Yeah. I think if Disney tried to sell a new Spectrobes game to more mature audiences that remember the older games as part of their childhood they might just strike some gold. They do seem to like playing on people's nostalgia, given all the live action film remakes. Hell, at this point I'd gladly take a remake of the older games, to try and make what the originals lacked better. Until that day, I ought to track down a copy of Origins...
Just a little backstory: Pokemon was always conceived as a video game. The card game and anime (and everything else) were spin-offs of the game, which came out first :)
This is a recurring problem for the Pokeclones. Even Yokai watch who essentially imploded on itself. And Digimon which was a Tamagotchi until Bandai decided that they could ripoff Pokémon with it.
I feel like you downplayed the improvements the series made in the second and third game. The gameplay was improved a lot and the story also got more fleshed out. Krux and the High Krawl made for more interesting villains than the various non-speaking big blobs of goo in the first game. The games are definitely flawed, but this video makes them seem a lot worse than they actually are. I really hope Disney gives this series another shot at some point. I love the setting and I feel like there is still a lot of potential.
I remember trying to wake up a fossil while on an airplane. For some reason, it didn't occur to me until it started that "oh yeah, we're in a location with CONSTANT background noise".
I had literally forgotten what this game was called, and even that it existed at all. And I spent an IMMENSE amount of time playing this as a kid. Digging up the fossils was my jam.
I'm pretty sure if spectrobes origins had been more advertised the series' would have taken off. I mean, the real time combat with both you and a spectrobe fighting with a variety of weapon types and combos for the player to use would have totally taken off.
I remember being like 11 and not being able too beat it, i feel like some parts were a bit too hard for its target audience, considering I did all the challenge content in the first 2 games at the time.
Yeah, especially since the first Monster Collecting game was technically Megami Tensei for the NES. That series still has the best monster designs out of the entire genre in my opinion.
"I remember loving this game, I spent hours on it!" *Loads up game to see I'm about 10 minutes in and had just played the same part over and over again*
I actually had the same experience with Pokemon Colosseum. Me and my brother had dumped hours and hours into it, and loading an old save I found that we'd basically just been dicking around in Pyrite town and had barely unlocked the ability to purify Shadow Pokemon.
Yeah, I remember being a silly kid, and spending hours quite literally scanning every possible corner I could to get as much as I could. Not to mention finally reaching the top of the mountain in the first area, and having to get a radiation suit to prevent damage from radiation was kinda cool at the time to little me, it was like damn this is a real alien world, and I can't just go willy nilly, or something like that haha I was really young, and thought Metroid Prime Hunters was the best FPS game ever, then again my D-Pad Skills where unmatched in online 5 Star Hunter Trace IMP MAIN BABY lol. (Only Action Replay cheaters could beat me)
working at a kids toy store and fun fact: Beyblades is the 2nd most requested collectible after Pokemon. Edit: Just rediscovered this comment... funny how in 2020 the weirdest part of the whole thing looking back is "working at a children's toystore." I miss human interaction.
@ThePOKOkitty It's still Bakugan. The relaunch has made it impossible to find the toys and it's like 2008/2009 all over again. My only complaint is that the episodes are half the length of the original and it's having similar plot pacing issues that plagued Steven Universe and Adventure Time due to limited time. I still have a 3 of the old ones from the Gundalian Invaders series: Ventus Quake Drago, Ventus Lumagrowl, and a Haos one who's name I can't remember but it uses dice to calculate damage.
Funny enough, I learned early that blowing into the mic works for any game you don't have to say words to. My Gunvolt 2 play was less stressful because I didn't karaoke XD
I feel like they could easily revive this series if they really wanted to! It has a lot of potential, despite the cons. The interactive feature of the fossils and waking them up is such a wonderful mechanic, and it'd be a shame for those amazing designs to go to waste.
Spectrobes was the shit lol. I was playing it non stop on the ds back in the day. I remember that you got some special cards in the box with holes in them and that you need to put it on the lower ds screen and press your styles into the holes. The designs are still awesome and maybe one of my favorite in the genre Edit: the background music really takes me back lmao
@@g3ek178 The mechanic that's notable for the purpose of this conversation is that in Astral Chain, you control both the human character and a monster called a Legion at the same time, and you can switch between 5 different Legions on the fly. Each Legion has a different playstyle and exclusive skills. Combat is very combo-heavy and requires you to be mindful of the positioning of both characters. It sounds complicated, and it is, but the dual-character controls are a good deal more intuitive than the concept probably makes it sound.
"Developers like Game Freak know that they can't just market their games to kids" ... Considering how Sword and Shield went down... That statement sounds more dated than it should
Uh, no it doesn't. The twitter/reddit echo chamber doesn't actually make up the adult pokemon fan-base. SwSh are still highly appealing to them/us, and the sales reflect it.
Aaron Schmitz they’re definitely less appealing to an older audience than past games, the difficulty has been toned down and the story is bare bones. There are still a lot of people who don’t find the games appealing now. Of course it’ll sell, it’s Pokemon.
Was searching for this comment. Ironically some of the complaints he mentioned have been things Pokemon has been getting for the past couple of generations.
Also the models looked bad and most of the redesigns were bad, out of all of them the only one I liked was Beckles. The story could have been better and the battle system could have been more close to Champions.
There are a few things I liked. Having a unique vivosaur and having it be play a big part in the story. Having regional vivosaurs be different elements and could have there skills be a bit different then the original. I liked having the basic fossils be used for weaker basic moves and the gold fossils unlock stronger unique moves.
I remember playing the ds game of this series as a kid and I loved how it had a paleontology theme as I loved dinosaurs and so it fulfilled a nishe I didn't really get anywhere else.
Spectrobes Origins was heading in a good direction. They just needed to expand upon that. Funny enough, Astral Chain ended up having similar mechanics.
Shigarot right there with you, i remember asking my mom what everything meant (game wasnt in my native languege) she went crazy cuzz i was asking her all day😂
"Remember Beyblade?" Me: *sitting up straighter in my chair immediately, attention snaps to the screen, literally putting together a Beyblade as I'm watching this video* "More popular than Monster Rancher, but nowhere near as popular as even Digimon." Me: =(
Then how come I can find Beyblades at the toy store and got one in my toddlers Burger King meal this year (2019) but cannot find anything Digimon outside of the rare occasion that the PS4 games are in stock? Beyblade is one of my baby girls favorite cartoons on Disney XD besides Pokemon. Digimon merch is extremely hard to find...

A few inaccuracies: There were PvP battles in the original Spectrobes for the multiplayer; there weren't just Krawl fights. The multiplayer for Origins had one player control the MC and the other, the Spectrobe, which is unrelated to what you said but I felt like mentioning it anyway. There also was a post-game for the original Spectrobes, though it wasn't very fleshed out, I'll admit. The player's goal basically became to collect as many of the Spectrobes as possible, as well as to collect all the Geos. The latter is achieved by partaking in what is akin to a challenge or endless mode, wherein your success is based on the number of waves you cleared. On top of that, you could spend time trying to get all the input cards IRL to get absolutely everything. Unfortunately, I can't say much about the post-game for the other two entries in the series, as I have yet to beat both, but I hear that they were both more developed than the first's. Another thing is that I don't think you placed enough focus on Origins, which could be considered the best game in the series, depending on who you ask. It certainly has the best graphics and does try to tell a more coherent narrative. It also has quite an expansive world for the time so it's definitely worth checking out, even today, despite the motion controls of the Wii. Regardless, it is wonderful to see Spectrobes getting some more attention. The franchise still has a small following and it would be amazing if a rise in attention led to a new entry, however unlikely that may be. Thank you for sharing its existence.
Joshua Ward the post game for beyond the portals (the second game) was pretty much the same as the first game but a few spectrobs were only available after you beat the game and every geo was in the same hundred battle pit that you would have to keep fighting again to get them all, there was also the custom parts that changed stats to collect and the minerals for the ship part.
@@Subjectively witch one are you referring to cause the first game is just a return to before final boss but 100 battle challenges appear on each planet, while the second is you go home and new spectrobes now appear and the 100 battle portal is where the final boss was. or are you referring to the invincible mode the first games final boss enters that you are not told to save the geo for or you can't win
Dude, I hated Origins. The graphics were beautiful, not gonna lie, but the gameplay and story were... ick to me. And Neal. Neal can just stay in his pits. The lack of healing items be it thru shop or otherwise, especially for the spectrobes, made the marathon battles in Slayso and the krawl sphere on "New game plus mode" almost impossible. Difficulty was also super slanted. In Beyond the Portals, I didn't have a huge problem until Gronos, and that was with me being a dumb-dumb and wanting to avoid every fight so my babies didn't get hurt as an 8 year old kid. Origins, I fought every little battle and still could barely beat the 3rd boss. Still hate that three headed Dutch bag... the digging was also a huge pain, but I think that's more due to my preference to handhelds over consoles. On the other hand, all the designs were AMAZING. I had 0 issues with a single spectrobe design wise. The world's were gorgeous, and I really enjoyed the mineral system they added, and the exchange fossil options. It wasn't a bad game, but they probably should have kept to handheld imo. When you change a game that drastically, it doesn't always turn out well. Look at Fossil Fighters. It followed the almost exact same pattern as Spectobes. A decent, but meh first game, a sequel better than the first that improved on ALL the flaws the first one had, and a third game that drastically changed everything and effectively killed the franchise.
I would do anything to see an improved Origins kind of game come out today. That game was challenging enough and well done to the point that I actually felt it took its audience seriously. I think if Disney Interactive licensed a good Dev team to develop a new title for the switch or even PC it would be a great thing. If they took a few notes from a whole host of different games I could see it becoming a complete success.
Fossil Fighters will always be the best to me. Countless nights spent in bed, just playing the game again and again, and never tiring of it. I always yawned at the resurrection at the end, when you come out of stone sleep. May be because I was so tired, or maybe because I just had that kind of bond with the scene. I don't know, but I'm hoping it was the latter. :)
@@delta.australia haha yeah I was either playing pokemon, yugioh, or beyblade. Some shows and games literally dont last after the pilot or first 6 months of the game or the trading cards, if its not commercially accepted. For me spectrobes was that. I would play the game but I know it wouldn't have the same affect on me as my younger self.
I remember staying up all night on my computer just looking at the teaser website disney set up, I didn't even do anything, I just stared at the website in awe. Spectrobes has a special place in my heart because of how much time I spent on it collecting all of the shiny versions and just having fun running around and fighting. I really enjoyed it as a kid but it is certainly lacking. I hope that maybe some day, some how, this series will be revived.
It's sad, because this is my favorite Disney franchise Also remember those cards you could put on the screen to obtain things? Windora Ortex was my friend's absolute favorite
TheRich Tree It's awesome. Not only did it introduce new Vivisaurs, It introduced a new kind of Vivisaur that only had one fossil to clean for the entire Vivisaur, but you had to clean it from both sides. You had to keep flipping the fossil as you cleaned it, or else you would fail. It had stuff like ammonite and trilobite.
my god i haven't played this game in 12 years and i suddenly remembered every single monster just by seeing them and that final boss thingy and that thing with 2 flaming swords gave me such a flashbang, i need to play this again
The monster designs in Spectrobes look interesting, but they’re not exactly kid-friendly. For a game that wanted to stay as basic and bare-bones with its mechanics because of the children, then choosing to not go the whole nine yards with it sounds like a mistake. How are the designs not kid friendly? Just show a picture of Pikachu and of that blue bird, then ask them to draw the two from memory. Chances are, they’ll draw Pikachu easily and struggle with the bird, making Pikachu the most satisfying and easier to replicate subsequently.
I agree. The designs seem to follow a similar visual style to Digimon, but the thing Digimon did right is that those designs aren't the normal state of the monsters. The base form you most often see Digimon in are a lot more simple, and often pet-like. They only turn into the big detailed monsters when it's time for a fight, like a special battle suit. It makes the designs a cool visual representation of the monsters powering up, with the monsters typically getting more complicated as they get stronger, and it all goes away at the end of the battle leaving you with the cute, appealing designs again.
@@Potassiumkloride "it all goes away at the end of the battle leaving you with the cute, appealing designs again" that's only for the anime tho, and has never been the case in the video games and the vpets
Some of the most recognizable character designs are also the most simplistic. The slime from Dragon Quest, for example, is the famous mascot of Japan's favorite RPG series despite having no actual importance to the games, save for being among the first enemies encountered. It's design is just so stupidly simple, you can't possibly forget it, thus why it works as the face of the franchise.
When I was a kid, I really enjoyed those complicated styles. My favorite Pokémons always were hard to draw, and I really loved Spectrobes because of aesthetics (and I couldn't really wait to get past the fluffy stage to see the cool and powerful designs). I never really liked the cute designs, maybe it's just me.
Man just hearing the name Spectrobes brings back nostalgia! My favorite monsters were Rydrake, Shakoblad, and Torgazar! Torgazar reminded me of a character from Kinetica, another super nostalgic game I need a sequel of!
AHEM??!! Dinosaur King was a collection based monster fighting game that had digging up and cleaning fossils as a core mechanic. It also has cool symbols on the elemental rocks used to summon the dinosaurs. Thank you.
I am still disappointed that we never got to know more about the plot. The second and third games were actually setting up an entire galaxy and they really did have some very interesting world building. Sadly, the series died before we got any answers to some of the questions the games presented. I mean the bad guy in the game was a human, how did that happen? That was a plot line that was being set up.
mattbenz99 [Canadian Gambit] that sounds really cool! I love the series but sadly it didnt get so much traction. I really enjoyed the webisodes and was a bit irked with the VA change to Yuri lowenthal. Not a bad VA but the OG voice had a sarcastic, sassy, tone instead of the “heroic, tamer” voice Lowenthal was directed to do. He could do sarcastic if ya listen to Luke Fon Fabre of Tales of Abyss. Regardless of my VA opinions, spectrobes was a real DS/wii gen
Yeah, I'm playing through BTP again and I really remember why it sealed itself as part of my childhood all those years ago. I ought to find a copy of Origins, as apparently it's really good.
I remember my step dad got spectrobes for me on an emulator when i was like 10 or something and i got super sad when i was screaming at my mic less computer and nothing was happening
I think it should also be noted that the internet culture was kinda new. In the past, people did move on from the stuff they loved as children. But with the internet, no matter how busy people got, they did not have to move on from stuff they loved as children. That is something that people need to remember.
@@BygoneT One of the main reason many series stay popular is because of the internet. In the past, for cartoons (anime or Western) or other series, it was easier to move on from them. But because of the internet, helping people keep up with a series and maybe even watch it later or connect with a community of people that liked something, popularity and longevity of a series was able to increase. But this video did not mention the fact that building a following on the web was able to help Pokemon stay big and have a following.
@@TheDeathmail pokemon absolutely did not get big by building a following on the web. far from it. Pokemon got big during the end of the 90's. So big that it was newsworthy. The internet never even once had anything to do with it. the early teens from back then are the people in their very late twenties and early thirties during the year 2019. The ones who were the original pokemon players, viewers, collectors. as an example: i was 9 and 10 years old when pokemon became so huge that older people feared it. Now i am 31.
Same, I used to play that game like no other when I was younger. Definitly 1 of my favourite games till this day. The running around until you got your cool ability was the best strat by far, don't challenge me xd
Honestly I loved the story in spectrobes, and the soundtrack was beautiful, especially beyond the portals. I loved finding and exploring new planets and defeating different boss krawl. Really sad to see this franchise die out
When I was a child, Spectrobes: Beyond the portals was one of my favourite games. I played that game so many times that I learned the entire game, I could know what was gonna happen and I could know where I could find the spectrobes that I needed. My favourite ones were Pahaxion (dark version of Hapaxion, which in my opinion was absolutly broken), Rydrake, Zaamaros (dark version of Azamaros, which was also broken) and Pinorska (dark version of Spikanor). I also liked the story I wish I could play that game again or they could remake it TwT
I actually remember talking to you about this on Instagram Jack! I got so hyped looking up spectrobes and seeing the monsters, and the characters, so much so I actually bought the first one online... and yeah you pretty much hit all my points on the head, which is such a shame. At least my memories will still be fond
I will always love Spectrobes for what it was to me, but perhaps not what it actually is. The creatures themselves are timeless, tho. They're just as good as I remember
For me, it was Dinosaur King and Fossil Fighters, I still own both and they're pretty fun. They both stood out in their unique style of both gameplay and characters.
tbh if they expanded upon the typings again introduced better combat and allowed for competitive pvp, i think spectrobes could be quite popular, especially if its did its best to retain all its spectrobes throughout the series even if you cant catch them in that region of the galaxy.
I feel if they bring rallen into smash he'd have the same gaming mechanics as pokemon trainer. But maaaannn this video brings back memories! I loved this game and I think I still have the fossil cards that unlock special spectrobes

@@JDReC100 I am not sure if I would say better, because that is subjective, but I will say Spectrobes as a more *consistent* design aesthetic than Digimon.
I got the first one gifted to me by a family friend. And ended up finding the other ones by random chance. This series is special to me. ...my dad was at a Best Buy with my lil sis... the just showed up one night with it surprisingly like that. My sister recognized the cover art and nagged my father to get it. It was incredible. She couldn’t even read yet lmao Definitely made up for the time she nuked my original completed save on the 1st ds game ha
Gokazoa was my favorite in Origins. Though I eventually learned I could just down Krux with a high level Spikanor easy. But it’s no Beyond the Portals Doma-Boma. That Spectrobe is actually broken.
@@ruepel15 There's a version for phones coming as well, but I doubt it will be as enjoyable as playing on a console. :P Anyway, I'm glad to see some love for such an OLD franchise. Had a lot of fun playing the GBA versions and raising some wicked cool Tigers!
@@gamekatt101 sorry to inform you... But it was TRASH compared to the original PlayStation version because the monsters stones were decoded by putting random discs in your PlayStation xD . All the codes used on other systems you could find in game magazines, especially rare monsters with way op stats could only be found by inserting a physical disc in a PlayStation to get the code to generate multiples. There were monsters that the only way to ever generate the first one to get the code to give to someone else was with a specific unique disc no other method or disc could ever generate with rng. No PlayStation version = no cheat sheets of codes. Searching for discs i hadn't tried yet was a huge part of the games fun you missed out on if you played on another system. 3 of the rarest dinos and what cd's they were encoded on were "gallop" on Patti smith's 'wild horses', "geisha" on Bjork's 'homogenic', and "smiley" from 'the forest Gump soundtrack'... My fav was the pixie variant "Eve" from van Halen's album '1984'
The graphics for the first fossil fighters was waaaaay behind the first spectrobes. That was the biggest thing for me. But. I do enjoy both games immensely. I have both trilogies in my collection still xD
BruggleStar Yeah, the graphics in the first game REALLY left a lot to be desired, Champions was WAY better in my opinion. More appealing graphics, "better" story, more interesting characters (in a Saturday morning cartoon kind of way), and cooler vivasaur designs.
The show definitely wasn't, but I'd let it go on the technicality that part of the appeal of the toys was trying to collect all of the Bit-Beasts/Sacred Spirits.
Damn I saw this in my recommended and it awakened some buried memories lol. I definitely think they could bring this series back with the right adjustments. It has a lot of potential to be amazing.
@@selkrasouza6262 Yes, I know they did, but back then it would reach much more on TV since not that many people have Internet like now, and even then there are too short.
That isn't a sure fired way to succeed (the 80's is covered in the corpses of dead advertisement cartoon series).... but you are right, they had disney behind them on this. That could have been an option. At the very least, it could have kept up momentum until someone realized they should make a GOOD game.
The atmosphere of the sun is called „Corona“ and the element in the game is the fire element. Fire is hot and the sun is hot. This is Why the element is called „Corona“.
Monsters rule. Especially Mocchi, Hare, Tiger, Golem, and The All Seeing Eyeball dude that nobody really likes... It had the most fucked up ending of any monster anime and I swear to God it is much darker than most Digimon series. More monsters perma-deathed and Genki losing his mind towards the end was so depressing it only aired once.
One of the best games ever. Gameplay is different than the other mon games. It did not matter if your monster was rare or you got it from the market. You can train it to be very strong.
this game reminds me a lot of fossil fighters!! it had the same sort of digging up fossils mechanic, but the fighting was WAY better! particularly the 2nd game, fossil fighters champions, had an amazing battle set-up that was basic enough for a little me to enjoy but complex enough for an older me to go back and strategize with. (plus the designs are amazing imo up until the most recent game) the best game in the series is champions, so you should check it out if you haven't :0
I really loved this game, mostly in the fact that I love the concept of digging stuff up, I never got the first game, but I loved playing it's sequal, finding the little critters, digging them out of the rock, the little "daycare" space was adorable, but yeah, combat admittedly was kinda blah, kinda grindy, and sooome of the sound design was a bit ear aching, kinda why I enjoyed that Dinosaur game a bit afterwards, but I always wish another game wld pick up the idea of the 3d excavation and collection Spectrobes started.
I remember playing spectrobes: beyond the portal, and I remember absolutely loving it. Although I was never able to actually complete the game, I remember being so intrigued when I found a new fossil, and I absolutely love spectrobes beyond the portal, If they came out with a new game, for any device, I would definately buy it and play it.
Acetalos - I remember playin both an the wii gam being my favorite of the two. Maybe it was because of how you could play co-op with you controlling Rallen and another person controlling the Spectrobe which I did all the way through with a friend. There was also something like a new game+ mode after beating it.
I have literally never heard about this until now. I am not gonna play the games, but I am off to their wikia to gawk at these designs because they really ARE fantastic.
Spectrobes is rad, but do any of y'all remember Monsuno? I remember collecting the toys!! Also, the fossil aspect of spectrobes was also used in fossil fighters in an almost identical way, and I think fossil fighters sold better, so in terms of competition, that might have had an impact.
I had never heard of spectrobes before but the mechanic of making the monster from ancient statues and having to dig it up and excavate it is really cool and I would have loved it as a kid. I love the concept now, but its a shame to hear that the games dont hold up
doesn't matter how flashy and nice your character design is if the world their in isn't fun. At the end of the day... Gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, and no matter how good the other parts of a game may be, if the gameplay is lacking... then you made a bad game. Even if its character design is good, character design is just a single facet of game design. And not even the most important one.
I loved spectrobes! I also remember almost all of the games you mentioned. Bakugan, dinosaur king, bay blade. I’m not even that old, but I loved these games When my brother showed them to me
I loved that game, i played both ds games and thought they were awesome, but yeah, didn't work out. It would be cool if someone were to take the franchise and make something new with it.
Man, I just got one hell of a flashback from the thumbnail. I know not everyone might've bough or enjoyed or even knew the franchise existed, but man did I LOVE this series when I was younger. I bought both Spectrobes games on DS, and even the Wii game, Origins. I wish I knew where my copies went, because I'd probably still play them to this day if I knew where they were. Alas, the failing memory of a preteen me saw that they'd never be seen again...
It's so weird. I remember playing the game and I remember even finishing it, but I can't remember a single thing that happened. However, when the melody played in the video I instantly could recreate it in my head and all of the Spectrobes shown felt very familiar. I know I spend alot of time in this game, but I literally don't remember a thing.

I remember the Dinosaur King Anime. There was a brief Dinosaur craze there for a few years and a lot of companies took advantage of this. Unfortunately, many did think of how they'd try and sustain their shot after the craze went down and as the craze faded, so too did the series.

@ThePOKOkitty It's still Bakugan. The relaunch has made it impossible to find the toys and it's like 2008/2009 all over again. What are the game mechanics of Astral Chain?
@@g3ek178 The mechanic that's notable for the purpose of this conversation is that in Astral Chain, you control both the human character and a monster called a Legion at the same time, and you can switch between 5 different Legions on the fly. Each Legion has a different playstyle and exclusive skills. Combat is very combo-heavy and requires you to be mindful of the positioning of both characters.
It sounds complicated, and it is, but the dual-character controls are a good deal more intuitive than the concept probably makes it sound.
"Developers like Game Freak know that they can't just market their games to kids"

Uh, no it doesn't. The twitter/reddit echo chamber doesn't actually make up the adult pokemon fan-base. SwSh are still highly appealing to them/us, and the sales reflect it.

But Fossil Fighters is another really great CM franchise that died to the Nuts and Bolts affect.
Yes
Yeah, fossil fighters was great but the third was just too different
It removed all the non dinosaur vivosaurs and it made battles less flashy

A few inaccuracies:
There were PvP battles in the original Spectrobes for the multiplayer; there weren't just Krawl fights.
I think my copy of Spectrobes must’ve been corrupted as a kid. I was never able to progress past the final boss. Or maybe I was just stupid- I dunno.
Fossil fighters, anyone...? The whole digging them out of fossils idea... hmm...

Fossil Fighters will always be the best to me. Countless nights spent in bed, just playing the game again and again, and never tiring of it.
Yeah but a kid would struggle drawing celesteela too lmao
When I was a kid, I really enjoyed those complicated styles. My favorite Pokémons always were hard to draw, and I really loved Spectrobes because of aesthetics (and I couldn't really wait to get past the fluffy stage to see the cool and powerful designs).

The show definitely wasn't, but I'd let it go on the technicality that part of the appeal of the toys was trying to collect all of the Bit-Beasts/Sacred Spirits.
@@Potassiumkloride
Collectible? Sure.
Monsters? No.
If anything, it was a sports anime with beast auras.
@@Bezaliel13 I mean, digimon literally stands for 'digital monsters'...
@@XeoKnight
So, it is a mons franchise, but you do not *collect* digimon in the base product.
@@Bezaliel13 Fair enough
Damn I saw this in my recommended and it awakened some buried memories lol. I definitely think they could bring this series back with the right adjustments. It has a lot of potential to be amazing.
I think Spectrobes died out because they didn't make a TV show. So simple yet so powerful...
Nido Hime Holy hell if they made a tv show that looked like the CG shorts they made that'd have been the shit as a kid.
They actually did make an online series that you can watch now on UA-cam.
@@acidonia150 Really? I didn't notice. It wouldn't be a doubt more people thought it was a fake game for the show.
you hit me with that "theyre fossils" and i went FOSSIL FIGHTERS?
Another lost gem
Oh, the memories
The last fossil fighters game came out 4 years ago. The chances of getting a new fossil fighters game are alot higher than getting a new spectrobes.
That_Fishing_Gamer Fingers crossed my dude, I hope it’s that way.
@@Pinnaporaptor yeah, I would love a spectrobes remake but its probably never happening, but theres hope for fossil fighters yet
5:31 holy moly Spectrobes created the Corona Virus before 2020!
ahahahahahaha
Or it’s named after the beer.
Wow you are so funny wow
The atmosphere of the sun is called „Corona“ and the element in the game is the fire element. Fire is hot and the sun is hot. This is Why the element is called „Corona“.
@@ninjan2002 are you joking or just...
You didnt talk about the Wii game spectrobes origins I remember it being a lot better than the DS games
I really hope some other JAPANESE studio buys the ip from Disney. Disney doesn't deserve the IP tbh.
The Wii version had coop multiplayer. Remember playing it with a friend once.
"I only learned about (Monster Rancher) a few years ago" Wha! ... but... but Monsters rule...
If you run into anyone that still plays MR, feel free to direct them to the Monster Rancher Discord.
@@imlaughing2death I do. I play the one on the GBA and DS. I have a physical copy of Monster Rancher Advance 2 and play the DS one on an emulator.
One of the best games ever. Gameplay is different than the other mon games. It did not matter if your monster was rare or you got it from the market. You can train it to be very strong.
@@princesspikachu3915 the Eyeball is named Suezo
honestly this was the best fever dream that was confirmed true for me
Sometimes I forget it was ever real...
Spectrobes had me so ridiculously addicted..
Way worse than any Pokémon Game besides maybe Pokémon Collosseum
"And developers like gamefreak know that they can't just market their games to kids"
uhhh yeah do they really know? ^^
they've forgotten that fact since the staff turnover after gen 5.
They sure seem to, considering it makes up the bulk of their players, an they've successfully made millions from them for the past 10+ years.
this game reminds me a lot of fossil fighters!! it had the same sort of digging up fossils mechanic, but the fighting was WAY better! particularly the 2nd game, fossil fighters champions, had an amazing battle set-up that was basic enough for a little me to enjoy but complex enough for an older me to go back and strategize with. (plus the designs are amazing imo up until the most recent game)
the best game in the series is champions, so you should check it out if you haven't :0
Still remember the wii game fondly. Don't know if it was better, but it had a story at least lol
I'm gonna have to give it another shot, so many people seem to like it!
@@Subjectively Please do. It was a while ago but I remember it being my favorite game on the Wii and also my favorite game in the franchise
Was it really that good? I remember beyond the portal was good
Acetalos - I remember playin both an the wii gam being my favorite of the two. Maybe it was because of how you could play co-op with you controlling Rallen and another person controlling the Spectrobe which I did all the way through with a friend. There was also something like a new game+ mode after beating it.
@@librask3009 Guess I should get that game when I have the time
First two Fossil fighters games were pretty amazing, never played the third but I kinda figured that was why the series died
Eidolon Bidadari dude same. First games plot was wacky fr
Eidolon Bidadari third was trash, they completely left out everything that made the first two fossil fighters great
Wait there was a third game???
@@MangekyoFlower yes, and we do not speak of it
Rus I didn’t even know that there was a third game. Lol
I have literally never heard about this until now. I am not gonna play the games, but I am off to their wikia to gawk at these designs because they really ARE fantastic.
i recommend the Wii game Spectrobes Origins. its really good
Spectrobes is rad, but do any of y'all remember Monsuno? I remember collecting the toys!!
Also, the fossil aspect of spectrobes was also used in fossil fighters in an almost identical way, and I think fossil fighters sold better, so in terms of competition, that might have had an impact.
Monsuno was pretty cool but it was at times a bit bland, in terms of designs, at least. The story was a little more engaging
“Who remember Spectrobes?”
Me who have never heard of it before: 🙂
I had never heard of spectrobes before but the mechanic of making the monster from ancient statues and having to dig it up and excavate it is really cool and I would have loved it as a kid.
Clearly Spectrobes needs to be revived.... WAAAAKE UUUUP!!!
Yeah that corona element from 5:30 is pretty op, its recently destroyed a ton of the meta after leaving china.
XD
4:15 this sounds suspiciously similar to another creature collector Fossile Fighters.
Yes, Fossil Fighters took a lot of ideas from Spectrobes
I loved spectrobes! I also remember almost all of the games you mentioned. Bakugan, dinosaur king, bay blade. I’m not even that old, but I loved these games When my brother showed them to me
Mon trainer ash D
Bakugan and Dinosaur King are my entire childhood- probably near the same amount as Pokemon lol
Mon trainer ash D

Egg fucking XACTLY bro. Same
Dinosaur king is godlike and you can not deny it
Also the fact that fire element is called Corona.........
I loved that game, i played both ds games and thought they were awesome, but yeah, didn't work out.
It would be cool if someone were to take the franchise and make something new with it.
I NEEEED A SPECTROBES REMAKE FOR SWITCH 😭😭😭😭
Man, I just got one hell of a flashback from the thumbnail. I know not everyone might've bough or enjoyed or even knew the franchise existed, but man did I LOVE this series when I was younger. I bought both Spectrobes games on DS, and even the Wii game, Origins. I wish I knew where my copies went, because I'd probably still play them to this day if I knew where they were. Alas, the failing memory of a preteen me saw that they'd never be seen again...
Finally someone who speaks about this game. I loved it and lowkey always wish for a new game in the series. Love the vid
that theme is so nostalgic
It's so weird. I remember playing the game and I remember even finishing it, but I can't remember a single thing that happened.
However, when the melody played in the video I instantly could recreate it in my head and all of the Spectrobes shown felt very familiar.
I know I spend alot of time in this game, but I literally don't remember a thing.
The fossil digging especially reminds me of Fossil Fighters
Monster Rancher was my jam every morning at 7:30
Holy shuck, when you showed the Spectrobes Gameplay Video that reawakened a childhood memory long forgotten. I used to have one of the titles on my old DS.

Oh, how times have changed for the worse...
X and y was a cakewalk but sun and moon was tough. The ultra necrozma boss was crazy annoying
After Gen V and VI it actually went better again tbh... I feel like Pokémon hit it’s low with Gen V
@@c-gcoconutgun2577 I didn't have a problem with s/m because of pokemon refresh and the fact that the game loves to shove revives/potions down your urethra
@PikaCinema It's not only the difficulty of the games, Game Freak has expressed for a while how they view their demographic as young kids.
Dinosaur king may have been a knockoff, but the anime was cool. Then got weird in the time travel season, which I remember leaving off at the climax, not the end of the story.
I remember the Dinosaur King Anime. There was a brief Dinosaur craze there for a few years and a lot of companies took advantage of this. Unfortunately, many did think of how they'd try and sustain their shot after the craze went down and as the craze faded, so too did the series.
Flash, Aurora and... wait, CORONA!
This reminds me so much of Invizimals. that used to be my spectrobes when i was a kid.
I just grabbed my psp and im gonna play it again.
