Brits usually use cod for their fish & chips, & believe me when I say they know fish, all the restaurants we tried were very good, the food was excellent.
BRILLIANT. I used to like the McDonald's version, maybe once a year. Good, not great. Your version looked so good I actually set out to make it. This is an absolutely great idea, a hamburger for people who like fish just as much as red meat. Tremendous idea to kick it up a few notches, above and beyond the McDonald's head start. So I just made it. Like everyone else, made a few tweaks. Used fresh cod, thin part of the filet that I always have trouble figuring out what I can do with. Man does not live by fish & chips alone. Instead of flour I used Cajun seasoning, ground pretty fine. Also added a few things to the Panko before blending. Screwed a little with the aïoli, too. All in all, an absolute winner. Really tremendous idea! Thanx!

Sam! I share your love for the Filet O'Fish. My go to McD's meal is a Filet, Big Mac and a Coke. But the Filet is my favorite. Loved this video, and you highlighted my biggest complaint with the filet. It is the sandwich made with the least love. A part of a slice of cheese, never centered, and the fish is never as well. The tartar sauce as well. Once. Once, in a McD's in the Chicago airport watch my filet made with kove, perfectly centered, etc. Then dude tossed it on the chute and flipped it over. When I got it, it was fucked up like every other one I have had. Still love them!
Thank you for keeping it still like the original. Other chefs on YT tried this and just created something so far removed from the original it was a different sandwich.
Great recipe and guidance. My only thought for improvement is that pan-frying the fish, as opposed to deep-frying, inevitably leads to a soggier and more oily crust. You can see the oil absorbing into the crust on the top of the fish, because no barrier has had a chance to form -- whereas with deep-frying at proper temperature (~375 degrees F), the hot oil would form a crust around the entire piece of fish, preventing additional oil from being absorbed into the coating.

“Filet mignon” as in the steak cut is only spelled with one *t* because the term is French. “Filet” meaning “fillet,” of course, and “mignon” meaning “dainty” or “delicate.” So “filet mignon” means “delicate fillet” in French.
IMO There's a brand of battered cod fillets made in the UK called "Young's". Most Walmarts carry them. Once you try them you will be ruined for McD's filet-o-fish and ALL frozen brands like Gortons, Mrs. Pauls, Van de Kamps, Trader Joe's, etc. Three important ingredients when making tartar sauce are chopped sweet pickles (relish), fresh dill and capers. Anything but the plastic American processed cheese product slice!
Every wonder why there is no such thing as British cheese? Yeah, I love this processed stuff. No kind of real cheese tastes good on fish. Cod is too delicate for real cheese.

I was going to mention the plastic cheese too
@@haroldbrooks4235 not plastic
Every wonder why there is no such thing as British cheese? Yeah, I love this processed stuff. No kind of real cheese tastes good on fish. Cod is too delicate for real cheese.
@@codacreator6162 The Brits invented Cheddar cheese in the town of Cheddar. Blue Stilton is one of my favorites.

Barry on HBO with Bill Hader. A hitman looking for a career change. You'll love it! Btw, love you show, watching it from Spain!
I think Sam's sense of humor goes perfect with Barry!
I second this!!
Barry is a funny show. I love the Hank guy, he cracks me up.
Patriot is just an upgraded version of Barry. Check it out, guy
I know you cater your channel to bakers but this non-baker likes to watch you while he is very hungry and eating things he just prepared. My stomach is too sour to eat anything from your recipe book but you are fun to watch. You have actually become my go-to site when I need to fall asleep. Insomnia is a real problem but your voice is very soothing when I have the volume so low that I barely hear it.
Definitely watch ENTOURAGE! Best show ever
Deadwood would be an excellent choice on HBO. Great video by the way!
This is one of my guilty pleasures with fries
Great content as always! Need a show to watch than I suggest The Chosen. Thank you!
max! turn down the exposure slightly lmao
jokat989 i think they’re best bet is to use video effects rather than wait for the perfect weather to film. 😂😂 it can be done correctly
Love the Filet O' Fish at MD's but this just pushes that shit up 20 notches! Looks freaking awesome!
Sam (and Max), I’m a huge fan! Max, your editing is awesome and I love the humorous banter and sparing between you and Sam!
My moms favorite from McDonald's, made it for her last night, she thought I was a culinary genius...I had to fess up and tell her that it was "Sam the cooking guy". She still loves me!
got so scared when the iphone alarm sounded, haunts me
i've woked at mcdonalds. the buns are steamed lol
what did you make in the wok?
@@suivzmoi Food that's what you do at mcdonalds.
@WidePeepo7 beat me to it
@WidePeepo7 oh no. Someone misspelled on the Internet.
@WidePeepo7 grammar Andy
PEAKY BLINDERS!!! A must see, love the content Sam
You have good recipes but the key is your personality you're a likable guy and a pleasure to listen too..
Keep up thr good work...I like your stuff....
Love the channel brother! Watching your videos has made me want to get into cooking more.
Pretty sure someone will be happy to have you in the kitchen 🤓
I love how some of the cussing is bleeped out while other times it's not. Perfect.
theartofshwa yes. Dropping the f 💥 is like everybody has a tattoo....come on people we are more intelligent than that.
@@sammyelliott5554 I think if there are too many uncensored F's, YT will demonetize the video. I know of other channels that bleep every F but usually don't bleep anything else.
Peaky Blinders or my current fave, Boardwalk Empire (HBO). Or on Netflix, Happy Valley. The title belies the outstanding excellence of this series.
Boardwalk Empire was fantastic! Even though the ending seemed rush and half baked it was still worth watching
@@phug0id say no more. Nof anywhere close to the ending!!
it was always my beloved father's favorite.. and now it's mine too. I am here for 21 minutes to learn
