i would love to see a trey or phish album dedicated to the ambiance they've created over the years....like after the thick of the jam when everything evens out or when it provides that feeling of hope and journey. just the sound of them drifting musically.
Omg. He is so so ausome. Wow. I love everythibg he does. When i was brought to the phish show by this beautiful couple and there bigtop friend mike with wight bemer i saw the candles and it was spiritual encounter. 2003 American airlines arena fl miami HOLY COW. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BUZZ CHANGED MY LIFE
One thing I have always admired about Trey is his work ethic as a musician. At 8:08 you can tell he's serious about what he's doing, which seems pretty rare in the live music scene.
Hey Trey. ever play with Paul Asbell any more. Fun nights hanging in college listening to the the sneakers jazz band ( tues. nights? ) in Winooski, and pasta at that place behind it ( Franco's ) This music brings me way back to you walking around with your rockman on getting the Adrian Belew collection on record and talking about marc ribot... good times ~ daniel H. Hood
After 2006 and drug court. Trey changed. He went total pro at that point. So so ausome. I have played music since 1988 where in my high school freshman 1000 student concert stage with the works thats where music hit. Me i went thru from that time looking for what i was missing in music. And then i found phish and trey. And thats what was missing
Trey was on oxy's? I ran into him in Rittenhouse Square that's in phila. a few yrs back. He looked lost. Directed him to the ethical society. True story. He was a nice guy, seemed down to earth, polite etc. Weird experience.
i think Try makes any guitar sound good with his skill and finger tone....but i agree its cool to see him play a fender. I'm a Strat guy but I have a vintage mid 70s Ventura ES 335 copy too but I still can get better finger tone with my American Stratocaster neck profile Playin like trey takes a lot of soul for one... but a lot of finger dexterity and efficiency of movement combined with the intervals he likes gives him his audio signature...im sure his guitar rig helps get his sound too haha
Does the song he's plain in the beginning remind anyone else of white summer by zeppelin? look up the version at albert hall. They sound different but have the same vibe at time
Yup, Whammy 2 is correct my friend my friend. . BUT he used to use the 'Ferrari Red' Whammy 1 or WH-1. Myself and many other whammy nerds feel that the WH-1 had a harsher more analog sound to it. They changed a lot of the circuitry to allow for more digital pitch shifting options. The original WH-1 was really just a super sweet analog (adjustable) octave divider... the black whammy is digital and loses a TON of it's original warmth and character. imo lol
Yes ,thats correct, I've seen him play with Phish over a dozen times. What ,where people trolling on me? I wasn't online for a while. That's funny. In terms of tone I think Neil Young's setup is Yonkers.
00:42 Good rig shot over here.... . TREY! You are using a Whammy Pedal RE-ISSUE! What happened to the MKI ? I'm guessing you were into the new and improved harmony presets they added... Which can be heard a lot more than the "whale call" in recent shows. But I would still go for the analog processing of the original anyway if I were you. . But you are the guitar god, I am the gear dork... so you know better than me. I digress lol
I'm putting together a guitar setup and after studting his and just about everybody else's , I think his setup is almost perfect . It's really simple (though it doesn't look it ) . Just all the classics with a little new technology thrown in . Switching galore . That setup cost as much as a house . I wish more musicians would take after him and not get stuck in a genre because if you don't play with talent from your heart your not gonna make it . Plus he didn't change his name . lol .
I live i. Willits ca area and would love to find some one out there who likes to play music like treys and phish ..furthur ...string chesse incedent ...trey anastasio band. ... umfreys magee ect....i am a know musician from this area Hit me up. I would love to play with any and all
Oh yea down below the kid who tells girls he plays guitar and can barely mster two chords usually is the biggest critic. It took years to learn not months. Its a lot of work but worth it in the end when u can play. And also understand what you're doing as well re: some theory.
Right! thankfully he cleaned up his act and didn't loose his passion or natural sound...its not forced, its clean, accurate and better than 2003 Oxy Trey (though that era had is good jams)...When Stevie Ray cleaned up, his fast playing sounded too forced as opposed to when he was fueled on upper drugs. his brain functioned that fast no matter what with Coke/Meth..after his sobriety his playing got faster but became less convincing...not Trey though!
Yea, he plays custom Languedoc full-hollow guitar 95% of the time. He owns a few Strats and this Jaguar. He'll play Martin acoustics too, one of which is his signature model.
Sco Wow, you sure know your Trey. Are you a musician? I just love the sound he gets out of his guitars. I love the Trey Anastasio "Rig Rundown". I must've watched it 30 times. I'd recommend it to you but you had to have seen it.
You play really well yes but are not Trey and never will be if you keep an ego that big. Not to mention you play very structered music with a very structured "typical" sound/style, Find your voice. Jammyjoe...true tallent doesnt flaunt THEIR sound everyone has their own sound. If you dont like it dont listen. I happen to like his tone more than becuase it is original. You sound very generic.Fender amp, strat/sunburst les paul great blues sound. Trey made his speakers in college no guitar center
rydubz7, never said his music was assy. But, his tone in this video is a big old bag of ass. Ps, my music is all over this site and others. If you think its assy, please let me know.
this is awesome, extended space jams into the ether.... I can guarantee you Trey does not consider anything he puts effort into being a waste of energy.
fukushima Good for you, I guess they win right? I am so happy that the guys you know are winning and winners, they are beating trey at the music game right?
I disagree 100%, I think it's refreshing! I love a crazy Phish jam as much as the next guy, but this open, airy stuff, played on a single coil Fender with heavy use of the trem bar no less, it is a wonderful departure. You can tell its not 100% his comfort zone, but the experimentation is exciting enough to make up for any deficit in execution ten times over.
i would love to see a trey or phish album dedicated to the ambiance they've created over the years....like after the thick of the jam when everything evens out or when it provides that feeling of hope and journey. just the sound of them drifting musically.
There is one- it's called The Siket Disc. Hard to find but it's beautiful.
That rug really ties the room together.
Nice!! I love it.
That’s just like , your opinion man.

Awesome vid, just letting music breathe. I love hearing him on a different guitar.
Oh i just love all this close up footage. YES!
The Bowery Presents is slowly turning into one of my favorite youtube channels
Nice change from the languedoc Trey! His Jag has great tones, and really compliment his style
The man doesn't even need a band he's so good!
Trey, just create an album of soundscape music like this
It's great to see/hear Trey playing a solidbody guitar! ... Looks like he's trying to channel Pat Metheny with that shirt

Sweet, Trey and I use the same Vornado fan.

Trey got those shoes on fall tour 97
Damn I had some shoes that I wore for so long the bottoms had holes from hitting pedals all the time. Must be some amazing shoes he's got there.
Great to see trey play a jag
Working on a jag right now and that's going to be the end result... Man, Trey is the best...
God damn that is coolest fender jag ever
Trey was on oxy's? I ran into him in Rittenhouse Square that's in phila. a few yrs back. He looked lost. Directed him to the ethical society. True story. He was a nice guy, seemed down to earth, polite etc. Weird experience.
I wish the mark 3 could still be found without selling my organs. This cat has always inspired me. Digging that fender too.
Beautiful tone, I wish I could achieve. Heavy gain, leslie pitch shifting?
See, you dont need a Paul Languedoc guitar to sound like Trey...its all in the fingers and the intervals he tends to uses....
I love that rug.

Trey rules
I think this is the first time ( other than an acoustic) that ive aeen him without his Languedoc
Does the song he's plain in the beginning remind anyone else of white summer by zeppelin? look up the version at albert hall. They sound different but have the same vibe at time
i like that hes not playing the languedoc..no whammy bar on that. Mabe his next one will have one..love me some fender...hmmmm
wow Trey on a Jaguar. sweet.
Yup, Whammy 2 is correct my friend my friend.

Fender? Way to go Trey.
I should have said "using a MKII" not "re-issue" .... the "re-issue" is red like the original. I stand corrected :)
Reminds me a bit of a super hot southern afternoon, or some of James McMurtry's stylings. Very moody and summer-ish.
The Golden Ginger!!
Motorhead and Phish!! My yin and yang of awesome music.
00:42 Good rig shot over here....

Anyone know what happened to the video of them playing Corona? It was released around the same time as this video, and I can't find it anymore! :(
I miss that vid so much! sad cuz it was such a good performance.
I'm putting together a guitar setup and after studting his and just about everybody else's , I think his setup is almost perfect . It's really simple (though it doesn't look it ) . I love tone from this rig. I prefer this over the new trainwreck setup.
A Fender Jaguar and a TC electronic delay . Those are new .
Tony Markellis = the yoda of groove.
Isn't that just a Whammy 2? like from the mid 90s?
shoes!
Shoes...ha. What are they?
Love the Jaguar
Cool video! (Well, after the ad and the first two minutes of nothing.)
First two minutes are great, I mean the whole video is I love the filming and the Beautiful ambience
Nothing? Tf outta heeeeah
Seeing trey without the Languedoc is weird... but i like it. I'm proud to say that he picked a fender, my brand of choice :)
"it's all organic"....oh trey
I live i. Willits ca area and would love to find some one out there who likes to play music like treys and phish ..furthur ...string chesse incedent ...trey anastasio band. ... umfreys magee ect....i am a know musician from this area Hit me up. I would love to play with any and all
Kind of creepy camera shots, but otherwise a great video and interview.
The Pants!
This music is Bill Frisell-esque. /watch?v=NcQtZeNSyY4
Type 2
Jaguars are cool

Yea I've seen it and thanks. lol I'm a big phish fan. I'm the dude who wrote that google doc earlier this year.
Sco Google doc? What like a bio on Phish?
docs.google.com/document/d/1yVeQHXjSIOoJbOw-cUz0WjD9x8b3L4qB-TnL6HVks7E/edit

Nice try, Trey, but this sucks. A waste of energy.
this is awesome, extended space jams into the ether.... I can guarantee you Trey does not consider anything he puts effort into being a waste of energy.
Nice try, fukushima, but this sucks. A waste of energy.
Yeah, I know 100 guys that can take a guitar and sing and sound ten times better than Mr Ego on his best night. Fuck Trey.
