I love your channel Mike. As a former NYC cop in the South Bronx, although it seems the XL being heavier, hits harder, I would still go with the original. I am always concerned with weapon retention. What I like about the original is that it is thick enough to hurt when it hits, but thin enough to make it difficult for someone to grab it and pull it out of your hand. The XL may hit harder, but I tested it against the sort of bruiser you would want to use something like this against as an equalizer. He said it hit harder, but once he got is hand on it. He was able to hold onto the whip. With the original, I was able to pull hard and get it out of his grasp.

*The key is in the motion. It's all about the way the whip flicks with rotation. Lead with the handle let the whip lag behind then you extend your elbow and want the end of the whip to make contact at extension. Imagine you're holding a hammer and you're swinging towards the nail but with a tad more wrist before contact. Its insanely effective when used the right way. That's the best way I can think to describe it.*

This reminds me of the sjambok, the South African whip. I ordered one from my firearms supplier when I had my FFL.
The one I bought is made of plastic, though I think the authentic ones were made of some sort of leather. The plastic are still, however, very effective. I hit myself hard a few times, and the pain was excruciating.
One day, I showed it to my father, who was a police officer at the time. I hit him with it, but not as hard as I hit myself, and he felt a lot of pain. I asked him what he thought about tne police having these, and he said hitting someone full force with it is immoral and would cause them psychological problems. It stings like you can't believe.

Also if a guy rushes and tackle you in a clinch or a takedown... the big one is completely useless whilst the small one is still very effective with just the flip of a wrist.

Knew a guy who used to have a length of high voltage electrical cable in his car for self-defense, 3 thick copper wires sheathed in black insulation. I always assumed it was way overboard, and, looking at you guys, it definitely was :)

I just bought the Stinger. Could you make a tutorial on how best to apply it/tactical strikes, for self defense? Thanx

When u said the developer never felt it being used on himself. I was LP to be stung with the tasers we carried. It felt like a snake bite! I chose my butt and it hurt for a week and left 2 red scars.
These things are not teenagers that are dumb toys.
    I’m definitely ordering 1! Maybe 2. 👍❤️🇺🇸😎😷🌟🌟🌟

The only issue I would have concealing it in my belt loops is: When you first open the package, due to shipping it comes curled to a certain degree. I wondering how much memory would it have maintaing a curve while in one's belt loops perhaps for years if and when you draw it out.

So for a small, 60+, not muscle bound male, would you recommend the regular Stinger or the XL Stinger for self defense / protection? Price is only a $10 difference. Thank you for your response.

Many years ago when I was working in a factory there was a guy there that used to hold his own martial art classes at lunch time, mostly old school JJ locks and throws. I asked him about weapons and he said all you need is this and he pulled out a handkerchief with half a dozen 20c coins tied in the corner and proceeded to whip it at metal targets. He said its not a weapon cause its just his lose change kept in his pocket. I don't know how effective this would be but with lots of practice I suppose a high speed strike to the head might do some damage

I've become pretty lethal with a few homemade "technically" legal weapons lol. Dog lead being one and a lanyard with keys and a small weight. Not because I ever plan on using em in self defence...its more due to the fact I watched too much Jackie chan as a kid, n love the idea of making unconventional weapons outta every day objects 😅

Can you test a bicycle lock with a cable inside for comparison? Where I live, these whips are illegal but locks are not. The difference is that the lock has a solid end piece, so I would be interested if that's worse or not.

If you need that whip to inflict more damage put a metal tip on the end, as seen in the homemade varieties.

I found some half centimeter thick hoze for propane and stuf like that and hit my self with it, that thing hurts dude, it is maybe three times the size of the big whip, with little power as posible but it felt like i took a big piece of iron on my forearm that sh*t hurs. You should try it LOL
