It's a bad precedent to sue journalists for making honest reviews. If anything, they should be taking onboard criticisms to improve their service. I flew NAS twice to NYC in the past, though my first time was in the midst of the 787 Rolls-Royce fanblades saga, which led to the usual 787 being substituted by a HiFly A330, then there was that 737 MAX Transatlantic to SWF that could do with proper IFE and WiFi, and the airport was further away from NYC, which necessitated booking transport separately. Then later, the MCAS saga began, which pretty much finished off NAS's long haul aspirations.

As most people should know by now, you get the dreaded SSSS on your boarding pass and extra screening when there is something unusual about your travel circumstance. It is often because you bought a one-way ticket, bought your ticket at the last minute, or paid cash for your flight.

Not to mention the flight was only $550USD!

Just to correct: Norwegian didn't go bust. They shut down their long haul department, because they lost too much money on it. Norwegian is still flying short haul in Europe (you can even see one of their planes at approximately 6:16 in the video). Yes, they are flying Norwegian's old planes, prabably because they were available on the market.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 10 місяців тому +50

If I remember correctly Norwegian operated the brand under two corporations. Norwegian airlines was the Norway based short haul carrier that still operates. And Norwegian Air Shuttle was the low cost long haul carrier incorporated in Ireland and using primarily Indian cabin crew under some visa agreement they made with Ireland. Norwegian Air Shuttle was shut down and clearly all the assets and most of the management just re-opened under this new brand. Still doing their shady practices of hiring cabin crew from places with no minimum wage (Puerto Rico has no minimum wage, despite being part of the US).

Once through customs, I was given a new air ticket free of charge to LA (an hour or so later than my original connecting flight) but had to catch another plane to Brisbane, Australia from LAX. Multiple hours later, i arrive at LAX and had to sprint with all my luggage to the other end of LAX (domestic) to the other. Turns out i made it with 15 mins to spare for baggage check in... Same here. Intentionally built a 4-hour international to domestic layover at ORD on separate tickets just to be safe. Yet just made it to the AA check-in desk at Terminal 5 just as they're about to start boarding the plane at Terminal 3! All thanks to TK taking a 2 hour delay at IST followed by a massive immigration line at ORD (no Global Entry for me as I'm ineligible) followed by another hour long delay to claim my checked bags followed by a really troublesome group of passengers (who were making unreasonable demands to the poor check in agent) in front of the queue at the AA check-in desk just outside Customs on Terminal 5. From then on, I had to catch a shuttle bus to T3, stand on another interminable security line (with no PreCheck or CLEAR memberships) and then sprint to the furthest gate on Concourse H. I miraculously made it as the last pax to board! Only to inconvenience the poor couple who were already upgraded into my first class seats because the gate agent thought I didn't make it 😂😂😂

I have a mate who was a pilot for said previous airline that ceased to exist. One fine day he tried logging into the rostering system to check his schedule for the month ahead. Couldn't get in - access denied.... strange right? Calls up another pilot mate at same company. He couldn't get into the system either. So they called their mutual mate who has contacts in scheduling.... He checked it out and found that HE was locked out the system too. A few phone calls around and it turns out that said airline were ditching a bunch of staff including pilots. No announcements or letters, you just found out via the grapevine.
Anyhoo, a few weeks later he gets an email from HR.... ah, a settlement and redundancy package you might be thinking. Nope, he was TOLD to "dry clean your uniform and send it to HQ via courier at your own expense please". That was it... no settlement, no redundacy, just intructions to return all his Norwegian issued work clothes/pilot unifrom etc. So we he went and had everything meticulously dry-cleaned and plastic wrapped....
.....and sold it on eBay for E350 as a self administered redundancy....
Never heard from them again and is now flying for a much better more reliable operation.

Just watched a review about Norse from The Points guy, apart from the add ons, they loved the flight and the food was great. there was a mention that the company had taken over Norwegian Airlines routes but no mention about the same bosses, lol, they also loved the food, tbh Noel, they were obviously luckier than you 🤭, great video yet again

Juat think, your advice to Norwegian to "shove it" must have worked!!!! It wasn't one of your glamarous flights which I love, but it didn't look too bad except for the food. I used to always carry something edible with me when I flew just in case .Sometimes it was just candy but saved me from starving. I always hated having to go from one end of an airport to another to catch connecting flights. One time, I waited at the wrong gate & finally realized it about 5 min before the flight was to depart. I had on high heels & literally ran to the last gate to catch the flight. I was the last one on & then they closed the door & we took off! I'm sure being in London you enjoy the food. There is nothing as good as the food we spent the majority of our lives eating! Glad you made your flight & had some favorite foods!

Noel, we flew on Norse in late February from Gatwick to Orlando, then back from Miami (early March) either side of a cruise. Here's my observations: Gatwick-Orlando first. check in - the Premium (which we flew both ways) was really no different to economy, even though there were fare fewer passengers (no 'premium feel' to it); the departure gate feels like it's MILES from the departure lounge (somewhere near Redhill!). The aircraft: a 787, first time on one for me and really enjoyed it. Closest thing I've found to my much-missed DC10s I used to make a point of flying. Cabin Crew: All Gatwick based, UK crew! We were looked after by a young guy called A.J. who was EXCELLENT from start to finish. Food: not the best I've had, but certainly above average for airline food these days. Loo: it's just an airline bog tbh.... (??) Seat/Space etc: couldn't fault this. Could get in and out past my partner without her having to move at all. In-flight entertainment: A bit too US-centred for my tastes, but I found a couple of films to watch which passed the time. We landed about 30 mins late due to a near-200mph headwind after passing over Ireland, but wasn't a problem for us.
Miami-Gatwick: Miami airport is CRAP. Very poorly laid out, food offerings not up to much (wish we'd got the Brightline train back to Orlando and flown home from there tbh!). Check in again lacked a 'premium feel' - and was more impersonal than Gatwick. Left about 15 mins late as there was an air traffic issue. Cabin Crew: All US, and US based, crew. The female members of the crew were fine. The male 'members' literally couldn't give a toss. Cabin service was rushed and if you wanted anything after two hours into the flight, you had to press the buzzer rather than order on the entertainment system (as we had on the way out). It then took nearly ten minutes (geeky, but I timed it) for anyone to respond.
What's my feeling about the two flights as a whole? If we had taken the US-UK leg first, I would probably never want to fly Norse again. The saving grace for them was down to ONE person - AJ our flight attendant on the UK-US leg out from Gatwick.
However, we flew both ways in a very large premium economy seat and space, with good food, drinks etc included for HALF the price of Virgin or BA on the same routes (I checked and priced it all up before booking). That was a HUGE saving and meant we could enjoy premium economy both ways, not just the overnight back home.
That said, Norse does need to address its inconsistencies which seem to come down to where the ground and cabin crew come from or are based. My sister in law and her husband also flew Norse late last year and one of their cabin crew teams were all from Costa Rica (!) and had little empathy with English speaking passengers.
If Norse were much closer in price to BA and Virgin etc, then this would be a MAJOR issue.

I flew Norse across the Atlantic recently. The service is at least comparable to what you'd get on an airline like TUI who also fly longhaul using 787s.
Where they win in my view is in premium economy. In terms of seat size, legroom and food it's comparable to the premium economy products on a legacy carrier. There are a few frills removed - not everything on the menu is free and the IFE selection isn’t as yuuge as you'd get on Virgin or BA, but the fare is typically 30% lower from what I've seen.
If you're taking a family and want some extra space theyre well worth considering.

I also thought the food was naff.. the IFE was also not very good when we went last year. Only reason we went for them was, two one way tickets from different airports (inbound and outbound) were astronomical prices with the big boys like virgin and Ba. Would I fly with them again? Probably not. Rather go with an established airline. Having said that, on the route we did.. we didn’t have any problems with the staff, boarding, aircraft or anything.
