Guaranteed income programs are popping up or expanding across the country. Cities like Ann Arbor, Rochester, Cambridge, Denver, LA and San Francisco have all piloted free money programs.

The government could also do the unthinkable: Shrink itself to prevent taxes from going up. One of the promises of UBI is that complex services (and thus complex bureaucracy) would no longer be needed. But a government voluntarily shrinking itself is unlikely to happen.
ps. As you spoke about UBI and recently also AI displacing workers, how do you see the political interplay there? AI could theoretically get taxed on a token basis to provide for (part of) the UBI spending. As those companies stand to explode in cashflow this would be practical IMO. The ethics I am still pondering.
