I totally agree with moving the bar all the time. I still remember stressing about buying a bag that cost 100$, I thought it soooo expansive! But the next one was 250$, cause it’s only a bit more expensive. And from there 500$, and now 1000$ feels like a bargain. It’s kinda scary if you think about it :/
Thank you for this video. I completely agree and after 20+ years of buying luxury, I've accumulated enough designer stuff to last a lifetime. I've tried now to be more mindful because of my kids and financial goals, so I limit the big ticket designer things to 2-3 items a year. I think long and hard for months before adding anything to my collection. I'm also focusing more on jewelry as I find it brings me more joy than my handbags. You mentioned social media, but the problem is bloggers and UA-camrs are doing ridiculous hauls every two weeks, which conditions people to think that it's normal.
Yes. I don’t knock anyone but some people are unboxing 3 bags a week or 2. I know they can write off some own their taxes and some are gifted. They need to disclose the gift.
@@ColourfulNoir I agree great video. I need to look hard into my own stuff and go through a cleanse of my closet. I also would like to turn down the social media stuff. I always think I may miss out on something by doing this. Which I guess is the whole marketing plan in the first place. To keep you on the hook.
Now before I buy something, I get up and look at all my belongings. It helps me tell if I really need it. If I'm at a shop, I leave it. If I'm still thinking about it after a while, I let myself buy it (length of time is proportionate to price - Zara, 1 week. Luxury, many weeks). Xx
Just did this today. Went shopping just to kill time and brought something's I really didn't need but didn't want to go home empty handed cause I didn't want to think it was a wasted trip. I have to much of every thing and now feel overwhelmed by my stuff. It's really time to curate my closet to feel like not controlled by my things.
If you want to lessen your collections, you might want to sell them to me I am looking for 2 belts beige and black, 1 scarf and 1 bag hopefully beige as well😊
You are so right, Eileen. You always have such great insight. When I was young, I would draw clothes and show them to my mom's seamstress. She didn't only hem pants and sleeves, she could make a pattern from a sketch. At the time I was going to the clubs in Manhattan and wanted to always have a one of a kind outfit. I aspired to be a fashion designer and I brought my portfolio and the clothes to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) for an interview to be enrolled. When the interviewer realized I wasn't sewing the clothes, he said I was only qualified to be accepted to the Buying curriculum. I went to an employment agency to get a summer job and was sent to a corporate office to be a buyer's Model/Clerical. I was offered it and I took the position immediately. I think that is why I am so mindful about purchases. I am very particular because I like one of a kind pieces and yet now I know that classic is intelligent. So the balance between classic and original is a fine line. I know I have done a wonderful job of it. I Love connecting to someone as yourself. I have a lot of respect for you.
Because we crave the experience! It's nice to be treated nicely by the SAs, and u get this awesome feeling when u carry the paperbag home. And the unboxing, opening the box, taking the item out of the dustbag.
For this year I’m looking to buy less and invest in better quality everything, including handbags! Unfortunately Luxury doesn’t always reflect to quality, some brands increase the prices and reduce the quality! Looking to find the true excitement like saving 3 years for my first Designer Bag and buying nothing else because otherwise I couldn’t afford it! Time to go back to basics!
I wouldn't say that I am addicted, but I began to feel more and more upset, and when you said social media plays a role in consumption, I was like this is it! The next 2 days I had off, I didn't look on instagram for any adds, no youtube videos with integrated ads, or shopping hauls. After that I felt so much lighter and more myself again. Great advice as always!
You are absolutely right! People are constantly shopping for excitement to fill the void/boredom, to make them happy, chase the next thrill, social media, peer pressure etc. Shopping, regardless whether it’s luxury bag, clothing or electronic gadget, it can never end because there is always new trend, style & design. So like you always say, set your priorities straight and always ask yourself first if you can afford/need it or not. Another good vlog Eileen. Keep up the good work 🙏🏻
Because shopping is fun 🤩. The sun ☀️ is shining, the birds 🐦 are singing and you feel everything is possible. People at shop always smiling and so nice.. until you see the credit card 💳 bill - you cry and go shopping 🛍 again..
I, too, have "embraced the joy of having less" when it comes to luxury handbags. I look back on the last few years and wonder what was I thinking? LOL. I guess I was filling some void. Now I have less expensive hobbies.
I enjoy this approach, too, because I realize that at some point the 'inventory' becomes burdensome because I am not using the items and to deliberately rotate the items takes effort and energy. The "high" of buying doesn't last.
I can relate to a couple of urges I should have not given into. I've also had the attitude that I needed to not go home empty handed even if it meant just buying a new lipstick. I talked myself out of purchasing a Prada wallet the other day, it was a silly thought because I don't need another designer wallet and I realized I was just a little bored. Once again your video makes perfect sense so thank you for your wisdom!
Spent about $500 one day on clothes, realized I had a shopping problem when a year later I only wore about 20% of those clothes. Definitely learned the hard way, but I am trying my hardest to not spend money on things I don’t need only because they offer as you stated, “temporary happiness.” I do still shop here and there but it’s only two things off the clearance section.😄 Be smart with your money people.
I’m late to this luxury world. I enjoyed contemporary designer bags for most of my adult life, but didn’t buy my first luxury bag until I was 62. I’m now 63. Yes, I bought several bags this year because my priorities were no longer about my kids, college, weddings, etc. I’m a late bloomer. I bought two Gucci bags (new) and three LV bags (pre-loved). I bought a couple of YSL bags, but they were too dressy for my lifestyle so I returned them. Maybe this late in life I finally feel like I deserve nice things? I don’t know. It’s a waste of money, but I am enjoying them. I’m especially enjoying my SLGs. I love having a beautiful wallet and key cles. I do tell myself that I will be leaving classic pieces to my adult daughters along with my beautiful jewelry, so that is a consolation also.
BTW, I do not buy expensive clothing or luxury shoes. I’m retired and dress very casually. Bags are my one splurge. My fine jewelry I’ve had for years and years.
Thank you so much for sharing! You've worked hard for your family, so I think treating yourself to some nice things is more than OK! Enjoy your pieces in good health xx
As a fellow luxe UA-camr, I have to say, you are one of the most relatable here Eileen. Once again, great video! 👍 Balance and gratitude are key and I find that shopping is actually MORE fun when we’re mindful and choiceful with our pieces. 💗 Much love! 😘
Another reason: aspirational shopping. Oh, I'll lose weight and look great in this dress. Oh, I'll organize my linen closet and need all these bins. Oh, I'm going to work out more, so I'll buy all this gear. Oh, I'm going to socialize more with friends, so I need this nice handbag for dinners. I don't usually have a shopping problem, but when I do spend more than I should, I notice that it is due to my aspirations of who I want to be. So I remind myself, aspirations are good, but take action first, spend money later. Great video Eileen! ❤️
As someone who tries to practise minimalism but also love luxe (and tbh, just stuff in general), I like having these reminders in order for me to move towards my minimalism journey.
I totally understand and agree with what you are saying. I sold Gucci, Prada, YSL and Chanel bags, plus all the designer shoes to TRR just last month. I donated some items to Goodwill too. I kept some of my favorites Chanel and Hermes bags :D Very nice video, thank you!
Eileen- You are so wise and I think it’s great that you share you advice here on UA-cam. I agree with everything you say. I often wonder if these excessive buyers actually enjoy all their purchases? I like nice things and I’ve always bought nice things, but it’s not a hobby. The wealthiest people I know don’t run around head to toe in Chanel and Hermès. They put their money in real estate, investments, antiques, private clubs. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thanks for this video! I realised that shopping became my new norm lately and I spent a lot of money 💸!!! I felt super panic about that and so I started to do reflections and ask myself. I think the reason behind is that I felt distressed and delighted when I shop. Now I tried to control myself by reducing my time looking at the shopping websites and focus on my interest which is playing piano, and I think it works!💖
You got this! I feel the same, when I use the time for walks, reading, and playing with my little boy, it's so much more fulfilling than shopping for happiness xx
Another great video, Eileen! I do think I have a shopping problem. I’ve actually committed to not buying myself a single item of clothing or any accessories for myself this year, including handbags. It has already been so hard and I’ve noticed that I sometimes feel upset and incomplete when I watch others’ unboxings. I think it will be very difficult for me to not buy anything for myself this year, but videos like this help me uncover the truth about my habits and help me recommit to what I set out to do! Thank you for the encouragement!
I think there's a lot to be said about just not having anything else to do during 2020. people who usually would go see friends or go out to eat now were just stuck at home. I think that's a big reason why luxury shopping slows down a lot when you have kids. Because they take up a lot of your time
I did not realize that I am addicted shopper until I watch the video. It is time for me to change and no more shipping. Thank you, thank you. What a amazing video is.
Thank you Eileen. That's why I have dont watch youtubers. And I block the stores so I cannot get their emails. I am not going to compare myself to anyone else because I don't know what their financial status is. I need to save my money, we are in a recession and I am not married to Watten Buffet, Bill Gates or Jeff Bozos. We are spending our money and these luxury brands are getting wealthier.
Very helpful video! I think I also shop because I like finding good discounts. It feels like an accomplishment when I can save money when I buy something even though not buying anything at all would be the biggest savings.
Thanks so much for sharing. Marketing strategy for luxury items on social media can’t be underestimated. Even when I don’t have a feeling on certain luxury item at first, they do grow in my heart as I see them more and more on social platforms.
As an accountant I absolutely love & appreciate these videos. I personally refuse to buy something new until at least 3 to 6 months after the previous purchase. I like to have a chance to enjoy the new item before I get anything else. I also have a carefully curated wish list of classics, I will only purchase items from the list that I have carefully researched & given myself a chance to think about how it will work in with my lifestyle & items I already own, if there is any doubt I won’t buy. It’s made such a big difference with my shopping addiction & of course my bank account. I personally don’t like to wear anymore than one or two (three at a stretch depending on the items) designer items at once, this stops me from coveting the collections of lux UA-camrs & allows me to just watch & appreciate the beauty of their collections from afar, knowing that what I have is more than enough.
Wow it is like you were describing myself when you said you studied a lot when you were younger and then discovered shopping as an activity once I started working. I used to go to malls to browse after work. I noticed that even buying a whole bunch of clothes on sale can add up to a lot of clutter and bills. I used to order tee shirts online and I accumulated over two grand in debt just buying tee shirts and trinkets online. You are totally right about getting used to higher price points over time when it comes to luxury item prices. I am doing the low buy year and my focus is on self care when it comes to products I do buy this year. You made a good point in one of your other videos when you said not to eat ramen and instead nourish ourselves with healthy food because it shows on our skin and teeth. I am watching less haul videos lately too. It is a work in progress.
FOMO is also a shopping instigator for me because my favorite brand, Chanel, will not keep special pieces in stock. So I fear if I don’t get it on the spot, it will not be there next week or even the next day. But after several years of over shopping, I am more than ready to take a breather. I intend to slow WAY down this year.
Hopefully I am over the worst of my “Chanel Frenzy”. I Have quite a few bags, some RTW, shoes, boots, jewelry, etc. And it has finally dawned on me that there will ALWAYS be treasures available in future collections, so I can pass on the latest ones and still be assured that I will find more in future releases.
Have watched so may unboxing videos to be honest I have never been tempted to buy any of what I saw. Since I discovered the $12 parking in our CBD I frequent the shops at least once a month to take my oldest to lunch. I'm parking my bags to move in with Eileen. She always have the best content on UA-cam
Loved this. Im looking to buy my first luxury bag, a speedy. And im ALREADY thinking about the next. I want to cherish this first bag as an experience, memory, and a testament to my hard work, not as a high.
I'm really really hard on myself, i write down my wishlist, then i create an album or pinterest board of all my wishlist. I compare it for months. If i still want it in 6 months and im sure i will get a lot of use out of it, i'll buy it.
Thank you so much for saying this! It is so important to balance and share honesty and not just go along with what gets a dopamine hit. I greatly appreciate you encouraging a Healthy lifestyle, these are great reminders. I’ve watched a couple other videos from you that popped up on my feed but this one is what made me hit the subscribe button, we all could use some practicality in this sea of shopaholism. 💓💗
I have been buying luxury and even more last year. No matter what excuses I have, legitimate or not, such as overcoming the pandemic, deeply I know not only I don't need them, but also guilty when I watch my kids play without much needed. I have decided to be on the right track from now on and hopefully I am strong enough to overcome my own weakness.
I agree with you so much!! My little boy Isaac is only 5, but all he wants is to play with mum and dad. He doesn't need a lot of toys and he's always coming up with different ideas to play with what he has. I learn so much from just watching him xx
@@ColourfulNoir Its' very true that less is more whether to our kids or us. Other than the material things, information wise, we had been overwhelmed with more than necessary. The online browsing time could be sufficient enough for book reading, nice conversation with our little ones or just relax. Thank you for the continuous guide and share of your strength in the right direction.
An amazing feeling in life is when you are content with what you have. It’s so true that you get a high from your purchases but unfortunately this doesn’t last for long and so we continue to behave this way to get that feeling again. I don’t have a large collection of bags but at the moment I am very content with what I have. I have one pair of luxury shoes and there are a few I would like to purchase in the future, possibly this year if we’re able to.....depending on our world situation. I feel very blessed with what I have and at the moment am happy and content. Another great video Eileen.😊💖🙏
Only buy a combination of high quality and classic pieces and use them a lot for a long time (hopefully life time long). These items are worth investing. I rarely buy seasonal pieces, as they normally don’t go well with everyday outfit and could be outdated within 2 -3 yrs
Yep. I decided to only add one bag to my closet this year and to get all the vachetta replaced on my Samir 30 this year. I don’t need any other bags. I sold 6 between December and January this year. I will only have 5 now.
Thank you Eileen!!! Great video!!! A couple years back, I started realizing my shopping was keeping me hostage. So I started doing a lot research on dopamine rush. After understanding my personality and how childhood memories were influencing my behavior, I got much much better. To acknowledge you, yes..... brain function, marketing, personality and soul searching help us a lot to get to know ourselves in deeper ways and avoid the pressure from our commerce platform, who is constantly trying to tell us that we need more more and more to be complete. Perspective and self-knowledge are key. Thank you for the critical thinking on the subject and for sharing it with us
Hello dear, I'm loving your video!!! I was a shopping addicted in the past but now I stopped myself completely as I realized I was buying the most of my things because of bargains or because I was finding something nice, even though it wasn't matching with the rest of my closet. After a massive purge now I'm using pretty much everything I own but when it comes to buy I'm confused about what I should buy so in the end I feel a certain sort of "panic" and I end up leaving the physical shop or the full basket when I'm online! I hope your videos can expire me to do the best decisions instead to just avoid them!😘😘😘
Hi Eileen. I usually never comment, but I simply have to tell you how happy I am to have found your channel! 🤍 I have set quite a big saving goal for myself this year, leaving a very limited room to spend what I normally would on bags, jewelry etc. and the points you make in your videos, as well as the perspectives provided, is honestly very needed and helpful. So I just wanted to say thank you for that ☺️🙌🏻
I love your sensible-shopping videos and how balanced your perspective is 🙂. I’m definitely guilty of emotional shopping and I have to remind myself selling a bag can be annoying and time consuming not to mention expensive. I lost a lot selling my Celine nano which I “had to have”. 🙁 Chanel is the worst because I feel like if I don’t snag it now it will be gone or it will go up in price. Keep the videos coming!❤️
I have already unsubscribed to many emails and newsletters, and even if I will come across 1 or 2 ads/pop-ups, I will immediately skip on it and move on. Right now, I am only viewing videos about minimalism, intentional and mindful acquisitions, savings and buying less. I have also been showing interest in ethical and sustainable brands only because I abhor the huge effect of those who use non-recyclable materials on our environment. This mindset will spiral into minimalism because you will be buying LESS and mindfully, scrutinizing stuff how they were manufactured and whether they apply the zero initiative on their brands. Having said that, your videos are always aligned with my new found advocacy and interest. Keep it coming!
Just watched a few of your videos and I'm really enjoying them. You use exact language to explain your opinion so you don't need to ramble. Your tone and diction are lovely
great video, thank you for making this great content. I definitely have been purchasing like that as well and now im much more relaxed about shopping and wanting to put my money towards my goals as opposed to buying my things.
Right on point once more Eileen. The concept of why we need to keep buying things and the temporary feel of satisfaction and happiness this gives us is correct. Another point to be considered is a shopper's background. Some, buy things-not necessarily the "real" thing- because of a hard upbringing and this is a way to make up for it. Either way, your advice is right on target and I hope it makes all of us think and re consider how we want to spend our hard earned money. I like that I'm able to hear your voice now! There's no need for background "music" Thank you!
I love shopping and I had done many impulse shopping. I plan to unsubscribe some shops and spend less time browsing for non essential items. I love your videos, thanks for sharing.
You have a point when you say people buy matching things to go with their new bag. Thankfully I was able to stop buying matching SLGs for my bags. I have enough and will only get one if I really want one, not because I feel I need to. Great tips as always!
You’ve hit the nail on the head Eileen. I like your attitude towards luxury and over consumption and all those things you mentioned I struggle with. New subscriber here! Keep with the very mindful videos!
I really enjoy watching your videos I am going thru some changes, moved into a small condo from a big home and three big walking closets and love your style and now I buy few basic very nice things a year and everything I have is visible and love it. Again thanks
Great video! Thank you!!! You’ve helped me really get excited about curating my wardrobe and simplifying my purchases. It’s a fun challenge! What helped me, as well, was looking at the space in my apartment/closet as having value, and realizing how nice it feels to have an organized and clutter-free closet. It saves time and much stress when getting ready for the day.
I’m so glad I have been watching your videos. I’m working to be more minimalist, but I still want some nice things. Your current mindset is something I am working to adopt.
Hi Eileen, For me it began with trying to keep up with fashion that I saw in magazines... I guess clothes, handbags and gorgeous shoes are more than getting dressed... it is an artistic expression....and it is a very social experience.... I have fond memories of laughing and being happy with sales associates ... then going for a nice lunch with beautiful shopping bags 🛍 Since Covid, I have stopped this because I can’t breathe well with a mask. I have been shopping online ( too much) because my work is on hold and I have too much time on my hands... I am very inspired by this video and I plan to brainstorm some solutions until hopefully life will return to normal. As you mentioned humans get easily conditioned to a way of life... I pray the tide will change.. Ana Sophia
Great video again! Sometimes I think that less is more. Too much of anything can be overwhelming. All you need in my opinion is a curated wadrobe , things that are easy to style and look good on themselves. It makes me personally feel so good! Regarding expensive or lux bags. I I've been wanted a particular bag for years and years but never really got is as my priorities were my family..... Now tgat they are older I feel that if the time comes to get what I've been wanting for many years. Thanks again for sharing Eileen. Take care and stay safe. :)
Oh yes...it is so true that we get used to crazy prices for handbags/other luxury good and so we go on and on and on. I saved up a long time for my first Speedy...and then this barrier was broken in some way. I bouhght 3 more luxury bags within a year...and tbh: it never felt so good and exciting again like the first time!
Thank you for this video! This is completely me and I have consider my behavior and taken steps by unfollowing those luxury groups. I need to keep going! Thank you! I will watch more of your video!
Great video! So helpful in my journey to buy less... I first unfollowed a lot of accounts on Instagram. Ever since, I've also gotten used to ignoring shopping app notifications (too lazy to turn it off now). My "wish list" is also now down to 3 items. I think it's a good way to focus on my goals without getting distracted with low-priced vintage pieces or other pretty bags or offers. So far, I still enjoy looking at new bags but I scan my head for my collection and usually I end up thinking of something I already have that is similar. I still hope we get to go out more soon so I can continue to use what I have and discover what bags I really love because my next step is to downsize a bit more.
I just ask myself this question today when I was looking at bags today. Thank you for sharing. These are some very smart observation. I am glad that you have shared them with us and it helps to keep from over spending.💛
I swear you can see what I’m doing 😂 and your videos help me to snap back into reality and focus on goals instead of shopping temptation I have to look at your videos several times to help.
real talk! also, the 2020 shopping-because-it-is-a-stressful-year, absolutely got the best of us! 😔 it would take some time to change ur shopping mindset, but this video helps me realize to be more careful on spending.. wonderful video! ❤️
Hi Eileen, I was a shopping addict. My siblings have compared me to the main character in the book Confessions of a shopaholic. I have actually recovered but as you mentioned many have started to do some emotional shopping in 2020....🙋🏻♀️ that's me...For more than a decade and a half I got rid of the addiction but I feel it creeping in again... I love what you mentioned in your video and it's definitely a great reminder for me to do more mindful shopping. I am not much on social media however yes this pandemic has me watching so many YT videos and that's where I discovered what I would want to add my collection and how to obtain it. I have even signed up for IG. Now I am shopping through IG as well 😅. I am happy to say that I have been selling some items since I am acquiring new ones but I still think I am buying more than I should. As you well know some pieces are limited and this does drive at the price up. Thanks again, great content! Take care and stay safe. 💕
Thank you for sharing! Selling the pieces you don't use is certainly a good place to start. When I sold my items, it really hit me that I was losing a lot of money and I should start being more mindful xx
@@ColourfulNoir Thanks Eileen. I am setting my goal and categorizing my pieces. How many luxury bags do you have in your current collection? I think I am going to limit myself at 15 or 16 bags and Maybe 10 slgs ... does that seem pretty reasonable enough?
Thank you for your insightful commentary 🤍👍 I believe that shopping addictions are a side effect of capitalism. I know when I had more income I spent more but now I’m enjoying the simple life.
You are a smart person. I love and enjoy this video because I love your articulation of your thoughts ( I agree with everything) and your voice is so soothing. I would recommend this video to anyone. 😊
Reasons 1 and 2 are why I resolved never to go down the path of luxury shopping, once I did my self evaluation and mapped out that this is what I'll end up doing. I believe that at the heart of all this is our sense of identity at work. Pre social media, there were already fashion magazines, image consultants or whatever showing us xx things/ways to freshen up/upgrade/renew our wardrobe/style/hair/image etc. Thats because the clothing and accessories we put on our persons contribute towards an identity that we want to show the world. And for what purpose? For the self assured, it's just to communicate to others the person you are. For others it's to seek affirmation and validation of your position in the society, workplace, community and even family. So the constant shopping can be signs of trying to craft a new identity for ourselves because we are dissatisfied with our current one. I mean which one of us has never thought that getting our hands on this bag or clothing item that we saw on this model/influencer will turn us into that person with her glamorous lifestyle as opposed to our current humdrum ones? Overall, great video, Eileen! Looking for more of such indepth topics to discuss in future.❤
Thank you so much for sharing your insights, Evelyn! I absolutely loved it! You're so right, many times we use physical things to portray who we want the society to see us as. It's so important to slow down and see things as just things xx
Great contents, Eileen! Spot on observations! 🙌😅 Yes, and online shopping is another visit to the endless rabbit 🐰 hole especially cos it's so convenient. Just scroll, browse and click Pay. Buying spree also feeds the endorphin to the brain as retail therapy. People needs to keep spending to feel satisfied and their collection fresh! (Something new) However reselling some of the former items are mostly losing money, troublesome and simply an excuse to raise funds to buy a new bag. 😅
@@ColourfulNoir And you raised an important point too, getting used to the ridiculous high priced ticket items. 🙌🙌🙌 If you think about it rationally, a bag is end day, is just a leather bag so since when is a bag with a hefty price at 3k before it's deemed as worth it? Major score point that we convinced ourselves it's worth it cos it's branded. We get influenced and sucked into the luxury game and it's usually a walk down in the rabbit hole 🐰😜 If it's not branded, it's not even considered as "worth it". At most, I put in craftsmanship and design of the bag as the other 2 logic factors into the exhorbitant price tag.. 😅 End day most of the money we paid is for their brand marketing activities, ambassador fees (the movie stars affiliated to these brands) and the feel good feeling of able to afford a "luxury" bag.
I only have 4 bags and 2 SLGs. I sold a couple of items just to remove anything I don’t use. I’m looking to purchase one more Chanel and then a Birkin 25 so I should be done then. I’m not someone who likes excessive items.
I have a notebook for recording what I buy (only fashion, not grocery) each month. At the end of month, I will calculate how much I spent and mark love or nah for the items I purchased. And I also write my wishlist in the notebook to remind myself what I truly want.
Loved this, all the points work perfectly with normal day to day shopping too. I've made too many Amazon purchases recently where I thought about something I needed and within a minute had a confirmation email about my purchase. Decided to pause the service for 6 months. Way too easy and I looked on my ShopPay app, I've made over 100 online orders since last July. 🤦🏾♀️
You always talking to me 🤣🤣🤣 so directly. Absolutely true starting low price than more and more expensive. 😭😭😭 😂😂😂 love your thoughts. Now I’m scare to go out to the mall because every time I go I want something new. Yesterday I went to the mall just hang out and I stop at Burberry and found the most beautiful coat and scarf 😊😊🤩🤩
Thank you for this video. I think I’ll try to do no luxury this year... except for one Chanel RTW item I’ve reserved 😅 But in all seriousness, i appreciate your point of view and voice of reason amidst all the hauls and unboxing videos. Helps me rethink and reassess why I shop. Please keep them coming! 🤩

But the next one was 250$, cause it’s only a bit more expensive. And from there 500$, and now 1000$ feels like a bargain. It’s kinda scary if you think about it :/
Definitely! My husband said it's like buying the generic ice-cream before upgrading to Haagen Dazs 😆
Thank you for this video. I completely agree and after 20+ years of buying luxury, I've accumulated enough designer stuff to last a lifetime. I've tried now to be more mindful because of my kids and financial goals, so I limit the big ticket designer things to 2-3 items a year. Sending you loads of positive energy! You can do it xx
Thank you so so much for sharing this with us! It made my day to have someone like you supporting my channel, thank you! xx
Because we crave the experience! It's nice to be treated nicely by the SAs, and u get this awesome feeling when u carry the paperbag home. And the unboxing, opening the box, taking the item out of the dustbag.
I agree! It took me a while to realise that kind of excitement doesn't last xx
I totally agree! Intentionality is the key xx
Glad you had a two days to recharge yourself and your soul! xx
Keep up the good work 🙏🏻
Always lovely to have you here xx
I needed this video so much! I am a handbag addict.
You are not alone! Fellow handbag addict here!
Me also 😪
@@noyyuniar6445 together in therapy 😅
Same here 🤦🏽♀️
Because shopping is fun 🤩.
I find my less expensive hobbies often feel more fulfilling too! xx
I'm so glad you resisted the temptation to buy that Prada wallet! Well done xx
Love it! Being smart with our money will in time really pay off xx
Aww thank you so much!!! xx
Yes, I just unfollowed a bunch of bloggers on Instagram and UA-cam, now I have to unsubscribe to emails. Thank you!
Glad you like my ideas! Thank you for watching xx
Same here. The world is different right now. I don’t care as much as this stuff.
I agree with you so much! Action first always xx
As someone who tries to practise minimalism but also love luxe (and tbh, just stuff in general), I like having these reminders in order for me to move towards my minimalism journey.
Thank you so much, Diana! xx
Thanks for sharing!! xx
Thanks for sharing!! I agree with you, investing should always comes first xx
Aww I'm so glad you found my video helpful, I really think I have the best audience here on UA-cam xx
What a great topic! I stopped impulse shopping after unsubscribing to annoying marketing emails. It helped me save up for items I truly love.
Love that! xx
I think there's a lot to be said about just not having anything else to do during 2020. people who usually would go see friends or go out to eat now were just stuck at home. I think that's a big reason why luxury shopping slows down a lot when you have kids. Because they take up a lot of your time
That's quite true! When Isaac was a newborn, the last thing I needed was a Louis Vuitton delivery! xx
I did not realize that I am addicted shopper until I watch the video. It is time for me to change and no more shipping. Thank you, thank you. What a amazing video is.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Kim xx
Eileen strikes again! So informative everything is spot on.
Thank you!!! xx
So agree
I agree with you! Respecting our own budget is so important! xx
Very helpful video! I think I also shop because I like finding good discounts. It feels like an accomplishment when I can save money when I buy something even though not buying anything at all would be the biggest savings.
So true! Thank you for sharing! xx
You’re videos provide excellent shopping advice!
Glad you think so! Thank you 😇
Thanks so much for sharing. Marketing strategy for luxury items on social media can’t be underestimated. Even when I don’t have a feeling on certain luxury item at first, they do grow in my heart as I see them more and more on social platforms.
Absolutely!! The Chanel Gabrielle bag is a prime example xx
It really sounds like we're completely on the same page! It's lovely to have you here xx
Gosh! Great idea. I just might adopt this 🙏🏻
Wow it is like you were describing myself when you said you studied a lot when you were younger and then discovered shopping as an activity once I started working.
Well done! Any progress is still progress, wishing you a smooth low buy year xx
All great points! I definitely love to shop. It’s therapeutic for me, but I definitely need to resist it more often.
You can do it! Sending you loads of positive energy xx
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 agree ! Though I love bags , I try not to have repeated designs !
Good point! Chanel used to do that to me too, which is why a lot of my impulse purchases were from Chanel 🙈
Aww you're too sweet! Made my laugh real hard as well 😆
Loved this. Im looking to buy my first luxury bag, a speedy. And im ALREADY thinking about the next. I want to cherish this first bag as an experience, memory, and a testament to my hard work, not as a high.
Enjoy your first bag fully 💛 It deserves your love xx
I'm really really hard on myself, i write down my wishlist, then i create an album or pinterest board of all my wishlist. I compare it for months. If i still want it in 6 months and im sure i will get a lot of use out of it, i'll buy it.
I’ve started to do the same thing! If I’m still thinking about it, I get it. If not, I don’t.
You definitely sound like a rational spender, kudos to you! xx
I'm really glad you liked my videos! Welcome on board xx
I always watch your videos when I start wanting a new luxe item. 🥰 This is such a great video!
Thank you so much 🤗
Really inspiring!!! I’m crazy in luxury collection from last year. This is a headborn. I will definitely downsize my costume jewellery and bags
You can do it! Sending you loads of positive energy xx
That's so true, the key to happiness is gratitude xx
Only buy a combination of high quality and classic pieces and use them a lot for a long time (hopefully life time long). These items are worth investing. I rarely buy seasonal pieces, as they normally don’t go well with everyday outfit and could be outdated within 2 -3 yrs
Yep. I decided to only add one bag to my closet this year and to get all the vachetta replaced on my Samir 30 this year. I don’t need any other bags. I sold 6 between December and January this year. I will only have 5 now.
Wow selling 6 handbags! It must feel so refreshing 😇 Well done! xx
Thank you for the critical thinking on the subject and for sharing it with us
Thank you for sharing with us! I really do love hearing about personal stories like these 💛
Hello dear, I'm loving your video!!!
I hope your videos can expire me to do the best decisions instead to just avoid them!😘😘😘
I'm so glad you found my content helpful xx
Hi Eileen. I usually never comment, but I simply have to tell you how happy I am to have found your channel! 🤍
I have set quite a big saving goal for myself this year, leaving a very limited room to spend what I normally would on bags, jewelry etc. and the points you make in your videos, as well as the perspectives provided, is honestly very needed and helpful. So I just wanted to say thank you for that ☺️🙌🏻
It really means so much to hear such motivating feedback! Thank you so much xx
It really means so much to see such encouraging comment. Thank you so much xx
Thank you for sharing, Amy! I love what you're saying, I myself am looking more into minimalism. Please drop by more xx
Great to hear! If there's one thing I would do different, it would be to use my money for better purposes, such as investing earlier xx
Thank you so much, Gloria! xx
I love shopping and I had done many impulse shopping. I plan to unsubscribe some shops and spend less time browsing for non essential items. I love your videos, thanks for sharing.
Aww thank you so much, Nelly xx
You have a point when you say people buy matching things to go with their new bag. Thankfully I was able to stop buying matching SLGs for my bags. I have enough and will only get one if I really want one, not because I feel I need to. Great tips as always!
Love that! Thank you so much xx
So glad you’re shining a light on this. I have decided to do a no buy and also to add up how much I have spent so I can really face the music.
Good on you! All the best for your mindful journey xx
You’ve hit the nail on the head Eileen. I like your attitude towards luxury and over consumption and all those things you mentioned I struggle with. New subscriber here! Keep with the very mindful videos!
SO HAPPY to have you on board! Thank you for your support xx
You got this! I promise you will feel so much lighter too! xx
I’m so glad I have been watching your videos. I’m working to be more minimalist, but I still want some nice things. Your current mindset is something I am working to adopt.
I'm so glad to hear that! Love having you here xx
Hi Eileen,
For me it began with trying to keep up with fashion that I saw in magazines... I guess clothes, handbags and gorgeous shoes are more than getting dressed... it is an artistic expression....and it is a very social experience.... I have fond memories of laughing and being happy with
sales associates ... then going for a nice lunch with beautiful shopping bags 🛍
Since Covid, I have stopped this because I can’t breathe well with a mask.
You've worked really hard so it's absolutely OK to treat yourself to something nice xx 💛
This is definitely informative and well-thought out! Totally agree! But I am still shopping 😅 but finally making an effort to slow down and cut down!
You got this! Sending you a lot of positive energy xx
Absolutely!! We keep buying but the happiness doesn't increase in a linear line xx
Thank you for this video! This is completely me and I have consider my behavior and taken steps by unfollowing those luxury groups. I need to keep going! Thank you! I will watch more of your video!
Thank you for watching!! xxx
You're definitely doing well, kudos to you! xx
Thank you Eileen 🤩🤩🤩🤩 much needed refreshing honesty in this hyper consumer culture
Glad it was helpful! Thank you xx
Thank you for your videos. I feel like I need them to bring me back to "the real world".
Glad you like them!xx
I just ask myself this question today when I was looking at bags today. Thank you for sharing. These are some very smart observation. I am glad that you have shared them with us and it helps to keep from over spending.💛
Glad it was helpful!xx
Love your advise. I am about to get trapped on this but will be watchful in future
Glad you found my content helpful, thank you xx
Such great content! truly appreciate that!
Glad you enjoy it! xx
I swear you can see what I’m doing 😂 and your videos help me to snap back into reality and focus on goals instead of shopping temptation I have to look at your videos several times to help.
Hahaha I'm glad my video helped to keep your grounded! Do come back for more xx
I totally agree. Love your content!
Thank you so much! xx
Just discovered your channel Eileen. You are such an inspiration! I look forward to your videos every week.
Thank you so much! Love having you here xx
The apps we use today are designed for marketing... thanks for the reminder!! Super useful
I learned something new again and I'm happy to know that I don't have a shopping problem lol
Well done😇
real talk! also, the 2020 shopping-because-it-is-a-stressful-year, absolutely got the best of us! 😔 it would take some time to change ur shopping mindset, but this video helps me realize to be more careful on spending.. wonderful video! ❤️
You got this! Thank you for your support xx
I love your concept and it is so calming and helpful ~ 💕💖🥰
Thank you!! 😊
Thank you for your insightful commentary 🤍👍 I believe that shopping addictions are a side effect of capitalism. I know when I had more income I spent more but now I’m enjoying the simple life.
Absolutely! Having the option to buy something doesn't mean we have to buy it. Being selective is empowering xx
You are a smart person. I love and enjoy this video because I love your articulation of your thoughts ( I agree with everything) and your voice is so soothing. I would recommend this video to anyone. 😊
Thank you so much! xx
Great video! I'm liking and commenting so that hopefully UA-cam will recommend it to more people...
You're too kind, thank you so much xx
Love your videos! They always bring me back to reality without the added guilt.
Glad you like them! Thank you! xx
Thank you inspiring me to be a wiser luxe lover. Please keep the good vibes coming Eileen.
Aww thank you! xxx
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! For me personally, losing money on a sale really reminds me to shop mindfully xx
You are so down to earth!
Would you mind sharing what you do for a living?!
Thank you! xx
I only have 4 bags and 2 SLGs. I sold a couple of items just to remove anything I don’t use. I’m looking to purchase one more Chanel and then a Birkin 25 so I should be done then. I’m not someone who likes excessive items.
You're definitely building a very curated collection, well done! xx
I have a notebook for recording what I buy (only fashion, not grocery) each month. At the end of month, I will calculate how much I spent and mark love or nah for the items I purchased. And I also write my wishlist in the notebook to remind myself what I truly want.
You sound very organised! I'm sure the notebook must have saved you a lot of money! xx
Thanks for sharing!! Creating some friction for shopping is sometimes much needed xx
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!xx
Excellent video, so true!! Congrats Eileen🌸

I used to love window shopping too but it did get a bit expensive lol xx

Absolutely great video! Very informative!
Glad it was helpful! xx
I really appreciate that, thank you so much xx
