Fantastic work. You are an inspiration. I would suggest using a solder sucker to allow super easy removal of components. Another benefit will be those mounting holes will be clear as a result and installing the replacement components so much easier. Keep up the great work!!
Little tip for you use a bit of lead based soilder on each spot helps with removal and install if ur not going to clear each hole as many have pointed out good job on giving it a repair where most would throw it away!!
WOW sorry but I'm like OK wish I was there to help. First clean out all holes of solder or were they are clear. so a pin from the mosfet will fit with little to no force. once its all cleaned Place heat sink back on first then place the mosfets were they go attatch them to the heat sink then solder all solder joints and then clip any access legs off from the component with side cutters . The bad thing is is some times the solder pads can come off with to much heat. Some times I need to watch to the end and hop it all works out. I would have sucked all the solder out of the holes use solder wick to clean up all solder pads using plenty of flux helps with solder flow ect. I have a soldering station that I use for repairs.

Great tutorial, I've got a powerjack pswgt 1200, that had 2 shorted IGBTs but I replaced them, and the unit was only connected to 24v dc, it started to work, sync to the grid but then it blew again. Looked like output runaway. Any ideas where I should look, nothing looks burned, but I havent a schematic. Many thanks.

I have an 1000w china car inverter. The 4 mosfet Hy1906c is dc Side located. Two of them will burn. Whenever i changed them. whenever 12 volt supply on it the mosfet again burning. I have removed all the 4 mosfet from pcb boards.and check the voltage. Reading is something like this Source to drain= 12v Source to gate = 5v Source is common to 12v battery negative point. I have a Go Power IC3000 split phase inverter/charger to power up the whole 50 amp split phase breaker panel in my 5th wheel camper. It worked fine for about a year but started blowing the 400 amp 12 volt fuse every month or so when on shore power along with a slight burning odor sometimes. FYI, I'm using 4/0 welding cable on the 12 volt side and 6awg on the 120 volt side. Of course I checked and tightened all 12 volt and 120 volt connections, none of them were loose. Anyway I noticed recently that while on inverter mode (with shore power disconnected) there is only one leg of power output. Could that be bad mosfets like yours? Any ideas on what to look for-replace? I want to hear your ideas before I pull the inverter out. Thanks in advance, Ray.
I have power inverter that went bad, I suspect mosfets. Theres 4 of them IRFP260M. Do any other letters on it matter or not? I have P514J? Cant find exact mosfets, only IRFP260M part, other letters dont match. What else could be wrong with it if not mosfets. It powers on, shows voltage, says for a sec it uses 500w, then goes to 0. Cant power anything. I checked with multimeter the outlet, voltage is all over the place. No blown fuses. Maybe transistors? Nothing blown. Caps all good, connection to bluetooth shows all good. No alarms.
if ever re solder mosfets or something id advise to buy a cheap 40w soldering iron, its hot enough to melt a large amount of solder but wont burn the board and wont destroy the components
i take it you are a builder of some sorts? well, if you see somebody using a sledge hammer to nail in a 2 inch nail, wouldn't do a little bit of wondering? like i said before, a hand held soldering pump is just a few dollars.

I believe it would have been quicker as you would not have had to do the FETS twice. The daughter boards would have just sloted in ready to solder. But as you show there are many ways to do it.
I have the same reliable 3000w 24v, It acts like a short when I hook up the battery. The spark jumps the gap when you goto hook it up. do you think it could be the mosfets, maybe it was hooked up backwards?
Nevermind, after further inspection one of the mosfets is blown. I got this inverter for $17 on amazon.. haha THEY HAVE A 4000W48V NOW FOR $295. BUT i ALREADY HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH. 1000W, NOW 2 3000W AND A HUGE 15KW SPLIT PHASE.
When you tested the inverter, How did you connect that big floodlight to inverter to limit the current and prevent burning some components inside the inverter? Thanks in advance.

@@ireensibitwane7466 for MOSFET rebuild test I would use at least 500w at 120v to 1000w for a 12dc inverter test with no load, if it's 500w at 120v at 12 v it will be less then one tenth the wattage. Hope this helps a little.
Question for you mate, I have a 12V Xantrex Prowatt sw2000 inverter that’s acting up and it’s almost new. On 12.6v battery the inverter can’t even power a 75 watt mini-fridge that has about 600 peak starting watts. However if I connect a 15.5v battery to this inverter it’s able to power that same mini fridge with no problem. Also, I can power a 100w lamp with the 12v battery for about 30 minutes and the inverter will start to make a crackling sound. What the heck can be wrong with this thing? Thnks!
what size battery are you trying to run the fridge on? and have you checked the voltage under load,? also check the voltage at the inverter under load on the DC side. what size wires are you using and how long ?
At 13:45, that board you're installing. The black round thing on that board is the low voltage beeper correct? If I take the top of that thing off it won't beep at me correct?

A suggestion for those who might do this kind of repair job. Buy some headers that you can solder in for the daughter boards. If the go bad once, they can go bad twice and would be plug and pray the next time. And in a perfect word, the installed components would all go in to the step on the leads and the holes on the heatsinks would be match drilled.

Solder wick and flux are your friends. Also lead based solder. If you want the solder to stick well you have to use flux or flux core solder while attaching things. I'm not an expert either. I learned from trial and error as well.

what were the small resistors that come with the kit? I have a bad 2000 watt, It made about 30 hours on 140 watts and stop working. They had me change two mofsets and didn't say anything about the resistor till after it failed the second time after 5 minutes of run time. Then they tell me about the resistor the was suppose to be in the package.
What are the resistors I need? They sent me a new inverter but I maybe able to fix this one. I bought 10 mofsets, I just need the resisters and try the repair again.
yes it is working more the coolers are connecting with a load from 200w to 300w I think with a power of 3000w should not connect with that consumption.
are you in a hot environment ? if your the inverter is in 30C the fans will turn on easier, also I wish my fans turned on that easy as the inverter will last longer.
If you remove the suspect components with a suction solder pult, and smaller tipped soldering iron, a, you remove the solder from each individual joint and b, you don't risk lifting the copper on the circuit board. Soldering with what looked like a poker a fire place is not the best way to do the job.
Omg dude.. Use a 50w iron lol.. You will roach that board quick with that solder iron.. Flux.. And some good quality mg chemicals solder with good amount of lead in it.. Avoid that lead free stuff

Sounds like you have a bad relay I side the inverter
You should pull it out and test to see if it's making power, or it could be a bad connection in your panel I would check this first.

I put it between the positive DC connection of the inverter

if the resisters are bad then that mosfet in front of it will not work right.
Going Off Grid will it just fry that mofset? Because that's what happen. Same two mofsets went bad.

they are surface mount resisters search the numbers on them, mine are 5R10 and 305
or ask reliable.
Use copper rope for taking out the old solder works wonders for me.

Wala its fixed. You could go back with a small soldering iron and put solder on any points that need it.

Get yourself a "solder sucker" or some "solder wick" and you will be able to un-solder without damaging the component or the the board.
