I am going to subscribe and and binge all y’all’s videos after this. I just discovered blind melon about 3 weeks ago and have listened to this song about 600 times. It really gives me the feeling of hope. I loved your reactions, you did Mr. Hoons lyrics justice with your analysis.
In an interview with Details magazine for their July 1996 issue, Blind Melon manager Chris Jones explained that Shannon Hoon would sit on his mother's porch, singing this song over, and the family considers it a song of wonderful innocence; a song of hope. Said Jones: "He wrote it at the very end of a three-day coke binge in Indiana. During the first part I don't feel the sun's gonna come out today he was on the other side of the room, trying to see through the venetian blinds which were drawn so no light was coming in, and he was at a point where he couldn't even get up." Shannon Hoon dedicated this song to the late Kurt Cobain during the band's April 8, 1994 performance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Hoon added new lines to the song concerning Cobain's recent passing. The lyrics, "I know we can't all stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today and they'll paint it" are on Hoon's gravestone.
@@jeffreyglenellen1188 yup.... without a neglectful medical system and mental health system etc. same with too many musicians of all types. drug addiction isn't born from thin air. it's born from neglect and poverty.
This song saved my life. Anytime I fall off my path, this song centers me. Blind Melon was a gift to the world. You should check out: sleepy house, mouth full of cavities, and soul one.
Blind Melon is one of the most underrated band of the 90s the lyrics of the band has so much depth with the vocal flair of Shannon Hoon n this song change is a dark song with a beautiful message of hope esp.the last line "life is hard, we have to change" beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I come from a very broken family so to see y'all's reactions make me feel like there is still hope for true family and Ahab/love! May Yahuah The Most High Barak/Bless you all in all you do and for all you care for! Shalom!!!
One of my all time favorites. ❤ Back in that day I bought the CD when it came out. No rain was the radio pull. But after listening to the whole album, this song just connected and resonated with me. I just kept replaying it for decades. 😂
I missed the Blind Melon train back in the 90's because I never looked past their couple of radio hits. Massive oversight on my part. I dug into their two studio releases months ago and discovered how incredibly brilliant they really are.
A lot of people how know Blind Melon know how good Shannon Hoon and the band was. But to me they are under rated. I always wonder what he could have achieved had he lived. He was taken way too early. This album ... every damn song is great. Also, Rogers Stevens, the lead guitarist is just great on this song. Most will point to their hit song, "No Rain", but he really had many songs that he show cased his talents. In this song, he bends the notes like no one's business.
Blind Melon! I loved their whole vibe. Shannon Hoon gone too soon. I had the chance to see them open for GunsNRoses in like 91. Hoon sang backing vocals on Don’t Cry.
Fantastic SONG RIP Shannon God he was a beautiful man not a lot of people know this but Shannon also performed with Axl Rose he is in the lyrics of the song & the video called Don't You cry
Great band, first album was really good. I got to see them once at the Hollywood Palladium shortly before Shannon's departure from the planet😢😢 They were a ton of fun live!!!!👍👍👌👌✌✌😁😁
Blind Melon played as if there was no tomorrow. So much joy and pain, emotion and fearlessness, their quiet moments were loud, almost as if they knew they only had a short time. There will never be a voice like Shannon's.
Shannon came from a very shaky unstable background. This guy was in trouble a lot. He was naturally talented. You can hear it’s just raw unfiltered actual singing. He drove to L.A. and from the get go began singing and being noticed. He could really convey feeling. Really different. He had such originality in the way he moved and expressed himself on stage. Just a I don’t give an EF kind of courage.
Blind melon is one of my all time favorite bands. They did some amazing experimentation on their second album (Soup). Check out “the Duck” and Galaxie.
So glad you guys reviewed this song. If I am ever in a hard time I play this song and Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. I sing along with both and believe the words and nothing matters as much.
should be shared way more.. more people need to hear when its hard.. sometimes you have to change ... most times... if you change and thats hard. but you can get up god lifes hard
paper scratcher, soak the sin, tones of home, I wonder, dear ol' dad...there really aren't any skippable tracks on that first album (my favorite album from them)
Check out Thin Blue Flame by Josh Ritter. I probably listened to it twenty times before I fully understood it. Watching him sing it live is a spiritual experience.
Please do more Blind Melon. Also there is an excellent video Letters from a Porcupine. I highly recommend. If this hits you in a good way then anything they do you will probably like. Their music is usually telling a story. Shannon sang back up on a Guns and Roses video and album.
RIP Shannon!!!! any track from their first album is fire! A great underrated band
Ya, great album
Every track on that whole album fit so well. So good
I miss them
Any album*
*All albums. ;)
Such an underrated band, they were so good and Shannon was so magical.

Without heroine and cocaine, we'd have so much more great music today. Facts, sadly
Thanks
i always found it brilliant that every time i heard them do this song, something was just a little different. this song is deep on so many levels.
All I know is I want it played at my funeral. All time great, gets me in the feels every. single. time.

Easily EASILY one of the most underrated bands of the 90s
This was my favorite song growing up. Thanks for this one!!
Can't believe I missed this. Blind Melon was my jam from their first album to their last. RIP Shannon.
Blind Melon is a great band. One of the best of the 90's. Lots of classics to check out by them!!
and one of the most underrated, I feel like they are at least.

Thank you so much for doing a song off this album!! So many more to experience. Sleepy house, Seed to a tree…Shannon was special.
Brilliant band…Shannon gone way too soon
Way, way, way, waaaaay too soon!!
I've always thought that this song Shannon wrote to communicate with himself. Agreed he was brilliant and the world is somehow less without him.
Was just talking to my daughter about that very subject this morning over coffee. His voice ❤️
Rest easy Shannon x
Junkies are never gone to soon
RIP Shannon. Thx again for the reaction you guys. Always a pleasure!
Blind Melon were a hell of a band. You've got eclectic taste. I salute you.
Tony
One of my all time favorites. ❤

Asia & BJ, their "No Rain' was a hit song.
Thank you for playing this song I haven't heard it in years.
I've listened to this song hundreds of times, through the worse of times.
This is the first time I've listened to it from the other side. Finally.
I missed the Blind Melon train back in the 90's because I never looked past their couple of radio hits. Massive oversight on my part. I dug into their two studio releases months ago and discovered how incredibly brilliant they really are.
One of my fav songs, it actually did change my life, and give me hope
Blind Melon has some great songs such as No rain, Mouthful of cavities, St-Andrews Fall, Walk, Galaxy, and many others…

Blind Melon is severely under appreciated. Y’all should definitely dive deeper into their catalog.
Blind Melon! I loved their whole vibe. Shannon Hoon gone too soon. I had the chance to see them open for GunsNRoses in like 91. Hoon sang backing vocals on Don’t Cry.
Bro… if they came out with this TODAY, with how Country Music took over.. they’d be HUGE.
Fun fact, the late lead singer Shannon Hoon grew up as a childhood friend of Axl Rose in Indiana and sings the high octave part on Don't Cry....
Great lyrics, "I'm gonna write my words on the face of today!"
My most favorite band so soulful yoy should ..MOUTH FULL OF CAVITIES..such a perfect song
My favorite band of all time.
One of my all time favorite bands! They were truly unique.
Such an underrated band. Shannon’s voice was amazing. He was on the Guns N Roses song ‘Don’t You Cry’, and in the video.
Their second album "soup" is a classic in my opinion.
Fantastic SONG

One of my favorites. Thanks for reacting to it.
Great band please do more.
My blind melon favorite
When life His hard you have to change ❤
RIP Shannon Hoon
This song was recorded on different tracks. Listen to it with your fade all the way to the left and again with fade all the way to the right.
Blind melon is one of my all time favorite bands. They did some amazing experimentation on their second album (Soup). Check out “the Duck” and Galaxie.
I lose sleep thinking about what these guys would have produced if Hoon hadn't checked out so early in the game. Rest easy.
What a great album
So glad you guys reviewed this song. If I am ever in a hard time I play this song and Three Little Birds by Bob Marley. I sing along with both and believe the words and nothing matters as much.

Love this band!
one of the 90's greatest songs IMO.
Like Bob Marley sings... "One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain."

My heart. You are missed Shannon.
Beautiful song. Change to keep your life in the direction it needs to go.
React to Sleepyhouse!!!! Also by Blind Melon. The single MOST slept on song not just of this band but of the entire 90s
That was the 1st song he wrote.

I noticed you seemed suprised by the harmonica. But as you know the band. You will realize its a very common theme in some songs.
I honestly use these words every week of my life. When life is hard you have to change. Jordon Peterson before he said it
I miss you Shannon Hoon my brother from another mother!!! I'll see you soon My Brother! Shalom y'all!!!
Please please please do more blind melon.

Blind Melon is my shit. Definitely need to check out "Mouthful of Cavities" if you haven't.
Shannon Hoon had a black soul. This is not said without respect. The best souls are black.
