That's actually how I got into web development. I wanted the developer badge when it first came out and discord took it away a few days after I started working on my own bot. I didn't know anything about coding back then but I stayed because I liked it. I now develop custom bots for fun 😂
@@UnderCtrl i got into a bit of css&html mostly due to wanting better skins for my modded guilded client (called reguilded). i dont do web design regularly, but a simple goal can do wonders for productivity.

As a developer, I am more than happy for this update. I do wish that they just got rid of the permanent badge and had it so there should be a constant 30-day expiration check, but it is what it is. Also, I am not mad at this video. The fact that he shows a somewhat legit way of getting the badge (which is by running an actual bot) is something that is nice. I do wish that the developer badge either made people get into programming or was just exclusive to developers, but nonetheless, maybe someone might actually start programming Discord bots from this, so compared to having it given to everyone, this is far better. Hopefully all tutorials in the future on how to get it will start with downloading an IDE and a full-on playlist of how to code a Discord bot.
@@exo_7536 I agree. Most people are mad when you mention something like that and they go on to use the excuse of "its just a badge" or "why are you so mad," and I guarantee you that these people don't even understand our side. This is the second time a platform I was developing on released a "price" for hard-working developers that was snatched by random users and deprived of its value, the first one was Roblox, in which not only did people exploit to earn items, but this in turn made part of the program shut down, which meant that I was unable to obtain the price myself (originally, only the game owner received the price, along with a form to fill out names of other team members so they earn the prices too, but due to abuse, they shut down the "other member" checking), and since all my projects are team projects (or at least under a group that is not directly owned by me), I do not receive those prices. Regardless, although I would love for it to be restricted to programmers only, this sadly cannot happen with some extensive checking or verification feature that would require a dedicated team for verification.
the api team themselves have said, it's not about gatekeeping, it should be about inclusivity! the badge is intended as a way to try to encourage people to get into bot dev. even if comparatively few people go the whole way and learn programming, that's a win for the community in my book
Something which I don't quite understand is why the eligibility for the bot has to be slash commands. My bots are mainly used to create notifications for Twitch/UA-cam, and handling role assignments through reactions. The only command that my bot has is to restart it if I changed something in it's code, and it's not a command that I use more than perhaps once every three months or so.
@@pogpogger9497 See, I could do that, just for the badge's purpose. But my comment was more of the purpose that it doesn't make sense to only provide the badge to developers of bots that is actively (read: once a month) being used with a slash command. They could instead just base 'activity' on how the bot interacts with the Discord API for example sending messages.

Hello there! I know why you sometimes don't get the "Pip" command working! You have to customize the python installation and check some boxes saying something like "add to file system" "file system" "file" "command" "cmd" or "terminal", and it will work.
Protip: if you already have command prompt open when you install python (and more specifically when you add it to PATH), you must restart command prompt in order to pip/python to be recognized

Full stack dev here, 5:30 The error is mainly because you may not select to add python to PATH The PATH variables helps terminals to know which .exe are kinda like globally there
Personally as a developer, I’m very happy for this update. However instead of just showing people to run a script every month, you should’ve teached people how to code their own discord bot from scratch. It would have inspired many more developers to come at discord and would make the badge less common and more meaningful.
I have a bot for my personal use and seeing that it requires slash commands to get makes me disapointed in a way. Guess I'll have to actually implement slash commands 😔
If you are not good with computer, I would not recommend doing it the "coder" way, for safety reasons, but if you want to do it that way anyway, here are some more advice: 1: DO NOT use the link in the description if it doesn't end with a big sequences of numbers and letters,, it may not be the one that NNTS have checked. You want to add "/tree/53514fcb65383c190516318e237b350b4fd7555a" at the end of the link, (I would add the full link if I could, but my comment is filtered out because of it) The zip file you'll download will not end by "master" but with that big sequences of letters and numbers instead Why ? The link on the description (if it was not edited after this comment) point to the last version of the code, if the account of AlexFlipnote is compromised or if AlexFlipnote want to become malicious, the code on the repository will be update and MAY NOT be safe, the link I've put in this comment point to the version shown in the video: the version that was verified by NTTS. So you can trust it the same way you trust NTTS, it will not have the latest updates, but at least you will be sure that the code you will run have been checked by someone you trust. The link on the description may not be checked on every update, using it is not an assurance that you'll use the version shown in the video. 2: If pip doesn't run, you may not actually need to download Python from the Windows store, this may be because of one of the following reasons: A: you didn't check the box "Add Python in PATH" during installation, so Windows doesn't know where to find pip B: you did checked the box, but for an obscure reason, the PATH hasn't been refreshed by Windows when you opened the terminal, this may happen, in that case, restarting your computer will probably fix this issue without installing another version of Python, if it doesn't well, first of all, welcome in the great world of programming, secondly, install it from the windows store. Some explanations: What is the big sequences of letters in number in the link i've provided ? That's the commit hash of the code shown in the video, a "commit" is just a fancy way to say "version", adding this number will give you the same version as shown in the video, there's no way for it to be modified in a way that will make it malicious What is the PATH? It's a big list of directory that Windows will look for program you want to run, if a program is in the PATH, it can be launched from anywere on the computer juste by typing the name of the program in a command line Why bothering writting all of this? Making that badge safer to have to anyone that may want it, and help to bother Discord
I hate when developers like me spend hours of work on unique ideas for a bot, fixing bugs, and more, but then someone who has no experience just downloads and runs a random program and gets the stupid badge
True, i hate the people that claims they are "developers" and the only thing they did is open cmd and run a py script, i dont hate NTTS but really all these videos of "free badge" are trash. The badge was created to give some credits to the developers that wasted time on creating a bot for the platform and a random guy that doesnt know anything gets it 💀💀💀

@@LilacMonarch it's more like, Discord respecting privacy laws and not logging your slash command usage unless you turn on the feature that allows Discord to do just that, but okay
The reason why your pip install doesn’t work sometimes is because you need to enable the windows extension and paths while installing Python. Don’t install Python twice, the only reason why that works is because the windows store version installs the extension and paths.
Honestly they should check activity for every badge, That way we can see who actually knows something or if they're the kind to just hoard badges to brag.
@@shibahyperion7635 In my opinion I don't think Discord even needs non special badges. I mean probably not for people who are completely new to the world of programming because there's a lot of stuff to pick up about it, but if you already kinda know the languages and learning the library and API is the biggest issue for you then yes you'd be right lol.
Thanks to the sign, I got seriously carried away with Python and bots. Now my bot is used by 4-5 people on the server because it will always work and it won't be a problem for me to run it sometimes
5:11 isn't that if you don't check the 'add python.exe to PATH'? Bc that fixed it for me (But for some reason adding it to path after installing it didn't work?)
5:13 It sometimes won't work because you installed the wrong way - if you're going to use "pip" or similar commands, you need to check "add to PATH" in the python installer.
Yo man in your video called "UPDATED | How to get Active Developer Badge on Discord!", after adding the bot to the server, didn't you have to run the cmd "/finish"? Can't you just run that cmd every month? :/

now i know why i had it once and i hadnt and i had to get it again. im an actual programmer so i found it strange. like im actually programming bots instead of programming one command for slash command for that sweet badge.
I've been kinda interested in coding for a while now and this feels like a great excuse to finally get into it, but I do have a potential problem or two I've seen someone make a custom bot for an inside server joke before, there was just one command that gives a random output, but it's hardly ever online and I think I remember mention of having to pay? I'm not sure how it works so I'm hoping someone with a bot of their own can explain how keeping them online works and secondly, the dumber problem, I have no idea what I'd actually wanna make a bot for I have motivation, even enough to try learning how to code in the first place, but no ideas, especially if the above issue is actually an issue (sorry for the kinda lengthy comment, just hoping to find some answers from people smarter than my average google search result lol)
for the first problem, in order to make your bot constantly online you need to host it in a server. there's alot of hosting servers and some even let you use it for free (may or may not require a credit card), or you can just make use of ur pc and run it 24/7 second, seems like you play tetrio. how about you make a bot for tetrio oriented stuff, they have a public api so maybe you can create a command for getting user's data and display it using discord's embed or something like that
@@RedStone576 1. How does hosting it on your own pc work? (I don't doubt it does, I think that's actually what the other person I know did, I'm just unsure how hosting works) 2. I don't actually play tetrio all that often, but I do upload to YT every day and I have a Discord server I share the links in when I do so (despite pretty much nobody caring lol), is there a way to make a bot that automatically sends a link when a channel uploads? It's not too important, just feels like a good place to start if that's an option
@@VoidRift 1. you just run the bot from your pc and just let it be 2. yeah, i personally haven't tried to do it but there's many tutorials on that to get you started with. whatever you're tryna create, google is your bestfriend
As a developer, I don't want the Active Developer badge on my profile as it doesn't mean a single thing, it is so easy to obtain you can't even distinguish real developers from regular people
You could also just make a python script that acts as a windows service that starts the bot and logs into discord in a headless browser and send the command itself
if you are on mac you need in when installing with pip you need to run inside the Bot folder "pip3 install -r requirements.txt" if it doesn’t work just using pip instead of pip3 and the same for how to run the file. instead of python use python3.

As a person who ACTUALLY makes a bot i can say that im so happy for this update. Because some people just make a bot for a literal badge.
so, yourself?
So you'd have to be a DEVELOPER???
Full stack dev here, 5:30
The error is mainly because you may not select to add python to PATH
The PATH variables helps terminals to know which .exe are kinda like globally there
Personally as a developer, I’m very happy for this update. However instead of just showing people to run a script every month, you should’ve teached people how to code their own discord bot from scratch. It would have inspired many more developers to come at discord and would make the badge less common and more meaningful.
I don't think he even knows.
@@holl7w fr
@@holl7w you are right, I hate this 0815 badge catchers
This is pretty cool. I've always wondered how botw where made. I kinda wanna make one now for myself.
I have a bot for my personal use and seeing that it requires slash commands to get makes me disapointed in a way.
Guess I'll have to actually implement slash commands 😔
It's best to migrate your bot to slash command,
It will give you some experience on slash command if you wish to make a discord bot for public
And its not so hard todo, its mostly just copy and paste
slash commands are easy once you have made a couple of them
Just get rid of normal commands and only use slash commands.
It's not hard
Here I was thinking people with the active developer badge were actually developers
If you are not good with computer, I would not recommend doing it the "coder" way, for safety reasons, but if you want to do it that way anyway, here are some more advice:
1: DO NOT use the link in the description if it doesn't end with a big sequences of numbers and letters,, it may not be the one that NNTS have checked. You want to add "/tree/53514fcb65383c190516318e237b350b4fd7555a" at the end of the link, (I would add the full link if I could, but my comment is filtered out because of it)
The zip file you'll download will not end by "master" but with that big sequences of letters and numbers instead
Why ?
The link on the description (if it was not edited after this comment) point to the last version of the code, if the account of AlexFlipnote is compromised or if AlexFlipnote want to become malicious, the code on the repository will be update and MAY NOT be safe, the link I've put in this comment point to the version shown in the video: the version that was verified by NTTS. So you can trust it the same way you trust NTTS, it will not have the latest updates, but at least you will be sure that the code you will run have been checked by someone you trust.
The link on the description may not be checked on every update, using it is not an assurance that you'll use the version shown in the video.
2: If pip doesn't run, you may not actually need to download Python from the Windows store, this may be because of one of the following reasons:
A: you didn't check the box "Add Python in PATH" during installation, so Windows doesn't know where to find pip
B: you did checked the box, but for an obscure reason, the PATH hasn't been refreshed by Windows when you opened the terminal, this may happen, in that case, restarting your computer will probably fix this issue without installing another version of Python, if it doesn't well, first of all, welcome in the great world of programming, secondly, install it from the windows store.
Some explanations:
What is the big sequences of letters in number in the link i've provided ?
That's the commit hash of the code shown in the video, a "commit" is just a fancy way to say "version", adding this number will give you the same version as shown in the video, there's no way for it to be modified in a way that will make it malicious
What is the PATH?
It's a big list of directory that Windows will look for program you want to run, if a program is in the PATH, it can be launched from anywere on the computer juste by typing the name of the program in a command line
Why bothering writting all of this?
Making that badge safer to have to anyone that may want it, and help to bother Discord
I hate when developers like me spend hours of work on unique ideas for a bot, fixing bugs, and more, but then someone who has no experience just downloads and runs a random program and gets the stupid badge
aww poor you
You said like you spend hours only to get a badge
True, i hate the people that claims they are "developers" and the only thing they did is open cmd and run a py script, i dont hate NTTS but really all these videos of "free badge" are trash. The badge was created to give some credits to the developers that wasted time on creating a bot for the platform and a random guy that doesnt know anything gets it 💀💀💀
aww so unfortunateeeeeeee
@@reuus bro learn how to code is not hard
Got it yesterday using your thingy as I am a *gamedev* and I liked how it looks plus kinda resembles that I can code, I dont code in dc tho so heh what you gonna do ab it 😂
But my bot doesnt have any commands?
Just kick the bot then invite again make sure you active the bot to online 😜
@@10Ben-n7u how do i put him on online
i made 2 bots in python, and it's honestly worth it, i've had a lot of fun learning python for them.
/hello keeps failing
I never closed the cmd window either
This is such a heartbreak. I may never function properly again. My vital organs are refusing to function at the sheer thought of this being true. The depression has spread so far that my extended heritage may never fully correct itself.
but what if i don't have it at all
Then you will get it
u will get it like in the vid blind man
I got it the GitHub way and I’m glad they are doing this! I will try programming my own bot Becuase it seems interesting 😊
Me who never wasted time getting it: Ok, doesn't matter :]
The reason i didn't get the badge was because it was common and I'm lazy.
I just got my active developer badge thanks to you
Honestly, people who claim a badge for something they're not deserve to get infected with malware.
because they want a cool badge?
The literally easiest way to install anything in windows. I really like it!
stop telling fakers how to get our hard earned badges!!
imagine caring about a badge. im too lazy to get it but cmon why do you have to prove yourself to anybody
Discord trying to fix the "Use data to improve Discord" bug:
- It's not a bug, it's a feature 😎

@@LilacMonarch it's more like, Discord respecting privacy laws and not logging your slash command usage unless you turn on the feature that allows Discord to do just that, but okay
@@ulize. As if they couldn't make that a separate option to allow that functionality while still respecting privacy everywhere else

The reason why your pip install doesn’t work sometimes is because you need to enable the windows extension and paths while installing Python. Don’t install Python twice, the only reason why that works is because the windows store version installs the extension and paths.
Stop showing people how to get it, instead direct people to how to make an actual functional bot
this is prolly gonna get me into discord's bot programming. cool.
Steve Ballmer: "DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS!"
at first i was just getting the badge for fun but know its interested me into coding and i might try to once i get my pc fixed!
this is the best news ever
Honestly they should check activity for every badge, That way we can see who actually knows something or if they're the kind to just hoard badges to brag.
I mean the bug hunter badge is insanely hard to get even before the updates. The mod badge was hard too. The rare badges are just super selective.
@@shibahyperion7635 In my opinion I don't think Discord even needs non special badges.
Badges like the bug hunter are special because you have to show that you want to better the platform but things like early supporter, active dev, and server booster are unneeded. The auto role for server boosters is annoying, active dev is a joke now, and early supporter does nothing but let you brag.
@@TrueReshiram idk I wish I could submit a GitHub repository and have them review it for dev badge lol
Now this might just be me not understanding exactly what this badge is, but wouldn't it be easier to just make a bot that you actively use?
I mean probably not for people who are completely new to the world of programming because there's a lot of stuff to pick up about it, but if you already kinda know the languages and learning the library and API is the biggest issue for you then yes you'd be right lol.
Why did it tell me :"You are not eligible for the Active Developer Badge "
Umm...?
i think you have to wait 24 hours.
Thanks to the sign, I got seriously carried away with Python and bots. Now my bot is used by 4-5 people on the server because it will always work and it won't be a problem for me to run it sometimes
The mental breakdown at the end. Too relatable
Yo NTTS what is that sick extension or theme that makes your tabs look like that? Do you know if it's available for Firefox?
No Text To Speech: "Don't share this code with ANYBODY"

i actually love this update, now i can get this badge on my main working bot instead of fake bot
I like this move because im actually an active developer and all the badge hunters will lose it i like that

@@mischiefthedegenerateratto7464 Yes youre right thx for the correction ^^
Well, i have a bot that is actively being used, so im good, and im actually happy they decided to do this
Windows 10 doesn’t have Windows Terminal installed by default. So windows 10 users WILL NOT see the open in Terminal in the context menu, unless they have installed Windows Terminal manually via the Microsoft Store.
Me: occasionally coding a bot
Also me : Doesnt know badge exsists
A lot of people : Look i am a "Developer"

Same bro I'm a game dev and yeah then people come with this unreal engine where you can just open a project with a perfect third person controler + character animation... Then they just make a map, steal a 3D modell from the internet call it their game and get more recognition than me making a cool game for 6 months... It's just like making a level in a game like mario maker or some shit and this really fucks me of.

I’m happy this is happening tbh. Too many children having it
now i know why i had it once and i hadnt and i had to get it again. im an actual programmer so i found it strange. like im actually programming bots instead of programming one command for slash command for that sweet badge.
I've been kinda interested in coding for a while now and this feels like a great excuse to finally get into it, but I do have a potential problem or two
I've seen someone make a custom bot for an inside server joke before, there was just one command that gives a random output, but it's hardly ever online and I think I remember mention of having to pay? I'm not sure how it works so I'm hoping someone with a bot of their own can explain how keeping them online works
and secondly, the dumber problem, I have no idea what I'd actually wanna make a bot for
I have motivation, even enough to try learning how to code in the first place, but no ideas, especially if the above issue is actually an issue
(sorry for the kinda lengthy comment, just hoping to find some answers from people smarter than my average google search result lol)
for the first problem, in order to make your bot constantly online you need to host it in a server. there's alot of hosting servers and some even let you use it for free (may or may not require a credit card), or you can just make use of ur pc and run it 24/7
second, seems like you play tetrio. how about you make a bot for tetrio oriented stuff, they have a public api so maybe you can create a command for getting user's data and display it using discord's embed or something like that
@@RedStone576 1. How does hosting it on your own pc work? (I don't doubt it does, I think that's actually what the other person I know did, I'm just unsure how hosting works)
@@VoidRift 1. you just run the bot from your pc and just let it be
2. yeah, i personally haven't tried to do it but there's many tutorials on that to get you started with. whatever you're tryna create, google is your bestfriend
As a developer, I don't want the Active Developer badge on my profile as it doesn't mean a single thing, it is so easy to obtain you can't even distinguish real developers from regular people
You could also just make a python script that acts as a windows service that starts the bot and logs into discord in a headless browser and send the command itself
I Love Hearing He's Voice In The Very End, It's Cute
"please do not share this token with anyone"
the token being on the screen clearly
in the mobile method does the command i have to do every month be a specific one or any bot command works?
if you can't figure out any issues you have from this tutorial, you REALLY shouldn't have this badge at all.
Great that they do this!
unrelated but i had a dream where discord made the game overlay voice thingy a nitro only feature
if you are on mac you need in when installing with pip you need to run inside the Bot folder "pip3 install -r requirements.txt" if it doesn’t work just using pip instead of pip3 and the same for how to run the file. instead of python use python3.
