LOVE this! I would love to hear an update on how it worked in your classroom this past year and definitely a plan of how you are going to do 4th grade homework! Thanks! Love your videos!
Hello ! I'm French, teaching in France. I hope next year I have students that begin to learn reading, so I can pick up all your brilliant ideas ! But for now, I am keeping this and think of how I can translate and adapt it in French... Thank you for sharing all of your tips !
+Marie-Hélène Lachaud That is great. How old are your students? You can do so many fun things for the beginning of the year in the younger grades! Lots of really neat games that will help them become readers.
I love this idea! I already use this type of folder for my homework folder and one side says left at home with the left hand and right back to school with the right hand, along with the picture of the school and home. I was also sending my newsletter, homework packet and reading log all stapled together. I'm going to add the pocket tabs and the clear protector sheets for those reference sheets. They are great. Now, when do you have time to check these folders? I have a similar behavior calendar and I couldn't get the students to bring it back to school. Do you check what homework is done? Do you return checked homework? I spend a lot of time checking it and switching it out. What do you do when the books are returned? Do the students turn in the work they did for each book? I had a bookbag buddy System and switching out the books drove me crazy. When do you check that the student is ready to move on to a B folder? Do you incorporate the same books in your small reading groups? I'm sorry for all the questions. I love your organizational skills and everything seems to work smoothly, something that is very needed in kindergarten! Thank you.
I'm loving your nail color. :) so I'm not a teacher but I love watching the way teachers organize because I have Four Girls so it gives me ideas on how to organize homework or papers here at home. Thanks for sharing
Hi Bridget, I noticed that you mentioned sending home a weekly newsletter. Do you have a video about what sorts of things you include in the newsletter? Or a template of it somewhere?
Natasha. - I may cover this briefly in a Vlog. I still do a weekly newsletter for my parents but I have changed how I do them. I do them as an email only now. I found that my fancy PDF versions were not being opened.
I see that you have the checklists in your store, but do you have the other lovely papers somewhere? (inserts in the folders and folder front and covers?)
Hi! I really loved your homework binder idea. Especially liked the math sheet and the language arts strategies for reading. Where could I get a copy of those pages?
It really depended on the student. Most of them lasted the full year but I did have to remake a few. I make extras at the beginning of the year and that was enough. Laying out your expectations for the care of the folders is an important step and you will have to remind them that it is their responsibility at times. Overall, they worked our really well! - Thank you for watching!
Thanks! I really like your system for the books. I was talking about the same struggle with our kindergarten teacher - so I found this video just in time. We will be setting up our folders over the summer to save us time during the school year. Thanks for sharing.
I love this video. I will definitely be trying these in the next upcoming academic year.. One question about the reading folders. How do you know the child is ready to moved from a levelA to a levelB skipping all the upcoming level A? What sorting of testing do you do for this?
Shannon Johnson The red folder serves as my communication folder. I have my homework log there and any materials that my students might need to reference back to when they are at home. I check their red folder every day. That way I can see if they are reading their books at home. The homework folder is simply a transportation method for the books. It cuts down on my "prep" time when it comes to giving the books out. So inside their folder they have a behavior log, reading log, alphabet chart, reading strategies, a math reference sheet, handwriting reference sheet, and math calendar.
Terri Peele I would need to know more. What do you have to have in the folder? If you wanted to really go for it you could make the copies and place them inside the folder. You could even make a bound book and place that in the folder with no prongs.
Hi! I'm not sure how often you check your comments, but I wasn't sure where else to contact you! I'm a soon to be third year teacher and I am hoping to fix up my homework this coming school year & i'm doing some planning now. How did the books sending home/etc work out? Did you continue to do it? I'm really interested especially in this aspect of your homework but before I start purchasing all the books and leveled readers I was hoping to get your feedback. Thanks again! And good luck on your changes this year! :)
Are you teaching 3rd grade or are you going into your third year of teaching? I loved using it in kindergarten. This homework model works great for kindergarten to 2nd grade. If I was in an upper grade I would use this model for my intervention group only. Once you get into 3rd and above, students are selecting their own book for homework and many are choosing chapter books so it would be difficult to use my homework model for those students. Hope that helps!
+The Lettered Classroom thanks so much for getting back to me! I'm going into my third year as a first grade teacher. I think my biggest struggle is determining which books to buy online (like the levels etc.). Would you recommend using a service like reading a-z where you print books instead of buying the books from Amazon? Thank you so much for your help. It is seriously so appreciated- I have a lot to learn and your channel is so inspiring!
I purchased my own books through Amazon and Scholastic, but I also enjoyed Reading A-Z when I had access. I think that choice would really be whatever fits your classroom best. I liked having the physical books, but the ability to reprint is always nice. Yearly, I ended up spending about the same amount using both methods. Thank you so much! I'm glad you are enjoying the videos :) I appreciate all the support and kind words!
+Geralda Charles Yes. I have a set of A folders, B folders, C folders and so on. These are stored in my filing cabinet and as I pass them out on Monday morning I simply check them off and hand them the folder. It's also easy to see which ones are missing this way too. Although I haven't had any issues so far.
+The Lettered Classroom Hello Can You Help Me Set Up The Lesson Plan Format On PowerPoint Shoot Me A Email: mcknightzyrell@gmail.com Thanks, -- Mr, McKnight
+Jenny Davis The school provides the readers that came with the program they purchased a few years back but so much of what I have are my personal books
can you make a video about your teaching college days? how you got into the education program and such tips and ideas when your in college to be a teacher. thank you so much :)
Mary Collins great question. I don't send an extra set of books with him/her until my other books return back to me. I have a slip that says Oops and I simply write down that I need my books back before I am able to send a new set. I will also email and if necessary I will call the parent.
James Morgan hahahaha.... TRUE, but that is where great management comes into play. My kiddos know that I won't collect homework until I call their table. They hold their materials at their desk. You could even have a return basket so that it doesn't take away from instruction time.
Hi! I'm new to your channel, but loving all of your helpful information. I was wondering...could you do a video on organizing a classroom on a budget and/or tips for new teachers (like myself) to find a job? Thanks and I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos~ :D
I love this video! Is there anyway you could link the sheets you use as editable files :) This would make my life so much easier! Thank you for all of your hard work!
This year, my students are between 6-7 at the beginning of the schoolyear, and reach 7-8 at the end. It's called CE1, in French "cours élémentaire première année". According to the new official instructions, it should be called "3rd year of Cycle 2".
I love this so much. If I ever teach kindergarten this is how I want to do my homework.
I don't know why, but these organization videos make me so happy and are so interesting to me lol!
Me too I find organization videos relaxing

That homework folder looks great, I really enjoy watching your videos.
I know this video is old but gosh I’ve been loving going way back and watching these!

such an amazing idea...
You probably are aware, but on your homework page, you have "homwork" at the bottom.
I loved your home reading organization system!

Absolutely outstanding idea! Will be using this strategy for sure! :)
Hi!! I was wondering if I could get a copy of the homework quick reference sheet that you made? It's at frame 13:48. Thanks!!!!
I see that you have the checklists in your store, but do you have the other lovely papers somewhere? (inserts in the folders and folder front and covers?)
on the blog as a freebie.
I'm loving it.... Thanks xx
Lovely video.
This is a great idea! I can't wait to try it next year. Which books do you use for levels E, F, and G? I can't any little readers for those levels.
Hi! I really loved your homework binder idea. Especially liked the math sheet and the language arts strategies for reading. Where could I get a copy of those pages?
I tried finding the free download for these and could. Or find it in you blog. So you still have it up?
How durable were the envelopes/folders for reading? Did your they last all year?
It really depended on the student. Most of them lasted the full year but I did have to remake a few. I make extras at the beginning of the year and that was enough. Laying out your expectations for the care of the folders is an important step and you will have to remind them that it is their responsibility at times. how do you use the homework folders in conjunction with the red folders?
Shannon Johnson The red folder serves as my communication folder. I have my homework log there and any materials that my students might need to reference back to when they are at home. hey I'm a student and I like your videos cuz I like school sometimes
Any suggestions for folders with no prongs? We have to use folders provided by the school.
Terri Peele I would need to know more. What do you have to have in the folder? If you wanted to really go for it you could make the copies and place them inside the folder. You could even make a bound book and place that in the folder with no prongs.
Hi! I love your videos. I was wondering, how do you laminate your home readers envelopes so you can open them up to put the books in?
I laminate the folders with the flap open and then cut a slit using scissors for opening.

I'm guessing you assess your students before determining if they move to level B/C etc..? or..?
Does the school u work for provide books? And do u use them? It looks like u spend a lot of your own money for your class. Does that happen a lot?
+Jenny Davis The school provides the readers that came with the program they purchased a few years back but so much of what I have are my personal books
can you make a video about your teaching college days? how you got into the education program and such tips and ideas when your in college to be a teacher. thank you so much :)
I loveeee your channel!!! You are an inspiration! Are the books provided by the school? Do you have enough to send home and use in your class? Thanks
+Melissa Shinke I purchased all the books with my own money.
How are you going to handle when a student does not bring the book folder back on Friday?
Sounds good on paper until 30 5 year olds come charging into the room then all bets are off

Where can I find the leveled book homework check list?
