Fun fact! This run would be (if submitted) top 10 in the Portal Glitchless leaderboards. Shizzal also holds the WR in the glitchless and inbounds categories, while holding second place in both out of bounds and inbounds no SLA (no quicksaves/loads) categories. At one point, he held world record times for all four categories. Man's a beast at Portal lmfao
Riclamin As explained by Shizzal himself during the beginning, Portal speedruns start when the crosshair appears and the player actually gets control of Chell. This is done so since the official start of a game would be when you actually get control, so it avoids accumulating time for unskippable intro cutscenes that you can’t control your character in after you press the Start/New Game option in the menu. Hope that explains it!
9:29 - _{player rapidly shoots like 15 precision portals and some acrobatics in about 14 seconds, blazing through the level in an almost-unfollowable blur}_ "Well, that was a little sloppy..."
The reason he said 16 was sloppy is that it really was. What we should be really impressed with is how quickly he recovered and how good his backups were. The orange portal shot on the ground at 9:31 was completely unintentional, but he pre-walked into it, losing time having to re-place the shot where you normally shoot it. He also missed his shot next to the elevator at 9:40, and lost time walking the wrong way, quickly noticing and reshooting that portal as well, taking note to change the color of the portal he shot so he could walk into the incorrect portal from before.
Portal is so broken tho, it's basically just a portal away from the 5th dimension. I love source engine so much for all its little quirks that honestly just make it all that more special and lovable!
Glitches are when the game's code breaks apart and does weird shit because it can't make sense of what you're doing. That was not the case here -- all of the techniques used are perfectly possible by the game's designed code, they're just being used in creative ways to bypass puzzles and doors.
Me: I mean the pipes not moving in Escape 2 is a bit of an exploit if you ask me, a glitch almost ? Definitely not an intended mechanic. Runner: It’s fine
It's not considered a glitch because when you shoot a portal, it takes time to travel. So the way it works it you shoot the portal and walk backwards as it connects and you are put through the one you just shot. This is how it is done in the glitchless category
He just portal peeked on accident, which is really easy to do there, and also not a glitch. The problem is that unless you have physical access to one of the portals after you shoot, portal peeking won't be useful. Ideally you want to start holding back as soon as the shot lands, but as with anything you do fast, you can move early there and walk back through before it switches where the portal is. This leaves you with the clear option to reshoot the blue portal and try again, which is what happened. I will admit, that moment is confusing if you don't speedrun Portal, since you never see where the orange portal is or if that failed attempt advanced him in the level at all.

is that including the first like 4-5 seconds where the run started, but the timer didn't run? Nevertheless, still seems like a good run

@@mark030531 ah my bad, I must have missed that 😅 thanks for explaining!
fun fact, he actually held all wr's twice, and both times he held it for like two days
@@Riclamin_ btw they were like a second or two late, shizzal himself retimed it and he said it was like a ~15:50
"If you don't know how cube throw works, you throw the cube..."
Lmao love this runner
That feels like a callback to last year's Portal 2 run, which had this exchange:
"Anyone wanna explain how Cube Throw works?" "You throw the cube."
@@mandl2710 Not only that, but both the couch players said it in unison unplanned.

its a tad sloppy compared to wr, and most of his good runs

“‘Man this Chamber looks tough I wonder how he’s gon...oh. He’s completed it...”
Always a pleasure to see Portal done fast.
Portal runs best runs
14:52 Love how the commentator does the GLaDOS voice for the donation!
RIP Weighted Companion Cube.
You were my favorite conversationalist and advisor.
I feel lost without you.
Worry not. In ERROR years GLADoS returns it. They have a lot to say to you after the reunion.
Such a great run, Shizzal is amazing at both the game and the commentary. Doing both at the same time is not easy but he made it look like it! :)

GLaDOS: This next test could take a very, very long time.
Shizzal: _is already in the elevator_
i completely followed everything that was going on.
"a little sloppy, but the good thing is I didn't die"
what a mood
Man this makes me want to download Portal 1/2 and run through again.
Man, Shizzal's sense of humor is very enjoyable.
This video changed my life.
That security camera in the door made my jaw drop I’ve never seen that before lol
This game was the best surprise in The Orange Box. RIP my childhood.
7:31 WEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'm going to try some of these strats... as soon as I figure out what the hell he did.
And if you don't know how a cube throw works... you ... throw the cube.
Portal done promptly

This run competes with Mass Effect for most time spent in an elevator.
I love Shizzal so much, great runner
"That was a bit sloppy but moving on."
Me: (0-0) bruh idk even know how u even did that to even call it sloppy
Portal is not the speed game for someone with motion sickness, hoo-boy! Amazing run nonetheless!
I👏LOVE👏PUZZLE👏BLOCK👏
Now that's the boy
I like ducks
One of the games that were just made to be speedran.
How is this glitchless if pistons don't move and other things like portal push don't work as supposed?

Chamber 14 is my favorite
Is this guy shaming me for not getting how cube throw works? :C
Nice video game
Yeah portal
Wait. No abh?
Abh is considered a glitch so they don’t use it in glitchless
what the fuck, I don´t understand anything he´s doing and I´ve completed the game
a lot of this is a very thin line between exploit and glitch. I wish there was more and better explaintions on everything he did.
Me: I mean the pipes not moving in Escape 2 is a bit of an exploit if you ask me, a glitch almost ? Definitely not an intended mechanic.
Runner: It’s fine
Not really a glitch, he just never stepped in the trigger to make them move (which you can do casually)
> Glitchless
> Uses glitches at 6:23
thats actually not a glitch, its the strat he used is perfectly allowed in the run
I wouldn’t call that a glitch.

@@mellownessuperstar2618 it doesn't lose you as much time to just refire the portal as it does to restart the level
