I am just starting my Drone journey, initially thought about using it on holidays....but now after watching this informative video from Nigel i feel inspired....exciting times...
Hey, Nigel, The past 18 months I believe I've seen all of your videos. Some, I've watched a second time, and several have been referred to a couple of my photo friends. Some feedback: I'm "good" enough that I know the kinds of information you share about lens choices, tripods, filters, shutter speeds/apertures, what to do/what not to do, etc. What I enjoy most is the segments where you approach an area and talk to us about what you see and how you will address it as you factor in light, weather, wind, or too-busy or chaotic settings. (I truly envy those foggy days and gnarly, mossy trees you feature periodically. Those are rare in the U.S. Rockies.) I think most of us experienced landscape shooters benefit from hearing how someone else solves the challenges or chooses the compositions. Last, as my back and leg issues complicate my plans for long hikes and rugged, steep terrain, I've been thinking more about drone photography. I always note the drone work you intersperse with your walking and site overviews. I won't ask you to mention specific gear (unless you're free to) but what basic parameters (sensor type, size, maker, controls, range, etc.) would you suggest to someone who wants to make very good still photos and print, up to 20"x30" size? Last, I see that you frequently fly over deep ravines, off a coast line, or over rivers. Do you control them only within line of sight or can they be managed over a ridge or around an outcropping? Have you ever lost a drone and been unable to rescue/retrieve it? Thanks.
OMG this video is AMAZING, you not just shared tips and techniques but you just explained some settings in the LR that i didn't know how to use. Thank you :)
I am a beginner as a youtuber blogger, you know this video is great for all of us and so many people watched and subscribed, I hope many of you like those who watched ... I hope when the day comes I will be just like you as a youtuber bloger ... thank you very much MJV Philippines
Nigel your video is very useful to understand the settings on the Mavic and then correctly develop the RAW files. Thanks for the amazing job you've done!
Somehow I've only just caught up with this. Another brilliant tutorial, Nigel. Many thanks. Looking to put some of these techniques to good use in my photography and drone films.
I just stumbled on this older video but couldn't help but comment on that photo at the beginning of the silhouetted person in the mountain-scape. It's such a cool picture! Thanks for the inspiration!
I like your video very much. I have an Mavic but all the snow in the Swedish montains have stopped me from experiments. Earlier I had interest in photos from natures with my Nikon but after your video I think I can combine my interest. Thanks Nigel
You make a good point in utilizing the mavic not just for its video capabilities but for landscape photography as well. I'm going to give it a go! Thx! Great content.
This the first vlog I’ve watched that I totally engaged with, on landscape photography and aerial photography spot on and really useful information, also very temped at your workshops
Chris DeAntonio You May have the beginning of a-fib, where your heart takes an erratic best profile, up and down in BPM. Mine started after a surgery on my neck and got worst after chemo therapy. Initially, it was only the right side of my heart, and triggered by a bit of stress or exciting incidents, then over time to both sides of my heart, with up to 200 BPM. It was definitely a ‘felt’ state. The problem was my heart was emptying with each beat 20% less, so there was 20% less oxygen available, and exhaustion was a constant issue. I would have rest times of 6-7 hours without any, then 7-9 hours with a-fib. The rest of my heart was in excellent condition. The less volume of each beat means that some blood can stagnate and then clot in your heart, creating the possibility of a stroke or pulmonary embolism (small ones are very painful, large ones are deadly). Get a cardiologist to put a small monitor on for 24 hours and go fly and do other things to see if you have a problem. My heart just got ‘fixed’ through ablation at a top of the line hospital in Seattle - Virginia Mason. I was very active, even so, but with a lot less endurance, but am now back to building that back up. I still ski, fly airplanes, sail and hike, and am looking forward to using my Mavic 2 (1st drone) for photography and trying some cinematography. I am a doctor, so was very aware of the issues, and what the consequences were. You can get a pulse oximeter ($39.00) from SPORTY’s PILOT SHOP and monitor your heart rate and oxygen level.
Nice video. People care too much about getting the newest drone. But you show it is more important to care about light and creative thinking. Well done.
Great video. Drone photography is a game changer. Like you said, it gives you 360 degree access to a scene. I got my first drone 6 months ago, a DJI Mini 3 Pro. Loved it so much I recently got the Mavic 3 Pro. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Nigel great informative videos. I'm new to drone photography and I am totally enjoying and feel like it has opened a massive door for my photography and like you said compositions are easy to create. Been shooting normal on the ground for 20+ yrs and a drone offers a different perspective.
Hi Nigel. I have just got into photography, at the grand old age of 59 and joined a local photography club. I doubt very much I will ever be as good as you, or the rest of the guys in the club but it is a great hobby. Thank you for the inspiration you have given me :-) Best Regards.
As a new drone pilot/photographer I appreciate your insights on the technical side of the photos. I look forward to getting a better handle on the camera settings for my Mavic Pro Platinum. It took sharp pictures right out of the box and naturally I went to UA-cam to get suggested settings and now get real soft out of focus photos. I need to get back to a factory setting and just play with composition and using the natural light for enhancements. I look forward to learning from what you have to share.
Hello Nigel! Very nice video - Thank you. I am going to buy the new Mavic Air and will try to make some nice rain forest and nature photos around our hotel with it in Costa Rica. Your beautiful photos with the morning light and the mist where a big inspiration for me...
Great video tutorial. Fantastic shots! I just started experimenting with taking aerial videos in the Wasatch mountains in Utah. I'll be posting one video on my UA-cam channel today.
Is the place starting from 1:31 the loughrigg Fell in lake district? Looks amazing! I have seen a similar weather and nice view last autumn but I have no drone at that time.
It just dawned on me about my composition is the part with the viaduct, if i was on location i wouldn’t know how i would critique my own composition on the spot to get your image. I said it like that because i feel that your composition of the viaduct is really strong and very refined for that location and for that atmosphere.
I couldn't agree more about the straight down perspective with drone photography. Just about every other video I've seen on the subject highly recommends it, but to me it's a really niche technique that should be used extremely sparingly, particularly if your goal is good landscape photography. Thanks for the input & information.
Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to share your experience, settings, and beautiful photography! I'm a new fan, and I also have a Mavic. Just starting to learn. I really have a passion for aerial photography and I hope to be able to make money....somehow, doing just that. Have a blessed week, and thanks again!!!
Loads of food for thought here Nigel, particularly in terms of perspective and viewpoint. A drone is very much on my wish list and its moved up a couple of places after watching your great VLOG!! Would love to see more of your drone shots in the future please. Huge thanks for sharing and keep 'em coming please Nigel.
Thank you so much . Had no idea the mavic could do this. Just back from my third flight and just found out by accident that it took photos. Your video is great and something for me to try on my next outing. thank you
Looks like i really need to get lightroom to start doing some photography or rather do it far better, thanks for the tips i find picture set up and manipulation the hardest thing to learn
Really helpful video Nigel! Am thinking of taking the plunge into Drone photography as i find myself often wishing i could get a higher perspective in certain situations. Great video and images! keep them coming! Thanks Liam
Thanks Nigel, really love your passion and approach to this. I find that colour grading and trying to get the right shot is hard with drones at the moment but your easy approach and simple tips have really made me want to give it another shot! Thank you!
Really enjoyed this Nigel. I have a Phantom 4 Pro +. I love the perspectives I can get out here in Arizona and Utah. Thanks for all the great advice and insights.
Great video. Most people see a drone and assume it’s for video. I have a DJI Spark, which is perfect for throwing in my camera bag and using to get whole new perspectives.
The two most important things in landscape photography; composition and light. A drone maximises the possibility of getting both. I’ve been a photographer for many years and it was so exciting to take my first flight and the possibilities were immediately apparent. My power of my full frame DSLR didn’t seem much of an advantage anymore.
Thanks for this video. You've taught me more with this video than countless other photography channels ever have. All practical information for things I'm actually going to use every day. Even explaining the 4:3 over 16:9. Other people just say "Use 4:3 because it's the best" and leave it at that. You actually explained WHY! Made my day dude. Thanks.
There are others who say that the Mavic is good but not great for in case you want to make professional photos! I believe is about knowing the limitations of your hardware and plan shots accordingly. However, I went for the Mavic air mainly for portability waiting to receive it thought. Thanks for the video

I learned so much from Nigel and Mads more than I learned from my Film and Photography school!
I've watched lots of videos/tutorials about drone photography but yours is up there! Subscribed!
Fantastic tutorial. I'm amazed by the detail from the sensor on that drone. Lets hope for some better weather so I can get out and shoot.
OMG this video is AMAZING, you not just shared tips and techniques but you just explained some settings in the LR that i didn't know how to use. Thank you :)

Your video is great, thank you so much for explaining in simple word how to use the drone for great photo.
I like your video very much. I have an Mavic but all the snow in the Swedish montains have stopped me from experiments.

Another good video Nigel! Drones are a fantastic new tool for landscape photographers as cameras and technology is improving.
+Patric Arvidsson certainly are! Love them
Thanks Nigel for sharing this and a little bit of Lightroom!
You make a good point in utilizing the mavic not just for its video capabilities but for landscape photography as well. I'm going to give it a go! Thx! Great content.

Ditto Nigel I’ve done exactly the same some really good photos to be had, great Video again Nigel
thanks for the tips, looking forward to using them.Great work
Does anyone else's heart race before, during, and after flying your drone or is it just me?!
It's just you...
I suppossed was just me, LoL! I feel like flying when i use my drone! Is it the same for u?
Chris DeAntonio Absolutely! Every time I fly my Inspire 2 I am in a different zone and enjoying every minute of it!
Eleonora Usai absolutely! I can relate to what you said about feeling like a bird when flying your drone.
Chris DeAntonio You May have the beginning of a-fib, where your heart takes an erratic best profile, up and down in BPM. Mine started after a surgery on my neck and got worst after chemo therapy. Amazing images Nigel from a beautiful part of the country
Great compositions.. and thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing all these pro tips with us common folk. You my sir are a master of the trade!!!
Nice video. People care too much about getting the newest drone. But you show it is more important to care about light and creative thinking. Well done.
Creativity is no1! Tool is secondary. We never talk about da Vinci’s brushes
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks man!! Awesome job on this video!
Absolutely fantastic tutorial. Thank you!
Many thanks for your video Nigel. It was really interesting to confirm some of the sets to my Mavic. Thanks for your suggestions. Regards from Chile.
