Hi Friends, what an amazing first day at NAMM! I met so many people looked at so much incredible equipment! There’s two giveaways in the video! One from Spectra Sonics, an amazing Mic Pre that gives us the sound of those great Ardent and Record Plant recordings and a product I get asked about A LOT the Radial ReAmp box! Plus attendees ask me the questions they’ve always wanted to ask me in today’s FAQ Friday! AND some impromptu interviews! Have a marvellous day!!
Never a condescending word when answering and communicating with people. You're doing a great thing at the NAMM. This video continues to show your humanity! Great job Warren.
Hi Zorro in Hell that is so kind of you my friend! I appreciate that! Yes, I love how humble guys I admire are! Guys that are still learning! Not the experts you tell us we are doing it wrong!! Haha I’m still making it up as I go haha
Love what you said at about 14.50 about getting your head out of the box and getting back into the moment with the artist. I've been guilty of that many times, and the times I stepped back and engaged the artist more always led to better recordings, or even took the recording in a new and unexpected direction! it's hard, especially when working by yourself, you get so focused in trying to get everything right that you forget that there is a human being in a booth dealing with their own insecurities and worries. Really cool (and humbling) to know that someone of your caliber has struggled with the same issues! Thanks for sharing so much of your experience with us!
Thanks ever so much Riad! I really appreciate it! Yes, we are all just working at our craft, there are some self proclaimed geniuses out there! Haha I'm just another guy like you trying to do the best I can and looking to help others grow!
Absolutely agree, those who boast wildly seldom have much to boast about. Any time I hear somone say how amazing they are I tend to stop listening. Doesn't matter if it is tech, music or whatever. You, Rick Beato, Aimee Nolte, Nahre Sol, etc.. don't boast and you are amazing at what you do.
As I learned more and got better equipment, I've re-done a couple of my older songs and sometimes I've made some pretty big changes. It's kind of fun to try to see what you can do differently when you aren't ingrained in the way you did it originally.
HI Warren, I've seen most of your videos and they have been invaluable to me in my journey in recording and mixing. Have you thought about doing a video about your editing process for guitars and bass? There are so many mixing videos on youtube, but good videos about the process from the tracking to the mix phase are lacking (good ones at least).
Damn that reamp box would help right now, instruments almost recorded and reamping going to be done once everything's complete. Debut full-length in the works.
It's amazing to see even a small fraction of the new gear at NAMM. The questions from the floor are great too. The response to the rock/gritty/noisy guitar brings up another question: how do you handle an amp that has a low level background hiss (like the JC-120)? My first thought is to gate it. Any other approaches?
Marvellous question! I deal with low level hiss by letting it go, unless it's on it's own on the track, then I might use a software to reduce it. However only when it's standing on it's own!
Warren I know you use Logic Pro X for sounds on occasion, Please. please please do a review/walk through of the new Logic pro X 10.4. Specifically the new reverbs and vintage EQ's that now come with Logic. Love to get your take! They seem to be stepping up their game! Thanks Warren!
What room at Conway were you referring to while talking about getting a great drum sound? ("C' looks like the least problematic for room modes *edit*: Plus, looks to be the highest ceiling) Anyway, I'd love if you could let me know... Great video as usual BTW..
Your opinion on getting the right sound for rock out of vintage drums vs new drums? I have a 1969 Slingerland Mahogany kit with a 24 inch kick. Wondering what, if anything, you would suggest I do differently with these drums as opposed to something newer.
Hi Luuk Meijwaard great question! Yes, if they very modern they may sound quite different to a vintage kit. Some modern kits though are designed to sound Vintage
Heeyyy! Im first :P Ah what is that intro track? i just love it also is there anyway i can send you my edit of workday release! Would love to listen to your feedback :)
When you mentioned "analog emulation" in the question about getting a good guitar sound, could doing some actual analog summing through an analog board that I have (Soundcraft Signature 22) also achieve this? Or are you simply suggesting some sort of analog emulation plugin or software?
Hi Lazlo, I was suggesting a Plug In emulation, however you could try summing and see how that works for you! Experiment and see if it creates the sound you hear in your head!
Great video, charming and lovely as always... but one little problem here?! Why not de-clip your audio? send it to me and ill run it through pro-tools XD
