Yeah I think when almost every Marvel show or movie needs to connect to the MCU in someway and for lack of a better word practically be a commercial to advertise the next movie it stops these films & shows from standing on their own and makes them less unique & interesting.

It’s funny that every non-Marvel fan turns to Thor Ragnorak, The Guardians, and Black Panther as the most digestible of the MCU. They’re the only ones that remotely feel like stand alone films that work more towards developing characters than setting up future installments. That and (like WandaVision) they have a unique voice and utilize their mediums in interesting ways to enhance the stories they’re telling

    • @Hi-ky2wd

I loved the Guardians and I didn’t even know that they were MARVEL until Infinity War. Either way the point of MARVEL is that it is one big story. So if a person were to just watch a few movies they would like the more individual ones the most because you don’t need to watch the rest to understand and they would make the most sense. I big MARVEL fan would have watched all or at least the majority of movies so they would like more than just the individual ones. Also my explanation of what is in my mind isn’t very good. I really ain’t explaining this properly.

I definitely preferred the first half of the series. I never really cared for Marvel stuff and when it turned into a normal superhero flick in the last half I was disappointed. I loved the Twilight Zone/Trumann Show vibes of the first half, a show only about saving someone from their own sitcom would be fun.

Up until episode 4 the show was just a sitcom that went through the decades. Not saying that is bad, but it is a superhero show not a sitcom. Not going to lie I actually really liked the episode where they put on the magic show.

@@DrawpinionDump That... isn't what happened, actually, from the confirmed interview. It isn't like the changes happened to fan theories. It was more like there was a deleted scene they cut that felt like too much of a detour, and they had cut down on episodes before shooting, and had made changes through production. It isn't like they looked at fans theories while things were going on and changed it while the show was airing. It was more like they constantly were editing while in production, which is kind of a thing that happens anyway. Your journey through the MCU is similar to mine; I started out intrigued and excited and slowly lost interest over time. I really liked Vision and Wanda as a couple, so you can imagine the ending to Infinity War really tanked what emotional investment I still had in the universe as a whole, lol. I felt like the ending was rushed and a little disappointing. Everyone knew Agnes was the bad guy and so we were expecting that there must be a bigger bad guy especially with the way they kept mentioning Agnes's husband Ralph, and fake Pietro. And then I would've like to have seen Wanda trying to get over her issues more. I feel like they should've revealed more parts of her backstory in other episodes instead of one episode. I think the 2 plots should've been reversed. More episodes about Wanda and her past, and then only a few telling us what's happening on the outside of the hex. They also set up an arc for Darcy, Wu, and Monica, but they don't go anywhere. We learn that Wu wants a family, and Monica wants to be taken seriously, but it doesn't feel complete.

Honestly, when I watched it, I thought the Agatha reveal was a double twist. It seemed so cliche that it must *still* be a result of Wanda's fantasy. That when the fantasy started falling apart, Wanda needed an antagonist to explain why everything was going wrong, so she rewrote Agnes' backstory to make her one. It would've made more sense from a character perspective than just saying everything bad was a result of one lesser known Marvel character who was secretly there the whole time.

There are people who get all worked up about casting originally white characters as POC in the superhero industry but then don't bring up how Huntress has been mixed/black in comics since 2014, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are Jewish Romani, Dick Grayson is Romani, Damian Wayne is of Arab & Chinese descent, Harley Quinn is Jewish, White Canary is Chinese in the comics, etc... You can tell that for many of these critics that their priority is more about keeping DC and Marvel white and less about canon.

I agree with your opinions on most of the side characters, I still think it's important to view their arcs from the perspective of the entire MCU and not just from this show. Like for example you can tell that Darcy is not the same person from the Dark World given her promotions and such.
Jimmy Woo finally learned how to perform card tricks I guess since Ant Man and the Wasp lol but that one is obviously a stretch.
They also hint at certain character traits with Monica involving her and Carol Danvers that I hope we get more of in Captain Marvel two but I agree that more interaction with Wanda would have been nice.
And again, some of these characters are just now being introduced and I'm positive we'll get more of Agatha eventually.

Honestly, if Disney didn't try to run a monopoly and bring other companies down and let them have a different interpretation, these types of conversations probably wouldn't be as heavy loaded as they are. They would basically just be "this is where the movie went wrong, here is a movie that is trying to succeed at where it went wrong, no movie is perfect though here are some things they could've done to round it out more" No muss and no fuss, controversy can be avoided by everyone and everyone can be happy if they want to be. If they don't want to be then it isn't the end of the world, you have another franchise you can go to that you can escape the whole criticism from, heck, you can even turn off social media and pick and choose your friends and battles. There is no problem there because there is a toxic and a positive zone, with the positive Zone becoming more and more prevalent, see this is how you grow a community.

Excellent critique, but I do have one gripe. It _is_ made more-or-less clear what the true extent of "Pietro's" identity is. He's actually just a Westview citizen named Ralph Bohner that Agatha turned into a "re-cast" Pietro so that she could A) mess with Wanda, and B) attempt to coax out of her the answer as to how she created the Hex. The road for any potential future properties he could inspire is essentially a dead end. I think he was just meant to be fanservice, both because A) he dresses up like the original comic book Quicksilver in the Halloween episode, like how Wanda and Vision do the same, and B) he's portrayed by the same actor who played Quicksilver in the X-Men movies.

I think making Agatha a villain was unnecessary and they should have just left Wanda as both the protagonist and antagonist. She grows in character and in the end defeats herself. Either way the whole “they will never understand what you gave up” is a stretch. She took a whole town hostage and made them feel her grief. Yes she was depressed but don’t except forgiveness. In the comics, Wanda and Pietro are the children of Magneto, who is a Jewish Holocaust survivor, and his wife Magda, who is a Romani woman. Their heritage is a major part of their characterization in the comics and plays a huge role in the struggles they face (considering that they were originally linked to the x-men whose stories are supposed to be an allegory for the civil rights movement and the struggle against oppression in general). The fact that the MCU ignores really rubbed me the wrong way

I think the mcu, for better and for worse, has fully emulated the comic book storytelling structure of story setting up and referencing every other story in the universe. it's a big reason as to why I don't read comics- the sheer archive panic of it- and it's what I see being the biggest hurdle in drawing in new fans for the marvel movies. Snyderverse aside, what I'm appreciating from DC's current cinematic releases is the fact that they've seemed to do away with the whole interconnected universe. they may have hints of being in the same universe like a cameo in Shazam or Birds of Prey starring Margot's Harley, but they are first and foremost standalone stories and there's no plans for a big crossover or anything. I hoped that Endgame being done and over with meant that marvel was heading in a similar direction, but apparently not- but I still am hopeful that good stories are to come.

The show made the point in saying that wanda's magic is chaos born more of her grief than actual conscious thought. She accepted the world around her because she didn't really know what was going on and only actively changed things when outside forces were involved. Agnes was able to manipulate her by playing into what she wanted and convincing her that her actions were part of the story. Like how everything got more complicated as a shows went through the decades, Agnes made bigger and bigger problems for Wanda to solve causing strain on her mentally.

I loved the sitcom style and the mystery of why it was happening, and I’m not even against the agents part of the story, but I would’ve loved if we got a bit longer without everything being explained.
And especially i would’ve preferred if Agatha was either a regular neighbor or a red herring, and instead of a random Salem-style witch being the bad guy there was just... no bad guy. Just a character grieving and developing as a person, and moving on. I’m not even completely against bringing Vision back to life, since I like happy endings, just as a lot of people have said, don’t end your cool creative sitcom spoof style show with a big sky cgi battle between witches, then say “come back to these two upcoming movies to see what happens next.”

      @mlsdreavusjargon6910 3 роки тому

I think we’re working on a different opinion of what “anything explained” mean probably. We don’t get every single thing explained until the penultimate episode, there are still surprises until then, but we do get a considerable number of things explained in episode 4, like whether this is happening in the real world or being imagined, what those bits like the red helicopter and radio message were, how Monica got into the show, how the real world is reacting to this, etc. There are still answers yet to be explained, but the general sense of mysteriousness that comes from only seeing these events through the eyes of Wanda’s sitcom world does go away, so we don’t really get that sense of uneasiness when something in her world doesn’t go as planned as much after that point, because we’re also seeing the context of how it happened.
Not really sure what you mean by it “makes no kind of sense on any level”? It does, I have two options I would’ve preferred for the show to have gone with, one being having Agnes be a regular neighbor who maybe looks suspicious, but ultimately is harmless but nosy, and another being Agnes being revealed as Agatha, but we later learn that this was a scripted reveal and all part of the plan of Wanda’s sitcom world, as a way of projecting her guilt from hurting these people onto a third party bad guy, rather than herself. I didn’t come up with that second option myself btw, just heard someone explain it and I like the idea of it.
I didn’t say don’t add conflict, I said don’t add a Salem-witch style bad guy. There would still be plenty of conflict, just not with a bad guy to fight at the end. The theory I explained of Agatha being another part of Wanda’s reality, there for her to blame instead of herself, would be conflict, but that conflict would ultimately lead to a different conclusion than her fighting a witch in the sky, because it’s an internal problem with herself. Plenty of romance stories have lots of conflict while having zero bad guys, because the conflict is a difference of characters’ feelings, beliefs, maybe internal conflict one character is feeling impact another negatively and there’s fallout from that. Sports shows (scripted shows around sports, not real life sports) have heaps of conflict, but often there’s no bad guy, just multiple people or groups with clashing philosophies about how to play the sport, hard work vs natural talent etc. Neither side is ultimately the bad guy that should be defeated or is defeated, they’re both sides you could cheer for, depending on how you relate to the characters, but there is still tension and conflict between them. Back to Wandavision, there could be plenty of conflict between her and fake-guilt-projection-Agatha, concluding with her stopping her by accepting that she did this, meaning Agatha ceases to exist, or in the case that Agnes is a harmless neighbor, there could be conflict between her and Vision, her kids, and the agents trying to stop her. There already is conflict between her and Vision, and her and the agents in the show as it is now. Vision could be the one to convince her of the pain she’s inflicting on the residents, or how she should let him go to spare them, that sort of thing, rather than being something Agatha shows her.
Yeah that is in the show, but my line was more saying “just” that. Like her doing that, without Agatha showing up and being the thing she had to fight. It’s connected to what I was saying earlier, Wanda’s actions are the things she has to come to terms with and fix, and throughout the course of the show she develops as a character, without a bad guy to fight at the end.
They didn’t bring the old Vision back to life, but they did restore his body, then fake Vision restored at least part of his memories, so it’s left open-ended that he could still eventually, be back as a character. That’s what I was referring to.
I didn’t say it shouldn’t have a climax, of course it should, it’s just again related to the misunderstanding from earlier, it could have been a climax based more on introspection or Wanda realizing something about herself, either by herself of through interactions with Monica or fake Vision, and treating it more like “Wanda’s inability to fully accept and grieve for her loss, and her refusal to accept that the solution she created for herself is hurting those around her, is the ‘antagonist’ that she needs to defeat.” She rises above the part of herself that forced other people to experience pain so she could live her ideal life, and comes out better and stronger for it. She develops, she defeats her “antagonist”, there’s a climax, but there no battle with a murderous witch, just flawed but well-meaning intentions, and Wanda’s friends and family trying to help her, and maybe having to fight her to get through to her at some point.
There is “a” conclusion in the final episode, but it’s clearly not a fully closed one. We still don’t know where the real Vision is or whether he will find Wanda, we don’t know almost anything about Monica’s powers, or whether she’ll become a hero, or what she will do, beyond going to space, we don’t know what will happen with Wanda, whether the Dark Hold with corrupt her, whether she will find happiness or peace, whether she’ll ever see her children again, or whether she ever does unlock Agatha’s true personality like she predicted she’d need to. And I don’t think it’s a “it’s an ending where it’s left open to interpret for the viewers”, I think it’s definitely a “to see what happens next, people will need to see our future installments, as from what I can tell, Wanda is going to appear in a future movie with Dr Strange, so her story definitely isn’t over, and stories that aim to tie everything together conclusively don’t tend to end with two separate teaser scenes in the credits, that offer no actual resolution, only ask new questions. The last thing we see Wanda do is ominously reading the Dark Hold, then hearing her kids yell out to her, that doesn’t conclude anything about her story, if anything the story with her kids was more conclusive before that scene, we saw her say goodbye to them before letting their world die to save those she’d trapped within it - now, 5 seconds before the end of the series, were given new information and zero conclusion to them, only an idea of what might happen in the future. To see what happens next to Wanda, you need to watch a future movie/series; to see what happens next with Vision, you need to watch a future thing; to see what happens with her kids, you need to watch a future thing; to see what happens next with Monica, you need to watch a future thing; and to even know what Agatha was talking about when she said “you’ll need me” or something like that, you need to watch a future thing. I feel like certain plots have been both created and concluded with Wandavision, but that other plots were set up with no conclusion, as an incentive to watch future projects. It might be presumptuous, but I doubt almost anyone who watched Wandavision doesn’t expect those questions left unanswered to be answered in upcoming Marvel projects, it’s pretty much expected. Wanda’s story is not concluded, with a chance for her to show up in the future as fan service, huge questions were raised about her destiny, powers and children with one episode to go (5 seconds to go for that last one), and none of them were given conclusions, so her story not being continued is less “maybe we’ll see her again someday” and more “if we don’t see her again, they just kind of left some big plot threads dangling without answers huh?”
Hope I made it clearer what I meant with my comment last time :)

Just so you know accusing Disney of Whitewashing the character played by Tilda Swinton is wrong. The actual Tibetan government contacted Disney and expressed that they DID NOT want a Chinese actor playing that role and to just go ahead with Tilda Swinton. There are roles that are politically charged as such and since Disney/Marvel bows down to China as evidenced through uh perhaps how their poster badically erased John Boyega, its not an issue with her playing that role.
As for Wandavision, I am a slacker MCU fan, I watched it simply due to the fact it reminded me of The Truman Show with Jim Carrey. Except if Truman was controlling all of it. I definitely related to Wanda. Being Autistic I absolutely hate when things change or don't go smoothly and found myself smirking when Wanda would correct something here or there. I get that you had issues but I just enjoyed this show for what ut was to me, a fun little romp with great references to each era of TV and a good breather between movie phases I guess. Also if Monica Rambaeu replaces Brie Larson as Capitan Marvel I will be over the moon. @@jayquillberry4972 You can’t seriously be dumb enough to think “some of the characters have a deep connection with Rey” is talking about her parents’ identity. You just can’t.
No wonder you think things that weren’t hyped up were.

@@RM-cn8pw If you saw the context that led them to say this you would. Somebody had asked if characters like Han Solo were related to Rey. They made it seem like they weren't wanting to spoil it. Plus in the movies themselves, they made it seem like her parents were important, only for them to be nobody's only to be revealed that actually, she's a Palpatine, so it was important.

Yeah I cans see why you had your issues with the series. Wanda vision got great in the beginning but as later goes on it lost its touch.

To me it sounds like you just want to watch a sitcom. This was a marvel show that was about wanda learning to deal with the trauma of her life. And the way she dealt with it was created a life that was in a sitcom format. Some of your arguments were far though like how they don't really focus on the characters development as much as they should. But none the less that is just how marvel is. But in my opinion I think you were just not the targeted audience.

I agree. Even though the sitcom parts were great WandaVision isn’t meant to be a sitcom. It is a MARVEL show with a different meaning and purpose.
