these days for even less than I spent on the used ADAT I can get better results with an entry level interface and DAW. It's a huge conversation about education, as you may have seen I didn't go to School, but I have a few people who I work with who did and they very talented. I will say a huge amount of creativity comes from the un schooled, so if you are going to go to go school make sure that you are working on your own music outside of class and developing your skill set! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
+Produce Like A Pro Thanks Warren, the question of Sound Engineering/Music Tech education is a very interesting one. Historically, sound engineering hasn't been something people went to University for, but now here in England it is becoming very common, almost every university in London offers some sort of 'Music Tech' course. However, in my opinion it does feel as effective as a degree in liberal arts - Proves nothing. Have a marvelous time responding to ten thousand comment Warren!
Hi +BoilingJD Thanks for your response! I didn't know that those courses in England were growing, as you probably know I didn't go to School for this, but I have been doing quite a while and have acquired a lot of information! I value Schooling if you are teachable, but merely going to do a degree won;t work unless the student is truly committed and wants to soak up information and also apply it to their musical career outside of the school. Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great as always!!! Thanks again! And btw: did you ever think about a career as an actor? You would be a perfect Doctor Who xD (Hope you dont get me wrong! I just love this show!!! ;-) )
Hello!! I really like your videos, please continue making them; ) I have a question for you: I have seen that has the new monitors "Unity audio Super Rock" Is it worth buying the new "Super Rock"? I wanted to buy some good monitors for mixing, taking into account that will use Sub-Woofer. Options: PMC two two six - lipisnki l-70 - audio unity (the rock or super rock) What do you recommend? I have no chance to try. Thank you very much!! A greeting from Valencia-Spain
Hi +Alex Working Great question! So far I have been loving the Super Rocks, I used them with Jack Douglas and we loved them! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I think i've said this before, but every time I looked for a singer it was a hobbyist that said yes then never herd from them again. Happened too many times I gave up and sang myself instead. how do you separate the hobbyist's from those who are serious and don't just sing in the shower for fun? Also I don't want to work with "rent a singers" (singers that provide a service you pay just for each song instead of building an album together and sharing royalty cut) . Would still want to try it out one day , haven't given up completely in working with others.
***** Thanks i'll try it. My problem is mostly finding someone who will actually work with me instead of talking about it then never hearing from them. But if i didn't get impatient and sing myself i wouldn't know i can actually do it and get really far in it. But i can't sing like a girl so i need a female singer lol. Always love new material to work with so i do many voices and styles. Here's my soundcloud with some of my stuff. soundcloud.com/chaotic-sonics . Recently been doing this hybrid EDM metal thing and getting more into mixing recordings with electronic sounds. If you know a female singer let me know i'll take any style of singing! I'll check out Kompoz and see what it's all about as well. Thanks again!!!
Hi +blood lord (Chaotic Sonics) The answer for me is to keep trying, sometimes I have to go through a lot of people before I find the right ones to work with! That includes musicians, mixers, arrangers, managers, you name it! The great ones tick around in your life, the negative ones who don't follow through or have a hidden agenda will drop away! Keep at it, it will click, it just might take some time! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Thanks! yep i'm still looking, haven't gave up. But i have built a bigger "resume" with the songs i've finished after teaching myself to sing. Can now do a duet! Which is what i'm really looking for.
Hi +blood lord (Chaotic Sonics) Perfect! Resume with yours or other peoples songs is a great resume!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

+Produce Like A Pro Cheers, Warren. I'll certainly take a look!
Hi+Martin Great! Let me know what you think!!
Very timely video, Warren. This information is very useful for young Engineers starting, like me :) Thank you for the channel.
Hi +Lyle Miller That's great to hear! I hope you have an amazing journey! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

Happy new year! - Brent.
Great video - even to this day it's relevant. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Warren,As I am a major Elvis fan but not wanting to be annoying,Willie Nelson wrote Always On My Mind which Elvis recorded in 1972.But like you said there's no better version of the two.Suspicious Minds was written by songwriter Mark James.

Great, GREAT video, thanks so much Warren.
Hi +no google plus You're welcome! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Hey Warren. great video as always.
Great video and fantastic insight and info.
Hi +TD Ashton You Rock! Very kind of you to say! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

Thanks Rene!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you Warren.
Hi +MrDjspice1 Thanks for watching!!
Hi+Nathan Kaye Thanks very much for your kind words I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Hi +BigBlueSpaceGoat Haha nice!! Hey you might be on to something there! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Hi +ROTTER STUDIOS Thanks very much!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

I want to know who are the 4 people that clicked the dislike button :/ Good Job Warren
Wow, excellent information!! I really liked this article!!

Hi +Conny Conrad Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Best of luck with the mix! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
So good!
Thanks ever so much
Hi Warren, I do value your advise and I absolutely agree with you.
Great job!
Hi +flxborja Thanks very much!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank You.
Hi +Mirock Thank YOU!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

Hi +emvau01 Haha I LOVE Dr Who!! Have a marvellous time reaching and mixing, many thanks Warren

thank you
Hi +- Live For Sound - You're welcome!! Have a marvelous time recording and mixing! Many thanks Warren
Best to you too
Hello!! I really like your videos, please continue making them; )
I have a question for you:
I have seen that has the new monitors "Unity audio Super Rock"
Is it worth buying the new "Super Rock"? I wanted to buy some good monitors for mixing, taking into account that will use Sub-Woofer.
Options: PMC two two six - lipisnki l-70 - audio unity (the rock or super rock)
What do you recommend?
*****
Thanks i'll try it.
Produce Like A Pro
Thanks! yep i'm still looking, haven't gave up.
