    I'm the guy that made those adapter plates.
    The problem with the flat head cap screws not sitting flush in an aluminum head is Edelbrock did not countersink the mounting holes like the factory cast iron heads. The plates are 1/4" thick, the length of the tapered area of the flat heads cap screw is 1/4". The threads do not extend all the way to the tapered part of the fastener, hence the need for a chamfer. This is not an issue with factory cast iron cylinder heads.

      The reverse rotation water pump is no longer available. I am not making any more of the adapter plates because of this.@@truckloadslim

      @@Extreme_Supreme I think they changed the water pump design. They put a standard flow impeller into a reverse flow housing. Compare a V8 diesel water pump to the new V6 diesel water pump, you'll see the difference.

    This is fantastic content. I'm loving this whole video series, especially the serpentine belt. Thank you so much for doing this for the Olds crowd. I can see a fresh Olds455 with serpentine belt in my 1976 GMC Motorhome someday!

    Also concerning the clearance issue with the power steering pulley and the power steering gear box. The factory pulleys are just a tad bit bigger than the auto parts store replacements. Something like a 1/4". If you need and/or want extra clearance you can remove the factory bolt on the steering box nearest to the pulley, and replace it with a button head cap screw.

    my kit did the same thing, I also had aluminum heads, but still had the cast heads , so I checked , and they tightened up , my fix was to chamfer the bolt holes on the head , fixed it up just like that , the screws need a bit of clearance , and the aluminum heads are milled dead flat, the cast heads have a chamfer, 9/16 bit, and just a touch is all that is needed, then they tightened up perfect.

    Wow, I was wondering how you were going to get a Chevy serpentine belt setup on your Olds 455! Cool bracket system Hutch! I recently did a serpentine belt setup video for my sbc 400 on my channel. And you are correct, media blasting those brackets are a pain! I ended up powder coating mine in a gloss black and they look pretty nice. Looking forward to part 2 of this install!

    Does the bevel on the bolt protrude thru the back of the new mount if it does you could counter sink the thread hole on the head just a little bit

    • @hutchhiperf
      @hutchhiperf  2 роки тому

      I cut the threads all the way to the bevel of the bolt to see if it helped and it didn't. Didn't think of counter sinking the thread hole. I wouldn't do it to those heads though.

      Based on the flow of the stock Edel Heads and a 10.2:1 compression I would be happy with 490hp/580lbft torque.

    The hardware can't be longer than 1/2". That's the issue. He might have used the wrong angle counter sink as well but I suspect it's a hardware issue.

      @@hutchhiperf it's either drilled with the wrong bit or the hardware is bottoming out in the head. If the right bit is used, it will snug evenly regardless of how deep the countersink is. Angle of the countersink doesn't change. This might work temporarily but those will loosen up over time.

      @@hutchhiperf Hi. I believe I messaged you a few months ago regarding your 2004r transmission. I had mine rebuilt thereafter with the transgo shift kit etc. installed. Anywho..Anywhere... I paid over $400 for this same serpentine kit from Pacific GBODY I believe..out of Canada. But can't seem to get my hands on the proper Reverse Rotation Water pump from anywhere. Flowkooler, GMB or otherwise new or used. Would love to have your other part list for this build to compare with mine. Especially the Ford pulleys. I purchased 2 full brackets from the scrap yard. Look different but haven't had time to test fit yet on my Olds 350 yet currently sitting in my '86 442 TT. Nonetheless, appreciate your detail..I'm just trying to sell and replace the 307 olds in my 4Dr with the olds 350 with serpentine and I have the stage 2 LQ9 for my 442.
